WHAT'S MY MISS?? Vlogmas Day 7

- In order to solve a problem, one must know what the problem is. In search for the problem with my Putting, I thought it might be a good start to throw 100 putts at the basket without thinking too much about it. Just to have a starting reference and maybe even find out what my most common miss is. 100 Putts might not be enough to tell me that for sure but it's a first indication of what could be wrong. I think this is a pretty good drill for anyone though and it only took me about 7 minutes to throw 100 putts. Hope you enjoy!

For the rest of vlogmas, do a quick timelapse of 100 putts in your vid, filler and you can get a larger data set!
Simon you should also tally your misses p2 vs p1 in the same testing, if your really not sure what putter your sticking with this next season.
Hey Simon, cover up that sticker on your router in case your cam focuses on it.
“I’m not 100% sure if I would do that again if it would be the same result”
Well, do it again, Simon!
Get a projector so you can display death putt holes from courses, so when you see them on the field you can just think of your basement and remember that you got this!
This is the, I subscribed to Eagle Button!

After watching the footage, it looks like most of your misses are from just throwing them without a lot of setup. You didn't miss much at the beginning or end, but once you kind of started to get into a routine, you really stopped setting up for and following through your throws. Like there were some throws that you were setting up for a throw before the last throw was even at the chains.
Far be it for me to tell a professional how to improve or anything, but compared to on tour, you basically threw these the second your foot was planted. With 100 discs it's not super surprising because obviously that's a ton of discs to go through.
It's kind of like Quality of Practice over Quantity of Practice, you know?
Again, I'm not one to talk (it's my first year playing), but I've done things all my life that require practice (Sports, Musical Instruments, etc), and 30 minutes of quality practice is better than 60 minutes of crap practice that makes bad habits.
I don’t think this is bad practice at all. It’s called muscle memory. Quiet the mind and go back to the basics. The mind is a huge part of putting obviously, but this is great practice because there’s only a certain amount of thought going in to each putt, which eliminates variables outside of the muscles learning what a 33ft putt takes. Repetition is about quantity. Practice is about repetition. Simon just pointed out that the variables of outdoors and weather being taken out peels back the layers to his natural putt. I’m also an athlete and a musician. Doing something like this for 60 mins is one thing, but this video isn’t 60 minutes long. This is energized, focused, beneficial practice.
As my Karate instructor said "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."
@@calebhintz7695 I think we may just have to agree to disagree on this one. You say it's muscle memory for him to do this, but this isn't the muscle memory that he wants (or at least that he's demonstrated in the past). If what he wants to do is improve his putting, he should be practicing exactly how he'll put in tournaments. Which means taking the time to do your pre-putt routine every single time. Go through the video and watch how he lines up and throws each putt, then compare it to how he lines up and throws a 20 foot putt in a tournament - it's night and day.
You should practice the way you'll be performing. Especially under conditions as controlled as these.
@@TromboneMaster95 Go watch Eagle’s vlog he posted today, you can see what one of the best putters in the world has to say about this. Your way is certainly helpful, but that doesn’t mean other ways aren’t helpful. Don’t know how you can disagree with the way professionals are practicing
i think speed was also a factor. Slowing down would probably be over 80%
Also the fatigue and drop in focus when putting 100x in a row might get you kind of wrong idea what's wrong, maybe? Even if conditions outside would factor in, I think tracking putts made and missed during rounds would be the best way to determine any flaws.
Simon, I think I can speak for your fans in saying, we are here for your redemption tour in 2021. I haven't played disc golf that long but I can't imagine being a pro who has never had their own indoor basket like yourself. You are going to kill it bro. Hopefully see you at DGLO. Dueces.
Merry Xmas Simon! Let's make the Bald Eagle Happen!

Yes... Yes... Yes
We need to make #baldeagle trend on twitter!!!!
Putting from the same spot (any distance) is good for developing form and consistency. I have found that I quickly get bored and lose focus making the same putt (thus defeating the point of practice), so my routine is make a putt, take a step in a different direction, make that putt then take a step in another direction, throw in a straddle putt also. Doing this forces you to focus more and have to evaluate a different angle or distance. We never get the same putt on the course so why not always practice constant variety? I know putting indoors can be limiting, but it's something for people to consider outdoors. I don't have huge distance so I have to be good around the basket and this helps me a ton.
Some things to try in order to capture the best data
1) alternate P1 and P2 next time (1,2,1,2...), then do another the opposite of this one (orange then white)
2) get a camera in front of you.
3) put a camera on top of the basket.
Missing left and not-quite-committing could be a factor of putting in your basement as well. The backdrop looks sick! But the new-homeowner in you is also aware that a miss can lead to a wall hit ;)
The miss @5:41
I felt that one deep in my soul brother!
