Great episode. You can’t be in the undercity and another dungeon at the same time.
If you are currently on a dungeon and get the Initiative, you go to the next room in that dungeon. You can't enter The Undercity while in another dungeon.
The distinction on enter the battlefield effects is one I see Elesh Norn players misunderstand all the time. Key words you need to look for are "when" or "whenever" X thing enters the battlefield, those count. As opposed to "as this enters" or "enters with" those do not count as triggers.

If I'm not mistaken at 33:16 when Lynch plays Sarevok's Tome and as a result takes the Initiative, he should have continued at the Tomb of Annihilation due to the fact that He was already in there.

Just so you know, if you have or take the initiative when you're already in a dungeon, you keep venturing into that dungeon. You only venture into the Undercity if you're not in a dungeon at all at the time.

for mono black from specifically this set, i would had done Karumonix, the Rat King as my commander as it's the only one that does something relevant and you might be interested to keep around as a deck where the other options are either best in the 99 or there's literally just something else that exists that's better.
Imo the best karn is liberated which has no pants

JKJK love the series and have been wanting to make a Chiss deck for a while.
Just FYI "Venture into the dungeon" and "take the initiative" both just progress you forward in whatever dungeon you're in, so when you're already in the tomb of annihilation and get saervek's tome out you just go further in the tomb, you don't enter the undercity. It's tripped me up a bunch before because I agree it's not super intuitive, especially since if you lose the initiative the opponent who takes it from you goes into the undercity even if you're not in the undercity. Great game!
It's 3 am and magic is hard. You can't actually be in more than one dungeon at a time, even if you take the initiative after venturing into a dungeon. So if you're already in a dungeon and you gain the initiative, you actually go just to the next room of that dungeon. Reading the card only sometimes explains the card. Love the video as always, y'all are awesome!

Hey, cool video - I noticed that when lynch went into the undercity he wasn't supposed to, he was supposed to carry on with the same dungeon he was already on, a lot happened with the turn which may have impacted the game D: it was 3am to be fair and a lot going on. still awesome to watch - Alternatively i could be mistaken :O
just a quick thing if you are already in a dungeon iniative and venture become interchangable as far as you advance the dungeon you are already in best way to remember is essentilly you cant be in 2 places at once.
Lynch to call out others to pay attention to triggers yet he missed at least 5 treasures from sky drawing during his turn lol
The way the initiative works when you are already in a dungeon is you continue the one you are already in, not supposed to be in 2 dungeons at the same time, does not matter for this game since its over but for the future
33:20 I hate to be the guy to point this out but at this point since Lynch gained initiative he wouldn't have gone into the undercity but would have instead advanced into the next room of the tomb of annihilation. Meaning he would have not gone into the undercity with initiative until he finished the tomb of annihilation.
Such a great game though, I always love seeing you guys go at it!
When you are already in a dungeon initiative just makes you go to the next room. You can only enter the undercuts if you take initiative and are not currently in a dungeon

When Roper reanimated the Platinum Empirion, I don't think he would actually lose the 8 life because the Empirion would prevent his life total changing! Cool interaction

33:18 When you take the initiative you don't enter the Undercity if you are already in a dungeon, you just move into the next room.
At 33:28 You cannot be in 2 dungeons at the same time. When you get the initiative, if you are already in a dungeon, you only advance to the next room, you do not enter the undercity.

A player already in a dungeon will proceed to the next room of that dungeon upon trigger of initiative. Lynch cannot be in the undercity and another dungeon simultaneously? If I'm not mistaken. Just putting that out there 😊!! Keep taking those turns ans tapping them perms!!!

If you're already in a dungeon, taking the initiative, you only can venture into the same dungeon.
The Initiative furthers whatever Dungeon you are in already, only if one isn't in a Dungeon already does one venture into the Undercity
For future reference, when you Venture into Undercity while you are in a dungeon, you venture deeper into that dungeon instead.

