It took me a long time to distinguish Crosby's voice when they go into 3 parts. Nash is easy to seperate, its Stills and Crosby that seem to blend. Even though Crosby is in what the critics call "zombie mode" here, he doesn't miss a note, and his intonation is near perfect. This dude could sing, perhaps even when he was high as a kite. RIP, a truly great harmony singer
I don't know how anyone can even tell if he's making any noise with the stash. He seemed to be out of it the whole show. It sounded nice though even if it was only 2.5 voices.
@yootoob20011957 Here is a specific example where if you listen very carefully you can distinguish the 3 parts. And yes, I had to use visual clues to get it, mustache be damned. Voices of the angels (Stills) ring around the moonlight (Stills and Nash) asking me, etc (all 3) Really focus on the timbre of Stills' voice on ring around the moonlight and track it to the next phrase. Crosby's part on "asking me etc" is the low one, which really blends with the guitar. This is at 06:40. Elsewhere in the song Crosby sings unison with Stills and his voice is really the one you hear, not Stills' which is perhaps why it took so long to figure out who was who
Es cierto, las voces de Stephen y Graham son las más notorias. Cuando canto está canción me es fácil saltar de la primera de Still a la tercera de Nash, pero la segunda de David es fácil ignorarla.
@@rntrojasrojas2204 I can read that in spanish, y gracias . But, mostly, not always, crosby sings the root, and stills sings the third, Nash sings up a 5th or an octave of Crosby even going all the way back to woodstock. wait? the second of david is ignorantly easy? I'm speaking in intervals, you are speaking in parts. Stills sings the lead (la primera) , but in harmony he usually sings the third
One of the greatest - their voices blended in such a unique way - and their phrasing was perfect. I also love Stephen Stills guitar playing skills - underappreciated by some.
They showed up at an on campus pub in Mass one night, visiting people on campus. Someone set up a small PA, and they came in unannouced to an empty pub and started singing. After a while, more people showed up. It was magic.
For me Graham Nash is a largely unrecognised giant. He went from the being top of the charts with the Hollies, to an integral part of a supergroup in the 70s, to producing exquisite work as a single artist.
Totally agree, we saw him live last fall on his solo tour and it was a blast, he asked the audience to sing along with Our House and Teach Your Children.

I was a great fan of JUDY COLLINS…sang her album-music on my guitar…did not know that she had a relationship with Steven Stills, until this morning on this podcast video (w/comments from somebody i don’t know). On 11/23/24. Saturday. 10:35am. I was a great fan of these guys too!! But knew nothing about the under-current, craziness, going on the American culture…me: just an American girl, that’s all. Thank you for giving us your “hearts”.!!❤🎶🇺🇸
I so love watching videos of them.Nash's style is throwing his whole self into the passion while Crosby is still but concentrating on the mechanics of the exact pitch and Stills just doing his own thing. Such a gifted group of musicians.
WOW! I have never watched this song played live. wow. I could feel Steven Stills put his HEART into playing that song. At one point it seemed he was spent form the intensity, then he came forward to lead the finale. Whew!
Graham Nash did these type three part harmonies with Alan Clark and Tony Hicks in the Hollies, and brought that to the table when he met Crosby and Stills. The result was magic.
This is so great, reminds me of so many things. Saw these guys a couple times. Once in Berkeley at the Greek Theater on a warm Summer like California eve. Their harmonies shimmering up and over the Berkeley Hills into what seemed like heaven. Good stuff.... But this is not 1969....this would be more like 1980s. In 1969 Crosby was looking trim and high as the god like long hair of the era. Good post.
It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Never saw this version. it's so funny watching Crosby - he is SO stoned his lips are barely moving. Still it's exceptional with the angelic voices of Graham Nash & the great Stephen Sills singing & fab guitar work. If you don't know them, buy the album. It's pure gold.
This piece is on the list of my 10 favorite songs of all time. I have my original album that I bought 50+ years ago. It sounds like an Indian raga played on sitar in parts.
In the 1960's I loved to listen to Judy Collins. I guess you could say I had a crush on her. Upon finally finding out what Suite Judy Blue Eyes was about (and how great the music and the voices of the band were), I always thought of Judy when listening to their great song.
Nobody can play guitar like Stephen. If somebody asked me who was the best guitarist I would say it would have to be a tie between George Harrison and Stephen Stills
After 5:30 this song comes really alive. Stills singing spanish. And the exiting ritmes of the Caraïben. Stills father was a trator and Stills picked up all the local sounds and mixed them with the american music. I love it very much

What an amazing, brilliant song. A classic. Stills is one of the most underrated guitar players.
Stephen Stills, Jerry Reed, Glen Campbell, and Roy Clark. THE most UNDERRATED guitarists.
And voice.

Too true, you can tell by the few views.

It doesnt' get any better than this. So fortunate to have lived though this period with groups such as Crosby, Stills and Nash at their prime.
More like Stills & Nash in their prime, cuz Crosby isn't doing much here (there, then).

I am sorry
Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud
I am lonely
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Remember what we've said and done
And felt about each other
Oh, babe have mercy
Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now
I am not dreaming
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Tearing yourself away from me now you are free
And I am crying
This does not mean I don't love you
I do, that's forever
Yes and for always
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard
Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret
Are you still listening?
Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart

We are slowly losing our all time greats from 60's, 70's. 80's & yes even some of 90's fantastic performers.
It is not the artists we are losing. As we age it is our connection with our youth. I hear this performance and am 18 again.
Yes, I am still not over losing Croz.

Sadly, finding I must agree! You never think of "AGE" when young, only reaching 21. That was the goal back when.

Great vocal performance. They were unique! My God, thanks for all that real and good music.
Great song that will be remembered forever.
Fabulous live performance by CSN. This performance was Thanksgiving weekend 1982 at the Universal Amphitheater - not 1969.
Favorite song ever.
First time seeing it "live"
And loved watching Stills do his guitar work.
For those who don’t know, Steven Stills wrote this song for Judy Collins shortly after they broke up, hence the title Suite Judy Blue Eyes
Southern Cross too I believe.
The Beatles had the Rooftop and CSN had this moment!! Hard to beat this performance!
