  • French version of Les Misérables, original concept album. I don't own anything, all belongs to the creative geniuses of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil.
    MENDIANTS
Donnez, donnez, belles Dames, jolis Messieurs
Donnez, donnez, belles Dames, jolis Messieurs
Donnez, donnez, belles Dames, jolis Messieurs
    THENARDIER
    Répétition, chacun son poste
    Babet, Claquesous, en place
Toi, Montparnasse, tu fais le guet
    Avec 'Ponine, faites bien gaffe
    J'ai pas envie, non, de r'voir l'maton
    J'y fais d'abord mon numéro

Waouh....

I like this Gavroche. He sounds more raw, like he could actually be a street kid, not the charming little boy some productions use.

    • @rationaltrekker2509
      @rationaltrekker2509 4 года назад +29

Yes, his raw anger is projected in his voice. There's nothing cute or sweet about Gavroche in this version. He's a hardened street kid and Fabrice Ploquin nailed the performance. I speak Spanish and I can pick up quite a bit of the French, but not all of it, from that. From what I can pick up, the lyrics are also much more raw, reflecting Gavroche's life on the streets of Paris, having been kicked out of the house by his parents, the Thérnardiers.

I love that they didn't originally have Marius giving the Lamarque speech with Enjolras. Much truer to the book that way.

I definitely agree. The boy playing Gavroche, was 12 in an interview I saw, if I caught it correctly (I speak Spanish and had to use that to pick out French). He has a powerful voice and injects the raw anger and confidence I would expect from a kid who was kicked out just for being a boy, but learned to survive on the streets.

  • @ianwestc
    @ianwestc 14 лет назад +20

I agree, I think this is the best Gavroche I've ever heard. In all the English-language, he's a bit too cute, both in manner and singing style. This Gavroche has an edge to him.

  • @WillowLackett

this has much darker feeling and much more grungy emotion than in the english version

    • @Sawrattan
      @Sawrattan 7 лет назад +9

Willow Lackett it feels more aggressive than even the French 1991 version... partly because of the 80s electric bass sounds and also gavroche sounds like a real child thug in this one

    • @rationaltrekker2509
      @rationaltrekker2509 6 лет назад +13

Yeah, the kid in this recording is amazing and captures the anger of Gavroche. It's not explicitly stated in the play, but in the book, Gavroche is the son of the Thérnardiers. He was kicked out when he was like 7 just for being a boy. Later his two little brothers suffer the same fate. He ends up caring for them but they don't know they are related. They capture a little of this in the movie where they show the big hollow elephant the they sleep in.

    Mais d'puis qu'on a raccourci l'autre
    Versailles, ça manque plutôt d'ambiance"
"I have to set free the high society
It's not Versailles for the elegance
But since we shortened the other guy [Louis XVI]
    Versailles really lack of atmosphere"
This version of Gavroche is absolutly the best with my pov. He doesn't have just a raw and beautifull voice but really deep lyrics when you think of it. He doesn't see the world like a child, he lives in the horror of an adult world, he has this black humor and sarcasm and he sees politics like an adult but i don't think that's maturity just a shell, a shield to face the destitution....

Louis XVI was an absolute monarch, just like his successors, Louis XVIII and Charles X. The last bourbon Monarchs, Henri V and Louis XIX were not crowned, much like Louis XVII. Henri V ruled for only seven days. Louis XIX had the shortest reign in history, lasting only twenty minutes before he too, abdicated. Louis-Philippe, while called King of the French, was the first (and really, only) Constitutional Monarch of France.

Wow, such strenght in this version. This is amazing. Wow *mind blown* and multuple eargasms once gavroche started to sing... Simply amazing, he has such strenght in his voice.
Wow, Enjoras is amazing in this version aswell. Also very strong voice.
This entire song has so much power in french than it has in the english version, the english isn't bad tho, it's excelent aswell. But this one tops it of by far.
I love les miserables. And greetings from sweden.

