Complete nonsense that it’s expensive and difficult. I have been doing all my own cooking for 40 years, first as a vegetarian and from 2000 as a vegan. I make curries even down to roasting and grinding my spices and using a blender to make pastes. I make a whole range of pasta sauces making my own sauces. Soups are easy, rice dishes are easy, stir fries are easy, even making your own burgers or fritters. I just love home vegan cooking. Thanks Joey for this video and you say you are not a cook but that is how I started. All the best.

With myself plants come from the ground and from trees. There is only one way to eat plants and that is raw. Rice is not for human consumption because you have to cook it otherwise you will get sick. There is only one kind of bean you can eat raw and that is the green bean.
I am a proud anti vegan I get asked since I am a anti vegan what am I doing on vegan channels. Well I once had a RUclips channel myself with hunting, fishing, taxidermy, and gunsmithing. Since I am in that industry I also did cooking with fish and game.
I had vegans on my channel all the time they had hateful messages for me. I asked them why are they on a channel for hunters and fisherman. They said that they have a right to be there making their voice for the voiceless.
After a while I had the same ones on I would just tell them that I would see them next week. But the hate comments turned into threats against my family and friends. A couple of them were actual threats against my kids so I pulled everything down.

@@abileat1494 How do I feel is an interesting question. Psychologically I feel liberated and physically I feel better than when I was in my thirties. I feel full of energy. That wasn’t always the case when I started the journey. When I did turn vegan I ate a lot of processed foods and faux meats. Those foods are just treats now as I switched to a whole food plant based diet in the last few years. That is when I noticed the difference. I also reminded myself why I became vegetarian and then later vegan. It was for the animals.

Of course, it's subsidised. A) not all veg are from the UK and one imported here are most of the time subsidised. B) meat industry is subsidised and is supporting the veg industry, especially grain production, so not directly but it is benefiting from meat subsidies. True is that food is way too cheap due to processes and modifications. Your 80p tomatoes are not tomatoes. One more brainbuster, why plant food is popular?? Because is cheap af to produce and margin on it is something that the food industry has never seen before, so they pump the massive amount of money in marketing.

Fun fact: Animal products are only artificially cheap because of massive subsidies to the industry.
As an example, american governments spend $38 billion each year to subsidize meat and dairy, but only 0.04% of that ($17 million) to subsidize fruits and vegetables etc.
Yet, even the basic dietary guidelines urge us to eat more fruit and veg and less cholesterol-rich food (that is, animal products/ meat and dairy)

@Michael Gamble If ethics are subjective, then why is it wrong for someone to kill you according to their own ethics?
Also, how are vegans being self-righteous when they are being selfless by thinking about the impact on animal suffering?

    • @HolisticPython
      @HolisticPython 3 года назад +9

@Michael Gamble Yes, my lifestyle is better than yours. I'm not supporting needless slavery, rape, torture and murder of innocent, defenseless animals for taste buds, but you do.
You don't live in some third world country where you're starving, so you've no excuse.
Also, calling insults to vegans and being generally insulting doesn't add any value to your case. You're not a victim here, the animals are.
I never said killing is always wrong. Killing an innocent person is ALWAYS wrong. That's not subjective, that's morally objective.
Like I asked before, if ethics are subjective, then according to your logic, it's not wrong for someone to kill you. Of course, you'd naturally be against that.

It tells you how much iron, calcium you need to eat every day.
A healthy vegan meal looks like this.
Rice (brown is better), lots of vegetables (vitamins and minerals) and a protein source (lentils, beans, chick peas, tofu etc.)
You eat like that and you'll be incredibly healthy.
You may need a b12 supplement
And honestly if you're unsure about your diet and how healthy it is, just take a multivitamin.

You can make vegan food extremely cheap. Right now I'm only spending 40 dollars a month on food. A MONTH. And that's without sacrificing calories or nutrients. If you constantly look for the best deals and buy the right products it's pretty easy to save money. Just as a reference, I used to spend about 300 dollars a month on food but I realized how much money I was throwing away.

    • @alchemists4443

A MONTH? I wish I could do that QnQ
I’m vegan, and I use $50 a week. I always look for the best deals and the cheapest food (sometimes I get the bigger, bit more expensive option, because per gram/whatever the bigger option is cheaper.)
Last time I went shopping I got almond milk for my tea, orange juice, tofu, hummus, pita bread, peppers, spaghetti, mixed greens, cranberries, pecans, and a bag of potatoes :C which isn’t a ton
But then again I do buy the limit if items are on sale too, so those items usually do last more than a week/month ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My biggest tip is to get the majority of your calories from whole grain pasta, potatoes, oats, legumes and rice. Find the cheapest of the cheapest brands and stock up big if you find good deals. My food budget is on the extreme end which means I won't spend any money at all on things that makes my food tasty like sauces and spices. I'm no joking. I will eat straight oats and potatoes with nothing on them. You don't have to go as extreme as me, but it is a possibility if you're a cheap skate like me or if you're in a bad financial situation. Obviously buy more different foods than what I listed here, but my biggest saving tip is to get the majority of your calories from the cheapest starches. They are pretty much free.

