I have been boarding for 20 years, I have seen my fair share of fights with skateboards, they can be just as deadly as beating some one in the head with a hammer. I personally have a friend who was a young talented kid and who has basically been in a vegetative state for 7 years because some one ran up behind him and cracked him in the back of the head with his board. Boards can cause severe blunt force trauma to the skull just as easily as any deadly weapon, so to just wave it off as if it were nothing worse then a feather is very disingenuous and dangerous

Also, Cenk puts his money where his mouth is by creating organizations like The Wolfpack. Destiny, despite being a multimillionaire, does not.
      .
      .
      .
      Okay, that was sarcasm.
But I still feel that tyt sometimes very suspiciously falls into traps such as appeals to antiquity. A good example of this would be suggesting that the democratic side of the US did not learn from the mistakes in Libya and the Middle East. I'd have loved to hear a response to this criticism. Almost everyone in the world outside of the US will sometimes say things like "Russia is just another forever war", like Afghanistan, or "Russia is just the US meddling without forethought", like Libya. But keep in mind, it was republican-appointed military advisors who recommended both conflicts. I feel Obama underestimated how extreme a republican-appointed secretary of defense could be.
It's really suspicious to me when I see a pacifist stance towards the Ukraine Russia war. As if the nord 2 bombing weren't Putin's effort to sabotage dissent in his inner circle, among other things like this recent dam incident. The fact is, Putin is a very flawed person, sadistic due to a severe flaw in his health.
The reason I blame Russia for the nord 2 bombing in case you were worried about this is because the investigation shows the bombs were placed across depths of 42 and 79 meters over the course of no less than 45 minutes (500 kg of explosives), which is very deep and would have required compression and decompression equipment, and only Russian vessels were in the area with capable ships to do this in the time frame of the attack.
The reason I'm comfortable to blame Russia for the dam is because the bridge would have prevented Ukrainians from planting bombs, and there was security footage. A small explosive to create a small hole happened the night before the news, and it was around 4 a.m. Russia realized it had made an error and the hole would be much bigger than anticipated. It would have taken months of missile attacks to create this result. It has to be a very heavy placed charge.that caused the collapses. The three Russian stories are all ridiculous. One storm shadow missile, first. Second, bombing all night but none caught in security footage, and finally that Ukraine snuck across the river undetected and planted the charge in the Russian occupied building without anyone noticing their presence or approach. Also, Russia intentionally built the reservoir up as much as possible to maximize the damage, and this is a very celebrated communist war strategy, despite being a war crime. For example, in children's plays in China they celebrate Mao flooding cities where Jiang Kai Shek sympathizers were mixed with other civilians.

The debate can be split into two main parts: The first is on what strategy the democratic party should take in positions of power. The second is about Kyle Rittenhouse and whether or not his actions were justified.
[ The majority of this part of the debate is on how the democrats/Joe Biden should handle the republicans, Cenk argues for a more aggressive populist approach and Destiny rides for bipartisanship 23:00 - 57:00 ]
01:00 The different approaches of the democratic party.
23:00 Why does Joe Biden not fight back against Republicans?
Cenk argues Joe Biden should fight back at the very least rhetorically.
Destiny thinks the deal (debt ceiling negotiation) the democrats made with the republicans was good.
30:00 How democrats constantly cave to Republicans
Cenk argues bipartisanship isn’t always good, especially if it infringes on the average citizen
Destiny rides for Biden, argues that because Biden doesn’t have a house majority it puts him in a position where he has to be bipartisan. Also Destiny makes an argument for the supreme court (institutions) but also against the supreme court?!? Not sure where he stands on this
Destiny cites the American Recovery Act and infrastructure bill as some of Biden’s wins. Does he mean the American Rescue Plan?
36:05 They both agree republicans only care about tax cuts for the wealthy
38:00 Cenk on how democrats could lean in to populist policies to gain majority similar to what LBJ and other democrats that were in a similar position did.

