It's heartbreaking how the reason this starts off is that Freeze respected Batman enough after the events of Arkham City to not want to take up arms against him again. He was done fighting Batman and saw him as probably the closest thing to a friend he had in the world. I do wish we had a gotten one final piece of dialogue between Freeze and Batman where they could say "thank you" to one another and share their mutual respect. Batman deserved to hear that from him
Imagine you’re Freeze trying to accept that your wife, who you have worked so hard to save, is going to die soon, and Batman just walks up like “You didn’t say thank you, Victor….”
It was better to leave him be. By opening his helmet, Freeze prove that he is going with her to death. That will be his thank you to Batman, letting him die in peace with his beloved wife. Batman did something similar with a few versions of Joe Chill: letting him die in peace, knowing that he regretted his actions that night and that it haunted him just as much as it does Bruce still. Sometimes without knowing he created Batman, sometimes knowing he did, but no matter what it still gave him peace all without having to say the words.

Honestly, I see a nice parallel between Freeze & the Final Fantasy version of Shiva, where she might seem cold and uncaring (she has complete dominion over Ice), and yet Shiva is easily one of the kindest, nicest, and most compassionate Eidolons/Espers/Aeons/Primals etc. Had Freeze found a way to save Nora, I have no doubt that he would have been all too willing to help Batman when he needed it, especially if it was because of Batman's help that Freeze was able to save Nora. Freeze isn't really evil at heart, he's a sad and broken man who only wants to save the woman he loves. Everything about Victor is so relatable. If my wife of 23 years, whom I have been friends with since we were children, was dying and I had a chance to save her, I would do anything, pay any price for that chance. Ehhh….killing innocent people to save the one you love is a pretty atrocious, and absurdly selfish thing to do. How many wives, and husbands do you think Victor took from their significant others in his quest to save Nora? It really is amazing how in comic history, Mr. Freeze went from just one of Batman's many "joke villains" to one of Batman's most complex and deeply sympathetic anti-villains
All thanks to Batman: The Animated Series. This where Mr. Freeze was rewritten to be a complex and relatable character. The comics were wise to adapt that change.
He's just a man who cares so much about his wife he's willing to do whatever it takes to try and save her, sometimes struggling to justify what he's doing. He doesn't have many hidden motives or quirks so I wouldn't really call him a complex character.
Sometimes is is a matter of getting the right Creative Team to work with the character. An example of this is Aquaman, in the right hands he is an outstanding character, but unfortunately if not you get "The Superfriends."

I cried the first time I played this DLC. Mr. Freeze isn't exactly evil, he is just doing the wrong things for a right cause... Now he has spent decades to cure his wife and for what? Everything destroyed and his wife didn't even want to be saved anymore for a long time. Even then she still loves him and wants nothing more than spend her last days with him.
Man that's actually really heartbreaking. Nora gets to live only in days, not a year, not a couple of months, but days. Imagine spending the last remaining days with the person you love most and then living the rest of your days without them, while unable to reverse the damage you done in trying to save them in the first place. Man I wish Freeze actually had a happy ending, in a way he does. He manages to get closure with his wife.
I imagine that after Nora died of her disease a few days after 'Arkham Knight''s ending, Freeze promptly either: (1) killed himself, or (2) he died due to the wasting effects of his "core temperature lowered" condition (in this game, unlike in the last couple, he seems to have necrotic patches on his face, probably as a mythology gag to how his condition eventually decayed his body in TAS which could also hint that the same has started to happen to him in the 'Arkham' games continuity only without his head surviving).
The irony of Frieze's situation is that in basically every incarnation its always Batman who helps protect his wife Nora, and helps to save her. Frieze may be a lunatic but he also is one of the few among Batman's Rogue's Gallery who is actually going to the lengths that he is in order to save his wife and thus has a "Good Reason" for what he is doing. This is primarily where in all his forms Victor always realizes that in the end Batman is actually his closest ally in solving the problem for which he has motivated. He knows that he can actually Trust Batman when he gives his word to do something.
