Did my first SwingTweak, referencing my flat backswing. Pro said my swing is good, don't change it, here are these pros who have a flat backswing and they're fine. I'm an 11.5 hcp right now, and he said biggest difference going form 13 to 3 is short game. So basically I can now stop second guessing my swing and work on my chipping and putting.
Echo the advice to practice short game which is overlooked by so many players. I'm frequently breaking 80 now primarily as I'm spending at least an hour a week on the chipping and putting green, the results of which are saving me between 5-7 shots a round on average.
Matt - I'm a cancer survivor. Your advice to people to enjoy life is spot on. We are all terminally ill from birth; it's a one way journey. Keep positive, and live life one day at a time.
Matt is literally a golf savant. I have been watching his videos for 2-3 years now and have gone from a low 100s/high 90s player, to a low 80s PLAYA. It's all mental and knowing your game. Thanks Playa-In-Chief
OMG!! Can you PLEASE write a book about golf! Golf sidekick is my 'golf sensei'.. so much wisdom about course management and the mental side of golf for amateur golfers, sprinkled with little nuggets of good golfer philosophical gems... LOVE IT!
This was your best offering. You perspective at 6:00 brought me to tears. Your explanation of the “glimpse” at 15:00 was the pure truth. Sometimes we just punish ourselves out there. I don’t know what shizer you have been through but you are a totally different dude than you were two years ago bashing around that Srixon 2i from Kentucky. I’m with you brother.
Yes!!! Sometimes there’s this mindset that we aren’t supposed to be that good. I love those moments when I park or birdie a hole. It’s not luck! I have the skill to play this game.
Watching these videos has changed my mentality towards the game. Salvaging scores through smarter decision making. This is stuff all new players should be taught.
I watched this entire video, waiting for the audio or video to be cut off at some point. I had to wait until the VERY END, but you didn't disappoint! The Way Of Video Editing from the author of The Way Of The Playa, is legendary! 📹🤣
Last week I shot 85 on a strange course due to your videos (my course handicap was 16). Before playing, I analyzed the course and figured out that there were too many bunkers. So I forced myself to tee off half of the time with my 4-Hybrid, it was 50 yards shorter than the driver, but I got the balls in play all the time. The course gave me 1 birdie, and many pars, especially on Hole 18, par 5 - 510 yards, stroke index 6, I hit 3 4-hybrid shots continuously, the last one ended up 7 yards from the hole and I 2 put for Par. This is easily the best game I have ever played. Thank you for your lessons.
Saturday shot 89 with 3 lost balls. Today played Playa golf, hit 5 wood when I didn’t need driver. Got it on the green rather then trying to be perfect. Smiled about the bad ones. Easy 78! Baus you have made golf FUN!
Really helpful. I'm the new-to-golf guy with my golf-playing friends. I'm very conscious about taking too much time and trying to look like I know what I'm doing. You are giving me more confidence to play my game, not theirs.
I have just got home after an evening round in drizzly Norfolk UK... But I feel like it's been a blazing balmy evening as I have broken... No... smashed 80 for the first time with a 77... And you know what... It was easy, because of this dude. Thank you, thank you thank you playa 🙏
Thank you for all the course management tips. This has been the breaking year for me. After being a 23 handicap for 20yrs with the occasion 80's round, I've been able to drop down to a 13 handicap in 2023. Yesterday, I had my first Par 5 Eagle, and today I shot my lowest score of 79. It would've been better, had I known pin placement location. I ended up lined up straight for water resulting in a double bogey (new course). I'm sure the "C" player will return, but enjoyed living in the moment of my "A" Player. Your content is FANTASTIC. I've tried pushing my 25+ Handicap friends to watch your videos, but they are still stuck in their " Copy Past, Ego-hero shot phases". They are actually trying to kick me out of their playing group. Keep up the great content. If you're ever in AZ again play Ocotillo!
Used swing tweaks for the first time earlier this week! It is amazing i’ve had in person lessons before for upwards of $100-$200 and got almost as much advice from just one tweak! Could not be happier, it’s a great system.
thank you for all the content, its been great. i've tried to reduce the risks for few rounds and today scored split to my personal best 83 after a rough summer where i couldnt break 90😁👌
The first first video I saw I was confused about why Bill Murray was teaching golf… then I realized how awesome this advice was. I’m playing way better and having more fun doing it. When I make a bad shot now I have you in my head saying, “no worries, you’re not a pro. But look, you’re out here playing golf right now. How great is that!?”
I really enjoyed seeing you go iron off the tee every single time. I really want to just bag my driver, because i’m super consistent with irons and short game. Playing a scramble with 3 dudes who like to bomb everything, it’s super anti-climactic but I think it’s truly the key to winning. Shooting low is just safe and executed game plans.
Did not have my “A” game the other day. Still shot 87 on a 139 rated course. Could have easily shot in the 90’s had a not realized I wasn’t playing my best and started to play smart.
Matt you’re the best golf content creator… no bullshit fluff or over the top technical hoops to jump through. I’m gonna try out swingtweaks because I cannot figure out my push slice/slice. Wish me luck.
