I believe the poison that Sinh kept within him was absorbed from Gravelord Nito's Miasma in the Great Dragon War. Rather than dying, Sinh basically went into a coma deep in the earth after succumbing to the poison. I remember reading somewhere Elana was trying to drain Sinh's soul while he sleeps, give how strong dragons are, be it their souls or body parts(i.e. all the awesome dragon weapons) this makes sense to me.
You know what I find a bit interesting? King Vendrick refers to his wife with "my dear Nashandra..." It seems that, despite the fact that he knows what she is, where she came from, what she represents, and everything she's done... he still loves her...
***** He explains what Nashandra is in his speech where that line comes from. He clearly knows what she is and what she is doing. Also, he only went to the crypt to prevent her from achieving her goal, and so far the ashen mist only allows you to visit the last moments of ones memory (which is why the giants and everlasting dragon are dead when you come across them in their memory, or at least very close to it.)
VampiricDarkDragon if you fall on love with someone and spend years with them only to find out they are a demon that devours souls would you stop loving them just like that? I wouldn't.
Shit, I just thought of something good. It seems that you need the crowns to link the fire, according to Vendrick. This means that at the end of the game, after you beat Nashandra, you sit on the throne and nothing appears to happen. You don't get a choice on whether you link the fire or not, like in Dark Souls. This might be why you return to Majula after the credits, with the option to start everything over again, as if to search for something you might have missed once before. So then you go to NG+, and try again. It fails. Then you go to NG++, and so on. Trying as hard as you can to figure out why nothing happens, with each journey getting harder and harder not because your enemies are getting stronger, but because you're getting weaker and weaker as you hollow out from loss of hope at this seemingly impossible task. _Edit: This might what the Emerald Herald hints at with her dialogue:_ "Seek the King, that is the only way. Lest this land swallow you whole… As it has so many others." Your character learns of the crowns by talking with Vendrick, thus you must seek him to find out.
Ill be damned. That actually doesnt sound that far fetched. People have been throwing some crazy theories about everything in DS2 but nothing concrete. This seems like something legitimate actually. VaatiVidya Vaati, you are a genius man.My friend and I really enjoy your work! I had a theory I wanted to run by you, what would be the best way to submit it?
Sometimes these videos confuse me even more, but this one was really good and shows how well designed the dlc is and how they have got it to fit in with the main story. Great video
VaatiVidya This is a really excellent video- of course, seeing Dark Souls II's consistently villainous portrayal of Queens makes the fact that we never learned anything about Gwyn's wife less coincidental and more suspicious.
Constants... and variables. After the King of the Sanctum, we shall discover the true nature of the Old Iron King and his Old Iron Crown in that towering inferno, but after that, what of the Ivory Crown? What king dwelt in that frigid temple? And more importantly, what will happen when all four Daughters of the Abyss fall and their essence comes together? Or... shall they be reborn in a fifth sister?
GmodPlusWoW Well this is me going out on a limb, but the game hints that when you absorb a soul it gathers in you. So what happens if you absorb all/many of Manus's fragments? Well you either become his new vessel, or I suppose you could set aside all of your power and burn it to preserve the world. I doubt it will actually get that deep, but that is the implication to me.
Sparda I'm thinking that the souls you gather don't become 'one with you' until you use them to 'forge your soul' by leveling, because dying can loose them. And the only option w/ the 4 great souls besides making boss weapons/spells is to essentially shatter them into a bunch of little souls for leveling or buying stuff (or loosing via death). If you could 'merge' w/ one like the Lords did and gain abilities similar to the Lords themselves (skeleton summoning from Nito, miracle casting w/out a catalyst like Gwyn in the opening cinematic, flame sorcery like the WoI, ect...), that would be an awesome game feature! It would also put great weight behind your idea, but I'm thinking the 'influence' the souls exert on the player isn't much unless such a 'merging' is done. I like the thought though.
VaatiVidya Excuses me if i'm wrong, since english is not my mother language i cant say for sure, but the feeling "awe" isn't better suited than "fear" in that sentence?
Ricard You wouldn't be wrong, but both are equally applicable depending on how you chart emotions. jonrognerud.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/robert-plutchik-emotions-chart.jpg Weaker feelings of Terror and Amazement combine to create the feeling of Awe. If people are amazed by the magnificence of the dragon as well as afraid of it, they could be feeling awe towards it.
That fight would knock down so many tropes in gaming. Not to mention the lore. It'd be tough to make a believable boss out her but I'd still love to see From try. Too bad that ship has sailed.
