Did my first SwingTweak, referencing my flat backswing. Pro said my swing is good, don't change it, here are these pros who have a flat backswing and they're fine. I'm an 11.5 hcp right now, and he said biggest difference going form 13 to 3 is short game. So basically I can now stop second guessing my swing and work on my chipping and putting.

Echo the advice to practice short game which is overlooked by so many players. I'm frequently breaking 80 now primarily as I'm spending at least an hour a week on the chipping and putting green, the results of which are saving me between 5-7 shots a round on average.

Last week I shot 85 on a strange course due to your videos (my course handicap was 16). Before playing, I analyzed the course and figured out that there were too many bunkers. So I forced myself to tee off half of the time with my 4-Hybrid, it was 50 yards shorter than the driver, but I got the balls in play all the time. The course gave me 1 birdie, and many pars, especially on Hole 18, par 5 - 510 yards, stroke index 6, I hit 3 4-hybrid shots continuously, the last one ended up 7 yards from the hole and I 2 put for Par. This is easily the best game I have ever played. Thank you for your lessons.

Thank you for all the course management tips. This has been the breaking year for me. After being a 23 handicap for 20yrs with the occasion 80's round, I've been able to drop down to a 13 handicap in 2023. Yesterday, I had my first Par 5 Eagle, and today I shot my lowest score of 79. It would've been better, had I known pin placement location. I ended up lined up straight for water resulting in a double bogey (new course). I'm sure the "C" player will return, but enjoyed living in the moment of my "A" Player. Your content is FANTASTIC. I've tried pushing my 25+ Handicap friends to watch your videos, but they are still stuck in their " Copy Past, Ego-hero shot phases". They are actually trying to kick me out of their playing group. Keep up the great content. If you're ever in AZ again play Ocotillo!

As usual, informative and helpful. No swing ideas just real course management. I have learnt to think my way round a course in an effort to improve my scoring as it seems a quicker way than constantly changing things in my swing, etc. It really does work. I retired 2 years ago and am playing the best golf of my life and enjoying every moment out there. Knowing that my colleagues are sitting in an office, looking out the window and wishing they were golfing is enough to make me realise how fortunate I am to get to play all the time. I have had my 'hot streak' moments and I do know they aren't one-offs. I took forever to finally break 80 and now 80 is a poor round for me. Keep on reinforcing this way of playing Matt and I hope that your 1 Iron doesn't let you down in Scotland. Think your putting skills will be severely tested on some of these giant, quick, undulating greens.

I hit a lot of good shots in my last round, but the one I'm most proud of was on a short par 4 (not reachable) where I took into account that my primary miss could result in an OB shot, took a 6 iron off the tee knowing I couldn't reach trouble with the overdraw miss. Sure enough, terrible shot and the ball ended up sitting pretty in the fairway. I was beaming with pride in my club selection and self awareness.

It was a solid putt with a good roll on the ball from the center of the face on the intended line. The reason i hit it firmer was the invasive grass which is much slower than the Bermuda grass. That was one of the best putts i hit all day just picked the wrong line.

A tip my friend told me that changed the way I play around the greens: stop trying to get up and down. Instead, get up and down down (up and 2 putt). This is better because it takes the pressure off the shot, it’s fun to say “up and down down”, and if you aim for the up and down down, then most of the time you will make up and down which is better than the standards.

I don't disagree that lessons can make a huge difference....especially if you are a complete beginner. I do think it's also possible to learn the game on your own however, it sort of depends on your expectations, goals and level of discipline when it comes to training and learning. To be fair I am retired and I love practicing...almost as much as golf itself and have a nice training facility at home which helps. Most importantly though, I practice with a purpose using Deliberate Training techniques not just hitting balls at the range like you mentioned. By using Deliberate Practice techniques it helps to ensure I am improving and training my body and mind to create a repeatable swing. Also having some good training aids like a divot board, impact tape and high speed camera to evaluate results helps as well. It can be done and I am shooting some of the best golf in my life at 67. Even after completely changing my swing last summer and moving to Stack & Tilt.
I do enjoy your approach to the game though and have learned a bit since subscribing to your channel. I especially enjoy how you relate golf to life and being mindful....something I totally relate too. Good stuff sir.

I’ve committed lately to do 3 wood in for 360 yards. It’s the scoring mentality to do. Not to just hit as far as possible since I know I can knock in 100-110 within 10 feet reliably. I don’t trust my 60° enough to make it as close within 50 yards since it’s all feel for where I am at in my game.
My next step is working on using my 52° to hit a 50-80 yard shot as well since maxing out my 60° is much greater risk esp with a dirt lie (sweeping under the ball in close range is maddening)

If I could live my life over again from when I was 12-13 years old playing this game, I would have a coach show me fundamentals.
After you can hit the ball with good fundamentals, you will be able to learn very very very quickly. Play on the course as often as you can

Where are you playing when you come to Scotland? If you're playing links you definitely need to get down to Machrihanish and play the Dunes and Machrihanish Old course, absolutely fantastic courses

Great video playa. I usually hit my irons badly with chunks, slices and fats all day but recently I’ve played some rounds where I will nail irons 5-7 off the deck and then halfway through the round I start to think “wow I’m hitting the ball so good today what have I been doing to make that happen?” Then I forget how to swing and it’s back to barely being able to hit the ball off the deck. It’s annoying because I when I hit it great like the 150m+ 5 iron off the deck last week that got air born with a little draw or when I fat it I don’t feel any difference in my swing so that question enters my mind.

I respect all your videos you have out out but still have issues. I average on a 6300yrd course around 114. It's Mt 100yrd to 40 yrd chip game that kills me. But I have heard you work wonders with people. Would love to get some input from ya.

You answered your own concern. Work on that wedge game. Get a coach to help you with area.

Playa, i watched it all but you are in near excellent conditions, exceptioneel for Schotland maybe. But i am in the Netherlands and here it is raining a lot and the soil / graass is wet and soggy, just like.. Even so that the ball is going into the turf instead of near-up. Any tips?

As he says, if you're trying to play 90, you're around an 18 hcp, so you get 1 stroke per hole for YOUR par, to shoot to your hcp. That simple approach means you can stop shooting for greens in reg that you can't actually do very often. Hardly any occasional players I used to play with, ever got this. The course par is what pros are expected to shoot. On a bad day.