    Translation:
Beggars: Give us, give us, give to the poor beggars.
To give, to give, is to serve the Lord,
Give us, give us, ladies and gentlemen.
To give, to give, is to earns one's place in heaven.
Gavroche: Bonjour, Paris, it is I, Gavroche!
Here is my family, here's my home,
Nothing is in my hands, nothing in my pockets,
Everything is in my heart of song,
I have no money, but what matters it?
I see clearly throughout the night,
    From la Glaciere to Belleville,
    And from Montmartre to Montsouris
The timid, the big shots, follow me, follow the guide!
Beggars: Give us, give us, give to the poor beggars.
To give, to give, is to serve the Lord,
Give us, give us, ladies and gentlemen.
To give, to give, is to earns one's place in heaven.
Gavroche: People from the upper classes must be freed,
It is not Versailles for elegance,
But since we have squeezed the other,
In Versailles it's hard to breathe,
It's more than the devil at the Tuileries,
We must be smarter than the locksmith,
I like his trade, I like his effigy,
Minted on all of these coins.
Long live me, not the king! Ca ira! Ca ira!
Enjolras: Fortunately for those upper classes,
There is one who looks out for us,
    Only one man, General Lamarque
Who speaks for us here sometimes,
Lamarque, they say is very ill,
How long has he left to go?
With all the rioting in Paris,
The city is become like a volcano,
    Ready to at last erupt
    In the fires of Revolution!
Gavroche: The leader of these rioters
    Is Thénardier, from Montfermeil
That his tavern is left over there,
For in Paname, there's no more sorrel,
He makes all his family work for him,
Even his Eponine, Gavroche in petticoats,
Whose heart falters not for a round.
It may be scarce for food, and too cold,
But at least, I am not bored.
Beggars: Give us, give us, give to the poor beggars.
To give, to give, is to serve the Lord,
Give us, give us, ladies and gentlemen.
To give, to give, is to earns one's place in heaven.
Thenardier: I repeat, each to their own position,
    Babet, Claquesous, to your places,
    You, Montparnasse, keep its watch
    Be careful with 'Ponine,
I do not want to see her harmed again,
Nor do I want to miss my chance,
Here comes a man who is a mishmash,
If he has a heart, two money that weeps there
    That shouts bravo, again, bis
This is where we hit hard,
    At the casks themselves.
Mme. Thenardier: Here is the student who comes
    Our deprived neighbor
    Of a rich grandfather
And who doesn't want to let him go.
    Marius: Bonjour, Mademoiselle Eponine,
    What are you doing there?
    Eponine: Things that morality represses,
So that we will have food to eat.

Not directly, from what I can tell. His third verse might be interpreted as alluding to the fact. He is talking about Eponine being used by her father to catch "pigeons" and calls her "Gavroche in a skirt." It's a stretch to said this means that he (Gavroche" is related, but it might be understood as a subtle allusion to the fact. That whole verse - by the mere fact that he knows Thérnardier so well, might also be understood as alluding to his relationship to them without saying it outright.

go for the edge!Gravache is NOT cutesy. Any kid who deliberitly goes and stealsbullets from dead soldiers in an ACTIVE WAR ZONE is not cutesy. He is the rejected son of ternardier, the brother who has just seen his sister shot and killed. He lives on the streets, he is father to his brothers, he Is jack Dawkins (The Artful Dodger) from france. but less artsy and more dodger. and he has nerve and plenty of it.

Great choice of pictures for each change in the song. Reminds you just how grim the original novel is (especially at 3:56 onward). Where did you get these pics?

Sawrattan most of them are illustrations, either from the original French novel or the first English translation.

@ShishaNoSasori Luckily there are men in higher places/ who look at those lower!/ There is general Lamarque/ who talks of us now and then./ It seems he is truly ill./What shall we do when he goes?/With riots already brewing/ Paris resembles a vulcano/Ready to spew out the lava of its anger/ Finally revolutionary!
Not entirely literal, but you get the idea :-)

Isn't "fraiche" a slang word for money though? So it would be "By a grandfather who has a lot of cash/ And who doesn't want to leave him any".

Do they mention Gavroche being related to the Thenardier family in this version?

I wonder why they made gavroche a street urchin?
In the book he’s a thenardier. Eponine’s younger brother.

I think an hour is a bit of an exaggeration... also, let's not forget the English version ADDED some of the most well-known songs such as "Stars", "Empty Chairs", and "Bring Him Home", plus the Prologue.
