Such rarity needs to be shared with all fans of Les Miserables. I love how this documentary was filmed on 16mm film in a very cinematic fashion. Wished we had a full version of the entire original French production.
The composers are so young in this french behind the scene film before the opening of the french production of Les Miserables.
the thénardiers in this look legitimately terrifying, wow. i really wish they'd kept more elements of the original design in the later versions.
They went for more comic relief in the English Universal version, or else it have been too intense for non French audiences. In the Books he was not a buffoon.
Gavroche is also a lot more rough here, the whole concept is grimmer than the English version including the orchestra.
May Maurice Barrier, Rose Laurens, and Marie-France Dufour, etc in the cast who have died rest in peace.

Robert Marian was the star of the French production of les mis as Valjean.

Trevor Nunn has said that this version ends on the barricades. In fact he is incorrect, it ends with Valjean's death just like the West end versions. I wonder why he would say that?

Maybe it's stupid to ask, but how did they manage to do it so well without head set microphones in the 1980s. Was there such technology back then?
