idk if you'll read this IDC but your the BEST film school on RUclips, keep making this content and hope you succeed in the cinematography field in the industry. Much love my g
"Once they get a take they are happy with" I was legit expecting to hear "they'll shoot another one "just for safety" Force of habit ;) Great video as always !
THANK YOU THANK YOU. I’m 24 and recently got signed to a production company as a director. I’ll be doing commercials, but i can’t wait til the day i start shooting feature films.
i really love that bit with PTA. Id like to share i little nugget of knowledge ive been carrying all throughout my career: tell what you know. you can never go wrong with telling stories that you already know. nothing pretentious about it, its just you sharing what you know and what youve experienced.
What a perfect timing, I have just started making my first Short from yesterday and got this video. Got lot of clarity. Thanks for being my film school. Keep Educating us. Love from India.
Thank you for this one!!! So great to have more focus on the Director's role and Process! I would love a series of videos detailing his role at each part of the production process i.e Development/Pre-prod/Production/Post-prod/Distribution. Or any other useful videos similar to the ones you have made for cinematographers. Thanks!!
You have no clues how much this will help me. Im currently in highschool and I got chance to make a short film of my own with many other talented people who have the same passion as me. Im firing up!!
As for people who interested in directing, I cannot recommend you enough books "Sculpting in time" by Tarkovsky, "Bresson on Bresson" and "Notes on Cinematography" by Robert Bresson, Ingmar Bergman books as well, and in general, pay attention to the "Film d'auteur" theory and such.
Wow!! I mean this video is really helpful to any aspiring filmmaker or anybody who's just curious enough about these things. Well explained, Simple, easy to understand and on the point. Another great Video from your channel. Thanks👏👏
I love your videos. To the point, clear, pretty, and detailed in the technical side of film without becoming daunting. I leave them feeling thoughtful and inspired. Thanks so much and all the best for 2022 :)
Really appreciate knowing more about PTA's process too. I've loved his work since I saw There Will Be Blood in the cinema as a teenager, and it's comforting to know how much prep he does!
Thanks for the video, IDC! I think one of the hardest things and most misunderstood elements of directing is working with actors. There’s a great book called Directing Actors by Judith Weston that I highly recommend to anyone interested in this role
@@inpursuitofhappiness4873 yeah that's a rarity. I'm currently reading Francois Truffauts Hitchcock and that really does it the opposite way talking about films in a way more large scale way in regards to their holistic impact
I would add more about trust and collaboration, they seem to be highly important for a director (and giving credit to the people who deserve it is just as important)
This channel is really helpful for me and gives lot of information and knowledge. You have cover all the crew members. But can you make a video on 1st assistant director and there work and responsibilities through the film shoot.
Loved the video. I have one question, though. It is my understanding that in animated movies, the producers are given more credit than directors. Can you make a video that explains why that is?
I have a question… I and my friend were arguing about who has the right to say so when it comes to actors and actress. can Film distributors say to a producer/ director, that they don’t want this actor or actress in the movie?
Hi I am always interested in directors and their role in making a move good or not. Without being specific do directors get a weekly wage, or a set fee, and do they get a share of any profits? it must be hard trying to wonder where your next job or pay check is comiong from.
And thank YOU for bringing race and gender into yet another comment thread where it wasn’t necessary. There certainly isn’t enough of that in the year of 2022
I think a better way of saying things, would be thanking the video creator for bringing up talented directors... Doesn't matter their gender or race, all that matters is how good they are... Really strange comment you wrote. And it's funny, because, implicitly, your comment seems to put whatever their gendrr/race above their craft, their hard work, their talent. In the end, comments like yours are the ones that divide, rather than bring together. You are a participamt of the very own issue you wanna defend.
Jadi pertanyaannya Mereka setelah ini pada kuliah sambil ngonten atau mereka bakal fulltime di JELEE? 😅 Karena yang nganggep JELEE ini profesi kan cuma Kano sendiri.

I echo this sentiment.

Great video as always !
As someone starting in the industry, super mood. 🤣🤣. It's like a requirement for them.
Some directors, once they get a take they are happy with, will shoot an extra take and allow the actors to improvise or experiment with the scene.

@@sketchleaf7698 Thanks buddy, hopefully one day!
Congratulations to you... I am 23.. Trying very best to get my work made 😊
me, too, I've worked on undies and have been auditioning....sending in another self tape by Sat.
Sorry this is late, but I want to be a director, and I’m about to graduate high school. Where do I even start?
I’m learning more with you than in all my 2 years in university studying film. Appreciate you so much 🙏🏼
Where are you going. ?
I have heard this from so many people who went to film school. What is going on?

This is why I respect all directors, regardless if I like or dislike their movies.
Some directors are pretty lazy and self centered tho (Pitof)

Noticed a lot of directors back then dressed so professionally on set. Wearing full suits must have been a hassle on sunny days.
david Lynch has dress code...so does wes Anderson and even Nolan
They dont need to be dressed at all to do their work!
Very informative. Could you please make a video about the job of an Assistant Director . Thanks
Thanks for always showing a diverse representation on your videos. It hasn't gone un-noticed.
xoxo
second this!
You’re making some of the best film-related videos on RUclips. Absolutely gold and informative. Thank you mate.

I really enjoyed it. I liked how it made me think about filmmaking at the scene level, its emotional intent and execution.

The ending credits artwork looks similar to Louise Zerg's stuff. :)

do directors write the script ?
In a lot of cases yes, but some also direct screenplays written by others or co-write the screenplay
Thank you for including female directors. Many male youtubers/podcasters never include female directors.
so a director is in charge of making everything good
Wow, no mention of David Fincher!
