How One Building Changed Filmmaking (368 Broadway)

- From Casey Neistat to Greta Gerwig, 368 Broadway launched the careers of many of NYC's most successful filmmakers. This summer, I researched the story behind the storied building.
My conclusion? One day, at some overpriced liberal arts college, students will take a class called: "The Diane Fink School of Filmmaking." Mark my words.

This is such a perfect time to tell this story with all the buzz around Barbie and Oppenheimer. Wild that Gerwig and Safdie’s careers come from the same place

@@BlocksandBoroughshey I wanted to ask what editing software you use
Dude u forgot the OG casey
@@EXNIHILOTHEPOETdude didn’t you watch the video. Gear doesn’t matter

I only knew of 368 from casey opening his studio space/creator hub there. Didn't realise it had such a strong background, or how many other creators came out of there previously! That's amazing! Thanks for sharing!
The more I dive into the filmmaking, the more I find these gems. Amazing work and thank you for putting in effort.
@BlocksandBoroughs Not sure what photos you’re talking about?
@@cjolivier Haha, youtube glitched, this was supposed to be a response to a dif comment
Appreciate the support @cjolivier!
I was lost thanks for clearing up😂Have a great week bro🙌🏾❤️
Thanks for making this. I was in the building on the 2nd floor and the 4th floor from 2014 - 2017 as a filmmaker. There is so much more that has happened during that time you can't fit into a single video
Liar your not casey
I had the privilege of hanging out with Van a couple months ago. It was crazy to hear these stories straight from the source. Love to see that there's a video that details that part of film history. Thank you for making this!!
Keep going man this video was amazing :)
Thank you Ryan for the kind words. It really means a lot as I''ve been a big fan of your channel for a while now. Your style is extremely captivating! It has inspired me to give this youtube thing another try. Can't wait to see where the youtube new wave will go next!
That must have been such a cool experience meeting Van - he's definitely one of the most mythical characters in the Diane Fink universe.
The Neistat brothers are a league above the rest yet they inspire so many to surpass them
Well done! Literally heard Van say on a podcast the other day “somebody needs to make a documentary about this”
Haha, I heard that same podcast, and was like wtf, I should try youtube again
I recently started taking walking tours of New York after realizing I've been living here for almost 4 years, and yet I know nothing of it's history. This gave me the giddy feelings of just finishing a tour, so thank you!
Of course! That's awesome you're doing walking tours. I got my tour guide license back in 2019. Have you seen tomdnyc's videos?
@@BlocksandBoroughs Yes!! Such a great selection of videos
I met Casey by accident on Monday last week while running on the Brooklyn Bridge (first day in NYC after 4 years) and passed by 368 on Friday of the same week (last day in NYC for who knows how long), this is sooo on time. He is the reason why I’m on YT.
The BareMinimum show along with folks like SideTalk are now up next to define the next 10 years of the platform.
Thanks for this aesthetically daring video about modern history of filmmaking.
It’s both rare and instructive.
Keep on producing, wanna watch more! 🤩
absolutely loved this man!! such an amazing story and breakdown of what happened. crazy to think one building / place had such a big role in all these filmmakers careers. getting a bunch of creative like-minded people together solely for the goal to create is powerful. and it def feels like history is starting to repeat itself :)
Thank you @WickedStew! I loved an oklahoma summer, it really embodied to me what the youtube new wave is all about, beautifully crafted and heartfelt. History may not exactly repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes! Can't wait to see your future endeavors!
This is a masterpiece. One of the best short films I’ve seen in ages. Unbelievable props to you !! You are truly part of the next generation of this 368 lineage
Incredible story! Had no idea! Thank you for putting this together ❤
the research is just beautiful..Can’t wait to see what’s to come from this channel
This is great! Love the way you pulled the historic threads forward, and how you showed the potency of community. Mercy!
This was so nostalgic, informative and exciting, thank you! looking forward to your monthly releases
You did a truly amazing job on this - the production, pacing, story and delivery are all excellent. You're gonna really pop off if you keep this up best of luck mate
Props to you for the effort put into this! The editing and storytelling is amazing 👏
loved the deep diving you did into this building, its crazy to see how it all started, only visited 368 twice and was able to meet nico, sam and henry. overall amazing vid.
Absolutely fantastic video. Watching this, I saw a pile of loose threads bound together into a tightly-wound rope - several people and places I vaguely knew were associated, but didn’t quite know how, until now. In nine minutes, you gave unifying context to media, content, and creators I’ve enjoyed for more than a decade, and then extended that story back to century-old origins. Incredible work.
Perfect description of if. Masterful storytellers
This is an exceptional take! All the best on your filmmaking endeavours as well mate, you're going to do great!
I'm glad the algorithm did its thing to recommend me this vid, awesome job dude!
Finally someone made a video covering this. I've been waiting years
Jo this videos is incredibly well created! Really felt like a documentary, Loved it
This was great! love the deep dive into Broadway 368.
Incredible history!
This was really great concept and well executed short doc. I had no idea so many big players came out of that building. My intro was, like you, because of Casey. Great video! Look forward to seeing more from you!
Fantastic video. I enjoyed that you included footage of yourself exploring the history in current time
A few weeks back, a friend told me about 368 Broadway's fascinating history and suggested it could be a documentary subject. Today, I stumbled your video on my RUclips feed about it. I shared it with my friend, and he amusingly said, "Man. I remember telling you guys that this would be a cool doxu but in true yt fashion I now think this is a cool RUclips video."
I had the same convo with a friend haha, well if they ever wanna make a longer film lmk lol
I met 2 life friends here and after 4 years of not going to the US I’m going back right there end of this month, 368 Broadway changed my life in a way and I’m thankful for that :)
This was a fantastic piece! Thank you.
Great video and a great piece of cinematic history. Thanks for sharing!
