When I say these guys changed my life I do not try to be « lyrical » . It’s really what I lived. You must imagine how France was in the early seventies: A very nice but very old fashion country. He must have spent some time listening to Bruce Palmer (his band mate in Buffalo Springfield) and found a way to combine Bruce's approach to bass guitar with his own excellent rhythm/lead guitar playing. Yes, here it's quite a jewel in a what is an already studded crown of a song/performance.
Heavenly harmonies from these guys...I've been in 2 groups that feasted on these gems from CSN (Y)...I'm always the high harmony (Graham Nash part)! RIP David Crosby.
This came out when I was 5 or 6. Unknown associated memories triggered by listening to it moves me to tears nearly every time. It has done this long before I understood the lyrics. Perhaps the flawless harmonies add to it.

Not aware that this would become defining period music, this was absorbed by a young adult in all it’s greatness. Now at 67 not equalled since.
In loving memory of DAVID CROSBY, who passed away tonight at 81. His songs will definitely live on forever.
Kenneth Huang 1/19/23.
At the time of this song, Fall 1969, I was a 14 year old 9th grader. This song, that time, and who I was back then are all a part of me-like a foundation to a house-and will be until I, you, and everyone else have passed-and beyond...
Same here. Entering 9th grade Fall of 1969. We are in our mid 60's and hubs asked me just now to play this song. Brings back memories.
I remember hearing this on 92.5 KZPS all the time in Dallas/Ft. Worth when I was a child growing up. Now that station does not play any kind of those songs anymore!
My dad turned 18 in Feb 1969.. an interesting time to become an "adult" (and eligible for the draft)
@John Golofit
I was 16 and lived in Taipei.
We'd go downtown and buy bootleg albums, made in Taiwan, in paper and plastic covers. This was one of 'em, along with Mountain, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, and others I can't immediately recall (brainfart!)! Good times, for sure!!!
@@drt-abrat1256 Precious memory postcards that never yellow or fray around the edges but are beginning to dim…
Growing up in commissioned housing in Scotland during the 70's, we loved Madness and the Specials and all things Ska and Northern Soul but thanks to the Internet and Travel, we can appreciate music in a broader horizon. Thank you Stills for the music. Thank you Nash for leaving the Hollies and Thank you Crosby for the best voice Eva, bring on Young, You Dancer 🤘
This whole album was off the chain. No one has ever come close to those 3. Rip David. See you on the other side
Saddened to know that David Crosby has died . His music will live in our hearts . His music made my youth enjoyable. Full of memories when I hear his songs. Goodbye to one of the greatest.
No other song gives me as much joy and happiness. This is life!
One of my all time favorite songs..
R.I.P, Mr. Crosby..Godspeed 💗✌
Can truly just make you cry. It’s so good.
I can't get enough of this song. It puts me in such a wonderful mood. It makes me think of a much happier time.
This song and AJA by Steely Dan, are my happy songs. A 22 year retired Marine now with leukemia, some fucked up shit I’ve seen, need a happy place!

There are only a few songs, ever that have developed such a beautiful sound. Their harmony was astounding. It makes me feel ageless. I’ve been listening to it for 50 years. I know I’ll never get sick of hearing it. Lancelot P Coxhead Writer Poet Canberra ACT. Thank you CSN.

When music was music. Love and peace be with you and yours. May your father rest in peace. Always remember him, and honor his memory.
Cherish those memories forever life goes by fast...I see the end of my days my friends have passed ...one day you will know this feeling skol from the Minnesota Vikings
Hi Robin, I too lost my Father 2 years ago this coming October. I find myself over whelmed with emotions hearing a song or watching a YT vid.
I end up bawling my eyes out for what seems like an hour. It feels good to get it out but does nothing to lessen how much I miss my folks.
Let it Robin, connect with your emotions and never forget your Dad. 😪
@aussieabe8421 stay strong. And honestly, reach out if you need to. I'll listen !!
I lost my father at age 11 in 72 and miss him like it was yesterday , I’m 63 now and wish he were here he turned me onto the best music !
Written by Steven Stills for Judy Collins. He wrote it and played it for her. She told him, "It's a pretty song, but I'm not getting back with you."
That’s a tough chick right there. I listen to this song multiple times daily. Different iterations . It’s just beautiful.
I was thinking this was written for of Judy Collins, who Stephen Stills was madly in love with but it was just one way. She wasn’t interested.
Judy Collins had a big hit out "BOTH SIDES NOW".
@@joycevance3078She's still touring! And writing, and recording!
Harsh!!😎😎😎
David..you were right...your legacy is your music...and THANK YOU!!☮☮
Their harmony is incredible!!!!!
Three groups that immediately come to mind with great vocal harmonies: CSN, Beatles, and Hollies. Graham Nash also a member of The Hollies. I agree, their voices complement each other perfectly.
Darn! I forgot to mention The Byrds. One of their members: David Crosby.
RIP David Crosby, thanks for all the wonderful music that you made.
JUST AN AMAZING SONG..!!
The HARMONIZING IS CAPTIVATING..!!
ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS..!!
THIS MASTERPIECE FULLY DEMONSTRATES THE GREATNESS OF CROSBY, STILLS & NASH..!!
😊💙🎸🎼🎸❤️😊
Saw CSN in the 70s...incredible show Absolutely incredible harmonies😊
@Margaret Thank you for the cheers and incredible love. How are you today?

