If you play them enough, they can end up having elements which weren't taken into consideration when designing them. You can overoptimise these champs so much, some counterpicks end up being easy matchups, the champ's weaknesses are diminished, basically they end up being unbalancable unless you change their kits directly
I'd rather league be balanced around the best players, punishing players for being bad and pushing them to improve, than the worst, punishing players for being too good. That aside. I play Gwen on occasion in emerald euw, I'm only mastery level 9 on her and even though I don't even bother to space her w most of the time, I don't think she feels weak, so I wouldn't say she's super high skill, all you need to do is understand that you can combine q+e.

I feel like talon is the worst one, having to auto after 3 abilities is such 2014 league lool which is great bit we know the game doesnt revolve around that. Yea talon can jump walls and on paper feels broken but thats a reason why we dont see him on diamond+ at all. IT DOESNT MATTER, kayn is actually a broken one but talon feels like kayn but slower, no heal, no vision gain, and less movement, the jump will always be...well...a jump but kayn can go wherever it pleases and with high move speed but talon has to land on a designed place

As a Gwen jungle main, I think she’s in the perfect spot. She’s a hidden op, people just don’t know how to play her. Just focus farm and get 2-3 items and you can take almost anyone on. She’s super fun to play once mastered and really rewarding. People don’t realize that she’s like an ap yi and you need to farm and get her items. But once you do you’re a manace in the rift with one of the fastest objective take speeds. She can clear all 3 grubs fast, takes towers, dragons. She just needs to farm and not play dumb early
Assassins don't have a stage of the game where they are good. They get outscaled by other classes so they need to snowball but they also lack the snowball capability to do so because they get hard-bullied by most mid laners. The desynced wave-timers also means that even if you do get priority which you shouldn't then you still risk and lose too much by roaming all the way to bot or top unless you're Talon . That's why the only good assassins are the ones who scale well like Naafiri, Qiyana, etc.
What do you mean? you have from the dirk spike you get at 650 gold, until everyone else has over 4000 gold in items where you are the defacto strongest person on the map?
i think this is also why khazix and evelynn have been more persistent than other assassins since the durability patch. They're scaling assassins. they're designed to be weak (for an assassin) early game and spike in the midgame so they get to bypass the early game struggles of other assassins. if they get an early lead they snowball hard, but they aren't completely reliant on finding tiny windows for those leads like the rest. they can get there by farming and playing opportunistically.
Gwen should have had armour, magic res and tenacity on the W to begin with. It would have been a significantly more fair design and would have matched the theme better.
Yeah honestly her W feels like it's more designed as a tool to dodge spells and then engage similar to yone yasuo basically any mid lane assassin but her playstyle and kit is more around tank busting. Her W is nice as a bruiser in a big teamfight but it seems almost unnecessary. Like genuinely how often are Gwen players dodging meaningful spells with W in lane? Most ranged top lane spells are often just poke and short cds but Gwen W is like 20 seconds long so the trade just doesn't make sense to me.
His point on Gwen’s appeal not matching well with the expectation of those who want to play her is so true. I have a friend who wants to get really good with Gwen as she loves her design. Problem is, my friend does not have the best mechanics at all and thus face plants a lot when trying to play Gwen.
9:50 It's not quite a triangle come late game because tanks don't really build damage and many of them don't scale well enough with offensive stats to justify ever building them. But tanky champions, that is, including divers, juggernauts, and the like absolutely do wreck assassins in the late game or at least they're supposed to (and often do).
Riftmaker is really just a terrible item right now. Like I don’t even build it on her anymore. Nashors - Shadowflame/DCap (gold dependent) - Crypt/Void - Situational Item. If Riftmaker allowed for sustain on minions again, then it would be viable.
Assassin items aren’t the problem, the Assassin’s scalings are. Its clear this is the case bc you see Bruiser’s like Kled and Attrox go full Lethality and they can 1 v 9 in the right hands. assassins lose bc + seryldas + eclipse as a lethality item + eclipse mythic passive + adc damage buffs allowing them to go full sustain/mitigation and just outdamaging you + first strike nerfs + burst rune nerfs in late szn13 + exp buffs in the botlane + nerfed roam timers, all of this to say snowballing on assassins especially AD assassins is dead. No matter if you are 7/3 as an assassin and a toplane juggernaut is pushing a tower then you just straight up cant contest because the only anti "tank" item available to an assassin early on is eclipse (A FIGHTER ITEM) and in late game bruisers are allowed to build so much armor and hp that once you hit seryldas grudge they will just tank it and kill you anyway despite your item advantage, the meta right now anyway in the toplane is all juggernauts that are designed to just walk at you and win and so this kind of makes it so that the only prey you actually have are mages and supports. This is because an adc that is moderately fed with barrier can still win even if you catch them out unless you are a sustained damage champion like khazix, as an example of this look at what talon actually plays right now which is conqueror regardless of build and even though this comes up pretty often for talon especially, he is really only playable as a mobile bruiser right now with how much higher his wr is as compared to electrocute even after the early buffs. **As a side note what ever happened to the first blood king???? The only high tier assassins in midlane are leblanc (a mage that can play assassin that got ridiculously overbuffed in early), fizz (if you play him you are trolling), qiyana (one of the most onetricked champions in the game) at barely 12/the 50ish champions that have a decent playercount, and then naafiri which is a counterpick/noobstomper champion and if you go up to master+ fizz disappears and the rest of them drop a little while talon raises due to high elo onetrick population and low elo people trying out the new change and dropping the winrate. AP assassins? dead in the water for high elo. Burst mages? annie lux syndra and even ori are all in the bottom half and why play syndra and ori when hwei exists and doesnt get meaningfully nerfed out of S+ tier (even getting free new items) this entire season, burst is just so ridiculously dogshit why play it

