Well, depending on your deck, an effect like this really breaks your neck. Imagine an Encore/Blitz or any onther "One Turn hasty Token" Style deck. That really stinks :D
It’s all who you play with. If your okay group can’t handle Thalia or shoot her because she’s the “threat” when other threats exist maybe you should play with other people
If Randy wants to add some nasty control, insert Lavinia of the Tenth in the deck. With Soulherder or Conjurer's Closet out, you can almost completely shut down other people's boards with her detain ability.
I may be wrong, but because Meren's ability targets a creature card in the graveyard, Ayli may not have been able to sacrifice reclamation sage with Braids and then return it to hand with Meren's trigger as part of the same stack.
This is 100% correct. Meren's ability needs to have a target as it's put on the stack. Since the stack can't start to resolve until all targets are selected Rec Sage would not be able to be targeted. Surprised Ayli didn't catch that herself.
21:20 Ayli couldn't return reclamation sage to her hand because it wasn't a legal target at the beginning of the end step when Meren triggered. I don't think she had any creatures in her graveyard she could target
20:40 and 21:15 Meren and Braids triggers both go on the stack at the same time, so you have the pick a target for Meren's ability then. Rec Sage wasn't in the bin yet, so Ayli couldn't have brought it back with Meren since it wasn't there when she should have picked the target. Roper caught it the second time. I feel like it was talked about at 27:10 but it got cut.
Pretty sure braids and meren both triggered at the end step, once merens ability is on the stack it has to target sometime before braid resolves. So I don’t think she was able to get the rec sage back since it wasn’t in the graveyard while merens ability was put onto the stack
I'm putting it into my 99 in my Kathril deck I think she helps Kathril a bit with the sac ability giving her possibility of more keyword counters. plus protects Kathy with the tap ability a bit. And who doesn't like the extra land draw.
Representing the floating mana is cool but maybe use some other tokens or just half the land cards? it gets a little confusing when out of a sudden there is extra lands on the table
I play mono-green Omnath too, he took all the hatred. Killing Doubling Cube, Wilderness Reclamation, Sword, and Omnath twice was brutal. And the discarded Pathbreaker Ibex. He should have Chorded for a Seedborn Muse, Nyxbloom Ancient, or Terestadon though. I cut Craterhoof from my deck, there just aren't enough creatures and I don't play Avenger of Zendakar. Planar Portal + Seedborn is the 'I WIN' button.
If you're running doubling season and roaming throne, you've got some threats down.. just say you've played Rampaging Baloths.. then you follow up with reshape the earth - that rampaging baloths triggers 10 x for each land down, roaming thrones triggers a second instance of everything thus far, so effectively that's 20 triggers so far.. and then doubling season would double that figure making 40 x 4/4 beasts - if you don't get board wiped or still have the mana to get craterhoof out that's 40 x 40/40 beasts. Then ya boy zopandrel comes in, hung like a donkey, pumps your boys up to 80/80.. that's 3200 damage to distribute from 40 different sources. if you don't get countered, that's a table wipe.
I don't think Aili could have gotten the reclamation sage on that meren trigger since it didn't exist in the graveyard at the time the ability would go on the stack and have to pick targets. Could be wrong
I really think Ranar is under-rated. It's definitely because Brago is just so much more consistent as a flicker commander, but Ranar is strong in his own right.
The problem with Ranar is that he really is mediocre. He doesn't provide card advantage and the payoff isn't great either. Vega the Watcher is a legit better Foretell commander. As far as Blink goes, Brago, Yorion and Oji are better options.
@@ferdithetank7535 you only looking at the foretell side of things. He rewards value by flickering things there making a spirt army. Vega take much building because the only thing it provides is card advantage then you have to run a lot of foretell and rely on cards like ethereal angel heavy.
I love Nath Stax. Been playing it for years now but I and others run into this same scenario practically every game. The other 3 players will focus all damage on you regardless if you're no longer the threat. People just straight up hate discard/stax over mill, creature hate, board wipes, prison, land destruction etc. to the point that they throw out all logical threat assessment.
21:20 So this is a bit of a misplay I'm afraid. Yes Ayli can stack the beginning of end step triggers how she wants, but upon triggering the Meren ability she must choose a target in her graveyard. This choice happens before both the resolution of the Meren ability and the resolution of the Braids ability, therefore she can't choose the creature she sacrificed with the Braids ability Aka Rec sage, which was her choice. Technically an illegal play.
In regards to Lynch's flooding, how much land do y'all run in your commander decks? The most I run is a Aesi lands matter deck and it's 44 but I have 2 other decks that run 35 and they all play great but I hear all the time it's nowhere near enough. Thoughts? I base my land count on when I started building standard I was told %40 is a good rule of thumb, more for control and less for agro and just directly applied it to edh
When I start a new deck 37, 38 is the land count I start with 🤔 it usually depends on playstile draw fixing etc. So If your deck works fine it works fine with 35 lands. If you allways have to ask to draw another full mulligan, because you never have enough in your starting hand you should think about it. And another thing is Ramp is no ramp without a landdrop usually, soo if it often happens that you pay for ramp but don't have one think about adding more lands. That's my perspective 😅

