This guy is an inspiration for Maverick owners.
DANG MAN! If you arent on the Maverick Truck Club you really should introduce yourself and this camper on there. Im an old school vanner, but when my last one had a transmission fire that killed it I started setting up our Bronco in a bit of a overlanding vibe. I got a solar, water, RTT, tarp awnings, and a fridge. But no where in the same galaxy of the level of quality you got going on here. Truly first class.
Dude!! This is AWESOME!! Looking for something like this for my Ford Maverick. Keep these videos coming!! Great Job 👍
Fantastic build!.. hands down the best Maverick camper yet! Thanks for sharing the video!
This is absolutely incredible. If I was more engineered I would definitely replicate this. All I have for my Mavi is a roof top tent but definitely think this tops any setup ive seen
Damn, that's the sweetest thing I have seen in a long while, and it's in a Maverick to boot.
This is perfect. This is what I've been looking for...I wish I could weld and laser cut stuff. Great job.
The thought and effort you put into this is amazing, good work man.
Dudes got the onewheels your set 💯
Kudos for an amazing design and build. This is just the sort of “Goldilocks” mini camper that I’d love to have.
Love the "Cardboard aided design" - Nothing beats visualization! Great job you did/had done on this project. Best from Germany!
Incredible job sir very proud of you hopefully you can Market these for us one day God bless you and yours
Can't wait to see some outdoor adventures in this rig!
Exceptional build, enjoy it!
Fantastic build.
Very creative. Made a big space and usefulness out of a little truck. Have to show us you using it out in the wild.
That was well thought out. Really nice 😮
This is freaking legit, good job on the work
Wow, that is a nice setup. Are you going to build these for sale, for those of us who aren't engineers or fabricators?
I'm sure he would, but the cost would probably rival the cost of the truck, seems.....not smart.
@@The_Internet_Is_Overrated nah but he did said it’s ‘cheaper than the truck’, whatever that means.
@@Taurineg sure hope it would be 😂
Holy cow!! I've been planning on transforming my maverick and yours it's just on a whole other level. I wish I had the creative mind you have 😅
Awesome setup!
Wow this is goals! I'm still waiting for my build date
Wow. Just WOW!!!
Great work man.
Great work 👌
GREAT WORK!
sunset photo at the end, nice finishing touch...
You have some mad skills.
dope set up
WOW!..very impressed
This is nice!
Well done, very nice 👍🏽
Hello, I'm really interested in a copy of your creation. if you don't intend to make one to sell, would it be possible to purchase a copy of the plans and specifications of your creation to recreate on our own?
I second that, I’d be interested in purchasing plans! Nice job!
You've got skills! Holy crap that is awesome. By far the nicest camper I've seen. Damn impressed!!!
Thanks for the kind words!
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 You seriously need to market this. This is best thing I have seen for the maverick and the overland community. I would buy one ASAP! For good money too. We have a sylvansport go right now being towed by our Jeep Patriot. I would love to swap to this self contained unit in the back of a maverick! GREAT WORK.
@@zrnewf looking like I’m building 5 starting in September.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 Thats awesome. Can it sleep 3 people? it looks like there is enough room there with the upper bunk and lower seat area
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 how do o get added to that build list and what is the cost? Haha
Nice vehicle!
Amazing
Remarkable accomplishment for (presumably) Version 1. Interesting example of "everything you need, nothing you don't" design concept. Hope you will do a follow up after sufficient real world use to discuss pro's and con's, lessons learned, thoughts for Version 1.1 etc. Have you given thought to future project using Ford EV F-150 or Tesla Cybertruck? (PS: Your pup looks great for 13+, hope you and he have many good miles and good times with your weekend wanders.)
Booyah 👊😁🇺🇲, the greatest maverick ever
Wow!
DAMNNNNNNN THAT IS CRAZY
wow!!! i need to make my maverick like this
Very nice
Very cool.
Very nice.... Definitely going to beat anything I built.
This is amazing 🤩 i want for my mav
Badass build guys. Wondering if 16s fit on the maverick?
You are saying, you made this? WOWA!
Nice
I swear it’s like people forgot what camping was all about - getting away from town or city life.
Now it’s like being the house with you, instead of focusing on camping - enjoying the outdoors!
I built this as more of a roadtrip machine. I totally agree, That’s why we don’t have a 45 foot class motorhome.
This could be a kit sold on the Ford Accessories website, lol, nice job.
This is my favorite video even after watching it 40 times
Booyah 👊😁👍🇺🇲
What would you charge or what would it cost to make another one?
