I'll jump on the comments bandwagon of how interesting this series was on how to effectively improve a rig on a minimal cost. The potential was definitely there on this rig, and I was pleasantly surprised even with the stock tires how composed it was on most situations. Great takes (camera angles and movement to show the details and inclination of the rig) on the problems, by the way. I was able to see how the truck was doing at all times! Great, cool, calm, collected driving as well!
It's been really interesting, watching the changes to this truck, and how the performance has improved. Just goes to show, if you check the performance after every change, chucking expensive and unnecessary parts at a car, won't necessarily make it run better. I'm going to have a look at my TRX4, which although isn't heavily modified, as it came as a builders kit, to see if I can improve it (getting rid of the rear expedition rack as a start!!!) 👍🏻
Everything but the radio box. I haven't pulled the rx case off to see if they've treated it against water, but assume it isn't. I'll check and edit this later on, but worst case, waterproof the radio yourself and the rest of the car is good to go.
It’s nice to see budget trucks stay on a budget. Get problems fixed so it can perform. I like the looks of that truck for some reason it’s just different Thanks Dan
Another great video with some golden mod tips that can apply broadly to many models. You've improved cg, ride height, suspension geometry, slow speed motor control and approach/departure angles! All really without spending much money 👍. The Pioneer is doing really well now and seems quite capable. I also see this as further validation of your dry tire test, and you have the Hyrax freed up for another rig if needed! My latest project is going to be finishing and painting a 3d printed body that a local guy printed for me. It's a 56 Ford truck from scale3drc and it's such a cool looking body! (though their model names are clearly designs to avoid running afoul with trademarks) 😂
I’m impressed. I like it & the white wheels look good. You are definitely right you don’t have to buy the most expensive RC’s to have fun & experiment. I have a Element Ecto on the way I’m going to look to see if you have a review on it. And any thoughts & first things to do or change on it. Thanks
Right on :) Haven't had an Ecto before, sorry. I have looked at one in person though and I see it's kinda kind the Gatekeeper in the rear and the Sendero in the front. I'd therefore expect a little more stability at speed on bigger bumps, but it's crawling ability will probably benefit from whatever you can do similarly to what we did with the Sendero. I'm sure it'll be a capable little beastie. Enjoy!
Those mods make a lot of difference. the truck has potential. Good thourough job. However, for us in Europe - it's maybe different for you in Australia-, it doesn't make much sense to puchase this model, as for 20 extra EUR, you get an Element Enduro Trail Hd.
Fair enough - though I wonder if it'd be as good a performer. I've not used one before. The Sendero outcrawls it but it's 20% more expensive (in Australia; good point).
@@bartbbb1046 I feel for you. Import policy can be tricky. In any case, I'll keep putting the car info out there and hopefully you can make use of some of it!
@@RCTNT Your video are really helpful and you show some nice trick that doesn't cost alot to make those tiny truck working great. Keep up the good work, and can't wait to see the stage 2 on the Enduro. Just start building mine ;)
Heh yeah, I have abandoned using music now unless it's really going to add to the video! Sorry to make you pause and wonder! (And thank you kindly for your support!!)
I probably won't - the Rescuer is more a trail truck with its open but lockable diffs, higher weight, way nicer body, etc. I see it as a general use fun machine. The Pioneer, on the other hand, was not a trail rig. Single speed, locked diffs, crawler geometry, etc. But it didn't crawl terribly well. I saw potential and worked toward realising it. Different rigs, different outcomes. I do have more videos upcoming with the Rescuer, but it'll be a different path to the Pioneer. Thanks for watching!
Hey Craig. Just been rewatching this video and I have a question about which upper link to remove. When I first got this truck I removed an upper link to make it look the same as my Sendero (that is that the remaining link is the one on the opposite side to the side that the pan hard attaches to the axle). But rewatching this video now I see you’ve done the opposite. I think in one of the earlier videos you say you swapped which link you removed. I’m pretty confused now. Is my Sendero wrong? Does it really make that much difference? Thanks for your time.
G'day Jim, I can't recall which one I removed, but I can tell you how to tell which one to remove, and why it matters. The latter first: if you get em mixed up, you'll get bump steer. (Look straight-on at the truck and compress the front axle suspension evenly. Pay attention to what the wheels are doing. If they steer a little to the side, that tells you the wrong upper link has been removed). The general advice would be to look at the side the panhard attaches on the chassis. Remove the upper link on that side, so the remaining upper link is attached on the other side of the chassis to the panhard. Test this by observing for bump steer. There shouldn't be any, if you've got it right (though the whole axle will shift a little to the side as you compress the shocks - a by-product of a panhard, but it's better than bump steer). Hope that made sense!
It's in the video before this one: ruclips.net/video/Ej3pgoTltWA/видео.html Can't recall off the top of my head what went in but probably a Holmes Trailmaster 550 21 or 27 turn. I cover it in that video anyway!
Hi Anthony, from memory the esc has a lipo/nimh jumper. You want it on lipo so it uses its low voltage cut-off, to protect the battery from being over-discharged. That's the only difference. Glad you're enjoying the car. It's really good eh!
It's a WP-1040 ESC so it has two jumpers. The inner one toggles fwd/rev and fwd/brk/rev (I'm pretty sure) and the outer one toggles lipo and nimh (the latter being the outer/RHS pins, lipo being the inner/LHS position). There should be a label on the sticker on the side of it, right under the pins, else look up the model online and see images for the label.
I think it's more the rear can't flex due to the angles involved. Just insufficient weight downward to make it go. If you watch most other rigs on problem 3 they're similar. That said, softer springs could help a bit, it's possible. We already found some advantage in letting them sag a bit with the mount hole change in an earlier video. Good thinking!
Unlikely at this point, my friend, sorry. However, I just had a look at it. It seems it's just a shorter wheelbase version of the Pioneer (285mm instead of 313mm). Good news - that means a lot of the mods we did on the Pioneer should transcribe neatly to the EX86010-CJ as well. I can guess at its performance - it'll do even better on the rough stuff than the Pioneer, with steep ascents and descents being really the only downside, where it'll struggle more than the Pioneer for traction and stability. Assuming we are discussing the same rig here, I bet it'll be a great little crawler! Let me know, if you have one :)
@@RCTNT No I dont have a crawler because i dont have that money. I just love crawlers those lovely land rover and jeep bodies. But its my luck that I cant have one. $300 is my fathers monthly income.