*standing applause*!!!!! This was more then worth the wait! I'm nearly speechless. this was so beautifully narrated it almost brought a tears to my eyes. You are truly gifted. Thank you, thank you so much. Dont you dare go hollow, and praise the sun
This video got me thinking, with everything else we know... The Emerald Herald is a lot like Frampt. I just feel that, while she may have good intentions, she's just manipulating you to get her way, like Nashandra did to Vendrick, or Frampt did to the Chosen Undead. However, we also have Aldia on the other end of things, who reveals the truth to you, like Kaathe. The only difference is that Aldia doesn't want you to choose a new age of fire or dark at all.
All you need to do is learn roll timing and then learn when to get up in his face and hit or hit his arms, after that yu just hide behind the wall and wait for your openings to attack
This is your best video yet; amazing editing and quality content. I never thought I'd be paying someone for making youtube videos, but you've most certainly earned it!
this right here is the vaati that made me fall in love with dark souls lore in the first place. screw everything else on the channel, this is all i want
I became obsessed with Dark Souls after watching his videos. It's the first time I realized there was so much more going on than at first glance. I fell in love with the games so much I have a tattoo of the darksign on my right hand...
If the other 2 DLC's have their own daughter of Manus to kill, I wonder if FROM might make it so that if you have all three DLC's and the souls of Nashandra, Elana, and the other two Shards of Manus. You can use those souls to resurrect Manus and finish him off for good in a secret boss battle. Now that would fucking awesome.
Vaati, your storytelling abilities are simply sensational. I'm 100% sure I wouldn't love Dark Souls as much as I do had it not been for your amazing videos, keep it up !
That ending gave me goosebumps! Very well done! Thank you so much! Im glad that you took your time to make this and to make it perfect. Just brilliant!
I swear Vaati, you make such great lore videos. That little bit at the end there about us potentially having our own "Queen" is a little unnerving, but I love it! :D
I really love how you narrate it and even bring the narration by remaking images of what could have happened with the outfits and places in the game, really great job!
Same mate. It's awesome because now that I think about it, it's true. It wouldn't be absurd if the Emerald Herald is the Fragment of Deceit, since there are 5 fragments of manus.
When I played through dark souls 1 I was amazed by the creature designs, but it was only when I played dark souls 2 that I found true respect for the characters in DS1. I feel like everything is ds1 is powerful and the more importantly the origin for so much in DS2. The sisters make me wonder so much of manus, and what could have been if he had succeeded.
One of Vaati's better videos - the ending gave me chills, which is the main reason I subscribe to this channel. Once in a while, he creates a gem of a video like this - one that evokes and amplifies the sense of tradgedy of the lore that I feel when playing the game. These videos reveal the incredible depth in Dark Souls 2 that I think a lot of people overlook when playing the game because they're just hidden as item descriptions and subtle graphic motifs. Kudos.
Well that's an ominous end note. Seems like only time will tell if we have our own dark saboteur. Then again, even Manus must have had regret. If the Emerald Herald really is a fragment, who's to say she wasn't Manus' regret? Would it not be poetic for the efforts of the more powerful sister's if their weakest kin was their undoing? Still, a masterfully crafted video full of great narration and some really fascinating content.
***** I really hate poking holes in people's speculation, as it does kinda kill the mood, but if the Emerald Herald wanted to kill the Chosen Undead that are drawn to her, I think she would probably have either a literally impossible task for them, or some kind of equally impossible ambush planned somewhere so they die endlessly. Everything he or she does is entirely possible, as proven by the player when they persevere. Even if she wanted to kill them when they were stronger, the Herald seems to have more sense than her sisters, and would likely kill off the Chosen Undead the second they returned with one of the Lord Souls and take it then, allowing the next Undead who will undoubtedly appear to collect the next, before repeating the cycle. Before long she would have them all, and by then the Chosen Undead would be so weak (because he/she only had to go through one obstacle, as opposed to the players experience of dozens) that they would inevitably be killed by Nashandra after handing over the last of their powerful souls to the Herald as she appears beyond the final King's Gate before the throne.
***** Wait, I read your message wrong. Terribly sorry. Ignore what I just said. Yes, her actual use for all the souls is pretty much never explained aside from making you stronger, which we don't even know if it consumes souls or not.
Holy shit... Amazing video, that last part blew my mind away. Trully amazing when a fan made video can make you see the story in a totally different light, a light that you would have never even expected, but a light that had always been there uncovered yet unrecognized. Kudos on this awesome video
AshnSilvercorp Did they ever give Priscilla a canon-fate? Pretty much everybody else is destined to die, but the Painted World was sort of it's own little thing.