Biggest thing I noticed is the misses most 5 intervals. At the end of your putting string you give up a little focus to think and bend over for the next group of putters. That's almost 25 shots (of the 26 misses) you had less commitment. Change that and you will be back up to 80% +
the P1 seemed the one missing left. and the ones you missed right were when you switched from p1 to p2
this^
Overcorrection because p2 has more fade
I feel like the misses was more he lost focus, didnt followthru and started going left. Once he missed one or two left he got "mad" and overcompensated the aim and followthru and missed right :P
For a proper exposure you need to get enough light, this can be done with aperture, shutter speed, or ISO, with the ladder making the picture more grainy, or you can add more light, outside or inside with lots of windows, the sun provides lots of light, this is a basement with few windows, so in order to gain more light, the camera is likely switching to a larger aperture to compensate for the low light, a wider aperture gives a lower depth of focus, whereas a smaller aperture will give a wider depth of focus, do a test inside vs outside, the problem could just be available light. Add more lights to your basement if you see a difference in video outside vs inside.
It’s almost like when you throw 100 puts in 7 minutes you don’t follow through as much
Simon slow down it isn't a race to see how fast you can put them go through your routine big guy!!!
by 30 putts his arm was clearly getting tired and he missed like 5 in a row all over the place.
Speed was probably the biggest problem. Too fast tempo. I don't know if the tempo was caused by missing follow-through or vice versa. Follow-through was too short and too fast. Started to reach the next disc while previous was still in the air.
I don't recommend putting 100 putts in a row. I recommend to putt e.g. 25 putts with "tournament" tempo and then take a short break and then next 25 putts. 100 putts is so much that you start losing focus and form stars to break and then it doesn't serve the purpose of a training.
Awesome video!!! 😎
Missing “Shot of the day” in the vlogmas videos! Lol
Honestly I think your putting has looked better in tournaments since you switched to the P1. And we're all ready to see the bald eagle for sure
Hey Simon,
In Spring you have to do it outside in your backyard again and compare your results .. Indoor and Outdoor.. love to see it... best and happy christmas
My 8 month old loves watching your youtube with me! Need to somehow get him a Simon Lizotte disc mania outfit!!! Keto up the awesome videos and meet Christmas to you and your family!
The problem with throwing one after another without resetting your stance is that you correct misses by "throwing different" from the same stance. In a real game you only get one throw, so a good way to practice is to reset your stance each time.
I like the new basket backdrop.
I wish I had a basement to get in some solid winter putting practice.
I guess 12 feet in my 1 car garage will have to do.
I feel like a more accurate gauge of what your miss is would be watching footage.
The reason I say so is because as you putt back to back you are making instant adjustments etc.
Idk maybe if you throw enough putts it would still show your most common miss.
What helps me is keeping my shoulders flat to the basket, keeping the arm swing dead center of my body & leaving my arm out for a few sec after my putt. I hit 30’ and in at around 90%.
Dude you are killing this VlogMas Season!!
When you started the number I had in my head was 80! :D In-between tap ins and jump putts I think you got yourself a World Champ with that kind of putting!
Only if Paul's not playing... 80 isn't great when he's doing it at 90+.
Very good Simon. I guess I am a bigger fan of yours than i thought, because from having watched pretty much most of your competitions on youtube i knew it was going to be left :) :)
Excellent...I agree...we need to save the bald eagle....
definitely an interesting observation. I think the indoor test is a little tricky, because missing high is less likely to happen with the roof in the back of your mind. cool video!
good idea for a video and for helping you to identify where improvement is needed.
Literally almost backed of out this video cause I thought I was re watching Eagles video. Nice Simon crossing my fingers this video works lol
kinda noticed even a lot of the makes were left, so i'm glad the numbers yielded that so simon got an accurate representation. and agreed, i'll bet if he were to do this again with that knowledge, there'd be more right/high misses.
74% is not too bad at all. I think If it were tournament conditions you would have taken more time. Looks like left was a bigger miss. I think in general you are headed in the right direction. Keep practicing and you'll get better! You are fantastic regardless. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the hard work you put in! Merry Christmas and have a great new year! Best of luck in 2021 Simon.
Not only was it your most frequent miss but especially when you look at the first sets, your makes were also a lot on the left side before you obviously started making adjustments. Maybe make a heat map of the hits to the chains by marking the frame from the middle of the disc?
“I don’t think i’ve ever putted 100 putts from the same spot before” Wow i’ve done this seemingly hundreds of times now. Gotta get on your grind man.
Makes sense with a hyzer putt 😏 I am no pro discer, but I also hyzer putt, so I always have to aim to the right of the basket and rely on some fade from a distance over 20ft or so.
