Garrett, I noticed her and the two guys she's with sitting in the first 5 rows of LOS during a drum major shot at finals. Can't recall which corps was on at the time.
I don’t pretend to know much about Carolina Crown. I’ve followed DCI (not truly dedicated, but as much as I could) since my senior year of HS in 93. This is the first time I have been moved to tears by anyone... ANYONE, from DCI. 4:33 pulled my heart from my chest. Learning more of CC, I can see that their recipe for success is in fact their Director. I challenge anyone reading this to aspire to his level of passion for his craft, his fervor for his work, but above all, his love for music. Carolina Crown, amazing.
Both him and his brother are amazing. I can tell you from personal experience that his brother Ben is the exact same way, they both move people in ways like nobody else can. Seriously amazing directors.
God. I can't imagine the feeling of actually getting to play that hammer drop at the end. Gives me chills and also could give me nightmares. Friggin excellent!!!
The brass hit here overwhelms me so much (in a positive way) that I'm literally crying. The emotion, the sound quality, and the layers of chords being played is just all so good and beautiful. If I'm ever having a bad day, or just in need of hearing some DCI, I always come to Crown. And I specifically come to this show. It may not be their best, but god damn was it so beautifully written for the brass and perc.
I'm unfamiliar with any brass instrument, as I play the piano. But that last little piece, or from what I hear people calling the "tuning sequence" was absolutly amazing. I got chills. I've watched the ending 10 times haha! Wonderful video!
Crown has the best brass in DCI, absolutely no contest. And if you get the chance you should see drum corps live, it's a completely different experience to watching videos.
The last loud hit was actually part of the show. The sequence was the chromatic dissonance into a concert Bb, when Matt would crank them up on the dissonant note. My high school actually kind of copied this from them this year lol
Awesome! Check out 2013 Carolina Crown's production of e=mc2. The brass section was spellbindingly good... the only brass section in DCI history to earn a perfect score. You'll enjoy this: ruclips.net/video/KjNTs6BR-9c/видео.html
I first watched this in 2017 during my freshman year of HS at a competitive parade only CA High School. This video popped up on my feed again. Watching this now as a member of the Carolina Crown baritone section hits a whole lot more. So excited for this summer!!! 👑
I’ve seen them do the hammer in person, these videos do not even come close to what it truly feels like to just have that raw power. It’s louder than I ever thought it would be and just so crisp at the same time
1. The doubles and triples are amazing. 2. From 4:00 to the end is gorgeous. 3. The climax chord at 4:32 is appropriately nicknamed. 4. Nothing beats a choral "amen" ending. Nothing. Except a Scooby Doo ending. 5. I finally have a visualization of the director 17yr old me wanted to be.....and after 43 years, is that the feeling of regret I feel? Quick. To the pub! I need to drown feelings! Thanks for posting.
Ive heard Crown warm up so many times, but something about 3:24 till the end brings me tears and goosebumps every single time I hear them. No other video, no other band. This brings me so much happiness.
My favorite thing to do is watch the facial expressions of people sitting in the circle, especially at the end. It's always fun to see the reaction of people that have never experienced this type of music.
Every single time I watch the end it gives me chills down my spine. I play marching baritone and I’m in the 9th grade and my dream is to march with an amazing drum corps in the future
Definitely. But it will take probably a generation to match that 2013 section. Just like it took until 2012 for 1991 Star to be matched, by Crown, then exceeded by Crown in 2013.
We were there and I promise you even as amazing as this video is, it does not do any justice to what really happened out there. I think one of the other corps stopped what they were doing because it was so loud you couldn't hear instructions.
I know Matt is looking back at the corps director after some of these run throughs, but there are times when he’s looking at us lucky folks to be in Military Park watching/listening to warmups with that “Did you hear that? Did you hear how freaking clean that was? I love my job” look on his face.
