His music and all his bandmates are the best! We brought our children up on this. Deja Vu album cover is still on our couch when my husband was in the Navy in 1972. We lived in Alameda, California
Amazing talent. One of the best ever. So sad that life goes by so fast. Most of us don't have this kind of talent. Just amazing. Their songs oftentimes brings tears to my eyes, especially, "Teach Your Children."
We’ve been married for 53 years. This is what my husband was playing the first time we met. It was love at first sight for me. And this has always been our song. Our children cry when they hear it. This was brilliant! Thank you. ❤️
So wonderful to have the same feelings ! I'm 65 years old, I'm black, I'm a man, I'm African from West Africa.....and I'm crying....😢😢😢😢 This song is magic !
70 years of age. Stephen Stills IS the man. Great to see some of them back in concert. But... Stills is head and shoulders a super talent. That's all I have to say.
My scatterbrained older sister forgot my 14th birthday back in '71 and rushed around for something to give me. I was not impressed to receive a battered cassette tape, without case, wrapped up in tissue paper, which I'd not heard of: Deja Vu...and then I played it. The best music I've ever listened to, and which I still listen to to this day, along with all the solo material.
I'm now 64 years old and I have a cup that my sister Clarice gave me the first time I had surgery with flowers in it. I have had too many surgeries to count. I feel like I been to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 😊 but I am still going. 😊
As a little kid growing up in the 60’s . Memories of the tragedy of Vietnam on the tv news each night. Death and sadness. But the beautiful music of that period. When I hear this I’m transferred back in time . Laying in my bed at night. Listening to music like this on my crystal set. So beautiful and a safe and magical place to hide from scenes on the tv which remain in my memory to this day. Thank you music makers of that period 🙏
I'm crying, too. Crying and smiling and dancing some, too. Hope is a little harder to come by these days - music helps. Their music soared and still uplifts. I am so grateful.
I wasn't lucky enough to be born in this era, and what I would not give for a time machine to get to experience it! I was born in '89 and got a rubbish music era 😂. My parents were this generation and I was lucky to grow up with such wonderful music as this playing on the CD player right through my 90s childhood.
My all time favorite song. As an old lady now, it still makes me tear up. What incredible talent to have witnessed up close and personal in my lifetime.
Only 41 I love all is well music feel like such a huge loss people yourself artists like these or music the history of this country all the things has been done and said that we're all going to lose it and now I Generations my age and younger just had no content or understanding a memory of the old days and all the things that we've been through and everything from the country for the beginning to the Dust Bowl. 2 the world . And then also the 60s 70s so much sin done this country so much history too much music amazing artist fading away and being forgotten by the generation that we're losing that was probably the best last couple Generations true Americans I'm 41 once all you guys are gone America will be gone American history will be gone American Musical be gone as far as all of us know and remember America will be gone when your older generation passed away and I'm so sad a little feel like we've lost everything 41 from guitar player singer volatile stuff it kills me that we're losing all these artists and music and young people know nothing
Who underrated him? That's such a cliché these days. Everyone I know and I've been playing almost as long as Stephen thinks he's Great. So whomever you know that thinks he's not that good, punch them in the face. for me please.
@@wilbporterwp It is weird tuning. I learned it last week and EVERY string is E (except the B string!) Once the tuning is finishes, the song is actually very easy to play. I can't imagine any other way of tuning the guitar for that song. It has a sound to it whereby the E strings "drone" throughout the song. Believe it or not, it is very easy to play once you get the basics down.
I'm 68 years old. Just had some losses myself. Needed to cry, needed to laugh, needed some depth of feeling. Knew to find some comfort in this music. Rest in peace David Crosby. We are stardust.
I am amazed at the voice quality that they all have maintained. Crosby, with the smooth, low harmony, hasn't lost anything, and I can understand that. Nash, always singing the great high part, is almost unbelievable here. It is most difficult, next to impossible, to maintain a range like that while getting on in years. This was a truly awesome performance.
I've the unity in there voice and quite strength and tenderness I had the privilege to see them live what a awesome awakening of the spirit for me for 4 hours in crediblble
Not to discount this performance, as it is truly fabulous, but Nash did not take all the same high lines as on the album. In particular, I noticed it in the "sparrow" lines. This is still awesome.
@@jackquarantillo5192 see, I have come to the conclusion that Stills did the highest parts in falsetto back in the day. Nash is on top for 99% of the time, but in certain parts Stills goes on top. The “Friday evening” section on the original seems to me like nash is in the middle. It would make sense that you don’t hear that very top part as Stills probably can’t do the falsetto anymore. Also pretty sure Nash’s voice is a bit auto tuned on this
I saw CSN in concert in the early 1970s. The audience was silent. We didn't want to interfere with the harmonies. I saw them twice in the past 15 years. The audience was silent. We didn't want to interfere with the harmonies.
Whatever happened to the world? Where are the True Song writers and True singers of yesteryears??? Am 71 and my Heart cries Out!!! SAVE THIS TINY PLANET... bring back the Voices of The Angels ... PLEASE ❤❤❤❤❤
I'll probably get in trouble for saying this but I always feel like Crosby's voice is kind of hidden stills has an awesome awesome voice but I tend to hear Nash a little more than I kind of would like it kind of drowns out Crosby's voice to me anyway it's not really meant as a criticism I absolutely adore their music I guess what I'm saying is the balance just seems a tiny little bit off I would love to hear a little more of Crosby's voice in the blend that's all
RIP David Crosby.....American singer, guitarist & songwriter best known for being a founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash....David is one of the most influential singer/songwriters in rock history & his harmonies with both Graham Nash & Stephen Stills are legendary....He also released 6 solo albums in his music career & his work with both The Byrds & CSNY has sold over 35 million LP's worldwide....Crosby is a pioneer of folk/rock & country/rock music who also performed at the WOODSTOCK festival with CSNY before recording their 2nd LP "Deja Vu" and won the Grammy Award in 1969 as a member of CSN for BEST NEW ARTIST.....David Crosby was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Byrds in 1991 & also in 1997 as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Pure magic. Did anyone notice Stephen Stills plays Within You and Without You during his guitar solo. ( That’s why you hear Graham Nash say “God Bless George “. Amazing how well their voices have held up. RIP David Crosby and thanks 🙏 for the music.
I've been listening to this tune for fifty years and I've never enjoyed it so much as I do when I watch this video. Their smiles at the end really top it off.