When you have or gain the Initiative and are already in a dungeon, you don’t go into the Undercity-instead you continue in the dungeon you were in. Players can’t be in two dungeons at once. But this was a GREAT game!
At 59:50 Contagion Clasp didn't have an ETB trigger, that changed nothing to the plays that were made but still caught my attention

When you played sarevoks tome you only get to go through the dungeon you were in so you wouldnt have gone into the undercity.
Btw tekuthal, inquiry dominus phrixean effect is a misprint its only supposed to have 1 phrexian symbol and pay one colorless

At around 33 mins in, you take the initiative. But because you're already in a dungeon, you don't go I to the undercity. Whilst already in a dungeon, you would simply advance further as if the card also read "venture into the dungeon." Basically can't be in two dungeons at the same time.

JUDGE! There was no loss of life trigger when shimmer myr entered battle from the Suture Priest. Only the commander was identified.

I guess there was a little misplay at 33:23. When you took the initiative, you've been already in a dungeon, which means, that you should have completed that one first before you enter the undercity^^
When you're already in a dungeon, you don't venture into the Undercity when you take the initiative, but you venture into the dungeon you're in. So Lynch wouldn't be able to grab a land and finish the Undercity when he did.

When you cast reanimate on the platinum emperion. You should of not lost life. The life lost happens after it comes into play. It's also why it's a great card on vilis cause you draw 8 cards when you cast it.
Slight mistake on taking the initiative (33:15): If you already are in a dungeon, you go down that dungeon rather than venturing into Undercity.
when you take the innitiative and you are already in a dungeon you advance in the one you already are until you finsh it, one player can't be in 2 diferent dungeons at the same time

49:22 if you try and go to combat and someone responds, you stay in main phase and he could recast chiss Goria if he wanted to
43:31 roper wouldn’t lose eight life from the reanimate because at the time of the loss of life, emperion is on his board. Same reason why reanimating vilis lets you draw 8.

Just a heads up, when Sarevok's tomb ETB take the initiative, Mike was already in a dungeon, so you would have just moved forward in that dungeon instead of going into the undercity.

With mishras reserach desk, play is not the same as cast, you can play a land and it wouldn't count for aerial extortionist because he cares if you cast something.
Blink decks are always a pain in the ass because their main game plan also happens to make their creatures removal resistant
The suture priest is a may ability. So gaining life and losing life is a may.
Lynch sould have proceeded into the next room of Tomb of Annihilation when he got the initiative instead of entering Undercity, just fyi

Reanimating platinum emperion does not cause life loss. The actions of reanimate are performed in the order they are printed so once the life loss from reanimate would happen emperion is already in play.
When Lynch was taking the initiative he was supposed to complete the dungeon he was already in. You are still only allowed to be in one dungeon. These things get convoluted I know and it didn't distract from how good of a game this was by any stretch of the imagination. It was just something I noticed.

no because its a cast trigger not an ETB, so only one trigger.
@@gillianschmitz6305 aerial does its trigger on etb and attack though , so when you cast it , wouldn’t it double as it is entering the battlefield trigger ? I know when it attacks it would only be one.

I'm pretty sure you cannot both be in the undercity and a dungeon. If you've started either then both iniative and venture continue the one you've started.

Reanimate says put a creature into play. Then lose life. But due to the platinum emperium in play roper should not have lost life since that is not possible anymore.
Roper kept missing ancient tomb triggers
At 43:23, Roper shouldn't have lost life for Reanimating the Platinum Emperion. Since the enter and life loss are separated by a "full stop" or "period". Which is why if you Reanimate Vilis, Broker of Blood, he enters and then sees the life loss, causing you to draw 8. Platinum is on the field, so no life loss can occur.

Sky's deck shows how once it gets going, that deck can't be stop unless someone plays Vandalblast or Cyclonic Rift. Putting affinity on a commander that powerful which in turn allows you to you to play more artifacts is just broken.
Pretty sure Lynch misplayed the initiative since he was already in the Tomb of Annihilation.
Instead of going into the Undercity he should have pushed through the tomb... Eventually entering the undercity only after he has finished the Tomb.
Hard to tell what effect it would have had, but probably would have been significant.
Otherwise a good game, Chiss-Goria looked super resilient. Sad to see Tekuthal miss so badly. No proliferates in the proliferate deck is a sad day.