TheAbfromNJ from what I’ve heard and seen usually what happens Is their drill writing is sometimes crazy, because of that they usually have trouble making it clean like super clean while their tone and articulation is beyond amazingly clean other times it’s visevera and they have a hard time finding in the middle, a good example of finding a middle in between the two would be e=mc2. The drill wasn’t beyond crazy and the articulation wasn’t super impossible, examples of times where they couldn’t find a healthy medium between the two would be ootw they had amazing drill but the articulation was just too much with the type of drill they had and they sounded a little dirty, you can actually tell if you slow down the videos, not saying they have to be god level perfect and I’m not a judge but if you slow it down to .75 you can tell that they definitely had a challenge with ootw when it came to articulation I mean besides that nobody would notice but it’s just because the judges have amazing ears and eyes they are some how able to tell a difference.
Totally agree... Some of the licks their putting in newer shows are almost intentionally hard.. effect is lost at showtime if its not right on the money and when its 20 sops playing soft sixlet / 32nd runs at a decent clip trying to jazz step.. Getting that cleaned up to finals perfection is very difficult
I saw you at dci finals i walked like 2 inches away from you i wish i could've said hi but you were talking to someone. But I'm still glad i can say I've seen one of my favorite RUclipsrs in person.
It's truly none of my business to be commenting on this video; i have no ties to CC or DCI at all. But my grandfather was a trumpet player for his entire life. He was the musical heart of our family. I keep coming back to this video because 1. It's incredible, and 2. He would've *loved* this. He passed away recently, leaving me with one of his (many) trumpets, and this video makes me want to learn and play that last snippet so badly so that he can hear it.
The standard! Oh by the way, never believed in reincarnation until a few years ago. Star of Indiana reincarnated into Crown. Star is to Optimus Prime, as Crown is to Rodimus Prime.
Does anyone truly understand the genius it takes to make a horn line sound like an organ in the church?., not only that but also have it performed to absolute perfection granted that this is being played by instruments never designed for it
I'm not sure how 14 people disliked the video... my friend is deaf and said he could hear the shear sound and clarity of the horn line. I wonder if Crown's brass line would play at my birthday party? How much would it cost to arrange something like that lol
I think Little Fugue in G Minor was my favorite moment from 2017 tied with the Psychopomp Reprise in Bluecoats closer and Bird Set Free from Cascades closer
We are all on a timer that leads to a unstoppable force that takes us from everything we've ever know , loved or cared for . Just out of no where you are stripped from every form of happiness and joy sorrow or grief and your family is left with the task of burying your body so it can decay in a box and then the forget about your existence your thoughts and ever lasting impression in the world is forgotten and you are gone
I flagged the video as it violates RUclipss terms of service
pornagraphic content is NOT allowed on this site
I mean that and copyright infringement...
Valdez Music Exposure he videoed it how is it copy right it was a a public a event
This is why we can't have nice things.
When a clean brass instrument is considered porn for band kids lol
Hornographic content is exempt, yo!
And the seventh day, God said to build him a hornline... and then there was Crown Brass. And it was good.
+Craig VanVickle 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
"good"
Hmmmm I don't think good explains it I don't think fantastic or great or amazing could even explain crown lol
Ms. BrassyBariBone i think extremo insano does
Absolutely best comment ive seen in a long time XDD
It’s funny cuz the girl who says holy shit marched at Crown for 2 years but it still never gets old lol
Garrett Davis she did? Cool
@@PARABLLM It's funny cause when you're in the hornline it is definitely different from standing in front of it. Still fun as hell though.
She was in the front ensemble! It's honestly a whole different world INSIDE the circle.
Garrett, I noticed her and the two guys she's with sitting in the first 5 rows of LOS during a drum major shot at finals. Can't recall which corps was on at the time.
4:22 is probably the cleanest entrance I've ever heard
All thanks to breathe dah
you can see the girl in the bottom left mouth "holy shit" to her friend
That chord at 4:32 where the trumpets hit that g# is probably the saddest chord I’ve ever heard. It makes me think of a dying hero.
Jose Hernandez Makes me want to cry lol.
Do you know what chord that is?
coconutlimebreeze damn forgot I left this comment. I believe it was a B flat minor 7
@@tortillajoe thank you 😄😄
Lol harloff called that chord the "Money chord"
Star of Indiana still lives
Indeed!
Reading this as they played the hit actually made me cry