42:00 Destiny says Trump is the most fascist president ever,
43:40 Destiny says Joe Biden has the cards stacked against him, and that average Americans would not back Joe Biden even if he leaned into more populist policies, citing that Americans are the most divided we have ever been. However doesn’t mention that we have always been divided on identity politics issues but share common ground when it comes to working class/populist issues
44:48 Cenk also agrees with D that Trump is a fascist
45:00 Cenk on Joe Biden’s pipeline
45:30 Cenk on a policy that joe biden can lean in to (Paid Family Leave)
46:50 Cenk and Destiny on they rotating villain tactic within the democratic party, Destiny thinks Sinema and Manchin are necessary to the democratic party
48:00 Cenk on the real reason as to why democrats constantly cave to the republican party
50:00 Cenk on how to ‘fix’ the democratic party, get money and corporate lobbying out of politics.
52:00 Destiny’s take on progressives in congress
    54:00 Destiny on Joe Manchin
[ 57:20 Kyle Rittenhouse Debate Begins. Cenk doesn’t think Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions were justified and Destiny defends Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions ]

1:00 Both Destiny and Cenk hamper and hyperfocus on the point that 'the riots were violent'.
1:01 Destiny defends Kyle Rittenhouse says he was defending his community despite Kyle Rittenhouse traveling to the area where the riots were happening.
1:05:50 Cenk on the reality of Kyle Rittenhouse. Cenk w here
1:06:50 Destiny deflects and hyper focuses on the looting that occurred and uses that to try and justify Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions
1:08:58 Cenk on what if Leftists armed themselves?

First things first, it felt really good hearing a legitimate conversation where people were coming at things in good faith. I used to be a TYT fan but as I got older and started to realize how the world worked, how things actually get done, and how what has always made America the best in the past was how we were united even with different ideals and cultures. With that said, it frustrates me how Cenk (who I always thought and still think is the most genuine and intelligent out of the bunch) is able to garner the support he can, and how passionate he is about a lot of these issues, but his past media experiences have blinded him to his true effectiveness and how things get done in this country. YOU CANNOT just flat out ignore 50% of the country, and the other 35% that are likely not even close to your progressive beliefs. Its just not effective. The country is far too fractured. Stepping across the lines and understanding why people feel the way they do and trying to reach out to them even if it takes a long time is the way things work. It is what it is.
As someone who was a paying and supporting member for a long time their messaging as of the past few years has really bummed me out. I hope Destiny comes on and chats with Cenk more often, as I believe someone who is idealogically as passionate as Cenk is actually good for someone like Destiny, in the same way that someone who is more rational and thinking about what the proper course of action should be in the moment like Destiny is for Cenk.

He's advocating voting in elections the same as anyone else, and telling you how he actually got progressive people elected into office. What do you want him to be saying?
He also hammered down in the debate how there actually is pretty broad consensus among the actual electorate on several issues - I believe he explicitly mentioned how most people, regardless of party, believe in paid family leave. He could have also named campaign finance reform. He explicitly mentioned how even Joe Manchin's actual electorate is much further to the left than he is, and that Republicans and corporate Democrats are often far right of the actual electorate's opinions. So where is the "ignoring of 50% of the country?" Did you even watch the video?
And yeah sure, the guy who professionally covered politics on national television and the internet for over a decade is the one who can benefit from the superior rational wisdom of a gamer who primarily outwits uneducated losers for a living. What you're ignoring is that you don't have to "ignore" "50% of the population". Actually, the ones who ignore the vast majority of the population are the corporatists who are sitting in office RIGHT NOW. When it comes to actual policy, we're all so much closer together than almost anyone would have you believe. Paid family leave, universal health care, paid college tuition, universal background checks, protecting voting rights, getting money out of politics, the list goes on and on. These are all framed as "progressive" and "far-left" positions, yet they all have over 50% support across the political spectrum. Some of them poll 80% or more! The only reason we don't have all of those things is because those in power ignore the will of the people. Sure, the country is politically divided, but it's mostly culture war and team sports bullshit.

Both made good points. I tend to agree more with cenk.
I feel that Cenk analyzed issues from the pov of to what direction should society be pushed, which is the essence of doing politics.
and destiny analyzed issues maybe more objectively from pov of "this is how things are and this is what we can realistically achieve", which might be more "accurate" but doesnt push change.

