I am also considering an open bed rack with similar height RTT setup, but the protection of this enclosure and being able to stand is compelling. What is the total height of this in closed position installed on the Maverick? 6'10"? I am thinking this may fit in a standard garage door.

Here is a great option. Look at the Ford Maverick camper tent under to RUclips channel "Gear Gadget Experiments" . Affordable, easy set-up, and easy to take down and put up if you want to drive away. Too many of the fancy truck tents are very expensive- and you can't drive away easily without taking down everything and re-setting up.

This is in the Ridgeline and Santa Cruz overland category, not Tacoma/Frontier/Ranger. Is that gas mileage you mention what you're observing on that truck with the camper installed? I'm very curious how the extra weight and height affects gas mileage. All in all it looks a very nice package. Roof rack, enclosed bed, and a tent always ready to go. Also this is going to sound crazy but considering there are those modular floor bits in the tent, is there any testing as far as weight limit for the bedding? Probably less of a concern with the maverick since it looks like less of the roof/floor pops out as some of the other models. Oh, does this model not have the external ladder like some of the other models?
Hey, I’m curious can you put a rack on top? I’m considering this truck but I need to use it for work too. I do Window Cleaning and I need to put an extension ladder on top or at least be able to put my stackable ladders which are 6 foot each.
Hey you definitely can. When open, the top of the tent can support 75lbs evenly distributed. If you are looking for a more commercial application I would look into our all aluminum extrusion and billet Topper with cabinets.
I'm interested in the tremor package. For a person who wants to add a little bit more camping to their lives do you think that the added cost is justified? I do primarily highway driving so the hybrid benefits don't really help me. I also don't feel like I need to tow 4,000 lbs for anything. I'm looking for that crossover commute to work and camp on the weekends kind of vehicle.
The tremor is definitely nice if your looking to push the off-roading more. The locking rear differential will help give you traction over rutted and rocky roads, and the added lift will help clear a larger tire. If you’re mostly just driving smoother fire roads though, it may not be worth the added expense.
Explaining that this rig costs as much as a new Tacoma really makes the Tacoma look like a good value, when you consider that for the cost of the camper , you've downgraded to a ford sedan
Eco boost engines are notorious for having major problems starting around 40,000 miles. Would be a cool truck if Ford started making decent engines again.
I personally wouldn't but the FX4 version of the Maverick I'd have someone add a say 2 inch lift and some taller tires. I'm assuming you could do that cheaper then Fords version and better they can. Even still this is a damn good buy!
So I can take my truck camping and sleep in a tent on the ground, or for an extra $8,000 (plus worse gas mileage and extra wear/tear on truck) sleep in a tent on top of my truck. What am I missing?
A quality topper/cap will run you at least 4k, and nothing is as nice as ours full stop. That alone is a huge part of it. So for an extra 3300 we have a full pop top camping portion with a panelized floor that’s built from burly UV stable extrusions, composite honeycomb and machined parts. It’s a lot more and a lot different than a ground tent in an open truck bed. It actually makes the maverick work better as a truck since you can haul real stuff on top of the camper. But there’s nothing wrong with a ground tent, and if that’s what your budget tells ya that’s definitely the way to go 🤝
No argument there. Do what you thinks best for you. Simplicity is what makes this a great option for some. As I age I’d prefer not to sleep on the ground unless I’m backpacking.

The Tacoma is definitely a lot more capable offroad, but if you don’t need quite that much capability the maverick has a ton of other benefits.

Hybrid definitely gets better gas mileage. I've gone a month between fills. Seeing 44 mpg frequently around town and it's so smooth and silent.
Bought a 24 Maverick to compliment my F150, that bed topper/tent is a seriously sweet set up, might have to look into getting one for my Maverick now

It'll fit in virtually any garage, its probably barely over 6' on these bigger tires.

Yes the cushion has a built in honeycomb panel that distributes weight and allows access from inside the truck bed into the sleeping bed