I see that she targeted the elvish visionary with meren which was already in the graveyard so no game rules were broken there, but I just wanted to clarify that she couldn’t have gotten Rec sage back that turn anyway
I started magic with this deck but focused on the flicker dude as my commander. It gets a good board state if left alone but without decent cards it's hard to get wins with. I built a homebrew kaza and extus a few years in and those are my two favorite decks still
That first Meren trigger getting back the Rec Sage shouldn't work. Meren targets and the rec sage was not a valid target when the ability triggered at the beginning of the end step.
Couple of factors. The pod your in and if you can follow it up. The pod is just the general powerlevel and how much removal or other tools they have to deal with the nasty plays. The follow up means: it is okay to be in bad situation with magic, if that bad situation is reasonably quickly resolved either by removing it or by the player playing it winning the game :p
Why’d he go get craterhoof? Loose 6 power from omnath just to give trample? Kinda lame when people search for the bangers of the format in bad situations. It’s like searching for a dockside to get 3 treasures

Honestly, her grabbing Necropotence cost her the game. She should have just grabbed Sadistic Hypnotist and stripped everyone's hands. Doing that would have most likely let her win in the next two-ish turns since she had Elvish Harbinger in hand.

It is annoying yet hilarious when people get so focused that someone like Randy wins because they are so worried about one person they do not think about the long game.
Why? The card is suboptimal in "friendly" games. It's mainly good in extremely high powered or cedh games or decks that are trying to draw to the moon and back. If anything the card probably did more damage to her that game than anyone else.
Does Ayli have any real cards? I watch this to see how high end cards are because I can't afford them. Every game she plays are proxies. I understand rule zero but I watch this show because it is " I wish I could afford a deck like that. Heck fare I could build better decks than these using proxies!
I know a lot of people put their real versions in a binder and just use proxies as a place holder. I personally prefer using the cards in my deck but will use proxies if I need more of that card for other decks because you can accidently damage cards by constantly swapping them between decks
This show is not a gallery for good cards. Than you might have to watch legacy events or so. If you watch cedh or stuff usually proxies are totally accepted since you play with power not with your wallet. Further I wouldn't say that the powerlevel of this show is to the moon. It depends on the video, but mostly it's casual higher power like 7 maybe 8.

Most of the time. I just don't have enough copies of 1 card. Others I have spending limit. During this particular recording, I had been moving. So finding everything was in-fucking-possible

Agreed, in a landfall build 44+ feels correct (I'm running 52 in borborygmos enraged), in most decks I'm sitting around 37 lands.

My friends bought Ranar precon as a 1st commander deck, upgraded IT but he never belives on its while i think this deck can be super awsome.
I started magic with this deck but focused on the flicker dude as my commander. It gets a good board state if left alone but without decent cards it's hard to get wins with. I built a homebrew kaza and extus a few years in and those are my two favorite decks still

A sad battle, would have loved to see ayli more time in it with that deck. I think politics was rushed a lot when omnath obviously was the real enemy.