This is obviously personal preference for every golfer, but I think you should start practicing putts with the tournament situation in mind. Obviously repetativeness is the key but now you're building muscle memory for streaking putts and the rythm for that. I've noted that from you're other videos too so I think the point somewhat valid. Slow down and take one putt at a time. Even when practicing because thats what you get in tournaments.
Eagle needs to get his RUclips notifications turned on. It says it’s for kids.
Simon, teach your buddy a few things.
Strange that Eagle isn't aware we can't get his notifications. Like Chris says, it says it's for kids.
I HAVE TRIED. I have changed the setting like 100x and it still says it.
@@EagleMcMahon Maybe can contact youtube to get it sorted. Or it is just a setting buried deep in youtube
@@EagleMcMahon oof
@@micah_lee Contact RUclips for help. That’s cute lol. Good luck with that one.
something I noticed. Most of the misses with the orange discs were thrown with a bit more hyzer, where as most of the misses with the white discs seemed to be flatter. at least that's what it looked like to me.
Hey Simon, I noticed that you missed a lot of your last putt's with a putter group. Meaning you missed a bunch when you only had one putter in your hands. Maybe you should always put with a putter in your left hand ? Much love to you, xmas ;)
you could be on to something. i noticed a long time ago that i felt uncomfortable putting with nothing in my off hand because i'm always practicing with multiple discs in my hand. so now i'm always holding a second disc, if for nothing else it creates consistency and routine.
Also, I like the backdrop for the basket. Nice.
About 31% of the misses in the last put of five putters (with no putter in the left hand - but mainly lack of focus thinkin about the next move: reaching for the next disks or moving to the basket). Then the speed issue many mentioned.
If you use manual focus, you can fix the focus issue. Just put something in front of the camera where you're going to stand, manually focus on that, then don't mess with the focus
I think that one of the reasons for a lot of left misses is that you have thrown a lot of p1s lately, while you were also now putting with p2s, so I would assume some of the left mistakes are because the p2 is more overstable and that you didn't account for it on every putt.
Heading over to Eagle's channel now. Merry X-mas.
I doubt you got the idea from my comment on your other video but you put a tapestry up in front of the foam and it looks sick! I like how you went with the forest look. Almost like you're at a real course. haha
Definitely thought it would be simon vs squirrel.
Kinda disappointed it is not.
We still got 18 days.
Get couple oscillating fans for corners then hide them behind vanities to simulate random wind.
You have more putters than I even have in total discs. I’d love to win a disc from you or a bag this Christmas season. It would be a dream come true.
Very practical, super good idea!!!
Love the background u decided to put up to hide/replace that black cushion stuff u put up before. 85% plus sounds pretty reachable for u. I’m still at the ..............Nevermind mind my percentage, lol.
Have u ever thought about putting a spot light on ur ceiling to face down at ur basket? Maybe turn off the lights and just put spot light on and do some night putts? Change it up for fun? Just a thought :-) keep up the and I look forward to ur next video.
Btw, I know a lot of us are/can’t wait to see Eagle shave his mop. He is gonna looking hilarious, lol
74% from 33ft (consecutive reps) is actually like 84-88% if you account for the walk there, walk back and also trying to do the same exact motion 10 times in a row... you eventually will get like a “rubber arm” feel after a while LOL I think that’s pretty impressive
Simon just slow down the stroke. Not giving yourself an extra half second each putt means you're rushing the wind up, and therefore not saving the juice you need to push it straight in. Look at somebody like Paul McBeth or MJ. McBeth has a very slow, and methodical wind up. MJ, while being known as a fast putter, still has a very consistent and slow wind up routine before he jams it in.
I think you missed a lot when you went to pick up the next stack 😂. Thanks for all the great content as always!!
Yeah this is exactly what I was going to say. A lot of those left misses were when you were reaching down to grab a new stack. You missed a lot of the last putts in each set of 5 and quite a few of the firsts also. Middle 3 much higher percentage. Not sure you'd get the same result at all if you did a much longer experiment and took your full approach for every putt.
The issue isn't left/right, it is too much hyzer. It's harder to make putts when you are also trying to hyzer consistently in addition to your release point.
Dude, love the videos as always your the best man.
Whats the rush with the putting?, its like you are speed putting.
I figured if you want to see inconsistencies in your putting over 100 putts from circles edge, that you would be careful to take your time re set after each putt not bounce through them like you were on a timer lol
It's looking like you are really trying to hussle in this video, but Calvin had a great putting practice tip of making sure to reset your footing after each put. Since that is the way you do it on the putitng green and if you miss and have the wrong footing you are going to correct with your arm rather than what is really wrong. Anyway thx for the content! :)
Subscribed to eagle. Merry Christmas Simon!!