The new 52 version was so wrong😑 They made Victor another crazy and Nora’s some random frozen woman Freeze became obsessed with, it was just terrible. This is the only way to make Freeze cool :)
I like that even after all Victor has done and become, Nora still chooses to stay with him in her final days alive. She could’ve been angry, she’s been frozen for awhile and deserved to feel that way. But instead she was sad because of what Victor became just for her. I hope it’s revealed that they made the most of their time together.
There are three types of Batman villains -the kind that break out of Arkham Asylum -the kind that break out of Black Gate prison -and the kind that break our hearts
I'm still blown away by Nora's model and performance. She stands out among a game of standouts. I simply fell in love with her character, realized after so long a frozen entity in the games. The closeup of her teary, bloodshot eyes felt next-generation good. Their final dialogue is simply beautiful. Who knows how much time any of us have? And then SCREEECH. They go from one of the most poignant moments back to the main gameplay with an offhand transition. Batman's like, "Yeah, we won't hear from them again. Moving-right-along, Alfred. What's next?" It makes me laugh every time.
Y'know, I've always had a feeling that Mr. Freeze and Batman know each other on a personal level too. Freeze is the only real human villain in his lineup, and has the absolute best backstory of any villain I've seen in a comic book. Maybe he works so well with Bruce, because he - as Victor - know who is behind the mask. Who else would be able to fund, invent or cooperate with a man like Freeze? Hence why he doesn't always immediately resort to violence. He's the only villain who - if they called him "Bruce" - it genuinely wouldn't shock me that he knew.
Hope they will, and put a competent cast of writers and directors behind it. But for now, we only have Batman : SubZero (a movie which takes place in the BTAS universe I think).
this is why batman is the best. he's always got the big picture in mind, and treats even murdered with compassion. he's on a first name basis with his enemies, and is willing to help them out if its the right thing to do. its actually quite inspiring.
Arkham knight kills me because so many of the storylines teased from Arkham city had really disappointing and rushed endings. But they absolutely nailed the ending to Mr.Freeze and Nora
I always thought they nailed a lot of the continuity from Arkham City like Riddler/Catwoman/Batman, Mr Freeze, Joker being locked away in the back of Batman's mind etc. I didn't like the whole "Red Hood is Arkham Knight" or "Barbara Gordon gets turned into a mary sue type character" since in the comics, it's pretty much shown that Barbara can fend for herself.
@@GenGamesUniverse I think the message there for Barbara was that even if you're capable of defending yourself, being crippled still has massive disadvantages, one being the obvious one, mobility. Take that away then what the hell can Barbara do? Crawl away if she gets caught without a weapon. @@GenGamesUniverse I thought they made it pretty clear that Barbara wasn't defenceless, she actually manages to leave a clue for Batman to follow after forcing the vehicle transporting her to crash, that doesn't sound defenceless to me
.. I hope that one day, Victor Fries gets his happy ending. He's the first of the Rogues I felt legitimately sorry for, and that guy above everyone else deserves to get his wife back.
Agreed. In nearly all incarnations of Batman, Fries never got a happy ending. The closest he ever got, was in his Animated Movie Debt, where Nora was confirmed to have survived and received emergency treatment to allow her to live... But it's a Bittersweet ending, considering that Fries could no longer be with her due to his crimes, the movie ending with Fries just... Crying Tears of Joy to just _Know_ his Beloved Nora got to live... Then limping back into the Arctic, back into self-imposed exile. That was Victor Fries' "Happiest Ending"... The Knowledge his Beloved Nora lived... But due to his Crimes, he could not be with her.
@@Victor-056 And I still think he deserves a true happy ending, though to be fair, at least in that film he got to see that Nora was okay. Though here's the question: How WOULD one go about giving him his happiness and a redemption arc?
@@thegameknight8916 if Nora illness was cured and in no danger of death we'd see a much happier version of Mr Freeze...maybe even become a crime fighter or help others with his medical expertise as his redemption to make up for all the crimes he's commited. First at all Batfleck was the worst. Looked cool - but uninspiring, boring bs Secondly, thats bot even his suit. Its the suit from batman dark knight returns. Where he plays an older batman
@@Akhtar93 nope that's definitely the suit from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Zack Snyder's Justice League. It's very similar because the suit design is one of the many things BvS took from that one Frank Miller Batman story that's really bad but people like for some reason.
