If you’ve ever tried to get help for struggles in your life related to childhood trauma - you may have been told, pressured even, to spend time and money talking about the past - even if you’ve talked about the past or years -- even when you don’t feel that’s the problem right now. and even if you’re desperate to work on present problems, so you can be happier. There's a time to talk about what happened and a time to work on present day problems. In this video I respond to a letter from a woman who feels ready to stop talking and get to work on changing her life.

I'm literally sitting here so happy to learn at the end of this video about your free daily practice method. I look forward to trying this. You are the first channel that I've ever come across that has really been spot on with my issues. Thank you!

I keep making the same mistake, I NEVER let people know what I want, I just assume they know, or SHOULD know, then I get disappointed and hurt and spend the next 10 years talking and bitching about it. It's all in the avoidance of rejection (which is BECAUSE of trauma) which leads to further trauma and rejection.

That's why I stopped seeing my therapist. I was so done talking about my trauma. I told her, I was so done, I didn't wanna talk anymore. I wanted solutions, was bored. She couldn't give me that so byeeee. This video came just in time.

YOU READ MY MIND!!! I woke up this morning with the strong thought, word for word, 'the time for crying is done, it's time to soar'

  • @sharonb519

I’ve been talking for 4 years now and it’s not any better.

  • @3506Dodge

It helped to talk for the first few months, but then it didn't anymore.

Cecilia -- I find the best way to meet new people is to volunteer for something that I care about. It may be an animal rescue, a charity art event, a river cleanup, or a political campaign.

  • @purplefireweed

I love this letter too, so eloquent and self aware. 💖 Making art, like being in nature is a healing path unto itself. For some, a life devoted to art may mean fewer intimate relationships, but ones that ARE meaningful. Your work and contribution to the larger world may or may not be appreciated during your lifetime. But the healthy regulation that creating art creates in body and spirit is a gift and makes us better able to show up in our lives even if we live better a bit removed from the hustle and bustle. A solitary-ish life can be healthy and sane.

  • @pdelaprimm

Amen, and sometimes one doesn’t know what, exactly, to do. I have done a lot of work, and have healed, integrated some - but often, I don’t really know what “to do”, except keep seeking, review most current “notes” and keep going.

What a lovely woman Cecilia is! Keep strong. Your letter touched my heart.

  • @laurie3113

Yup! I've done more healing by dancing, meditating and learning about my mind, using mindfulness. I've had terrible trauma therapists...and working as a group counselor now...I know when to tell a Client to speak to their Therapist.

  • @farfaraway97

"Speaking to paper", that is a beautiful, encouraged method of expressing self called 'sublimation'. Surprised the degree holder in psychology calls it escape, therapy culture needs not just a rethink but therapists need to be held accountable for what is their domain.

  • @byttercandy

    This letter is phrased beautifully!

  • @edithgarcelon5142

You are so right! I am proving this today: using my 'skill' to serve others. It is a miraculous process.🎶🦅

  • @YourgrandparentsfavRNMSN

Thank you 🙏🏽 meeting a new friend & reminiscing over our childhood memories about made me want to end it all in 2020 (post partum) I have C ptsd, ADHD, OCD & am a NP…now I really know moving fwd that I cannot endure these kinds of friendships.

  • @leonardcasteel6617

After therapy and meditation, opening to people a little bit at a time works. It is slow, only do what you. can do.

  • @nataliecunningham1482

I love your videos. They’re full of great insights and advice. And grace.

  • @justdawndb

Maybe its because I've lived in acknowledgment of all the trauma along with unintentional new trauma for so long, i really think trauma talk can be detrimental to one's health. I fully agree that secrets are bad and can even be deadly, people need to share the grief that trauma leaves behind...but talking about traumatic events really feels like reoffending, after a time.. I see people get all worked up time and again. I personally have had to stop doing that to myself. The hard thing is moving forward. The CCF membership sounds really ideal, its so nice to feel seen and accepted by others.

  • @kathydoe9287

What about praying 🙏 and music 🎶 that lifts my spirits tremendously ❤