Go listen/watch in person.
Ah yes the money chord
I’m in my sophomore year of highschool right now and this always moves me anytime I hear this
Both him and his brother are amazing. I can tell you from personal experience that his brother Ben is the exact same way, they both move people in ways like nobody else can. Seriously amazing directors.
"It's not loud. It's just.. warm."
Fast forward-->
"HOLY SHIT!"
Best hit in DCI this last season.
God. I can't imagine the feeling of actually getting to play that hammer drop at the end. Gives me chills and also could give me nightmares. Friggin excellent!!!
+Ken Real it's amazing dude!
That chord change at 4:32 has me WEEEAAAAAAK
Money chord.
Matthew Knowles I want that chord playing at my funeral haha!
And 9th chord by the Hi brass
Deceptive Cadence!
3:16 guy on the right -- in the words of Dylan Hyman- It's not loud, it's just warm
God i miss dylan
Some of the wisest words from our high school brass tech..

Codeemannn they always blow my mind ahhhhh
hturt4 ahhhh the show gets me everytime
I believe those Myagi cords at the end are still ringing in Indianapolis. FLAWLESS BRASS VICTORY!!!
+Sky Writer 😂😂😂🔥🔥
That Little Fugue in G Minor really hit home with me. It reminded me so much of Canadian Brass.
I first watched this in 2017 during my freshman year of HS at a competitive parade only CA High School. This video popped up on my feed again. Watching this now as a member of the Carolina Crown baritone section hits a whole lot more. So excited for this summer!!! 👑
Y’all are gonna rock this season!!
Words can't describe how that tuning sequence made me feel, but there are tears in my eyes and a big smile on my face.
You just have to be amazed. They have no equals. And somehow they get better every year. Way to go to Dci's top brass!
This is the best hornline of all time.
Wahl95 crown 2013 is imo
*second best. Crown 2013 has no competition.
Never have/never will be on the crown 13 train, this, crown 12, and scv 18 are the greatest to ever do it
I can’t tell you why this makes me cry... all I know is I’m happy when I do it
I’ve seen them do the hammer in person, these videos do not even come close to what it truly feels like to just have that raw power. It’s louder than I ever thought it would be and just so crisp at the same time
I saw you twice outside of lucas oil stadium. Should've said hello, lol
Nolan O ugh I've never been but I wanna go
You cannot truly appreciate the power and perfection of Carolina Crown horn line unless you were a band nerd 🤓🎺
I don’t need to be a band nerd to hear the fucking beauty playing through my phone
As great as the ending sequence is, holy shit dat triple tongue doe!
at 4:24 the girl on the left: "oh shit"
Understandable
+All Might's #1 Fan 😅😄😄
Lmao
4:24 you can see the girl on the left mouth "holy shit" 😂

What is a Scooby-Doo ending?
“Bansai “ is an action that expresses joy or celebration in Japanese.
He wrote Bansai in kanji on his head.
I don't get how 2 people could dislike this... awesome tuning sequence and it gives me chills every time I watch this.
Did Matt say "BONZAI" for the hit while wearing that bandana?😂😂
Joshua R. i believe so. it fits him well
Joshua R. Yeah he did
Joshua R. Hai...
only one Mc_savage_Pancakes It’s the rising sun
i thought he said “bombs away”
4:33 is the voice of GOD
2022 and I still love this as much as the first time I heard it.
CC is the result of fantastic and obsessed staff with fantastic and obsessed students... it's like a dream to be part of that machine.
I have listened to the Tuning sequence hit 1000 times now
Incredible. The last one gave me goosebumps.
Years later and this still brings me to tears.
This literally took my breath away, I love a good brass line
im addicted to this vid..
Ive heard Crown warm up so many times, but something about 3:24 till the end brings me tears and goosebumps every single time I hear them. No other video, no other band. This brings me so much happiness.
Jesus Christ, haven't smiled this big in a cool minute
their closer is the best, still listening to it til this very day
Just watched that for the millionth time and I go chills big time. Haha
Like a church organ.
ESPECIALLY at 4:37. So incredibly balanced that it literally sounds like a pipe organ.
Yes!!!
My favorite thing to do is watch the facial expressions of people sitting in the circle, especially at the end. It's always fun to see the reaction of people that have never experienced this type of music.
Derrick Andrew same...
I'm about to cry lmao this was so good
The emotion that the hit at 4:23 brings me is indescribable
0:27 the tuba part was so clean!
I just loved the reaction of the people listening to this roaring sound.. go Carolina !!!!!!!!!!
Who would dislike this perfection
This brass line every single year is insane.
this is batshit crazy clean
Every single time I watch the end it gives me chills down my spine. I play marching baritone and I’m in the 9th grade and my dream is to march with an amazing drum corps in the future