Matt, I just shot an 84. First time breaking 90 all season. In fact I logged a couple 100+ rounds this year. First time in 10 years, not hitting a single OB, hazard, water! BEHOLD. THE WAY OF THE PLAYA!
I played today and tried the toe 9 iron bump and run in a previous video and i couldn't believe the solid connections i was getting every time, such a simple change, such a difference, thanks
Love your mental and thought process. It’s helped me improve like crazy as someone who was a mid 90/anywhere over 100 on a bad day to someone who’s able to score more frequently and currently on the hunt to break 80 (long road ahead but the progress is what makes it fun). I’m a former baseball player and really loved to get after it but with the more easy minded approach and letting the club do the work, I’ve improved tremendously
Love your stuff Matt. Its easy to get overloaded with swing advice and quick fixes on youtube. Your advice is always spot on and such fun to watch. Cheers mate
You are so right Matt about enjoying this wicked game , I’m a single digit player who doesn’t take the game to seriously, I enjoy the company of my playing partners , I don’t get upset over a bad shot and I don’t make excuses, I play my game and not worry about having the latest driver or tour level balls , just make the most of the time you have ! stunning course by the way! 👍
As usual, informative and helpful. No swing ideas just real course management. I have learnt to think my way round a course in an effort to improve my scoring as it seems a quicker way than constantly changing things in my swing, etc. It really does work. I retired 2 years ago and am playing the best golf of my life and enjoying every moment out there. Knowing that my colleagues are sitting in an office, looking out the window and wishing they were golfing is enough to make me realise how fortunate I am to get to play all the time. I have had my 'hot streak' moments and I do know they aren't one-offs. I took forever to finally break 80 and now 80 is a poor round for me. Keep on reinforcing this way of playing Matt and I hope that your 1 Iron doesn't let you down in Scotland. Think your putting skills will be severely tested on some of these giant, quick, undulating greens.
Matt I’ve taken your advice & have a great golf pro who has been exactly what my game needed. Combined with your course rules I’ve broken 90 after years of being a 100+ golfer. I even recently was 2 strokes from breaking 80. Thank you for showing me the “Way of the Playa”
I just started golfing a couple months ago, I got a lesson and with some practice on my own I can drive like 220 which is good for me. Irons is a different story though I struggle with them.
Love your channel. Makes me want to grab my clubs! I had an 11 hole glimpse on a match play game yesterday. Was even par! It was easy breezy as well no risks. Just WOTP. Fairway pitch putt. I know it won’t always be that way but it felt good! Thanks for sharing all your wisdom Matt 🙌🏻
I hit a lot of good shots in my last round, but the one I'm most proud of was on a short par 4 (not reachable) where I took into account that my primary miss could result in an OB shot, took a 6 iron off the tee knowing I couldn't reach trouble with the overdraw miss. Sure enough, terrible shot and the ball ended up sitting pretty in the fairway. I was beaming with pride in my club selection and self awareness.
Loving the content Matt. I'm working on my mindset with your help. Getting very close to breaking 90, but back nine is not quite there yet. I'm planting plenty of feathers too. 🤞🤞
@@JustWiseman I play at a 9 hole course and I play more often than not 9 holes in a round and not the full 18. Best 9 hole score is 43, but not shot under 90 when playing the full 18. It'll come playa! 👍
I enjoyed this video Matt, as a higher handicap player it will help me better manage my misses once again. Just for the record, you belted that putt through the break when you spoke about the greens and the grass that had grown into them, hence why I didn't agree when you called it a good putt. Solid playing though, keep it up!
It was a solid putt with a good roll on the ball from the center of the face on the intended line. The reason i hit it firmer was the invasive grass which is much slower than the Bermuda grass. That was one of the best putts i hit all day just picked the wrong line.
A tip my friend told me that changed the way I play around the greens: stop trying to get up and down. Instead, get up and down down (up and 2 putt). This is better because it takes the pressure off the shot, it’s fun to say “up and down down”, and if you aim for the up and down down, then most of the time you will make up and down which is better than the standards.
I also took that advice. Got a lesson for my slice. As a left handed he figured out my issue in 5 swings. My grip was weak. I can’t tell u how many bad habits I picked up from you tube.
I don't disagree that lessons can make a huge difference....especially if you are a complete beginner. I do think it's also possible to learn the game on your own however, it sort of depends on your expectations, goals and level of discipline when it comes to training and learning. To be fair I am retired and I love practicing...almost as much as golf itself and have a nice training facility at home which helps. Most importantly though, I practice with a purpose using Deliberate Training techniques not just hitting balls at the range like you mentioned. By using Deliberate Practice techniques it helps to ensure I am improving and training my body and mind to create a repeatable swing. Also having some good training aids like a divot board, impact tape and high speed camera to evaluate results helps as well. It can be done and I am shooting some of the best golf in my life at 67. Even after completely changing my swing last summer and moving to Stack & Tilt. I do enjoy your approach to the game though and have learned a bit since subscribing to your channel. I especially enjoy how you relate golf to life and being mindful....something I totally relate too. Good stuff sir.