Victor Fries is one of those rare villains that holds the potential for redemption. All he wanted was to save his dying wife and was the victim of a corrupt, selfish man who preached humanitarianism while hypocritically looking at only for himself and the next highest dollar. And what's worse is the damage done to his body keeps him frozen in another sense. He cannot move forward and find someone else. Longing for somebody frozen alive while he, himself, cannot survive outside of a subzero environment. Every single one of his crimes is aimed at the possibility of a cure for his wife. And it's never about trying to find a cure for his own condition; the fact that he holds his wife's well-being above his own is a very redeeming quality. I sincerely wish they find a way to make this ending to his story on the big screen. They really screwed him up on Gotham. Maurice LaMarche did a fantastic job as Victor the cool duality of the dispassionate and passionate tone of voice was just so spot on with Michael Ansara from BTAS.
I don't think Mr Freeze is a villain. He's made mistakes to be sure. But any man wanting to protect and save their loved ones would certainly make the same choices right? Are we humans really that transparent that we'd condemn a man who is desperate to cure his wife's illness?
And yet a lot of people always say the story in Arkham knight is terrible. I know this small scene doesn't reflect the story as a whole, but it's little moments like this where I am like what?? The story is really good in this game. And this isn't the only scene like this. I think Arkham Knight had a great story!!
I like how at the end, batman just.. leaves them to their moment. Even the look in his eyes soften a bit there before he grapples out of there. No need for him to be a third wheel.
I think that was because in a way he related to Freeze because he reminded him of well himself when he was a kid when he lost his parents, that's why he's even Batman to begin with because of a promise he made to I'm guessing either his mother or father before that night.
This is a Batman villain i want to see in the next movie, he's complex, intimidating, but above all relatable. It really put in perspective just how far one man will go to save the one he loves, but also gives a warning about becoming something that could destroy the very thing we're trying to save. I really hope they Give Freeze a decent chance and to give him the respect that his character deserves.
"I don't want you to die Nora" "Then let me live" It's never about time.... it's about the moments... never worry about the time you have left. Live, for the moments
Victor is the most terrifying of villains to face, he is not born of rage but rather compassion and love for his wife, a force to be reckoned with, simply cause as you fight him you know he’s simply a broken man that took a wrong turn and feels as if he’s too far not actually a evil person
It isn't. And that BvS suit was perhaps the worst live-action Batman suit I've ever seen. Hell, even Batfleck was horrible as Batman. Come to think about it, there was *nothing* good about that entire movie except the fact it ended.
My only complaint about the beyond suit is that there’s no cape. Yes I know Batman beyond isn’t suppose to have a cape, but to me Batman doesn’t look right without it.
doubt it cause thats hollywood that wants to mess up for the sake of money and other things and with warner bros screwing up as well, they'll just say that he murdered his wife and with harley quinn with nora having sex with zeus id say that show is appalling
Just here as a reminder that all this story was thrown out the door for harely to say a funny one liner and shoot bruce in the head on a park bench. Kevin Conroys last roll.
It wasn’t Kevin’s last role and using Kevin is bad , in general them killing of Arkham batman one of the most iconic video game characters ever in a sour way was a very bad decision.
He would go so far to save his wife, but his wife is willing to throw her chance to live away just so he can live and have a life and be the man she fell in love with. Their story always makes me want to cry
A character can most certainly be a villain even though they have honorable intentions that are not inherently evil. Sometimes the most dangerous villains of all fall into this category... because they justify the actions they take by believing the thing they're fighting for is a noble cause. The type of people that believe the ends always justify the means. For example... Darth Vader, Roy Batty, Tyler Durden, Magneto, Light Yagami, Killmonger, Bill the Butcher, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc..... And in real life this represents most criminals too. Most people who've ever committed evil or morally questionable acts thought they were doing something righteous or justifiable. Otherwise they would've never done it. And that's the point! Most people are unfortunately prone to think they're the heroes of their own little worlds... and they very often disguise this as "Well I'm just a tough guy who can make the tough decisions"... sound familiar? Because they're everywhere across the world! And its totally fine to feel empathy for them in the regard if you feel sorry for them. But it doesn't change the fact that they deserve to be punished if they commit an immoral act.