2009
2002 was better :/
Being technical, the 2013 hornline is the best hornline ever,, (at least for crown i forgot if bd got perf music in 2014 or not) so,,, yeah
BONZAI
I would’ve been on my damn feet applauding the hell outta this!!!

holy crap at 4:33 wow the best sound ive heard ever in a warm up line low brass woowww amazing i shattered tears from heaven
I seriously listen to this every single day before work to get amped up and destroy things.
My duck pimples have goosebumps!!
4:24 lmao the girl goes "holy shit"
Does this hornline have a single weakness of any kind? I don't think there's anything they can't do flawlessly.
TheAbfromNJ other than the unfortunate side effect of decimating my eardrums, no. None.
Beat scv

Gosh I was I had him composing when I was in band! His energy is amazing.
i love the 359 likes and 0 dislikes xD
Beautiful!!!!
That is what I call best brass.
what an amazing hornline.
Wow! That’s awesome; love it! Never gets old.
The standard! Oh by the way, never believed in reincarnation until a few years ago. Star of Indiana reincarnated into Crown.
Star is to Optimus Prime, as Crown is to Rodimus Prime.
Jason Grabowski Yep
Jeff Menendez did star have really good brass?
Gabe Lacy High Brass in 1990-1993, listen to those shows, Harloff marched Soprano from 90-92 I believe and DM in 1993.
4:32 P O R N.
Yup thats the money chord
So freaking beautiful 😭❤️
Does anyone truly understand the genius it takes to make a horn line sound like an organ in the church?., not only that but also have it performed to absolute perfection granted that this is being played by instruments never designed for it
4:17 to the end sounds like the second coming. Powerful is an understatement.
By far my favourite Crown tuning sequence
4 years later, and I still come here for my money shot and "bonzai" regularly.
BANZAAAIII!!!!!!
😍😭 The ending hit actually gives me chills
we do the warm up with the cut-off-except-one-section thing. it’s cool
And that’s the reason Jim Ott lives in Carolina 😍🔥
I feel music just the same way that Matt Harloff does; on a sweeping, intense, molecular level.
And that's why they are top brass.
Absolutely fantastic
God I love overtones so freaking much
Who disliked this? Someone needs to beat some sense into them
This is why I love Carolina Crown
I'm sorry, am I listening to Carolina Crown or Star of Indiana?
jason grabowski both combined😂
Star of Indiana 2.0!!! 😂
The ending gives me goosebumps everywhere
4:31 - the moment when the Universe discovered what an eargasm truly was

“my friend is deaf” “he could hear the shear sound and clarity of the horn line.” What?
@@sceu25 they're just that good
From now on, any time somebody asks me why I like music so much I am going to show them the last minute of this clip with good headphones!
4:25 guy on his knee in the top left, thanking the gods LOL
Anyone else see the girl mouth "holy shit" when they came in on the hit, because me too.
Why does this make me cry?
I think Little Fugue in G Minor was my favorite moment from 2017 tied with the Psychopomp Reprise in Bluecoats closer and Bird Set Free from Cascades closer
this is what imagine gabriels horn sounds like
My high schools marching tech is there I see him in the vid he's a euphonium
Are you from ENHS? I'm assuming you're talking about Edgar. I know him, too. I go Pioneer HS
Emmanuel Acevedo I am from enhs
Cool, so are you are talking about Edgar
Emmanuel Acevedo yes I was!!
Those contras at 1:28 😳

“That was totally wicked!!”