AshnSilvercorp I swear if they dont mention her in someway shape or form for some closure >.< I'd buy dlc on the spot for a Painting Guardian covenant.
Idk about anybody else, but the ending to this is simply amazing. Your Prepare to Cry series is amazing and I can't wait to see what you have in store for the final souls game, keep up the amazing work.
maybe because he lived very very long with a huge amount of souls, the giant Souls and the Lord Vessel. The normal Knights were very Powerfull, too so they grew. Plus he stole something from the Giants and he was capable of splitting his soul and place it on a throne. It could also be that they are descendance of Gwyn and the Knights, because they were larger too and the furtive Pygmy was a normal human.
He and his brother were really skilled in working with souls. Probably he absorbed the soul of a giant trying to defeat the curse, hoping to gain the immunity that giants have. But it failed.
You make really good videos man. You make the story of dark souls 2 so much clearer and now I'm knida attached to the NPC's and the events that happened in the game. I also liked how you ended this video! Keep up the increable work!
This is just beautiful.. No words can describe how beautiful your story of this lore was. Never knew Elana was a sister to Nashandra. Though I had thought about it. And that all these kings had queens that were almost like children to Manus. Such detail.
Excellent video Vaati, but you forgot to tell them the identity of the sunken king. I mean, the story happens in a city where the dragon Sinh slumbers. It is literally Sinh City, THE SUNKEN KING IS WILL WRIGHT.
Dude's right. Dark Souls already enrapturing story with addition to an intriguingly toned narrator makes for the stuff of legends. You should ask From Software if you can voice act for them, I buy at least a million copies, of just dialogue. Just buy me a bucket and some tissues, I need more cry preparation.
Wow. That link to the emerald herald at the end was brilliant. Goosebumps moment here. I love the lore of the Souls series and the way you link it together and tell it even more. Keep it up man. Good stuff. The stuff books should be written about. Love it.
I wonder, since ornstein made an apperance in the vanilla game, will we see artorias again in the dlc? A boss just titled "The Abysswalker"? That would make me happy
You know that last section of the video gave me the shivers. You really know how to make a video touching. Thank you for making all these amazing videos.
This really makes me wonder whether the ending of dark souls 2 will change after all the dlc is released. Even if they make known of something that will be coming in the next game in the series I think that would be awesome.
Doge Enrico Dandolo Emerald herald is super jelly though and when you get to the throne of want with priscilla she makes you accept her body in 2 ways.
And people say Dark Souls 2 has no story... Its shaping up quite well with each little piece uncovered and is painting an ever more sinister and compelling picture on top of an already sinister and compelling picture of the base game. Can't wait to see what the next area brings, and if I can piece anything together out of the vague hints before Vaati gets another one of these out XD
***** I dont think she'll be some sort of final boss. I do like Vati's idea that she is your queen. So there might be a decision that you have to make some time in the future on whether or not to kill her. If you don't kill her and sit on the throne, she becomes your queen and the cycle just repeats.
Vassti you nake my Dark Souls experience so much better with your videos and story telling! It makes me feel close to the characters and understand what is going on in the game. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Also something to think about: if Alana can recreate an image of Velstadt at will, does this mean that the "real" Velstadt could be nothing more than a conjuration of Neshandra? Perhaps the King's supposed best friend and protector was merely another way Neshandra controlled him.
***** That is what I initially thought, but things are beginning to seem fishy. Have you noticed that Velstadt's soul is dark just like Nashandra and Alana's? What if he is not guarding the king at all, but imprisoning him?
darthvatrayen There is also the betrayer Raime, who could just look like Velstadt And read the Description here Great hammer of the Royal Aegis. The power of this hammer's blessing has not faded completely, despite its being exposed to the dark of the Undead Crypt. Unleash its latent power with a strong attack. Sir Velstadt, known as the Royal Aegis, gave himself to the King in both life and death.
Raime and Velstadt were described as the "right and left hands of the king" according to the rebel shield description. Velstadt is the royal Aegis or "shield", but why would a king need two shields? I suspect that Raime's title would be similar to "Royal Sword" or to something of that effect. Therefore, I do not believe that he would like Velstadt and be what Alana conjures up. I find it more likely that Raime is the Pursuer. Raime and Velstadt fought one another and the King chose to side with Velstadt. What if Raime discovered that Velstadt had malicious intentions to the king and that is the reason for his "betrayal" by attacking Velstadt.
