    I anxiously await these videos from Golfmates every day. If they feature OMP and tips to improve my game then all the better. The thing that absolutely shocks me, and I'll never understand, is there always seems to be a few people giving these videos a thumbs down. Who are these people and what do they want or expect? Don't give them a thought, Liam. I doubt anything could please them and I feel sorry for them. Keep doing what you do.

    I have been using OMP's tips for the last year and a half...and I am 64, and disabled. I have to wear a large brace on my left leg and a sleeve type brace on my left elbow. My left leg has been bad since I injured it when I was 20 years old. When I was younger...it really didn't bother me...but now....I cannot swing very hard.
    I only play 9 holes at a time and ride in a buggy. But..since I hit fairway woods really well....I carry a 3, 5 & 7 wood and 6 iron to my wedges. I rely on my fairway woods and short game. Even with elevated greens...OMP's chipping advice works brilliantly! If I make a bogey or a double bogey...it doesn't bother me. I know there are other holes on the Front nine that I play really well...so there is no reason to get upset! My index is a 13.7..and I play to a 15 handicap on my home course and a 16 on the one closest to my home, since it is considerably more difficult.
    Sometimes, when I am feeling a little "cheeky".... I will replace my 5 wood with my MacGregor Persimmon 4 wood...which I can still hit very well! It's very easy to hit from the fairway...and I get around 155-160 yards out of it!

    OMP is the absolute embodiment of plotting your way around a golf course. As a recently returned golfer (15 years off almost), it's difficult to focus on what you can do, not what you could have done all those years ago. Tips like this will surely help peoples' handicaps to tumble. It also helps you enjoy the round more if you're decisive about how you're getting around, and can focus on only yourself. Great video as always. More OMP is what amateur golfers need!

    Great tips, use these often. As I’ve gotten older 67, due to some back issues, I knew I could not bomb anything anymore. I play “senior” golf, down the middle, down the middle, chip, maybe close enough to make par, worse case bogey, par 5s on or close in 3 same deal, par 3s usually best chance at par, can shoot anywhere from 82-88 depending on accuracy of short game. Only average 4 GIR yet can make a birdie or 2 and a handful of pars with a new hip I got 4 1/2 months ago. Playing the most consistent golf of my life. I wear the ball out before I lose it.

    • @tedzink4574
      @tedzink4574 3 года назад

      You don't mention all the close chips, one putts you're dropping, or the strong lag putting. Bombs are overrated, a great short game is the key to scoring. Great playing.

    • @johnp1040
      @johnp1040 3 года назад

      It was implied, pitch or chip to inside 4-5 feet gives you a good chance to make the par putt worse case bogey. I find if I can make the front edge of the green or just short my chance of par increases, you can lag from just off the green of chip with the OMP 8 iron.

    Always love tips from the King and try to follow them whenever possible. As a result of those tips over the last 18 months my handicap has dropped by 10. But, here in Northern Nevada, the 8 iron chip-and-run is quite tricky at times because of fast greens and fairways that can sometimes be watered and soft, sometimes dry and fast s and sometimes a mixture of the two. If I can crack that, could shave another 2 or 3 shots off. Keep the tips coming.

    Another great video! And YES! OMP's advice is absolutely spot on! One reason I regularly beat players half my age is that I play the club that'll work, not the club I think will impress my partners. While the younger players might hit a 9-iron from the fairway and inevitably come up short or slice it right, I'll take a 7-iron from the same spot and plop it right in the middle of the green. Who cares what club you hit as long as you make it to the green? Also, I learned years ago that my favorite shot is a 7-iron bump & run. I rarely use a high lofted wedge anymore. With a 7 or 8-iron, and a putting stroke, I can far more accurately place the ball on the green with a "duff & run" than I can with a fancy 60˚ flop shot. Leave the showmanship at home, although I must admit it's great fun when my ol' "duff & run" beats macho bravado on any given hole. At the end of the round, it's not whether you used a 9-iron and I used a 7-iron to approach the green, but who has the lower score.

    OMP,
    I may be one who tries to push himself to hard sometimes as you say, and I have finally come to grips with the fact that I am 66 years old now and underwent 2 hip replacements over the ladt 18 months and I just cant hit it quite like I vould even 8 or 10 years ago so I have adopted many of the nuggets you have explained in this video... the results are ( even moved up one tee box) that my handicap is back down to 5 to6 and my enjoyment level has increased two fold. The only thing people should also adopt is to plsy from Tee Boxes that are comensurate with their skill level. I have come to the conclusion ( and hope you lads agree) that the proper Tees for anyone to play from for maximum enjoyment can be determined by playing from the Tees on your courses longest par 4 hole that you can consistently drive your Tee shot to the 150 yard marker and thus play those same tees (be it red, yellow, white, blue, gold or black) for your entire round and if you can consistently shoot lower than your handicapthen move back one tee and see if that puts you closer to shooting your handicap goal score.
    Thank you Lads for all your wonderful videos and your love for the game!

    Love OMP! I started watching golf mates April of this year and it really did change my game. I was never a long hitter and some of the people I've played against are able to fire their hips so fast and so strongly the ball goes flying. I kept wanting to be like that until April after watching OMP! I decided that tempo and accuracy are miles more important. Don't get me wrong, of course, I want to hit it far but I'm okay with not being a long hitter but being able to win by accuracy ;). At 24, some of my peers look at my swing and wonder why I swing slower whereas older people constantly give me compliments on my swing. It's not flashy, get's an average amount of distance, but it's also a swing I'll be able to do when I'm old as well.

    I like to consider every hole a par 5 (18x5=90) I feel it take a lot of stress off most holes and think its far easier to par a par 5 than a par 3 but if you play the shorter holes well you can break 90 comfortably (my best 86)

    Great to see the legend O.M.P. back again, such a fountain of wisdom and knowledge. Mr Barlow has a hole named after him, (the rock). O.M.P. should have a course named after him, sort it Liam. Best to you all.

    All great information,not trying to compete with the big hitters especially. We’ve all done this I’m sure,30-40 behind them on the fairway is much more enjoyable than looking in the trees from a forced wayward drive

    Have to say he's shaved a few strokes off my scores this year, thanks to both.
    BTW I think Mr Gavins needs his #1 looper back
