    I recently acquired HONDA Odyssey FL250 ABANDONED, WILL IT RUN BARN FIND kinda'. Lets see what it will take to bring her back to life: carb rebuild, new plastics, seat repair, brakes, exhaust, grips, levers, paint, powder coat, tires, wheels and of course tuning, the list is pretty long. From trash to cash this is a diamond in the rough for sure. I can't wait to ride it!

    Great video, I just acquired my first honda water cooled engine. I think like you do and I’ve been doing riding mowers and engines for over 50 years. It’s a great hobby. It’s always good to refresh your mind and it’s your video that will help me get this old motor back to running. Thank you.

      Hi Randall, there is just something special about bringing back a small engine. As I sit and listen to them run, it's sort of peaceful and pleasing that " I did that" with my own two hands.

    I acquired a 1980 Honda CX500 motorcycle from my father a few months ago and that's the project for this coming spring/summer as it doesn't need much. When my friend helped me pick it up he popped the carbs & air box off, cleaned some mouse house out of it, hooked up his portable jumper pack to it, gave it a few squirts of some 2-stroke mix and it fired right off. After looking at the carbs they're frozen solid with some varnished gas as it has been sitting since 2004. But because they're the type that have the vacuum operated slides in them they're garbage anyway.
    My friend found a kit that replaces the original carbs, intake boots, and throttle cable with two standard round slide Mikuni's, two billet intake "throats", and a y-throttle cable. But the kit is going for $650, so it's going to take a bit to get them. Luckily after looking it over all it needs is the carbs, some new tires, a battery & air filters and an oil change. Once she's up and running I'll have some cheap transportation for the summer so I'm not driving my truck everywhere.
    My other two projects are my 1985 Kawasaki KLT 110 three wheeler that we pick at every now and then and my 1981 Yamaha YZ 465 dirt bike. We replaced the intake and exhaust valves in the KLT but the momentum stopped after we found that we needed some special tools to remove certain engine parts. Once I have those the work will continue. The YZ on the other hand is a roller/basket case and requires a full rebuild so it is a long term project that I'm not worried about it right now. We've been focusing on more important things that have a higher priority. :)

      Enjoy the time with friends and family out in the shop, there is no better satisfaction than fixing something yourself. it doesn't matter if its a toaster or a atv, the self worth and satisfaction of a job well done, and that you did it. That's awesome you have your Dads cx500, keep it in the family. Thanks for watching and good luck on your project. Small wins, complete big projects.

    FYI, If anyone cares or gives a rats derriere? the part he calls "fingers" or "dogs" on the pull starter rewind unit is normally described in all the parts diagrams I have ever seen as pawls. This doesn't mean every manufacturer uses this this term? Kawasaki and Suzuki do and I'm pretty sure Briggs, Kohler and Tecumseh also list this part as a pawl.
    I love these videos and always learn something new with every view. If I had a teacher like this man in school, I would have gotten an A+ in every subject. It's always a down to earth, simple and logical approach that allow even ADHD patients like me to learn something. I had to watch this video as I bought one about 3or 4 yrs ago but I really haven't messed with it yet. Like yours, Mine has the wire hang around deal also, I looked the machine up and printed the wiring diagram but had other projects that were being neglected also. The motor has great compression which is good. It came from an estate sale and I bid on it by the pics and description only because it was 175 miles away. One thing you mentioned that I didn't catch when looking through the forums was the color generation. Mine is yellow and it even says 1977 on the id tag on the rear frame. Somehow I don't know I'll ever get to it again, rat rod car and truck,rat utility golf cart type, rat 3 wheel '60 model golf cart and mower projects that are inline ahead of this. I was initially excited when I found in research that there are clubs around the world keeping them alive and would be a wealth of information. If anyone is interested in one I have decided to sell it however I live in north central Minnesota. Not looking to get rich, just get my investment back $600, so someone with more time can eventually enjoy it. I did enjoy your video and like you said, there haven't been any of these to my surprise on youtube.