But there are more than one Pursuer, even at the same time. And he always drops the Ring: "The Ring of Blades is modeled after the mad knight of Alken's weapon of choice. Increases physical attack. The kingdoms of Alken and Venn long ago flourished on these very grounds. They were both founded by the same man, but were reduced to rivalry and spite." Now the kingdoms of Alken and Venn are tied to the belltowers, which are also tied to the Old Iron King since one of the belltowers is in his own castle. Another interesting point is if we defeat the Pursuer at the old fort, we get taken to the Lost Bastille by his eagle/raven, and later we encounter him again at the Iron Keep. So this is not pretty good connected to Raime
Oh wow, the writing in this one is superb, you truly outdid yourself. You expose the lore while telling it as a story and weaving in still unanswered questions, awesome.
I am always entertained and excited to watch your videos but this one was just the best I have seen from you. I love how even though you arent always 100% correct about the lore, it seems like you made the game yourself. The whole video convinced me to think that since there is always the cycle that the emerald heiress will be your queen and become a demon herself. It just blows my mind everytime I watch so thanks man. I look forward to more of it.
I always suspected that there were more like nashandra. the description of the chime of want states that _"The old one of the Abyss was reborn in death, split into miniscule fragments, and spread across the land. The tiniest of these pieces, precisely due to its size, was the _*_first_*_ to restore its form."_
This video is awesome! The possible implications are astonishing... But one thing disturbed me and a lot of people.. the SOUL of Sinh. This is the first time we ever see a dragon soul, A REAL dragon. What do you think about it? Is it really a mere negligence, a cheap gameplay mechanic to give the player the spear, or do you think that dragons can have a soul? If so why we haven't seen one in the past?
***** dragons have 2 arms, 2 legs and 2 wings; their wings and arms are separated parts. Drakes' arms and wings are not separated. So Guardian Dragon and Hellkite Drake are not dragons, they're drakes. in the first game Seathe didn't have his own soul, it was a part of Gwyn's soul given to him. In DkS1 Kalameet, Gaping Dragon(which was a true dragon once) and undead dragons didn't have souls, as didn't Seathe. Souls came with the fire, Dragons were existing long before the fire came, so dragons didn't have souls. In the first game this even explained in the opening cutsene that the life and death came with fire, and with fire came disparity, even the lord souls came with fire... Giving a soul to ancient/everlasting dragon really fucks this up. They fucked it up. The Duke's Archives only itself, is better than any area of DkS2. Hell, exclude Lost Izalith, any area of DkS1 is better than DkS2's. THEY FUCKED IT UP, they fucked up the lore, the feeling, the combat, the estus flask, the bosses, the fun and even the rolling and IF. what better thing this game has? twin blades, lances, sickles, multiple soul consumption at once, aiming with crossbow, pvp and hexes. Can't blame Vaati for content frequency, there isn't much or worth content in the game to produce videos more frequently.
***** the description of the ancient dragon souls clearly state that is "fake" it says "Use the dragon soul, created by those who peered into the essence of the soul, to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth." CREATED BY vendrick and Aldia! it's made, it's not natural
Daniele Albergucci You obtain the ancient dragon soul in the memory of the ancient dragon, not from the Ancient Dragon boss. Ancient dragon boss gives you a "soul of a giant". Here is the description of Ancient dragon soul: "Soul of the great ancient dragon that stands magnificently, deep within the shrine. This powerful being stands and waits, for whoever may visit him. Use the dragon soul, created by those who peered into the essence of the soul, to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth." if it's created, why we get it in a memory from a distant past? So Aldia went to memory, implanted the soul, take the dragon bone, craft the fake dragon? Sinh's soul is created too? The problem is, there should be no soul of dragons without giving an explanation like Seathe's in the first game. Old King Soul, Old Witch Soul, Old Dead One Soul are ok, but wtf is the Old Paledrake Soul? Seathe didn't have it in the first place! In DkS2 It all sound like the Dark Soul that the Furtive Pygmy found isn't one of the lord souls, and Seathe had the 4th lord soul in the first place. Sinh shouldn't had a soul, Old Paledrake Soul shouln't be existed. These all contradicts with the lore.
madnessphere All of the Memories are made, constructed by vendrick and aldia, like safelocks, the most secure safelocks, to keep the Throne of Want even more secure from Nashandra. The ability to make these "memories" could be what they "peered". Anyway it is sure that this souls fuck up the lore really bad

I love all of your videos. You take the smallest amount of detail and weave it into a string of flowing events. Your story telling skills are phenomenal. Please keep up the good work!