I’ve committed lately to do 3 wood in for 360 yards. It’s the scoring mentality to do. Not to just hit as far as possible since I know I can knock in 100-110 within 10 feet reliably. I don’t trust my 60° enough to make it as close within 50 yards since it’s all feel for where I am at in my game. My next step is working on using my 52° to hit a 50-80 yard shot as well since maxing out my 60° is much greater risk esp with a dirt lie (sweeping under the ball in close range is maddening)
@GolfSidekick Matt what do you use for your shot tracked for your videos? Also curious how you have the distances for every shot - do you have to make note of every distance throughout the round?
Howsit Cuzi. Your videos are great, the way of the playa is the only truth! #TWTP Been enjoying the 3x6's approach, really does help to smooth out the first couple of misses in a round, lots of time for birdies. What shaft is in that 6 iron, it looked slightly different from normal steel shafts, is it just brushed steel or an MMT / steelfiber-type composite shaft?
Where are you playing when you come to Scotland? If you're playing links you definitely need to get down to Machrihanish and play the Dunes and Machrihanish Old course, absolutely fantastic courses

Hey Matt, I'm new to golf, started only around beginning of this year. What's the best way to get better? Or what practise do you recommend if the driving range isn't the best option. Cheers mate.
Get a coach quickly playa If I could live my life over again from when I was 12-13 years old playing this game, I would have a coach show me fundamentals. After you can hit the ball with good fundamentals, you will be able to learn very very very quickly. Play on the course as often as you can
Playa, i watched it all but you are in near excellent conditions, exceptioneel for Schotland maybe. But i am in the Netherlands and here it is raining a lot and the soil / graass is wet and soggy, just like.. Even so that the ball is going into the turf instead of near-up. Any tips?
I respect all your videos you have out out but still have issues. I average on a 6300yrd course around 114. It's Mt 100yrd to 40 yrd chip game that kills me. But I have heard you work wonders with people. Would love to get some input from ya.
Great video playa. I usually hit my irons badly with chunks, slices and fats all day but recently I’ve played some rounds where I will nail irons 5-7 off the deck and then halfway through the round I start to think “wow I’m hitting the ball so good today what have I been doing to make that happen?” Then I forget how to swing and it’s back to barely being able to hit the ball off the deck. It’s annoying because I when I hit it great like the 150m+ 5 iron off the deck last week that got air born with a little draw or when I fat it I don’t feel any difference in my swing so that question enters my mind.

Been enjoying the 3x6's approach, really does help to smooth out the first couple of misses in a round, lots of time for birdies.
What shaft is in that 6 iron, it looked slightly different from normal steel shafts, is it just brushed steel or an MMT / steelfiber-type composite shaft?
Brilliant
I like having blisters on my thumbs, thank you very much.
06:11 "no one's pregnant " pheeeeew!! 😂😂😂
You should try playing here in the Philippines
Haven't noticed you hit a GW in a while. Assuming you're playing 48 PW and 56 SW. Have you added or changed the top of the bag instead?
Does anyone know what course Matt is playing.

Where are you playing when you come to Scotland? If you're playing links you definitely need to get down to Machrihanish and play the Dunes and Machrihanish Old course, absolutely fantastic courses
I’m in Scotland playa
@GolfSidekick what courses do you have lined up? I hope the weather stays favorable for you, its a tad damp on the west coast right now 😅
@@ArranD1 everything in st andrews area, carnoustie, panmure, monifieth, cruden, trump 1 trump 2, royal aberdeen, elie, crail, dumbarnie, kingsbarns so many
@GolfSidekick sounds incredible man, hope you have a fantastic time and plant plenty of feathers
Hey Matt, I'm new to golf, started only around beginning of this year. What's the best way to get better? Or what practise do you recommend if the driving range isn't the best option. Cheers mate.
Get a coach quickly playa
If I could live my life over again from when I was 12-13 years old playing this game, I would have a coach show me fundamentals.
After you can hit the ball with good fundamentals, you will be able to learn very very very quickly. Play on the course as often as you can
Dope shirt 🤙
Please tell me that you are wearing the WaddaMellon polo!
Playa, i watched it all but you are in near excellent conditions, exceptioneel for Schotland maybe. But i am in the Netherlands and here it is raining a lot and the soil / graass is wet and soggy, just like.. Even so that the ball is going into the turf instead of near-up. Any tips?
yes sir. move
The Way of the Playa - hit a 262 yard 1-iron off the first tee to the center of the FW!! 😜🤪
hard fairway
hey matt, you never linked video on lining up ball
Sorry I’ll add it in a bit

"That was pretty crap"...laughter...(translation= whaddyagonnado?) Love it...
I respect all your videos you have out out but still have issues. I average on a 6300yrd course around 114. It's Mt 100yrd to 40 yrd chip game that kills me. But I have heard you work wonders with people. Would love to get some input from ya.
You answered your own concern. Work on that wedge game. Get a coach to help you with area.
It’s annoying because I when I hit it great like the 150m+ 5 iron off the deck last week that got air born with a little draw or when I fat it I don’t feel any difference in my swing so that question enters my mind.
when it comes, let it flow over you, think about nothing except that special bal flight you look forward to seeing
Play your game, not somebody else's!!!❤