Vale - David Crosby One of the best & greatest Singer/Musicians has passed away aged 81. Along with his mates Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young, Crosby created some of the most iconic late 60's & early 70's music. I know they started in the mid-60's, though to me they epitomise WOODSTOCK. The Vocal harmonies rival anyone else in the music world. Their Guitar work and their sublime Bass lines were ground-breaking and ahead of their time. Even as a very young child I knew their music was very special. RIP Mate, thanks for all the musical joy you brought us.
And don't lose sight of the fact that this was recorded when these guys weren't kids - Crosby is 71 here, Stills is 67 and Nash is 70 here. I'd like to be able to stand up for 9:42 when I hit 71! [It ain't far away, BTW.]
CSN&Y singing, and doing their BEST!Look at their ages.....I have glucoma, and 64 yrs old, with foot pain. They are the lucky ones. Stay heathy,be safe, and put on a smile from time to time.
@Redwood Rebelgirl - He said in an interview that it was a genetic progressive issue and several others in his family are completely deaf as they got older.
Does this old boomer's heart good to hear this version of this classic tune. These lads sure knew how to put a song together, and they still do it so well. So long as music like this exists there is still hope.
I have always loved this beautiful live version. So happy these recordings are available for the world to enjoy the brilliance of performers everywhere. RIP David Crosby
Graham Nash has the voice of an angel. I'm amazed he can still carry those high notes. Steven Stills has to be one of the best acoustic players ever. That's a great sounding guitar, especially with the Harrison tune. The harmonies are thrilling me to the marrow...spine chilling. Thank you for posting this.
One of the Greatest songs of ALL TIME. I have probably listened to this song over a thousand times since '69. This performance is stunning, evocative and heart wrenching all at the same time. We were so blessed to have them in our lives. Thank you CSN and Y.
I have never had my heart torn out, dusted off, and put back in as it was when i played this clip!!!!! When Stills hit that high note, I was in tears. Thanks for those memories.
@@michaelscott7462 I understood what you meant when you said you were black. Black folks weren't the primary audience for CSN. I hope you managed to get over Mr Cooltunes or whatever his name was. Fools like him are desperate to offload the misery they feel by giving it to you. No one can hurt you w/o your permission. Peace be with from this 71 yr old white boy..
@@rtflone WOW! My man...thank you. You very succinctly gave wordage to my sometimes misunderstood statement. You get it. He was probably of a much younger generation and therefore without a reference point for what we had for a short yet glorious moment in time. You have made this world brighter.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Written by Stephen Stills for Judy Collins, his then girlfriend. She loved the song, but still didn't take him back when he played it for her. This is pure Stills genius. Odd tuning of EEEEBE. Amazing how he can play Within You and Without You by George Harrison in the middle of this while in that tuning. I've seen Nash in concert on his own. A purely amazing show that was too. I miss Crosby, may he rest in peace. I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young twice in concert. Once in Varsity Stadium in downtown Toronto in a pouring rain storm in 1971. I feel privileged to have grown up during those times in music. Peace. Love.
I love this. Keep coming back to listen. Their older voices still shine because they are so skilled and so in touch with each other musically. A beautiful rendition.
@@meganostra6633 no, it doesn't denigrate their musical ability, however, the "tough" guy image equates to more sales, whereas bands like CSN, Led Zep, the Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson(Yah, I said it, Michael Jackson) made it big just on their music and entertainment.
So many good songs! Such talent! Of course, we also have a few other groups with similar talent, like "Simon and Garfunkle, "The Eagles," "The Mamas and the Papas," and how about Dan Fogelberg?
I am 69, and fortunate enough to have picked up on Stills and Young with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby with the Byrds, and all the way through til now. I still keep my guitar tuned in D, and there is nothing like the thrill l get playing in the style of Stills. No one else like him.
This is PERFECTION. Please guys; it is a crime that you guys can't get together for a concert. There is NOTHING like the harmonies you guys have - and the fans would be SOOOOOOO happy.
@@dennispicone6801 - So many great bands with the same "problem".....and it's a shame. The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, etc., etc. - problems getting along near the end....
I was a 19 yr. old at Woodstock, when I first saw these 3 angels . They introduced this song by saying " This is only the second time we've performed together, and we're scared shitless" Here, they introduce it, saying, " we haven't done this song in a very very, long time" ....Both times, they are being so absolutely sincere, and both times, they fall into each others spheres with such an absolutely magical fusion, that you can see their own reaction to the splendor of the oneness that results. Stephen Stills, in spite of being the last holdout to a hard living, hard partying life (which when compared to Dave Crosby really says a lot), carries the lead not only vocally, but as one of the best acoustic style players ever, solo, for most of the song . As another commenter, "Grandpa the Grey" said so well "From the time of primordial ooze, those three voices were destined to harmonize." I pity the ones who, for whatever reason, cannot see the clear magnificence that is manifested here.
You WERE at Woodstock man! Touched by these angels and inspired to state this so well. "Splendor of the oneness," "magnificence that is manifested". You got it. And thanks for repeating the "destined to harmonize"... All I can say is Far out!
Well, they were brilliant song writers alright, but they alway blew this one when they did it live. Meanwhile, there are cover groups that nail this tune to the wall.