NOOOOOOO!!!! The Emerald Herald is not a fragment of Manus! I refuse to believe it! NOOOO! Not her... Don't put that seed of doubt into my mind! GAH! -Flips a table!-
Iuno mang, I was always under the impression that Sinh was full of poison due to Nito in the war of the Lords and Ancient Dragons. The Milfanito (who were given song by the Great Dead One) play a similar role to what Elana is doing and we have the Archdrake sect (WHO USE A SLUMBERING DRAGONCREST SHIELD) in the same area as them.
Oh, the Arch-drakes could be the decedents of the sunken city. The shrine might even be built on top of it, perhaps they flooded it to contain the poison. This makes a lot of sense. Vendrick conquered the land and built his castle ontop of the older kingdom. The undead defenders still remain below. So here is my contribution. I don't think Velstadt's appearance is symbolic. Velstadt's Set: "A knight from a faraway land was lured to this accursed land, but forgot even why he came, eventually reduced to a shadow of his former self." I think he is a knight from the sunken city. Pehaps he left after the city fell to poison or heard of lord soul that Vendrick had (Gwens), ether way there is a lot to tie him to that city. Royal Aegis is a title, and can be ether singular or in fact refer to a group. Perhaps the one that is summoned is just part of the same sect of royal bodyguards to defend royalty. Or perhaps it is just the nature of the dark to be able to summon heroes of the past (Rickard/Havel are both in the chasm and I think the dark version of Orenstien is from there too)
BTW this is the kind of stuff that I think is going to make DS2 story top DS1. There is more room for interpretation and less straight up answers. Some need defined answers... but those people are lame, I like that my crazy theory is just as valid as yours and there are parts of the games story that are personal to us.
Your videos never get old! It is so important for me to know the lore of this Souls universe and you are doing a great job as the narrator. Keep it up buhdeeeee!
Did anybody else catch what the emerald herald said in the throne of want about being created by dragons but how they failed in her creation and mans curse continued? So are the dragons trying to save man or are they trying to end the curse so they can kill people off without them coming back?

OH SHIT PLOT TWIST
VaatiVidya So, I should shank the Emerald Herald? Good plan.
SlyTy98 should you? maybe is Solaire on a disguise :D for all we know(thats a joke btw)
That ending genuinely gave me chills O.o
*Brandishes his claymore*
Mumbolian I was about to write the same.
When her voice came up after the great speech...I immediately got chills down my back brrrrr
_Edit: This might what the Emerald Herald hints at with her dialogue:_
"Seek the King, that is the only way.
Lest this land swallow you whole… As it has so many others."
Your character learns of the crowns by talking with Vendrick, thus you must seek him to find out.
gr8 stuff m8
I like where you're going with it! I shall have to remember that
also DEEP...
Ill be damned. That actually doesnt sound that far fetched. People have been throwing some crazy theories about everything in DS2 but nothing concrete. This seems like something legitimate actually. You could be on to something here. Build upon it with the Souls community and see what we can come up with.

Another fucking FANTASTIC video. I get chills man, it's so good!
Glad you picked up on it! "until hope fully withers"..
The line about having a queen of our own. Brilliant.
Great video
Cheers - it's a testament to the good job they did with the lore in the DLC. Subtle, but leading.
Vendrick's voice acting might be one of the best performances in the whole series
and aldia
Maybe once we have all three crowns, we can get a secret ending.
That would be pretty kick-ass.
Or maybe we can get a secret boss if we get all of the manus soul fragments
twiddinky gamez
YES PLS
Maybe Emerald Herald will fight you as a dragon!!! XD
i was thinking the same thing like get all the crowns and take them to the throne and maybe something happens
"Fear is the hearth of reverence"
I'm gonna use that one, don't know when, but i will
You're welcome ;)
When the time is right, you'll know.
VaatiVidya
Excuses me if i'm wrong, since english is not my mother language i cant say for sure, but the feeling "awe" isn't better suited than "fear" in that sentence?
Ricard Believe me, Fear fits very well
Ricard
You wouldn't be wrong, but both are equally applicable depending on how you chart emotions.
jonrognerud.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/robert-plutchik-emotions-chart.jpg
Weaker feelings of Terror and Amazement combine to create the feeling of Awe. If people are amazed by the magnificence of the dragon as well as afraid of it, they could be feeling awe towards it.
That Emerald Herald conspiracy really gets me excited.
