    I figured out the importance of hip extension when i was at a park. i tried to stall for the first time and ended up tucking right before the upward momentum stopped. i got so confused since it felt so much easier and higher that it felt strange

    Fuck. Jumping straight up and spotting is so scary. For me it just feels like the rotation wont happen for me. But ill work on it master tyson. Wish me luck

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 года назад +2

      Good luck! Yeah if rotation feels slow, you need to tuck a bit earlier as it is meant to capitalise on the momentum you created in the jump. Also, yes, you jump up but look at any of my back tucks and see my body is leaning slightly back as I jump, needs a bit of direction.

    • @kevinallen5246
      @kevinallen5246 3 года назад

      I struggle with this too. If I reach full hip extension in my jump, it's like my body shuts down the tuck, but if I get an explosive tuck, it means I didn't reach full extension on my jump. Anyway, thanks for making this video, Tyson. It's definitely the most nuanced and thoughtful breakdown of back tucks that I've seen on RUclips. I appreciate the insights...and also knowing that other people struggle with finding that balance as well. :)

    Underrated information.
    Need exactly this. Thanks Tyson 👌

  • @start662
    @start662 Год назад +1

    So after some digging, I came across the extremely obvious yet interesting bit of physics. You cannot initiate rotation in mid air with no original rotation in the set. If you were to jump straight up and pull knees to chest, the chest goes through equal rotation towards the knees, as there's no friction to keep the two from meeting. This basically means that you need to have some lil bit of backwards rotation as you leave the ground, then use your knees to increase rotational speed by reducing body length. Do with this info what you will

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  Год назад +1

      Exactly right! I address this at 0:50, no digging necessary 😂

      You should spot ahead of you up to just before peak of the jump. Head should never throw back in a back tuck.

    Also wonder was that Guinness record record before or after weight lifting competition training and how hard it was to switch from power clean lower back movement to gymnastic vertical jump? , think abs had to be equally trained to be able tuck after hip extension got used to +100 kg

    Bro i need your help. Been doing backflips for a year now. Managed to land about 30cm behind. Sometimes it’s more. Im scared to jump fully up and then tuck. My vertical is pretty high but somehow when i do the flip i tend to tuck too early and lean slightly back. Ive also tried to imagine jumping forward a bit, that helped me to pretty much land on spot but with no hight. Would you suggest to train with a matt stack? Or what can i do to jump fully up and then tuck? Thx for your help.

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  2 года назад +1

      I'd stack the mats up and practice. The main fear/risk is jumping straight up with no rotational momentum and falling on your back (or worse). The mat stack completely removes this risk and let's to practice the correct balance of upward VS rotational momentum.

    My main issue is struggling to fully extend my legs, I CONSTANTLY take off with my knees bent at close to 90 no matter how hard I try to tell my legs to extend straighter, resulting in killed height and landing low. I'm not sure how to fix this because I think its the bad muscle memory of doing backflips like this for years now hindering me. : /

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 года назад +1

      I'd break down the movement and build it back up. Check out my 'How to Backflip in 4 Steps' tutorial, step 1 will be your focus for the legs.

    Do you think you could beat your own world record? I am 17 and have trained trampolining since I was 4 and only 2 years ago I got into doing tricks on the floor. I can standing full and standing back somersault at a fair height now since last year we had to stay in all summer and I spent a lot of time in my garden just practicing new moves and stuff. I saw your world record for highest standing back somersault and I was surprised that it was only 1.38m. last time I attempted the high jump in school was a couple of years ago and I could clear 1.48m. I am quite a bit taller than I was back then so I could probably clear at least 1.55m by now. I appreciate that standing jumps are totally different to the high jump but I think I could probably beat your world record. Honestly I don't know how hard it is to beat that and I have nowhere near as much training or experience as you do, but I measured the height this morning and it looks doable. Is there anything extra to consider when attempting this world record because I've never really thought about things like this before. I just want to say that I mean no disrespect to your world record but surely you could beat that and jump higher?

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 года назад

      Yeah, I think I could. I only tried this set up once for the record so with more attempts, sure.
      If you saw my video then you would have seen GWR had specific standards which, when applied, results in an overall lower somersault. From memory the back tuck I did (measured my way i.e the lowest point of my body (head) at the highest point of the somersault) was 1.45m.
      Yeah standing is different, I wouldn't use your numbers there to gauge this.
      Consider you have to do it on hard floor and deal with GWR XD

    • @NoahsMightyArk
      @NoahsMightyArk 3 года назад

      @@TysonE Yeah I watched the video and I agree with the way you suggest where you jump straight up and measure the lowest point of your body at the highest point of the jump, but if GWR want to do it differently then thats the way it is XD. I'd love to see a video where you attempt the record again and go for higher :)
