As a player, I absolutely adore Carolina Crown's hornline. But I have to say, it is so nice to be able to see that they don't have it good and perfect all the time. There will be times when they have to stop like in the video and it truly makes a huge impact for smaller drum corps to understand that no one is perfect and trust the process. Amazing work as usual Crown!
Maria Rossa it’s all a process weather it’s crown BD BAC Bloooo or Genesis they all work very hard at their craft. Difference is those top corps have the numbers, but yes they’re not perfect. No one is.
Right at 4:13 before he pushes them to the loudest part. He starts clapping and pointing at the phone (I recently discovered that it’s a decibel meter to see how loud they can get with a good sound), if you listen carefully enough, you can hear a very small crescendo into the big push. That just shows how BAD they wanted it. Absolutely amazing work. I will always be a fan of Crown.
@@hyun6490 i think it had to have been more than 110, humans can yell louder than that, and theres no way anyones voice is being heard over that. only reason you can hear matt talking is cause hes super close to the camera
1:46 the sound of the drums in the background sounds like a beautiful gunfire battle, idk how else to describe it but that with them tunning is just ❤️
As a drummer I must say. I FUCKING LOVE THIS LINE. Excuse my language, but damn they always sound so good. I know next to nothing about brass, but I love listening and appreciating them. It gives me goosebumps every time.
You can tell the guy leading the brass has a thing for what he does. And the group responds in kind. Amazing to watch and hear. Would love to see/hear it in person.
The chills that went through my body when the mellos hit that high concert F…oh my…I heard the chord before it and I literally said “please, mellos, hit me”
God i would give absolutely anything to be in a hornline again. I miss my summers in DCI. Nothing will ever come close to those hot humid but yet wonderful days with a corps
It is nice to know that the other-worldly sound that Crown produces during these tuning exercises requires effort and discipline. Honestly, I knew that already. Hundreds of hours of work go into shows and music and getting all of these brass instruments to sound like they do. So many talented individuals. Is it wrong for me to get excited about just the turning?
This guy is a true artist, what an experience to start with confusion and in the end harmony. I would love to hear this band live, keep up the good work!
It's wonderful to know I marched with Matt before he drum majored that last year with Star. I marched and played with the best but I am glad that we are not perfect. We have to keep getting there. That is always the goal. I never did reach my peak as a lead soprano player/soloist/horn captain, but I tried!!!! ⭐
One of my favorite things in band as a wee boy was tuning up; chorale. Simple to execute, warm chops and adjust. This has been my favorite DCI tuning up sessions. Clean and beautiful.
I remember tearing up when my small country high school band really hit a really good song. I remember one in marching season and one in concert season specifically. Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre was the concert season one. I’m 30 years old I’ll never forget. I wouldn’t be able to play in this horn line…. I’d be on the field cryin lmao. Frogs in my throat. This tuning sequence could bring anyone listening to tears but there’s something special about being a part of it with your group after all of the hard work. I wish I knew of an adult marching band, I’d join in a heartbeat! Best times of my life.
As a brass band player, this guy is absolute beast in balance, dynamics... And I think only the best brass band MDs are able to reproduce this intensity ! And the choral at the beginning of the tuning session is like pure British brass band tradition in warm up, and you can see how warm it is ! Absolutely stunning !
What I would've given to be part of this brassline. It wasn't my time to wear the Crown. I wasn't ready but maybe in another lifetime. These are truly the best of the best.
Was comparing the sounds of the trumpets from now and 17, I can hear the wowowowowow when they play apparently that’s how you know they aren’t in tune. Still sound better than anyone else though
@Tyler Harris yep you're right. The faster the wah's the more the intonation is off. But because of the nature of the human body, we can't hold notes forever so cutting off to take a breath and coming back in is gonna naturally create a little distortion also.
I watched/listened to this shortly after the initial version hit here and immediately thought...Wait until they get accustomed to Matt and each other. I have now heard the fruits of their labor...Matt - Don't you ever slow down. These kids sound amazing, and I'm sure you've got just a wee-bit more you can pull out of them. Kids - don't over-play or try TOO hard. Waves happen and that can ruin the entire sound of such a magnificent hornline. CC - Drop the Hammer!!!!
All well and good until you realize you're giving a standing ovation to a video...alone in your apartment....in the middle of the night (sorry neighbors) 🙃
"Is it cool if I'm right here" Nah I just set up here in front of Matt Harloff because I knew you'd sit literally right in front of me- seriously what kind of question was that?
Do you still practice at Charlotte? I was a member when Crown did Stormworks in 94 but unfortunately never really saw competition. I still learned a lot! # Stormworks
I don't know if there's a specific person, but I'm sure that if you use Musescore, keep your eyes open there, as "MOST" of CC music ends transpositioned there.
A warm up video has surpassed my 2013 head cam video proving our corps song is better than a world champion hornline 😂
*a carolina crown warm-up video
There's a difference
Dude I swear if 2020 didn't happen that was gonna be a crown year, I felt it.
As a player, I absolutely adore Carolina Crown's hornline. But I have to say, it is so nice to be able to see that they don't have it good and perfect all the time. Crown is still so good it's terrifying
Exactly what I was thinking. Great to see this aspect as well as them being absolutely incredible
If watching Matt pull that sound out of those kids doesn't make you emotional, you're dead inside.
Oh stop
@@Mrtellitlikeitis I try.... But...I.... Just..... CAN'T.
It is kinda terrifying, and absolutely awesome at the same time
As a former Blue Star myself I cannot help but enjoy videos like this. Crown’s line brings the goods and all the feels. FCO ✡️
makes me cry, its on william bilals black and blues level for me
The release is so clean that it sounds like they just sucked up the sound in a black hole. Really cool
Slightest inhale on the cutoff
Sounded a bit early to me.
It's not early if everyone's doing it at the same time
@@alphajlima that's honestly the secret trick to every cutoff

played brass on G bugles many, many years ago, Blown away by the talent that Crown has!! Matt brings out the best in Crowns hornline!
I miss the sound of the bugles but many corps sound fantastic today on modern brass.

0:45 to 1:30 is simply magical and makes you fall in love with Crown
Can you imagine how powerful it must sound sitting in the middle of that circle?!? Simply amazing musicianship!
“These damn trumpets.” The very words of every band director and drum major of a Drum Corp😭😭

From one crown bari to another, much love 💜
Really really nice releases...I bet they sound like attacks if played in reverse.
That mello high c at the end was amazing
When they got it fixed, it was FIXXXXXXEDDDD! Even a pipe organ has to be adjusted every now and then.

How's does a person get a chance to sit in the middle of this glorious burst of energy?
God bless the melophones!
Even being a lil off, those trumpets sounded good. They were just fighting each other a tad bit. That last note tho 😳💯
Takes a lot of work to get there. Well done!
Looking ahead to 2022‼️
I think their goal was 110 dB. Does anyone know how loud they actually got here?

wonderful, thanks
Do they invite people to sit in the middle to listen? I would like that very much.