I've been vegan for over 2 years now and haven't had any of the problems that Alex has had with his diet and have actually been able to gain weight since then which was something I had a difficult time with my entire life previously. Alex's arguments were a massive factor in my decision to switch over, and they still hold true in my head regardless of what he does. One of the biggest changes for me was actually being forced to pay attention to the food I eat and the nutrition I get from it, something I never did when I was eating animal products. Not paying attention to what I was eating because I could eat everything lead to me just consuming a lot of empty calories or junk food. I understand some people have difficulty maintaining a vegan diet. I don't because my wife has been vegan for years, and my parents are also vegan now so whether I am eating at home or visiting my parents, I am surrounded with tasty vegan food and the thought of animal products doesn't come up. This is a luxury I have that I recognize not everyone does. I agree with Alex that individual boycotts of animal products is not the way to create systemic change, but that doesn't change the fact that it has been beneficial to me and a massive factor in my decision to switch were Alex's arguments.
I'm not sure if your comment was meant to be some sort of "gotcha" but I don't actually base my life decisions off of what a RUclips creator does. I will however listen to arguments presented by them and evaluate it for myself.

Tip for lentil curries chuck a bit of coconut cream in there towards the end. Cans are pretty cheap. Also a bit of cumin powder, turmeric powder and chilli powder if you can find some. Cumin powder especially goes really well with lentil curries. To add more flavour you can brown a few pieces of garlic, onion and mustard seeds in oil at the start as well. Good stuff ✌️

If you fry them quick on this heat, taste goes lovely n charred, still crunchy! N add dark soy sauce n spring onions at the end.. I made enough for 2 but ate the lot, amazing! 🥳 Oh always add tofu!

I've been plant-based (for health) for a month and a half and vegan (for the animals) for 2 weeks (thanks to Ed, Joey and all the documentary makers, I'm bingeing your content), and my number 1 tip is to get a pressure cooker. It's something used in basically every house in India - I have a small 2 L Hawkins pressure cooker that I use on a portable induction stovetop (fastest and most energy efficient way of cooking). I usually use the pressure cooker three times - once for the red rice (that's what we call brown rice), then for legumes (beans soaked overnight, lentils for 20 minutes), then for a selection of veggies (which I pressure steam). Some beans might need to be pressure cooked for 10-15 minutes to soften up nicely, but usually it takes only 2-4 minutes and I turn it off right after the first whistle. Then I fry up some onions, garlic, ginger and spices with a small amount of oil, incoporate the legumes and veggies and make a salad to go on the side. I use Dr Greger's Daily Dozen app and try to get as many of those servings in as possible.

"Veganism is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce our environmental impact, study finds: Researchers at the University of Oxford found that cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual's carbon footprint from food by up to 73 %.
If everyone stopped eating these foods, they found that global farmland use could be reduced by 75 %, an area equivalent to the size of the US, China, Australia and the EU combined.
Not only would this result in a significant drop in greenhouse gas emissions, it would also free up wild land lost to agriculture, one of the primary causes for mass wildlife extinction.

I have been wanting to go vegan for a few years now but even without being a vegan I really struggle to cook, this video has really helped and I could quite happily live on food like this. However, I'm guessing it's not good to live on just curry and bolognaise and burgers for 7 days? how long does all the veg last? I get really too overwhelmed by the other in and outs and really could do with a mentor.

Maybe look at Dr Greger's 'Daily Dozen' video/app checklist. He lists the healthiest foods such as flax seeds, berries, green leafy veg, wholegrains that people should eat everyday! Cronometer is also worth looking at; it's a website where you input what you've eaten in a day and it tells you how much vitamin A, protein etc. you have consumed. Regardless of diet I'd reccomend a Vitamin D3 supplement (2500i.u.) each day (if you are in the uk) as sunlight during autumn/winter isn't strong enough for our needs. Red cabbage is the best 'bang for your buck' nutrition wise at around 49p per cabbage (in tesco); and keeps for about a week or more. You could try and 'veganise' the meals you are currently eating if you only want a small initial change.

    • @adorable3817
      @adorable3817 3 года назад

It's perfectly healthy. Those veggies give you all you need. I didn't believe it either, so I downloaded the Cronometer App. It breaks it down, shows how much Vitamin A, C, iron, potassium etc you're getting.
It'll blow your mind how nutritious all that food is.
You could easily live on that until you die, livibg a healthy life.

I find it amusing too how the cheapest vegan food is the healthiest too, so by going on a budget on a vegan diet you're most likely becoming healthier as a side effect! Beans, rice, pasta, lentils, seeds, fruit, veggies etc
You can find most of the simple stuff at budget supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl which brings down the price again

If you shop at Tesco and Aldi, you can easily live on 20 quid a week. I found 2 vegan chicken burgers for a quid the other day at Morrisons. Just check online what deals are on and visit the different shops , so easy.

Great video. Your very fortunate to have Tesco where food is so cheap. It’s not all about shopping on a budget, many people don’t have the ability to even cook basic food. It’s great you show how to cook things too. You could also have made burgers with your lentils, oats, onions and a bit of veg.

Also they have their 25% lower sugar tins of beans which state vegan for 30p and okay so this isn’t cheap but they have vegan chilli con carne in a tin for 1.20 which is ideal if you’re in a rush. Annnnd their plant chef vegan soups are great only 45 p x
