Such a great idea, love it! Maybe if you have some trustworthy people who know a lot about veganism, you could use one of them to stand by the screen and give people information about the video, just like at the AV. The important thing with this kind of public activism is, the person has to look fresh and dress clean and in modern fashion just like you, otherwise the people will not really want to listen. Maybe...

I love that he understood the situation the homeless woman was in and didn't keep pushing. We need to know who our target demographic is as activists. If we're not kind in the process, nothing we do means anything - people won't hear us. Good on ya Joey!

I’ve been vegetarian for 30 years now though, but am unable to go vegan.
I have been switching to oat milk (although I do take boxed cow’s milk from the food pantry if they offer it and don’t have a vegan milk).
I mostly can’t make the full switch because I am very underweight as it is due to the fact I can’t cook much in the kitchen. I am mostly bed-ridden with chronic pain and I can’t stand up or sit upright for very long due to a disastrous failed back surgery back in 2004.
I need the extra calories and protein I get from quick meals with eggs and cheese in them, as I’m only eating maybe one meal a day, and snack a bit otherwise.
Being a vegan - doing it right to where one is getting all the nutrients they need, takes extra prep/cooking time in the kitchen. There are foods I wish I could afford to eat more of (like I’d LOVE to have avocados every day, or my favorite vegetarian/vegan Amy’s frozen meals line), but I just can’t afford it on my SSC income. And a lot of vegan options/substitutes are indeed considerably more expensive.
I almost had a heart attack when I bought some Beyond beef one time, just to try it, as a treat. My boyfriend at the time paid for it, because he wanted to try it too, but the stuff was $10.00 per package of “ground beef!” We needed two of them for the meatloaf recipe we were cooking, so that was $20 _JUST_ for the “beef,” before even buying the rest of our ingredients. That’s a bloody joke! I’d never do it again (plus, I didn’t even like it at all - I had to douse it in A1 sauce to cover the taste).
I got a package of mushrooms from the pantry last Friday, and I’d love to make some veggie burgers with it, however I don’t have a food processor for starters, which I believe the recipes require, but also it looks like the prep/cooking time looks long in general, and it would kill my back standing that long (and I am single now too, so no help from a boyfriend).
Long story short: some people might want to become vegan, but their life circumstances simply won’t allow it.
you read my mind. there's a vegan on these vegan channels that continuously attacked every non-vegans, and even attacked me for being compassionate towards non-vegans. vegan or not, we need to be kind to each other and not push so hard when others are not ready for the change. everyone has different timeline to make the necessary changes. as vegans, we are kind, caring, respectful, and compassionate people. we also need to act accordingly as well if we want others to hear us.
I was homeless on the street for a while and I was vegan during that time. Just adding my perspective that it is possible and not that difficult.

Ryan What is offensive is using words like murder for animals. It is a legal term that only applies to humans.
Slavery is generally a term for owning *people* as property. For animals it is animal husbandry.
Also, most animals don't get tortured. At most you can call it abuse.
In case you were not aware, some words have multiple definitions. Pigeonholing an anthropocentric definition shows your intellectual dishonesty on this subject.

@@amero3577 😅 It's also stated that a lot of Western society are B12 deficient, despite being omnivores... B12 deficiency is because of our farming practices, not because of a vegan diet. So it's been recommended that we all take a B12 supplement.

It doesn’t matter if you’re vegan or not, the vitamins and minerals are artificially obtained anyways. Obtaining vitamins unnaturally isn’t necessarily bad at all

For this format you need a helper to cook while you engage. You're spreading yourself too thin here. You could have converted a few of those people on the spot I think if you would have been able to focus. It's a great idea for activism, you just need some help.

Yes we thought of this. I wanted to cook the burgers for the first round because I like cooking for people. Next time I’ll have a helper and just do the outreach :)

I work in food services on a college campus and I've been planning to make a video where I cook Beyond burgers for the students and they try the Beyond burgers & then sign a petition that I have to get Beyond burgers inside the dining halls and the campus that I work at. :)
I've also hosted a beyond burger barbecue in an art gallery downtown in my city :)

This is your best outreach video yet Joey. Your compassion in this was incredible. Watching the little girl shaking her head when she thought you were giving out meat was so adorable. Sad that so many kids are completely oblivious to the cruelty their food contains. Their innocence is so similar to that of a farmed animal. And yet parents teach them they need to eat animal products to be strong and healthy. The way you interacted with the homeless people and donated your equipment was so kind. You put so much effort into your activism and video production, inspires me to start some activism here in Melbourne!

