      Unreal marketing deal with a song commissioned by Vic Firth. Congrats.

    • @Jimmy2e_
      @Jimmy2e_ 6 лет назад +22

      The song was commissioned for a music festival, not by Vic Firth. Andy Akiho is just a Vic artist.

    • @jesuspectre9883
      @jesuspectre9883 6 лет назад +11

      The video version of Know One displays Vic Firth's logo. Did the logo just accidentally appear because Akiho's a Vic Artist? ruclips.net/video/ZgMXo7ShO_U/видео.html . No, of course not. The music was selected because of Crown's professional and personal relationship with their drum supplier, and because Crown likes Akiho's music. Not because it fits in with any overall show concept. That's the problem. Personally, I love the music, but it didn't lend itself to a cohesive overall show concept, that's why the designers chose a disparate, abstract art show/jukebox format to justify why the pieces didn't tie together, and that's why Crown took third. Not because "the feet were dirty" and not because the "drum line wasn't clean." Please.

    • @Jimmy2e_
      @Jimmy2e_ 6 лет назад +28

      I personally disagree with the statement that it didn't fit into the show concept (I think it was the most effective piece from the show, tbh), especially based on the design team's reasoning to pick the piece. Their reasoning has nothing to do with the fact that Akiho is a Vic Firth artist, and more to do with the fact that an avant-garde percussion ensemble piece is a very good closer to a show about deconstruction. Multiple other (non-VF) drum corps have used his pieces in the past. I am aware that we got nailed in GE and not execution.

    "I cringed at the I KNOW YOU part." "The singing ruined it." Honestly, I used to be the same. I wasn't a fan at 1st, but then, she kinda grew on me. Beautiful and talented woman she is. The theme is progression, which is why they included her. It's a very well put together show. Much improved percussion section, still amazing AND award winning brass. ;) I'm the biggest Bluecoats fan you'll ever meet, but Crown has my respect. If you're reading this, and marched Crown. You're amazing and are apart of something great. :-)

After watching this they announced the band's which advanced into finals and we were there coming out as the sixth best out of 33 bands . I was so overjoyed and now I carry around a Carolina crown hat where ever i go because for me they are good luck this drum corp will always mean so much to me I hope they do well in the 2018 season. There’s a surprising amount of people that disliked the singing wow. I thought maybe one or two people but not like half of the comment section. Don’t hate but I like the singing. It adds the shock value. You’re already thinking “wow they took the lines off the football field, wow this is really good” and then the vocals come in and is like “wow okay.”

    • @jssherrard
      @jssherrard 6 лет назад

      I thought she was awful. I work with vocalists professionally and her technique is underdeveloped, her breath support is weak, and her tone is all over the place. Carolina Crown's brass (well, all their musicians really!) are simply too good to be upstaged by a mediocre student vocalist who can't sing in tune. I loved their opener, but the show falls apart once it gets to the vocals and it never recovers. I'm hoping 2018 will see CC learning from their mistakes and putting their best foot forward!

    This is perfection! This is the show that was missing during finals week. It feels so tight. I wonder why they weren't able to be this fierce during performance. If this would have been what they showed up at finals with they might have won it all. I wish the electronics were just taken out. I can tell that there is something missing and I think that is electronics. This practice performance is fantastic. That guard is still suspect though. If there is something important that I am missing someone point it out because what I hear and see is wonderful. I have a feeling that what is missing is some sort of pit something or other someone educate me. Oh, and, spank me with that horn-line!

      The show design is what makes a finals score, not whether the flams were tighter than last night. Design wise, this was an exquisite corpse of random elements. Just awful, design wise. Completely random and mismatched tunes. Ghastly. Beautifully arranged, sung, played and executed.

      Jesu Spectre dude. I know you said all of this a week ago. But for God's sake this shit's fucking genius.
      You take a bunch of well known, classic charts, mess with them a little bit, and you have the first half of the show.
      For Good? Lyrics literally say "because I knew you, I have been changed for good." Hence the field.
      NOTKO's fucked up. Just like the field. Changed. For good. Because 'i know you'
      Does this help you get where we were coming from?

      You cannot be telling the world that Crown's Charlatan designers intentionally chose these three pieces based on gossamer-thin lyrical associations like "I know/knew you" and "changed for good?" wrapped around a loose theme of deconstruction? I literally cannot breathe. That is shockingly reckless and amateurish. I'm a man, and I'm literally sweating under my breasts at the thought of this shallow, patchwork, slap-dash, capricious concept. How in fucking hell did you brainwash the marching members to get them to buy into it? There's no humanity. No meaning. No "there" there. Appalling. Masterfully executed burning diapers. Third place.

    Marched with Crown in 1993 through the winter then got a call to go to the Bluecoats and was granted by Kevin Smith the director then the opportunity to make me age out year with a Top 12. Thank you to Crown for allowing me to both be a marching member for a short period and to allowing me to move to a top 12 when I was called. I will always be a lover of Crown and it is hard when these two corps Blooo and Crown are so close in competition now.

    I want to say thank you that 25 years ago Crown was willing allow me to be a member in 1993 for the winter camps. I was given the last chance opportunity to march my age out year with a Top 12 corps the Bluecoats. I am ever so thankful and grateful to the staff of then Carolina Crown for teaching and mentoring me. I am a better musician and person for all of you. Every year even though my heart is with my Bloo brothers and sisters a piece of my heart is still all crown. I love all of you even though I have felt for years that I let you down in 1993 please know I'm a fan and always will be of all you do.

    • @kylehenson5740

      That's exactly how I felt. She's an extremely talented singer. But her voice didn't blend well with the such a POWERFUL hornline. I for one would have loved to have heard the ballad without the singing. For Good is a such a beautiful piece and the brass arrangement was amazing. But the singing, as good as it was, took away from arguably the best hornline in all of DCI

      After Listening enough times though, the vocals begin to add the bridge of humanity to the music I think. Like the theme of the show is conveyed really well with her singing and vocals during the last half of the show, especially with the intense "I KNOW YOU" at 11:15 and the immense dramatic hit that follows. I personally think the vocals may have been overused, but they helped convey what Matt Harloff and his Guys were going for. Crown has always been one for their proficiency in music, so its not that they included the abundance of the vocals unintentionally.
      P.S. : This is their best show when it comes to music so either way this show is mind blowing!

    The "for good" singing bit was well done. The futuristic shit after it... no need for that. It was cool but a little overkill. Horns were moving and could have been slightly more utilized. Singer is excellent should have had less parts. Sometimes less is more. This is the only singing performance I've ever enjoyed in DCI so I'm not hating on it. Well done. My personal fav piece from this year's offerinfs

      Contrarily, I think it was unnecessary in the ballad, but worked well in the closer. The closer is based on Andy Akhio's "NO one To kNOW one", where vocals are used intermittently and are very short and intense, just like they are in the closer of It Is

      I cringed because it simply made no sense. It didn't relate to the previous piece, other than "Because I know you, I have been changed for good." Other than that, this show was a random jukebox format (in this case, a gallery walk-through), a weak show concept which never holds together, and never wins. Beautifully performed, however.
