Precious memories.True that in life you meet people through work you admire, then you think of them, then meet them in social occasions and talk ,talk, laugh, and afterwards realise that they thought of you the same way...bonding time without realising it...it's special. ❤️

Enjoy your videos, sorry the audio was cutting out. But helping us understand your earlier work. Being retired now, sometimes still recall the early days. So many experiences. I think as long as I have a good memory, will always remember so many details and circumstances. The clients, families, the deceased. Good and interesting remembrances.

Great video! It was interesting to learn that apprentice Kari would notice splatters on the wall after working, learning the origin of the mini-winnie nickname, and the cardio benefits of setting up and taking down chairs in the chapel!

I so enjoyed this video. Though the audio kept breaking up I just couldn't bring myself to leave. I became a funeral director later in my life, but for all the same reasons you and Chris did. I keep my license current as I always have the hope that one day I may be able to return. I would most definitely like to be involved in Alkaline Hydrolysis. I like that you; Kari promote being option oriented. This a great service to families of deceased. Thanks for shedding such great light on all areas of funerals.

My Dad was a Freelance Mortician, he's been gone now for 20 years. I recall playing hide and go seek at Diamond Funeral Home with their kids. They had a casket room, the room where Dad embalmed the bodies & a waiting room for the up coming funeral. Long story short I thought I was in the casket room and jumped in to hide, as I jumped in I felt a very hard object and realized where I was. After belting out a good screen Dad walked in and flipped the light on and low and behold there I was face to face with a dead man in his casket 😱. After that I never played again. He also did Alot of Verheyden , Barksdale, Swanson & many more. I recall him getting calls and going to embalm at 3am. It definitely takes a special person to do this job ❤️

Good story on how to handle challenging cases/situations in general. Never look or sound the slightest bit fearful when presenting. Always start with the situational challenge , use a nicely worded transition such as "and", then present the solution and plan for action.
Even if you're "britting shicks" inside. You'll present as the subject matter expert and gain buy-in from the key opinion leaders/decision makers.

Aww I'm really glad we got to see who helped train you! He seems very genuine. It was cute what you did with the gloves. You look so sweet in the old photo! Not much different to now just extra baby faced!
It's interesting that he taught you to be calm and not show your own nerves and fears to families. I bet a lot of that rubbed off on you because to me you do seem very calm and soothing at all times even when discussing more difficult details about death and embalming etc. That's probably something that really helped with your own personal experience with your niece, I think your sister needed someone to be calm and not flustered at that point to help her get through things.
I hope you never actually did fall down the stairs carrying the chairs 😂🙊.
I feel the same as you, kari. I'm very keen and interested to work in Funeral homes and all that that involves, but I don't have any desire to ever try to own my own funeral home. I don't have an interest in starting a business, just being one of the cogs within one that does their bit to keep things going smoothly.
It was really interesting to hear your perspective about going into someone's home and being there in their private space etc. I never really thought of that from the family's perspective that it's not only losing someone suddenly, it's also a big deal to have to allow strangers then in to your home and private rooms etc. I think that's why it's so important for the people caring for them to be so non-judgemental and reassuring.
This was very interesting and helpful, thank you Kari and Chris 💜