But to answer you Meat does not give you heart disease... that has been debunked a thousand times vegans are the only people still talking about this old science. Let’s break this down they say saturated fat and cholesterol gives you heart disease if that were to be true why are babies who are breastfed the most robust/healthy with all that saturated fat and cholesterol clogging up their arteries. What I think your referring to is a hypothesis made by ancel keys in 1953 that has been disproven time and time again. I can bring up hundreds of studies that agree..it’s irrelevant because humans have evolved eating meat for millions of years so the burden of proof is on you.

This is a great idea Joey. I believe many people don't know that there are other things to eat besides salad, showing them how it's done is amazing... I went vegan after I was shown how it's done and that there are amazing vegan food. Not having that knowledge was the only thing really stopping me

I slipped in a Beyond Meat patty in my omnivorous / heavy meat-eater friends and family members' burgers, and they didn't even realize it was 100% plant-based patty. With vegan food businesses on the rise, the old notion that vegan food tastes horrible will change among meat-eaters. Thank you for doing such an important work. Ignorant humans must face the truth about the inhumane industry they're supporting. Consumers are catalysts to most problems in the world. It's a very effective activism approach to introduce tasty vegan food to more and more non-vegans. Humans usually open up to new ideas when they get free food.

since they are aware that the product was not made from slaughtered animals, it is a lot easier to be able to eat it -- they probably felt very good knowing they were eating something made from plants, rather than a separated mother cow dead after a quarter of their total lifespan (20 years)

I think this is a good idea as around 80% of people (in a survey I did for my dissertation) had nutrition worries about cutting out all animal products; so despite their ethical stance that could pose as a barrier to stop them changing

Joey this is the only video you have posted that actually makes me consider becoming vegan, and i have watched ALOT of your videos, I am a hypocrite i do admit that, my excuse is that i have no emotional connection to the animals i eat and i sort of stand by that. but this video is different, you were actually connected with everyone you spoke to, rather than being aggressive like in your other videos, it makes me want to become vegan to be part of what i just watched, to be part of something bigger than me, i admit its the wrong reason that's making me want to consider changing, but it is how i feel.

Really beautiful moment with the homeless couple, Joey. You fought for the animals but showed the two of them compassion and understanding that they have a lot of barriers that a lot of us may not understand.
My dad did a sausage sizzle recently (non-vegan) for the homeless, and someone in the homeless community requested a vegan option. Unfortunately they could only provide onions in bread. I think we have a pretty toxic view of homeless people in society, where we remove any agency from them and expect them to take any charity we give them (sugary food, animal products, etc.). We tell them to get a job and find agency, but the second that agency contradicts our own morals, how dare they.

Beggars can’t be choosers man. They are getting stuff for free that comes from what grocery stores will donate, or what the charity raises funds to buy food with. There simply isn’t enough vegans/vegetarians forth them to be catered to. That’s the truth.
I used to co host a memorial skeet shoot and BBQ. Money raised went to fight childhood cancer. From 1991 to 2016 we held the event. But 2014 we started to have vegans come out to debate with everyone.
They also got saying some hateful things to the other co host. It was her son who's honor it is held in. Finally in 2016 a fight almost broke out between a vegan body builder and my late friend's uncle. Since I own the shooting range I would be responsible for everything that happens on the property.
The board of trustees got together during the event that night and we decided not to have the event anymore. But every year on the same time seven of his closet friends get together and shoot clay pigeons. Instead of raising money for childhood cancer now we just have a traveling trophy that goes between us.
Our meal is a bunch of plants in a bowl and we always eat those plants raw. We figured since they come from the trees and the earth they don't need to be cooked. We still have a few vegans come out to see if we went back to the old ways of eating meat. Now they debate with us about the thousands of awesome cooked vegan recipes. It like you people just can't be happy with anything.