Everyone have correct intentions according to their own selves. It takes a good heart and mind to have real good intentions and morally right way to achieve it.
Ends do justify means though. Look at the Nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. How many innocent civilians melted away that day? but it's okay because "Land invasion would take more lives" America is still seen as a hero. Japanese people think Americans are their friends nowadays. thousands that melted away in that massive warcrime got justified by the end. So why should any human stop trying? it's only unjustifiable if you fail. as long as you get to your objective you can cover over it all and walk away into a happy life.
@@ayyylmao101 except that belief also presumes that any religion has it right. If there's something more than a cessation of consciousness, I highly doubt any belief system has it 100% accurate, let alone that it would magically line up with our human morals.
The fact that every recent Freeze depictions keeps the main conflict, but always has new ways of making tragedy is always my favorite part of the character, seeing how many ways he can suffer, only for him to never give up hope for Nora, even when it is making him a villain is truly emotional seeing all the ways they go about with his conflicts, especially when the conflict of this one is him losing Nora because he didn’t want to hunt Batman!
i still think we need a live action batman movie where while suited up instead of the actor dropping and shifting his voice they just dub over him with kevin conroy
Honestly, even though the final tank fight was extremely short, it was so intense. Batman who keeps fighting against a never ending tank attack until all explode and goes blank was so epic.
The Arkham series had so many emotional scenes. Harley mourning Jokers death, then Ivy’s death where Ina. Way she redeemed herself by literally saving Gotham and then this scene. This scene rlly is amazing. Nora just asking to spend her moments with Victor was so cool to see. What’s cool about the Arkham series is how Harley became worse after Jokers death or leaving him and Freeze was presented in a more humane way.
The animated series is responsible for this style of victor freeze, and it's fitting since these games are written by the man who made that series so legendary.
What I love about the Batman: Arkham series is they bring so much justice to the source material while maintaining comic-book accuracy. I never played Arkham Knight, but this final scene is amazing. It's a scene we'll probably never see in a Batman movie since the movies try to be too realistic these days. It's a scene that's like a comeback from the mess of Batman & Robin, and shows why Mr Freeze appeared to be a villain, and it humanises him. The dialogue between him and Nora is a tragic love story, with the line "then let me live" being so powerful. Batman has always been important to me, and with DC still yet to get it's films consistently right, Batman: Arkham has done so much for me.
I do love how this was so much better a conclusion than the animated movie where they successfully cured Nora. They cannot have a happy ending. That's just not how this story works. Nora has been dead for a long time. Victor simply cannot let her go. In this, they get a brief epilogue together before finally ending together. My take was that when Nora passed on, Victor simply turned off his suit and willingly died himself.
From what I’ve read, Freeze finally managed to heal Nora, but she’s been frozen like that for so long that she’s basically come down with the same condition as her husband. Only instead of focusing on being reunited with him, and holding on for a treatment that could restore their bodies to normal, she decided to drag the rest of the world down to Absolute Zero with her. So Mr Freeze is now teaming up with Batman to stop her. Ouch! Talk about a cold snap!
I’m glad they did this. Gives closure for fans. Mr Freeze has always been a tragic villain. What he did, he did out of love and desperation. Something many people can sympathize with (or empathize, I always get them mixed up). And I’m glad he didn’t even want to fight him. He knows Batman isn’t his enemy, that he’s helped him many times and is his best shot at getting Nora back. It’s just too bad it couldn’t have been a happier ending for Victor and Nora. But days together is worth more than a 1,000 years waiting.
This DLC is probably my favourite in the whole arkham series Mr Freeze is one of my favourite villains of all time ever since the animated series and it always made me emotional that this man did everything to save his wife he was wrong but I understood his anger and I pitied him. Seeing a form of conclusion for the two of them made me happy that these two can spend what time they had together. I don't think Arkham Knight is a masterclass story to tie up the end of the arkham series but the DLC I think really did the game a world of good especially for my boy.
It's heartbreaking to know that despite all his efforts, there is no happy ending for Victor and Nora. All they can do is spend what little time they have left alive together.