No question one of the best song ever written lyrics, rhythm, meaning , just my opinion 😊
David we still listening
Lyrics:
It's getting to the point where I'm no fun anymore
I am sorry
Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud
I am lonely
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Remember what we've said and done
And felt about each other
Oh, babe have mercy
Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now
I am not dreaming
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Tearing yourself away from me now you are free
And I am crying
This does not mean I don't love you
I do, that's forever
Yes and for always
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret
Are you still listening?
Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart
And I love you
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
And you make it hard
And you make it hard
And you make it hard
Friday evening
Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
Tuesday morning
Please, be gone, I'm tired of you
What have you got to lose?
Can I tell it like it is? (Help me, I'm sufferin')
And listen to me baby
It's my heart that's a-sufferin', it's a-dyin' (Help me, I'm dyin')
And that's what I have to lose (To lose)
I've got an answer
I'm going to fly away
What have I got to lose?
Will you come see me
Thursdays and Saturdays?
(Hey, hey, hey) What have you got to lose?
Chestnut brown canary
Ruby throated sparrow
Sing a song, don't be long
Thrill me to the marrow
Voices of the angels
Ring around the moonlight
Asking me, said she's so free
How can you catch the sparrow?
Lacy lilting lady
Losing love lamenting
Change my life, make it right
Be my lady
Qué linda, me la traie a Cuba
La reina de la Mar Caribe
Cielo, sol, no llega tarde aquí
Y qué triste que no puedo bailar, oh va, oh va
Here is my alternative version to the Spanish lines : Qué linda me la traje pa' Cuba
La reina de la Mar Caribe
Quiero solo visitarte allí
Y qué triste que no puedo , ¡ vaya !
One of the best songs
RIP David Crosby an incredible voice for a generation.
I love David Crosby, too, but it is Stephen Still singing the lead - AND- he wrote the song AND is playing the guitar and probably a couple of other instruments! ❤
RIP Croz.
Even though you had some personal issues, you were all about the music.
Thank you, sir.
Today the rock world lost a truly great singer and song writer
He's in good company 🎉😂❤
Perfection in every way. For my Dad who passed away 5/12/20. Xx
This song always makes me think of my dad being happy as a clam jamming out. It's been 6 months without him, and what I wouldn't do to have him back.
❤️
love to all you struggling with loss. this is definitely perfection.

I feel like I'm not worthy of this level of beauty. This is undoubtably a celestial craft. The world BADLY needs raw heartfelt artists like this again.
Yes, you are right:. Badly needs
Please Lord 🙏🌍🙏✌️🌎💖☺️🤔🎵

If you feel like that...
you're worthy!!!
60s/70s music was WAY better than ANY subsequent generation.
you are worthy, thank you for meeting us here
Pure, distilled 100% proof joy!!
It's magical there a I'll never be another group like them. Stills is a brilliant writer n musician.I can't get enough of the fond memories this brings back to me listening to their music. The best
This Suite crosses over into another demention of lovliness and joy ! ! !😊😊😊
David, I hope you continue to enjoy and make music in heaven. Rest In Peace. May the good Lord judge you by the number of people you brought joy to and by the amount and quality of music from your loving soul
I can't get over how good this song is.
I was just thinking how great their vocals are. Lyrics have amazing depth. Can't figure out if Friday's and Sunday's are for drugs or cooch???
This was normal for a song back then.
Such Top shelf Musicianship and Writing. I'm so thankful I grew up in this time to know and appreciate this. America is another group that comes to mind as well. stellar!!
One of the great masterpieces of popular music.
Among all of the other things that he does, Stills' bass playing always gets me. The undercurrent to so many great songs on this album and others
I didn't know until recently that Stills played bass. After hearing this and other songs, he's a hell of a bass player.
fear is the lock and laughter they key to your heart, undoubtedly one of the finest songs ever produced, timeless classic
Heavenly harmonies from these guys...I've been in 2 groups that feasted on these gems from CSN (Y)...I'm always the high harmony (Graham Nash part)! RIP David Crosby.
I LOVE it!!! I am teaching myself to play it on my guitar 😮!! What FUN!!!😀😊
@Patricia I'm honored to have the kind of support you show me. How are you doing today?
This came out when I was 5 or 6. Unknown associated memories triggered by listening to it moves me to tears nearly every time. It has done this long before I understood the lyrics. Perhaps the flawless harmonies add to it.