The pure JOY and look of love on their faces when they triple high five at the end! What a beautiful moment to witness. Seemed like three young boys, happy and carefree. It struck me as quite a juxtaposition to the complex performance they just gave, especially having read about all they have been through over the years, individually and collectively. I think their age and life experience added a beautiful depth and tone to their voices and performance. To see these three together at this age (I am not far behind them) is a real gift. Im'a listen again and likely cry again too!
My favorites Stills song. Great talents, all of them. Having opened for Stills many years ago, I got to meet him and chat him up a bit. Way talented and underrated musician.
For anyone who can spare the time I recommend reading through the comments to see how much these guys have enhanced the lives of so many people ! So nice of Steven to include a tribute to George in the middle of his most famous composition ! I can’t finish without mentioning their association with Neil in CSNY and to thank them for their contribution to the peace movement of the sixtys which changed the world for the better for a while ! I regret to say that the idealism has failed as the world is in the grip of totalitarianism, witness the police forces wading into the citizens who try to express their discontent ! Did you ever in your wildest dreams imagine the President of the United States would try to destroy democracy ? Sorry , I didn’t intend to go here but as trump says, it is what it is ! Good luck everyone !
I'm in tears. You've brought back an era. And they still had every ounce of its depth and beauty. And that after some extremely hard and difficult years in between. Thank you so much for this gift! (Oh yes, I'm 73 years old.)
3 guys who really could sing - one sadly no longer with us. Quite remarkable performance not forgetting Stills' beautiful guitar work. Should be played to all those budding musicians to show what they have to live up to.
Yes I just watched an interview with him today and the last thing he said was “I know that I don’t have a lot of time left here and I just wanna write all that I can and try to make a difference in this world.” He’s top notch.
They did this song last at Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ a few years back, might've be 2012. It was an even better and more energetic performance than this one. Anyway, after the show each one was escorted to the bus. Stills was last and he was limping and huffin' and puffin" with his head down as he walked. Felt bad for him. Gave it is all. It actually was an amazing performance!
A sad song-tale about Stephen Stills' deep love for fellow musician Judy Collins." Sweet Judy" was his unrequited love. This song sings of the joy of preserving the memories of our lost loves.
I am Namibian, at the time I first started listening to these guys I was a youth, learning to play the guitar, so much joy, love and awe may their souls be blessed forever.
Harry Rosson Tell all your friends at school..Get your heads together..You have it in your soul..Bring it alive so we can listen again before we go to the sky
Can you imagine being the inspiration for such a song? Judy is magnificent, in her own right, but this song makes anything else she's accomplished (sooo much) above and beyond. My heart nearly burst just listening to it. What a gift.
i remember .69 like it was yesterday. grew up with these guys. never again will we have music like we had in 60's 70's and even 80's. cant believe how time flies.
I’m born in 67. Never heard of them until I stumbled on Reflections of my life video. I searched for their stuff. They are excellent. Underrated is an understatement. What a great sound. My new favourite band
They played this at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for their encore in both 2012 and 2014 and I can still remember standing, cheering, and crying with joy for both encores. Long live CSN.
They started in 1968 as Crosby, Stills & Nash, formed from former members of three prominent 1960s groups: The Byrds (David Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills) and The Hollies (Graham Nash). 3:33 Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. The title is a play on words. "Suite" is a reference to a part of a classical composition, but it can also be interpreted as "sweet." The full-length version of the song can be considered a suite, with lots of musical changes. Source: Songfacts
This is an old video. I have seen it many times. I was 19 years old when these guys did this “little tune” at Woodstock. I have heard this song thousands of times. It never gets old. It only gets better. This is music! This is art! This is how it is supposed to be done! I believe some younger people are starting to realize the difference between the music from my era and the manufactured “music” that is coming out now. I certainly hope so!
March 2020 and the talent still sizzles! My heart burns to hear these absolutely beautiful songs with glorious harmonies and arrangements. This is music at its best. I'm as old as these guys, and thank my lucky stars that I was born when I was!
Rest well and in peace, Croz. Thank you for you incredible catalog of music. Too many people have overlooked your solo catalog over the past 50 years ... they are missing much of the remarkable music you have given to us. You will be missed.
At 38 years of age today I remember this from father playing it on vinyl. Only time I ever seen him cry. I always figured it's cause my mother's name was Judith Ann was why. But after he passed and as I grew musicly and in age I understand why. Great piece of art!5
David Crosby is the middle harmony. He's so good that his voice is the hardest one to hear in the harmony because he ties the voices of Steven Stills and Graham Nash together.
This is my favorite live recording of this track, not only because it is really well performed, but the age in their voice adds so much beauty to the lyrics. Stills in particular is on a other level here. I want to break down crying during his solos.
Im 67 years old, Im black, Im a man, and. Im crying. A quiet joy has surfaced in my heart as my youth has resurfaced just for a moment.