Gwen player and it's most definitely an item thing if anything but I really dislike the "when she's mastered she has high wr". Watching some Gwen otps you really see how bad you are at the champion but of course those people have over 3 million mastery points of course you are going to climb. I don't know if Gwen changes are needed since I more want to see how they change the game since there's going to be a shift in balance after they nerf ADCs and I hope damage in general. After they made riftmaker really bad and removing hp from ap items she feels weird being insanely tanky in W cause of all the new ap buffs on items and insanely squishy without it or omnivamp from riftmaker. Definitely wish for dedicated ap bruiser items it would really help Morde, Gwen, Sylas and future champions feel and play much better, something like an ap black cleaver, Steraks or something and have it have more hp and ability haste and nerfed for ranged so assassins and mages aren't abusing them
problem with all AP bruiser is nothing stops a feed syndra from buying it and never dyeing and one shooting u with no ability to punish the "wrong" item she gets this problem is so massive for this issue

Why do you dislike the "when she's mastered she has high wr". Many champs are balanced around that, like Nidalee, Lee Sin, Azir, Ksante etc... We see Ksante having a completely shit wr in solo queue for a long time, but still an absolute menace in pro play, because of how hard he is to play. They can't just buff him, and Gwen has similar issues.

Burst has to be counter balanced by sustain, if there is no sustain whatsoever, “bursting” is just quick dmg and it’s either superior to all other dmg form or just useless when the total dmg is lower In combat sustain needs to be more present and either stronger at low health or healing reduction needs to be weaker

Literally, against Renekton who as of my knowledge is her best counter, she has a positive winrate in masters + In challenger, its 53%, though thats a low sample size. There are some champs who just stop having weaknesses after a certain level of experience on them. And what happens afterwards is what August says in the video too, you just can't buff the champ or else high elo players will boost their winrate into oblivion
Nemesis is a good player, but he complains about literally every meta all the time. Sometimes his criticisms are valid, but as long as the meta doesn't align with his very specific personal preferences he'll always have something else to be critical of. He's just one of millions of players so expecting Riot to buff and nerf things he doesn't like by spamming the balance team is kind of delusional. He might not like ADC mid meta, but that doesn't mean other people don't. It's something new and interesting to explore after many years of just two control mages just farming for 30 minutes. Do people really want to see more Azir vs Oriana instead?
Azir ori is like 10x better experience laning and watching than trist corki is so yes absolutely. Also means you get AD jgls that play the game, which is so much better than brand zyra perma fullclear.

Lethality item suite is okay but extremely lopsided into a very small number of items to actually get high dmg. Profane/Opportunity/Serylda are their highest dmg but Youmuu is necessary on some AD Assassins too (and possibly the actual strongest Lethality item)

The thing is, assassins arent even weak. They are weak in comparison to the horseshit they've been pulling before this season, yes. But thats because they used to be able to miss half their kit and STILL kill a squishy. Versus now, where you actually need to hit all of your abilities for that zero counterplay kill, which is how it should be. If you cant land your abilities, you shouldn't be rewarded with a kill anyways. In what world do tanks counter assassins the same way? That's not at all comparable. An assassin more ignores a tank, ADCs can't just ignore Zed ult from fog of war. This guy lets his personal bias cloud his judgement.