This is hands-down the most pristine truck camper wedge-style build I have ever seen on any size build. That kitchen design and attention to detail on the exterior is astounding. I have built multiple full-time vans with all the goodies so I know what something like this takes to design/build minus all the fantastic aluminum work! My only question is what do you do about a full-size spare seeing that your rig is AWD? Cheers to you, mate!
Thanks for the kind words! A fullsize spare actually fits in the stock location. Something we get away with since its unibody and have no frame rails lol.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 Oh! Well then I take back that non-issue! Your walk-around from another channel didnt look like a KO2 under there but it was a brief shot! How is the Airlift treating you?
@@jamescliftonbates it’s not a Ko2, just a cheap tire. Different aspect ratio(narrower) but same overall diameter on a steel wheel. The bags are working trouble free. Although I did put a urethane spacer on top of the bag to take up the free space slack to the spring. In hindsight I would have use kit#60902 same diameter bag, 1” longer. But the urethane spacer achieves the same thing.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 Awesome! That explains it then! Always appreciate someone paying attention to all the details in a build. I'll likely run the same airbag setup to help with manageing the weight a bit. I appreciate your feedback!
Amazing and AWESOME...WISH I had imagination and engineering skills to do this
sweet
Excellent build! Could you share the dimensions of the bed and the roof?
I don't have a Maverick yet and I'm looking to build a slide in camper, but more affordable.
Me gusta ford maverick
Very 😎
It's so cool that it was designed even for the Onewheel Pints.
holy shit im looking for rooftop tents and i stumbled onto this. this thing must cost as much as the truck!
in components labor and skill
Great build, how possible would setting up systems (water/heat/elec/etc..) on a Hybrid mav be? I assume there are complications given the nature of the engine.
I want to get into camping and my next vehicle will be a maverick. Newb camping question, don't some camping grounds have access to toilets and showers? I am going to custom build but feel like I can save some $$ and space in the back to simply be a sleeping/storage back
Awesome build , how much would it be for a build like that ?
Also curious
Me too
It’s likely (think it was in another video) that cost was over $18k. The shell itself isn’t too expensive but all the little bits and bobs add up.
Wow I totally love the setup everything I was looking for to build for myself. Just have a question I am pretty easy on building something like that for myself bit it will make it alot easier if I can have the Plans including the laset Cuts. Please let me know if you can help i am might do some changes but everything else looking amazing. I am all about usability of everything and every inch while camping . I am totally impressed by the design and thought you put into it. Great Job
By the way I might have missed but did you laser cut aluminum or steel? I just want strong but supper light so I can still use more payload and also tow. I currently in process of building a custom light weight teardrop to be also towed . Imagine with that little truck whole family can sleep and camp including kids 😐 😁
Very well done. I'm wondering how much of this can be transferred with GFC's full setup as opposed to just the camper top, with some modifications and drilling.
Not sure that I understand the question? GFC does make and sell a Maverick specific model. No modifying required.
I wanna buy one of those please ! 😄🤚
Did you have to make ay suspension upgrades to manage the continuous weight? Does it stay on permanently? Looks great.
The camper only weighs ~700 lbs so no mods were really necessary. I did put helper airbags on it to re- level it .5” but they were unnecessary and have only a little but of air in them.
How is the fuel economy with all the added weight? Just curious. love the build! Keep the content coming. Cheers!
It’s only 700lbs. Less than half of the max cargo capacity of the bed. Getting 22mpg. But the tires and lift were the biggest hit to the mileage.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 do you have a tally for cost? I'm interested in doing something very similar
Whoah - this is my dream! June 20 build date. How'd you modify the back window (pop out the glass? Where did you get the replacement?)? How was GFC to work with?
The back window is the stock slider i just have the window/ opening in the camper in the right spot so when both are open, they line up. GFC is great. However you won’t get very far for your Maverick with them unless you’re looking to just buy a roof top tent. They don’t make anything for the Maverick. I made this camper and put their RTT on it. Thanks!
Where do we sign for this camper?
Another question. What else did you do to mount the 265/70r17s? I dont yet have my Maverick, but have come to understand fender trimming upfront is need for that size tire.
Trimmed the pinch seam in the front and the fender liners. No trimming in the rear.
Is this still in prototype/test phase? Will GFC be sharing updates on the website? While it is incredibly badass and this entire setup is great, i wonder if there's really a sustainable market for it considering most people buying Mavericks are doing so because they're cheap. I don't see many owners turning around and dropping over $10K on a camper. Great vid and awesome rig!