It's so myopic as to be totally useless, since politics is an ongoing thing where people are supposed to adapt their strategies to the lessons they have learned. If you've painted yourself into the corner, you might have a spirited conversation about how to extract yourself from this position, but that's not nearly as important as figuring out why you did this and avoiding it the next time. Ignoring that Democrats have been (clearly intentionally, but even if you believe just "incompetently") painting themselves into the same corner 500 times, in order to talk about this one current occurrence of it, is not giving proper context to the discussion, especially since a lot of the debt ceiling fight is about optics and ongoing framing, and it is not just a snapshot.
Even if it were the case that "Hey!! We won back a tiny bit of our money in this Monopoly game we've been losing constantly for 30 years, let's celebrate," it would be a disservice to the main story. But instead, Destiny is saying "Hey, we only lost a bit more money--I mean, we were expected to lose a ton, that's just inevitable--what kind of bipartisan game would it be if we just won some money and kept it all--that wouldn't make the other parties happy, would it? Anyway, we bucked the odds by only losing a little bit during this move. Therefore, we deserve credit--and shame on you Progressives who don't want to give credit to us for only mildly losing!!!" It's horrific analysis.

It depends what are the goals of your messaging/thought.
Doing political activism and doing pure analysis are different things even though they can certainly overlap.
Cenk is an activist and his messaging´s main goal is to push for change. Understanding and truth are secondary goals oftentimes.
Objective analysis without any other goals than to understand dynamics and outcomes is different from propagandizing political activism and there is nothing myopic about it, its just messaging/thinking with different goals. It gives you more understanding of the political landscape and helps you decide who is in "your team" in each issue and what even are the goals you should push for..

There is SOME critical mass of Democrats whereby they are actually forced to save face by passing SOME things that the base wants, and he is urging his viewers to elect more Democrats toward theoretically reaching that critical mass. I just strongly think that his strategy is wrong (counterproductive, actually), and he doesn't fundamentally understand the argument that Leftists are making. The rittenhouse debate can be summed up for destiny as the following:
Destiny is an american. In america, you are allowed to carry guns, be anywhere you want in public and defend yourself with lethal force.
This is all true, but I think most people in countries outside of america just think: "How is it possible that a 17 year old runs around in the dark, with a rifle, surrounded by people rioting, and eventually gets into a scuffle where he uses the rifle to shoot 2 people dead.
To me, as a european (germany), it's insane that people like Destiny see nothing wrong with the concept of teenagers running around armed ready to kill. When I was 17 I smoked weed, played magic with my friend and went to school. If at any point i would have went with a firearm to a protest my mother would have lost her mind.

    • @joninosaka

I agree its kind of hard for people outside the U.S. (I'm in Japan) to get over the fact that 17 year olds can carry guns in the U.S. But once you get over that hump and set that condition, then Destiny has the correct view on this matter.
If you look at it from the perspective of a 17 year old girl carrying a gun into a seedy part of town who is forced to use it in self-defense in the event of being attacked by a mob of men, most people would probably side with the girl.

Being ready to kill in defense of yourself is way different than wanting to kill someone. Open carry may be a crazy concept, but I don’t see what rittenhouse did was morally inept. Every other person initiated, 2 of which continued to chase him, after he was running away, pretty dumb.

The in-party is a fight you have to fight as well. and the example I would have used would have been Lyndon B Johnshon during civil rights. He fought both parties to get the thing passed and he used politics very effectively. Not only that in-party sabotage on behalf of the democratic party is part of why democratic voters are groomed to reject that kind of rhetoric.

If you have 60 votes in senate, you can attack politicians like Manchin.

Let the courts do what they will, at the end of the day the republicans either cause a default that is 100% their fault (not even a possibility if you understand politics). or the lift the damn debt ceiling. This is why under republicans their are no debt ceiling fights republicans know its a losing issue. Yet you guys fall for the trick every time. Have the balls to fight guys.
