  • Olivia Jade Giannulli caught heat on social media after a redemptive appearance on a recent talk show in light of her parent’s participation in a college admissions scandal that resulted in them being sentenced to prison, and it has us asking, “Does she deserves a second chance?” Plus, we discuss whether parents should burden their children with financial woes.

Olivia would've done better if she used to Red Table Talk to announce a scholarship she funded w/ her allowance or something to give an underprivileged student a chance at higher education. She went on there asking for a second chance but hasn't done anything to deserve one.

In the UK this year, high school grades were given based on location, so you could be a straight A student but live in a poor neighbourhood, so you were automatically graded all Cs in line with others in your neighbourhood. If the system is set up against you, fraud isn't as objectionable. At least the lady of the elementary school child didn't have the best resources at her disposal, but Aunty Becky had access to the best tutors, the best admissions essay writers etc in spite of this she still committed fraud, just cos her daughter was lazy.

I 100% agreed with Jada’s mother yet I also feel a little bit bad for Olivia. I honestly think that stuff like this WAS normal in her circle. Her circle is not diverse, she grew up in wealth and privilege. She LITERALLY knows no different. If dad invites business colleagues into his home office to drink scotch and talk about yachts, that’s her normal. No normal person working under a company would be allowed to drink on the job like that and socialize with friends. If most of her friends parents paid for them to get into college, that’s her normal! It is highly possible that she really didn’t think what her parents did was out of the ordinary. People even joke (where I’m from) about drivers in my city having paid off their driving instructor to get their license lol. These things do happen! I really wonder how many more people this happens to but we don’t hear about it because they aren’t famous. I hope she learned her lesson though.

I don't even know if Olivia Jade is actually that ignorant and doesn't understand nor feel sorry for her mistakes, but that she hasn't been talked about in a while, so she went on Red Table Talk to have the spotlight on her again. She seems to be just like many influencers, "any attention is better than no attention".

My childhood is my mom and I, I didn't know really about money but I feel like she didn't really hide it from me plus how we lived, walked, ate, talked let me know it wasn't easy. I asked for stuff but her reply was always truthful when it was no. In my teenage years, I didn't ask for thing anymore because I understand more and knew our purpose but let me tell you when she proposed me a playstation, I didn't believe it for very very long time.... and the thing that I cared for first was if it will be okay for whatever budget we have, so yes I think it's an important lesson for kids but there's a way

I think an important lesson for parents is to apologize to their children for raising them poor. I had a miserable childhood and living in poverty didn’t make it any better. However, if I bring it up now, it’s always “you had a roof over your head and food”. Basically to be happy with the bare minimum. Children catch on quick about finances imo. Just hold yourself accountable and cherish your kids.

She is trying to earn a second chance by donating her time to under privileged kids. Do I think that a scholarship for an under privileged kid is a good idea, heck yes! Theres a lot of entitlement that came out of the college admissions scandel, and Olivias statement highlights another which is specific to her age group. A lot of kids her age and younger grew up in a time where everything they did was celebrated and they faced no real consequences for bad behavior. Its a problem that many teachers speak out against; the entitlement of gen z and gen alpha, who are hard to discipline because they think their opinions are law. Its ridiculous and something needs to be done about it.

They wanted me to be a kid but as soon as I personally felt old enough to work and make my own money, that's when they wanted to teach me how to be smart financially which meant telling me a bit more - they definitely did not and still do not tell me EVERYTHING but I can understand that coming from a parents POV.

I grew up in a poor family. I always knew that we did not have money and honestly, while of course that has some disadvantages as the ladies pointed out, it was better for me to know than to live in pure ignorance. I am romanian but moved to Spain when I was 4, and because I understood that we did not have money, I knew that we could not afford seeing my family in Romania (which I did not, for 6 years) and I appreciated the “little things” that my parents did more. Those were hard times but I am grateful for my parents and as Adrienne mentioned, being happy is the most important thing. Growing up and even now (my parents have been married for almost 19 years), my parents still flirt and are happy with each other and that laughter and our family memories are my favorite thing to live (as in continue having - i am sorry, i don’t know if that made sense) and remember :).

I don’t view privilege as a bad thing if people recognize it and do good in this world. It’s only a bad thing when they abuse it and she did more than abuse it, her family became criminals. This is more than the color of her skin getting her places or having money, they knowingly engaged in criminal activity when they pretended their daughter was something she wasn’t and the daughter went along with it. That’s wrong and more than just privilege. It’s like if a kid steals from a candy store it’s a crime and should be corrected. They knowingly stole from another person who deserved to be there more. It’s unforgivable and she needs to change the way she is from the inside.