I'm one hell of handy man I can cut out those stairs and make a low running rail for ya! Would make putting easier for ya. Enjoy the vlogs man always man happy holidays.
...from what I have seen in the past years, I would say your most common miss is low and right...Now, I am watching the rest of your vlog...:-)
I think throwing a hundred in a row like that might add some fatigue, contributing to low and left misses. I bought a nice DD catcher for your 10 foot challenge. Guess I'm heading out into the cold this week to give this a shot.
I’m not sure if this helps anyone, but I calculated the differences between the P1 and P2
Out of the 26 misses: P1 missed 54% and the P2 missed 46% of the shots.
Below is the breakdown by type of Miss:
Type. P1. P2
Left. 50%. 50%
Right. 57%. 43%
High. 100%. 0%
Low. 40%. 60%
I'm already subscribed to Eagle's channel. Cut the bottom 5 steps and make it end at a 90 degree angle towards the camera. Then you'll have a full lane and can throw left handed.
Had to go check. Subscribed!
This needs to be the intro of every video for the rest of vlogmas
even the putting green is set up for a "righty" = )
Might just be random but it appears to me that you were most consistent with the P1
Merry Christmas. You should do it daily and update us weekly to see how it goes. Give us your best and worst of the week to see if you gain in a couple weeks
That is was better than I would do. I think you need to slow down just a little. You seemed to be rushing these putts. Might be good to set up another camera to capture your stance and release. See if there is any inconstancy there. Definitely think you should do this again but maybe like every couple weeks. Glad to see the effort, but keep resting that elbow!
Lol!!! Just subscribed to eagles channel!!!! Just for you! I hope you did your Christmas wish
Great job we enjoy the hard work you put in this month. I was already subbed to him🤪 well before all this started!!!
If you are aiming for the basket, a hyzer putt will bias your putts towards missing left, because anything to the left of the pole is in danger of being pushed further left. You can compensate by aiming right but I would just avoid hyzer putting. It's no coincidence the best putters don't do it.
Paul hyzer putts...
@@nautilusshell940 Yeah a bit but it doesn't seem to drift the disc left like Simon's does. Paul's putts go pretty straight just with a little angle. At least that's how it looks to me. I may be wrong.
That back drop is awesome! That looks so good man!
I have a similar setup. I throw 85 putters from the same spot. Any that make it in the basket get thrown again, until only one remains.
I think your putting stroke looks way better and cleaner with the P1's. But this is from an amateur's perspective.
I went to Eagle’s channel and subscribed immediately!
Man I was just trying to do my homework why did u need to post another vlogmas... Just kidding keep it up simon!
I love the wooded background you added....BUT is that a fun chore or a necessary chore LOL? Maybe you can make a Simon does necessary chores vlog. Let's be honest, we'd all watch you trap squirrels, etc. for 20 minutes.
Awesome video
OMG are we going to get to see a bald eagle. If we do. Somebody needs to make a new bald Eagle disc😁 when you’re practicing putting practice how are you play out on the course. If you hold another disc in your hand do that while you practice but don’t hold a stack of disks in your hand while you’re putting. This will make a difference in you’ll have more concentration. Try this 100 putts again. You will see different results. Love your videos. Keep them coming
Thank u Simon u did it I didn't think u would but u did
Bald eagle haha. You can do it! For ‘merica!
BALD EAGLE FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Subbed and dubbed for the bald eagle... LETS GO!!!!!!!!
0:28 Manual mode Simon, manual! :)
So, what I'm about to say comes with a massive grain of salt because you're the pro and I only see what's on the videos, but I did notice a lot of left misses this year from you. What I'd like to ask is how new is the hyzer angel on your putts? I haven't gone back to watch too many old rounds recently, but I seem to recall your putt being a lot flatter, which I think benefits your spin putt greatly. Having a flatter putt just decreases the number of variables that can go wrong and keeps everything in a straight line and on the pole.
Get those handrails removed from end of the staircase and you have perfect putting area.
Loving the daily content! Did you check what disc you missed what with?
P1s miss mostly right and P2s miss mostly left in this video. So if Discmania makes a P1.5 Simon will be perfect at putting.
Very interesting idea, specially for us in the Midwest!
set up a rotating fan to imitate a light breeze like you would see outside
Do a distance driving challenge.Seeing throws go miles really makes me satisfied, like your bomber 744ft drive in the skins at fox run
Nice wallpaper behind the basket. 100 putts later....
*Have you dealt with the squirrels in the attic yet???*
A bold eagle awesome!!!
i mean, you're putting on hyzer because of your staircase. you usually spush straight at it. i feel like if you had a straight line at the target, you'd miss less putts left.
Hey Simon, try the Putting Practice feature in UDisc!
