    M.2 slot 2 Update. This works very well with my Cooler Master NR200P MAX. I have 2 additional fan at the bottom of my case set to exhaust. On the motherboard. There is a thermal pad between the chipset heatsink and the SSD at M.2 slot 2. I removed that. creating an airgap. The thermal pad that I removed, I placed it on the top side of the SSD on M.2 slot 2. Coz I noticed, that side of the Samsung 980 Pro have the copper heatsink. I said "why not expand the copper heatsink by adding another layer of thermal pad on it?". And it WORKS! The temp was reduced by 12 degrees.! Just to share.

    I build one just few weeks ago using a Cooler Master NR200P Max casing. And that really cooled down my i9 13000K. Everything is great with this motherboard even without the Thunderbolt feature. Except the heatsink for the M.2 slot 2. Using the Samsung Magician, I notice in an idle stage. The M.2 slot 1 temperature is around 39 to 42 degrees Celsius. But the M.2 slot 2 is around 61 to 65 degrees Celsius. So, my tip if you going to build a new pc using this motherboard. I suggest replacing the stock thermal pads with new ones in two types of thickness. I believed, the stock thermal pad is not touching the controller chip on the NVME drive as they are thinner than the NAND chips and DRAM. So tonight, I'm going to replace them.

      @@Jthe5th I have a updated post. I removed the thermal pad between the chipset heatsink and the M.2 slot 2SSD. Cutting any heat transfer from chipset to SSD. Creating an air gap. Then I placed the thermal pad on the Samsung PRO 980 SSD copper plate heatsink. And it works. It cut down 12 degrees.

    If I’m building in a Mini-ITX Z790 with 13th gen in mind, should I be looking for a board with bios flashback? It seems no board works out of the box with 13th gen and owners have to put in 12 gen CPU just to upgrade bios. I don’t have access to one so I’m thinking my only option is a board with bios flashback. Awesome content. Thanks for the video.

    When the Raid is active, on this motherboard no hard disk is recognized from Bios, this means that software like Acronis with USB Boot does not recognize any disk drive and therefore it is not possible to CLONE the startup disk. I have an open ticket with MSI where they tell me it's normal ! 😵‍💫

    I'm trying to replace an Asus Strix z690i with this motherboard? Has anyone tested all the m.2 slots on this board to check if all m.2 interfaces connect as x4? On the ASUS boards the daughter board is causing issues and renders on of the m.2 slots to run at x1 instead of x4. It also produces Hardware errors at runtime. It can be monitored in HWinfo64 as HVEA. Correctable PCIexpress error. One or two of these errors are fine but getting 100 each second is not. I got around this by downgrading the PCI 4.0 bus to a PCI Express 3.0 and that solved the hardware errors. I would be curious to know if the MSI z790i has any similar problems.

    • @mashextra
      @mashextra  Год назад

      hmm let me check. I used 1x gen 4 drives and 2x gen 3 drives so didn't notice this issue, I have a load of drives knocking around so I will have a play

    • @tibielias
      @tibielias Год назад

      @@mashextra My ASUS z690i easily kicks me back to PCIe x1 from x4 speeds when the PC is moved. x1 will not cut it for me. That will only deliver around 800 MB/s Read speed (and maybe write speed, I should probably check my results in Samsung Magican again) on the Samsung 980 PRO. In the MSI z790i board you'll find 3x M.2 slots. 2x PCIe 4.0 slots and 1x PCIe 3.0 m.2 slot. According to the manual the one on the back (m.2_3) and in the front bottom slot (m.2_1) can deliver PCIe 4.0 at x4 speeds (7000 MB/s read speed and around 6000 MB/s write speed when slotting a Samsung 980 Pro in either of these two slots. The m.2_2 sitting on the daughter board above the front m.2 slot can only do PCie 3.0 x4 speeds, which only grants you 3300MB/s read speed on the same m.2 Samsung modules.