      Hi Gordon, Thanks for watching, if its yellow its the first generation, much like my red one. I owned a FL250 about 7 years ago was way to fast for the solid rear suspension. I ended up installing a racing seat I got at a swap meet for $35 because the original was roached and replacements were expensive I'm sure they are no better now. I have been looking for another for a while it was a boat load of fun. I traded mine to a friend for a "ready to ride" warrior my friend told me he wanted it for his kid to ride because he wasn't comfortable on a quad. He ended up selling the FL250 right after the trade. I only traded because I wanted a kid to enjoy the sport like I did. Had I know what he was going to do it would still be in the horde. I ended up selling the warrior at a severe loss to A coworker who "wanted to ride" with me. He sold that a couple weeks later for more than double what I sold it to him for before we even got to ride together. That entire experience is why I no longer sell especially to people I know.

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  2 года назад +1

    I had the slide get stuck like that on my tri z and the original carb was junk cause it corroded so bad. I got the slide out by pulling the main jet out and getting a punch that fit perfectly around the emulation tube and being as gentle as I could and tapping on it. It came right out that way but it’s not advised if it’s a machine that is hard to get parts for. Don’t know if this will help. But nice find those things go for an incredible amount of money where I live.

    Have one of them but the engine broke and it's almost impossible to find parts so now it's a project . Just have to decide what engine to put in it. I have a Rotax 440 but was thinking Vtwin electric start 4 stroke . Just installed new rubber all the way around 2 weeks later it died . May install independent rear suspension and fix the crappy front suspension and steering. Looks like yours has been sitting outside a long time

Their called tang ears.& Dog feet& tang arms that are spring loaded to release.& Contract in together. When you stop pulling the pull starter pull rope. That has A guide pin with is sometimes riveted in the pull tops.& Some are removable to witch is roll pins that you tap in the pull tops. That's A 1981 small engine on A 1982 Honda odesy.

    I always thought the dual plugs for fowling was a dumb idea, a plug that doesn't fire will fowl worse than one that sparks so when the ran plug fowls out the other ain't gonna do crap for ya lol
    Thing to do is get a dual-plug-coil to fire BOTH spark plugs together, you won't get much better spark than that!
    83+ is when Honda settled on their wiring methods, 82 & earlier most Honda machines had inconsistent wiring methods and wire color codes making each of them quite the pain to diagnose and repair but all their 83+ machines are heavenly! That was when they FINALLY "standardized" green as ground, orange and blue as signals, etc and got away from having things like main relays shared between fans AND fuel pumps. They also did less of what they did with the CB550s where every trim of every year had completely different wiring harnesses so a 74 CB550F, 74 CB550K, 75 CB550F, and CB550K do not share wiring harnesses and many electric components aren't directly compatible....

I hate to suggest that, but it may come to it. If you done feel comfortable, pull the engine and take it to a motorcycle shop, and let them fight with it. Good luck and let me know what you come up with. Thanks for watching

    • @mrcbuilds
      @mrcbuilds  2 года назад +2

      Hi Ron, that's a hard one to diagnose over the interwebs. So it rode fine a day or so ago, now you got to kickstart it,and the kicker is lock, it will not move. I would make sure it's in neutral, pull the plug and try to kick it again. Pull the inspection cap on the left side where the starter gears are. It takes a torx bit, turn the engine by hand, if it does turn I would guess you have a bad one way bearing on the kicker, if the engine does not turn with the plug out, then the motor is locked up. You can put some PB blaster in the sparkplug hole let it sit 24hrs and try to rotate the engine by hand. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching

      Hi comrades, I may have miss spoke on the 2 spark plug issue, i repeated something i was told. I find it intresting that so many have 2 plugs in them. Why? Did the decompression system fail? If there was a solid plug in the head why would so many people take it out just to install a spark plug and then not hook it up. I have read a few articles stating running 2 plugs for a better burn or to have a spare. I have been researching this issue since posting this video, and can not find clear concise information on this issue. The manual show 1 plug and no decompression button. If this is a left over part from the Honda Elsinore as some have stated, then why would so many average people take the pipe plug out? Thanks for watching.