Yeah....that's true. Especially now that the dlc for this game has ended
+Ryan Arland I wish that she was the final boss if you get all 4 crowns and give them to Vendrick
That fight would knock down so many tropes in gaming. Not to mention the lore. It'd be tough to make a believable boss out her but I'd still love to see From try. Too bad that ship has sailed.
HOW FUCKING TALL IS SIR YORGH IF HIS SPEAR IS THAT FUCKING BIG
+Dean Armstrong Human sized D: His corpse is in Sinh's boss arena.
Then again, You have to remember that King Vendrict and Nashandra were big as hell, Same with other NPC's, Yorgh could just be one of them
+LilGishy Nah. Size is basically an indication of power in Dark Souls.
***** True. I think it's also just a gameplay thing. Either way I wouldn't read too much into the lore based on size.

Dont you dare go hollow, and praise the sun
That's nice thank you
This video got me thinking, with everything else we know...
One tells you lies other tells you the truth but bowth are manipulating you.
Your Prepare to Cry videos are beyond fantastic! I'm so excited for the new series of them. Can't wait for the next video! :D
Thank you! Hope to create some really good stuff for you guys
VaatiVidya Can i have some adive in betting the old iron king in ng+ without phantoms ?? really difficult !

Thanks mate, for the compliment and the contribution! I hope I can keep doing it for a long while.
this right here is the vaati that made me fall in love with dark souls lore in the first place. screw everything else on the channel, this is all i want
Yay
I became obsessed with Dark Souls after watching his videos. It's the first time I realized there was so much more going on than at first glance. I fell in love with the games so much I have a tattoo of the darksign on my right hand...

I don't mind her her doing that
That ending gave me chills. I never thought of that 0.0
If the other 2 DLC's have their own daughter of Manus to kill, I wonder if FROM might make it so that if you have all three DLC's and the souls of Nashandra, Elana, and the other two Shards of Manus.

That little bit at the end there about us potentially having our own "Queen" is a little unnerving, but I love it! :D

hey vaati i loved the implications and theories you rose during this video this makes you one of the best for dark souls lore

i cant wait for the next set of DLC now just to play through it then hear your lore from it :)
THAT ENDING THOUGH. Should've played the x-files theme.
haha
Love the vid, the background music for Vendricks speach made it sound pretty deep
King Vendrick is obviously Jester Thomas. Why else would he say he was more fit to be a jester?
That means that Magerold of Lanafir is Aldia because he sells the Jester set. It all makes sense now.
The very last thing you said. I was like .... Holy. Shit. Bravo
Well done indeed vaati
Same mate. It's awesome because now that I think about it, it's true. It wouldn't be absurd if the Emerald Herald is the Fragment of Deceit, since there are 5 fragments of manus.
Yeah, I'm all sketched out about the Herald now just like "you lying c**t, I hate you"
"They say she is the last firekeeper. But they say a lot of things."
-Navlaan
Is this going to be another lore prediction that's revealed around 5 months later... like ENB predicting Darkroot Garden was Oolacile? :O
Woaaaaah, you completely blew my mind with that last bit! That's going to be something to look out for.

Yep. There isnt gods to stop the abism. Just normal but brave knights
Shiiiiiiiit that ending though... All I learnt was something I already knew, bitches be cray

Really?
I take it you never turned right at the initial hall in Aldia's keep.
Marty Sue I only just got to the lost bastille bro haha
Oh. You're new here.
WELCOME! You're going to die over and over and you'll love it!
Kudos.
Damn you, Manus.
Still a pain in my ass.
That is awesome speculation
Kudos on this awesome video
last boss of dlcs is emerald herald callin it now
Even if she's not..It's great to think about until we find out :)
that would be a good fight.
VaatiVidya if we ever see Priscilla again (which would just thrill me to death...) she is the one who can "best fate" in theory.
AshnSilvercorp
Did they ever give Priscilla a canon-fate? Pretty much everybody else is destined to die, but the Painted World was sort of it's own little thing.
AshnSilvercorp I swear if they dont mention her in someway shape or form for some closure >.<
I'd buy dlc on the spot for a Painting Guardian covenant.
Confirmed secret ending: Kill the Emerald Herald the first chance you get, and win from there.
Idk about anybody else, but the ending to this is simply amazing. Your Prepare to Cry series is amazing and I can't wait to see what you have in store for the final souls game, keep up the amazing work.
I still can't help but wonder why our human king here is 953,000ft tall... He's not a Lord, or a Giant. :\
I'm pretty sure that was the whole Golem thing.
maybe because he lived very very long with a huge amount of souls, the giant Souls and the Lord Vessel.