GFC is not building this as a product, nor did they build this one. I built it for myself and simply used a GFC tent as the top. And it cost waaayyy more than $10k.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 just a lowly peasant here so I was throwing a number out there! If you're lucky enough to have it, may as well spend it. Again, awesome rig!
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 I was going to say more like $25,000 on the low end to build.
Music is too loud but this is awesome!
Just wondering how much was this whole set up? Most ppl can barely afford the truck alone
What happens to the antenna on the roof of the truck?
What was the biggest killer of MPG for the truck you think? The GFC crew are claiming that the air resistance on the new pop top they made has no effect but that is hard to believe.
The lift and tires killed ours prior to the camper. Roughly only 1 mpg or so less with the camper.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 Got it!
Any downsides to the lift kit?
Thank you for the quick response, I'm looking at potentially using a maverick as my little moto hauler for races with a GFC. Thanks!
Do you sell the bottom part build ?
How comfortable is your dog. Did you adjust the back seat? I couldn't tell. I have a 65 lb'er who's old and needs to be comfy. Will this be a good vehicle for him?
Back seat is completely stock. Our dog is 13 years old and 42 lbs. He’s very comfortable and has plenty of space.
Would the exhaust be covered up if you close the tailgate? Seems like that could be dangerous. Thoughts?
Yes, but the entry door would also be blocked. The tailgate is always down when the camper is in use.
Are you selling the files? The Laser cut files? That is where my expertise ends. but welding it up, that I can do! Let me know please!
What kind of flexible solar panels did you place on top, and did you mount them? Thanks
There are 4 of these -> renogy.com/100-watt-12-volt-flexible-monocrystalline-solar-panel/
They’re mounted using 1” wide 3m VHB.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 thanks. Appreciate it.
Looks super nice but im thinking the camper would cost more than the Maverick.
I have my Hybrid XL getting built in July, I want a similar setup.
What does it weigh?
700 lbs complete it says in the description
@@PrimitivTool sorry I straight missed it.
I'd pay $5k and drive out to Cali from Texas for this ❤️
Yeah…. $5k isn’t going to get anywhere near a camper like this. There’s 3x that plus in materials alone.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 either way I hope it goes to market. Major props my dude. Looks amazing 😀
Only thing idont like is the bed sitting on top of the stove...
Any plans to share the CAD files?
Not at this point. Sorry.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 if you change your mind please let me me know. I was thinking about building something similar and files from a design as nice as yours would be super helpful
Sick build man
99.9999% of cheap ass maverick owners will never do this
Agreed. But I’m not trying to sell them, neither is GFC. Lol
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 I wish you would. Some of us don't have the skills to build something like this for ourselves.
@@Vivian_Bush there is a chance that I might do a small run of 5 or so. But the are not going to be cheap. I’m not saying that to be mean or assume someone can’t afford something. There’s just a lot of nice, expensive components involved and I’m not willing to cut corners. Thanks for the interest!
@@Vivian_Bush also. If I do make a small batch it will be made public here or on our Instagram page @wanderingtheweekend Thanks!
FORD PLEASE DONT INSTALL A ROOF ANTENNA .....JUST PUT IT SOMEWHERE ELSE
Haha. So true. I swapped ours for a smaller, non sharkfin one off of a Ford Escape.
Are you an engineer?
Yes
what are the holes in the GFC outer extrusion for? What is the wet weight of the camper?
They’re factory drain holes. 700#
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 that's light. I'm talking about those big as holes at 4:56. mine doesn't have those and it also has t-track on that part of the tent
@@daveh7945 oh. Haha. That’s the access holes for the fasteners that hold the tent extrusion to the the camper body. The t-track cover is just removed in that photo because I was mid build. Yours has them if you were to take the t-track cover off.
@@wanderingtheweekend-justin6791 thanks. I wondered how it was attached
With the amount of Maverick’s on order quit your day job & get the business off the ground. I’ll take one for my hybrid & can now tour North America when I retire without feeling guilty burning too much $6.00 a gallon gas.
Haha. I wish it were that simple! I’m not sure many understand the cost of a product like this. Not really sure that a lot of people are willing to buy a $25k camper for a $25-40k truck. Thanks though!
id like to buy one from you message me
Why couldn't Ford Build these at the St Paul Ranger Plant? Shame on Ford.
This is just too much. The bed of the truck is pretty gone.
Do y’all have an Instagram?
BTW I hope you get a TON of interest in this and make a business and get rich haha
Yes. @wanderingtheweekend Thanks.
thank fuck i dont like camping or else id be blowing half the cost of my mav on shit like this