Gwen player and it's most definitely an item thing if anything but I really dislike the "when she's mastered she has high wr".
Watching some Gwen otps you really see how bad you are at the champion but of course those people have over 3 million mastery points of course you are going to climb.
I don't know if Gwen changes are needed since I more want to see how they change the game since there's going to be a shift in balance after they nerf ADCs and I hope damage in general.
After they made riftmaker really bad and removing hp from ap items she feels weird being insanely tanky in W cause of all the new ap buffs on items and insanely squishy without it or omnivamp from riftmaker.
Definitely wish for dedicated ap bruiser items it would really help Morde, Gwen, Sylas and future champions feel and play much better, something like an ap black cleaver, Steraks or something and have it have more hp and ability haste and nerfed for ranged so assassins and mages aren't abusing them
problem with all AP bruiser is nothing stops a feed syndra from buying it and never dyeing and one shooting u with no ability to punish the "wrong" item she gets this problem is so massive for this issue

@@darkumineru1681 literally just make an ap item that either only works for melee or have reduced effectiveness. Most AP bruisers like to build similar stats so having that wouldnt make it much of an issue
Why do you dislike the "when she's mastered she has high wr". Many champs are balanced around that, like Nidalee, Lee Sin, Azir, Ksante etc...
We see Ksante having a completely shit wr in solo queue for a long time, but still an absolute menace in pro play, because of how hard he is to play. They can't just buff him, and Gwen has similar issues.

The problem here is just "fed champion can afford more defensive items while still having more than enough damage to kill you", which just is generally true for all champions in the game. Gwen needs an item buff, her laning phase is fine her biggest probleme is that she doesn't heal like she used to be if anything buff her passive healing or bring back omnivamp to rift

Burst has to be counter balanced by sustain, if there is no sustain whatsoever, “bursting” is just quick dmg and it’s either superior to all other dmg form or just useless when the total dmg is lower
In combat sustain needs to be more present and either stronger at low health or healing reduction needs to be weaker

In challenger, its 53%, though thats a low sample size. There are some champs who just stop having weaknesses after a certain level of experience on them.
And what happens afterwards is what August says in the video too, you just can't buff the champ or else high elo players will boost their winrate into oblivion

Nemesis is a good player, but he complains about literally every meta all the time. Sometimes his criticisms are valid, but as long as the meta doesn't align with his very specific personal preferences he'll always have something else to be critical of. He's just one of millions of players so expecting Riot to buff and nerf things he doesn't like by spamming the balance team is kind of delusional. He might not like ADC mid meta, but that doesn't mean other people don't. It's something new and interesting to explore after many years of just two control mages just farming for 30 minutes. Do people really want to see more Azir vs Oriana instead?
Azir ori is like 10x better experience laning and watching than trist corki is so yes absolutely. Also means you get AD jgls that play the game, which is so much better than brand zyra perma fullclear.

It's low interaction, low team play, low skill expression, low uniqueness, and it also reinforces a terrible jgl meta. If ANYONES opinion of how mid lane "should" be, is a state where people just fleet absorb life on every wave and rush defensive boots to just sit in lane all game and push for plates. It's literally just fucking ranged trundle it's boring as shit and takes no skill. To think this meta is good or healthy I genuinely have to question what you even value in gameplay because the ADC mid meta is the antithesis of everything interesting in midlane/league of legends in general. If people want mid lane to just be 2 550 range trundles going at it, then oh well.

AD assassins are really weak and i think cuz of lethality item not sure but they are weak and i still play them why? cuz i have to play them cuz i assassin main what can i do when a tank champ with full tank item oneshot me and i cant oneshot the adcarry with one lvl down and one less item cuz he just buy a ninja tabi
Lethality item suite is okay but extremely lopsided into a very small number of items to actually get high dmg. Profane/Opportunity/Serylda are their highest dmg but Youmuu is necessary on some AD Assassins too (and possibly the actual strongest Lethality item)

Assasins arent too weak; bruisers and tanks are just way too strong.
The thing is, assassins arent even weak. They are weak in comparison to the horseshit they've been pulling before this season, yes. But thats because they used to be able to miss half their kit and STILL kill a squishy. Versus now, where you actually need to hit all of your abilities for that zero counterplay kill, which is how it should be. If you cant land your abilities, you shouldn't be rewarded with a kill anyways.
Even as a shadow assassin kayn player, the ONLY time im ever struggling to kill the targets my class is suppose to kill is if i miss my w or either portion of my q, and kayn is FAR from the highest damage assassin in the game, wouldnt even put him top 5.
Idk about that, last week I played Malza into LeBlanc (with barrier), and she still managed to kill me from half HP without landing her E. Maybe it was because of ignite, anyway it was a bit baffling
"Miss half his kit and still kill" reminds me of getting ulted by Morde, same lvl, same number of items, miss like 3 Qs and his E and still get oneshot by the 4th Q, the first that actually hits (obviously with W and AAs).

As a Gwen jungle main, I think she’s in the perfect spot. She’s a hidden op, people just don’t know how to play her. Just focus farm and get 2-3 items and you can take almost anyone on. She’s super fun to play once mastered and really rewarding. People don’t realize that she’s like an ap yi and you need to farm and get her items. But once you do you’re a manace in the rift with one of the fastest objective take speeds. She can clear all 3 grubs fast, takes towers, dragons. She just needs to farm and not play dumb early