But it failed.
...Giants aren't immortal... :|
***** They never hollow either
B-E-A-UTIFUL ending Vati. Food for thought.
You make really good videos man. You make the story of dark souls 2 so much clearer and now I'm knida attached to the NPC's and the events that happened in the game. I also liked how you ended this video! Keep up the increable work!
Congrats on the Kotaku feature. Keep staying awesome :)

HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED
Dark Souls + Your Voice = EPICENESS!!!!!
:3
Dude's right. Dark Souls already enrapturing story with addition to an intriguingly toned narrator makes for the stuff of legends. You should ask From Software if you can voice act for them, I buy at least a million copies, of just dialogue. Just buy me a bucket and some tissues, I need more cry preparation.
Wow. That link to the emerald herald at the end was brilliant. Goosebumps moment here. I love the lore of the Souls series and the way you link it together and tell it even more. Keep it up man. Good stuff. The stuff books should be written about. Love it.
Anyone get the feeling Vendrick will get more dialogue with each DLC?
He gets new dialogue with each action you do within thee first, so i wouldn't be surprised.
I wonder, since ornstein made an apperance in the vanilla game, will we see artorias again in the dlc? A boss just titled "The Abysswalker"? That would make me happy
It wasn't the real Ornstein. This guys armor was colored darker I think. And he uses dark instead of lightning.
Lucas Leicher Hey,ornstein could have got corrupted, like artorias and velstadt
but he got reckled in the last game.
Lucas Leicher Eh,I can hope
I'd settle for the Great Grey Wolf.
Holy crap, that last part literally gave me goosebumps! Really really nice work on the video, and keep up the good work!
That ending gave me some real goosebumps.
Did anyone notice that the archdrake are holding the slumbering dragon shield which looks like sinh
This is a good observation, and i'll likely cover it in an upcoming video. I didn't think it had enough relevancy to mention in this video, though
VaatiVidya
so maybe there is also a connection to the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring in the original Dark Souls?
You know that last section of the video gave me the shivers. You really know how to make a video touching. Thank you for making all these amazing videos.
This really makes me wonder whether the ending of dark souls 2 will change after all the dlc is released. Even if they make known of something that will be coming in the next game in the series I think that would be awesome.
Dev's said there will be a massive secret once you've completed and collected all the crowns :P
You get to meet Priscilla and the games ends with you your waifu living hapilly ever after
Waifu Souls. Its like harvest moon, but in order to get a blue feather you have to kill 10 taurus demons in a tiny arena.
HOOOOOOLY COW. That last line you added gave me chills. Beautiful work as always!
4:20 His monologue makes me cry.
But I don't want to kill the Emerald Herald! She's a nice lady!
Or is she?
***** I dont think she'll be some sort of final boss. I do like Vati's idea that she is your queen. So there might be a decision that you have to make some time in the future on whether or not to kill her. If you don't kill her and sit on the throne, she becomes your queen and the cycle just repeats.
Sir William the True Bro So what if your characters also female? Bit odd for a medieval society. lol
Alex Parker Nah i'm sure Shanalotte swings both ways. Plus there isn't really anyone left in the kingdom to judge you...
Well, canonically she would be your queen, as the Chosen Undead is always canonically male. Sad, but true.
What if he is not guarding the king at all, but imprisoning him?
darthvatrayen His souls was tainted by the dark in the crypt pretty sure it mentions it somewhere so is is still loyal to vendric just tainted.
darthvatrayen
There is also the betrayer Raime, who could just look like Velstadt
And read the Description here
Great hammer of the Royal Aegis.
They were both founded by the same man, but were reduced to rivalry and spite."
Now the kingdoms of Alken and Venn are tied to the belltowers, which are also tied to the Old Iron King since one of the belltowers is in his own castle. Another interesting point is if we defeat the Pursuer at the old fort, we get taken to the Lost Bastille by his eagle/raven, and later we encounter him again at the Iron Keep. So this is not pretty good connected to Raime
This is pretty amazing, but it is not going to make me pity Sinh. He is a bloody damage sponge the size of an airliner.