Beautifully stated . To have been young during that time was incredible, wonderful, and encouraging. Ain't it funny how time slips away.

By who?
It's amazing what one Martin guitar in the hands of the right guy can do.
Did he use open tuning in the original release?
Not sure it always has to be a Martin...
On some occasions however, it does - it really definitely does!
THIS is one of them. Masterly in every sense.
@@wilbporterwp Yes. Open tunings are often his go to songwriting place.

They are GREAT ! Then@ NOW !!
Also pretty sure Nash’s voice is a bit auto tuned on this
Vox populi. Vox dei
They nail it. I got goosebumps when they go into the final chorus. RIP David Crosby.

Vale - David Crosby
One of the best & greatest Singer/Musicians has passed away aged 81.

Agree. Their own reactions say it all. That was magical.
I think it's so cool you were there and got to see/listen to those now-timeless classics!

Unbelievable perfomance.after.a long long long time!! They nailed it Best as ever!!!
They started in 1968 as Crosby, Stills & Nash, formed from former members of three prominent 1960s groups: The Byrds (David Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills) and The Hollies (Graham Nash). 3:33
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. The title is a play on words. "Suite" is a reference to a part of a classical composition, but it can also be interpreted as "sweet." The full-length version of the song can be considered a suite, with lots of musical changes.

This is an old video. I have seen it many times. I was 19 years old when these guys did this “little tune” at Woodstock. I have heard this song thousands of times. It never gets old. David Crosby is the middle harmony. He's so good that his voice is the hardest one to hear in the harmony because he ties the voices of Steven Stills and Graham Nash together.