As much as I want them to be cured, her of her illness and him of his frozen condition, I think having them pass on together is ok too. Her passing from her illness and Victor holding her close with the warmth he hasn't felt in years. Both being freed from their cold prison. 💙-❤️
Bats probably didn't see him as a threat. Freeze only has a few days to spend with his wife, so it's extremely unlikely that he'll squander that by doing something stupid.

Arkham really humanized Freeze. He’s cold but a pretty warm heart. All he wanted was his wife to be alive.

Had Freeze found a way to save Nora, I have no doubt that he would have been all too willing to help Batman when he needed it, especially if it was because of Batman's help that Freeze was able to save Nora. It's sort of implied that Victor likely let himself die after Nora does, with his suit being damaged and her being his own reason for living.
Sometimes the happiest ending you can get is to die on your own terms, living life to the fullest with what you've got left.

Indeed. Especially the ones responsible or intending for mass destruction, like Vergil, Eren, etc.
Everyone have correct intentions according to their own selves. It takes a good heart and mind to have real good intentions and morally right way to achieve it.
Ends do justify means though. Look at the Nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
How many innocent civilians melted away that day? but it's okay because "Land invasion would take more lives"
America is still seen as a hero. Japanese people think Americans are their friends nowadays. thousands that melted away in that massive warcrime got justified by the end.
So why should any human stop trying? it's only unjustifiable if you fail. as long as you get to your objective you can cover over it all and walk away into a happy life.

This DLC was so much feels :(
Fall of icebergs and holding hands remind me of Fight Club's ending.

I like the Arkham games Freeze, he’s more of an antihero and not so much a villain.
A love that stretches across the long lonely years...that will endure in death, and beyond.
The animated series is responsible for this style of victor freeze, and it's fitting since these games are written by the man who made that series so legendary.
People are willing to do anything for their loved ones, even if it corrupts them, or kills them. Mr. Freeze is a tragic but well thought out villain.
This is very bittersweet, but the best sort of ending for Mr. Freeze and his wife.
"Time has never been on our side" - Real world quote right there, wife and I feeling it now. Love every day all and smile.
Why does this always get me choked up?
Because you like lying.
Because you have a heart
Let's see which opinion is more based in a while.
@@dkkanofkash8798 I'm not sure what that means. Can you elaborate?
@@Watch-Man Thank you; you're very kind.
3:55, even batman is surprised.
Also, I think Alfred is cutting up onions, cause I'm tearing up right now
Batman seeing Nora and freeze having a sad moment: Damn thats crazy, oh my batwing's here, laterr
If they had sex right on the spot, it wouldn't have been nearly as intimate as that moment.
Bats was just giving them some privacy.
Makes me appreciate the ending of Batman & Mr Freeze Subzero even more.
His actions were so commendable the water started to applause Batman.
Freeze has got to be the most human villain in the Batman universe. He's just a man that loves his wife and will literally do anything to save her.
1:50 Otisburg? Nice nod to the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie.
5:36 I’m super proud 🥹 of Nora confronting him not to be in cryogenics anymore.
Just here and Kevin Conroy's voice😢
"Find her batman, please"
The emotion. The pain so raw and yet so willing to trust the one person who keeps his word.
As much as I want them to be cured, her of her illness and him of his frozen condition, I think having them pass on together is ok too. Her passing from her illness and Victor holding her close with the warmth he hasn't felt in years. Both being freed from their cold prison. 💙-❤️
Makes me think of “a hero would sacrifice you for the world, but a villain will sacrifice the world for you”. Really fits Freeze’s complexity
"Nora, I suppose we can...go home...I've learned of this thing the kids do called Netflix and Chill."
I’m happy Batman didn’t arrest him so they could be together
Bats probably didn't see him as a threat. Freeze only has a few days to spend with his wife, so it's extremely unlikely that he'll squander that by doing something stupid.

This was when Mr Freeze was still normal.. not like 2024…😂
I love that Freeze is only a villain because he'd kill for the one he loves.
Poor guy just went crazy obsessing.
Since I was a kid I cried cuz I felt for him. I'm a man now and married, this hits harder.
This side mission had the best Batmobile section hands down