Oh wow, the writing in this one is superb, you truly outdid yourself. You expose the lore while telling it as a story and weaving in still unanswered questions, awesome.
dark souls 2's story makes sense on its own without playing dark souls 1 which is more than dark souls 3 can say
Tard moment
6:50 "the pattern that repeats itself"
what pattern? you mean:
VELSTADT
VELSTADT
VELSTADT
VELSTADT
VELSTADT
Nah man Velstadt isn't blind he is just.....Velstadt
The Ivory King's sword kills her in like 10 seconds
The ivory king is a man like no others
I am always entertained and excited to watch your videos but this one was just the best I have seen from you. I love how even though you arent always 100% correct about the lore, it seems like you made the game yourself. The whole video convinced me to think that since there is always the cycle that the emerald heiress will be your queen and become a demon herself. It just blows my mind everytime I watch so thanks man. I look forward to more of it.
This was great! I get the feeling that we will face another "daughter of Manus" in each of the remaining DLC.
I always suspected that there were more like nashandra. the description of the chime of want states that _"The old one of the Abyss was reborn in death, split into miniscule fragments, and spread across the land. The tiniest of these pieces, precisely due to its size, was the _*_first_*_ to restore its form."_
Argedon I wonder what the other 2 (assuming there are 2) are like.
darkwzrd4
Nashandra = Want
Elana = Wrath
XXX = Lust/Hatred/Madness
could be alot of things
Argedon well wrath and hatred are pretty much the same thing as well as Want and Lust...
I hope in the final dlc we will face a reformed manus
*****
the description of the ancient dragon souls clearly state that is "fake" it says "Use the dragon soul, created by those who peered into the essence of the soul, to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth."
CREATED BY vendrick and Aldia! it's made, it's not natural
Daniele Albergucci You obtain the ancient dragon soul in the memory of the ancient dragon, not from the Ancient Dragon boss. Ancient dragon boss gives you a "soul of a giant". Here is the description of Ancient dragon soul:
"Soul of the great ancient dragon that stands magnificently, deep within the shrine.
This powerful being stands and waits, for whoever may visit him.
Use the dragon soul, created by those who peered into the essence of the soul, to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth."
if it's created, why we get it in a memory from a distant past? These all contradicts with the lore.
madnessphere
All of the Memories are made, constructed by vendrick and aldia, like safelocks, the most secure safelocks, to keep the Throne of Want even more secure from Nashandra. The ability to make these "memories" could be what they "peered".
Anyway it is sure that this souls fuck up the lore really bad
Daniele Albergucci Well that makes sense quite a lot, so Vendrick's memory is also constructed, for guidance i suppose.
Such a pleasant way to learn new things about the lore, thank you! Also, absolutely love what you implied at the end.
"But what if we have a queen of our own?"
Then a lesbian couple of two queens will rule and a new type of cycle will begin.
Cue in Bloodbourne.
holy fhakin shieet, that last part tho :O "but what if we have a queen of our own?" shieet. nice thinking... i never realized how much thinking nd time u might actually put into these videos... Great Job! tht one quote got u a sub, like nd a fav
Made me sub too ;)
I crapped on that one... Oh sh!t... Do I really want to sit on this? Or should I let another undead take over?
Placido Penitente Meh, if I get to bang the emerald-waifu, I don't really see why not. :D
And if she really is one of the queens... well then, I guess thats not my problem. Let's let the next chosen undead deal with it. :D
Ah shit! You're right! The Slumbering Dragoncrest Shield ... Could they be connected?!
Velstadt's Set:
"A knight from a faraway land was lured to this accursed land, but forgot even why he came, eventually reduced to a shadow of his former self."
I think he is a knight from the sunken city.
Dat last line tho. I was like OHHOHOHOHOHHHHHH THAT F*CKING WOMAN
Did anybody else catch what the emerald herald said in the throne of want about being created by dragons but how they failed in her creation and mans curse continued? So are the dragons trying to save man or are they trying to end the curse so they can kill people off without them coming back?
The dragon was probably Aldia. Not sure if there are more or if its just an error of translation.
I think she refers. To the ancient dragon that is not a dragon
Vaati now whenever I hear the emerald herald speak I get a nasty chill down my spin. I in no way mean that in a bad way in fact, quite the opposite because the tales you stream together and present us is so deep that it creates a sort of reflex in my mind.
Just thought I should share that just about a month ago started watching and I really enjoy the work.
One question: Is it ever stated or implied what happened to the Sunken King? Where are you getting that he was killed by the Drakeblood knights?
Yeah, it's in one of the descriptions. Yorgh's ring or sinh's soul, from memory.
I checked, and it looks like the description of Yorgh's spear says that he defeated the Sunken King.
How did you get the "You have vanguished another foul creature" dialogue out of Vendrick?
I still watch these when i have time and I'm glad you made this content ,thank you
