- French version of Les Misérables, original concept album. I don't own anything, all belongs to the creative geniuses of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil.
MARIUS
Rouge, mon sang tourne à l'envers
Rouge, mon sang tourne à l'envers
Noir, mon amour désespoir
COMBEFERRE
Allons, Marius, tu exagères
L'amour fait souvent des manières
Mais il ne t'abandonnera pas
Il sait bien que tu es sincère
Il exaucera ta prière
Et demain tu la retrouveras

It's so weird that the song so well known as "Enjolras's song" in the finished musical was originally Marius's.
Because as a fandom we exclude Marius because... bro.
the song is still Marius's in the english ver. it's just that they added Enjolras's response to Marius's verse. I agree the fandom's too quick to dislike Marius, but this song isn't a reflection of that. Or Enjolras is too perfect and his light confines Marius to the shadows
Hehe, I love Combeferre. He's just like,
"Geez, Marius, you're totally overshooting it!"
Yeah honestly most of their voices were exactly what i thought they were in the Brick, especially Enjolras and Gavroche
As a Frenchman I like the english version better, because this one is too focused on Marius and his feelings, whereas the english version manages perfectly to intertwine those and the revolutionary anger of Enjolras and the rest of the ABC crew.
Also I hate the musical phrase "Sans elle, loin d'elle, malade d'elle", completely soppy, it was a great move in the english version to have gotten rid of this anticlimatic part that decreases the tension and epicness who are building up in the english version.
I think it's because it's the concept version, so it definitely has its flaws. However, this version follows the book a lot closer, which is the reason why I love it so much! Marius does become quite an idiot after he meets Cosette in the book... so the song aptly shows the transformation. However, I always wished the musical showed Marius before he met Cosette because he used to be such a role model... His relationship with his father and his ideals were so admirable! And then Cosette came along...
Since it's the concept version, it also shows you how the composer viewed the book, which is so interesting!
I envy you for being French. I'm currently trying to learn French, just because of my love of French literature, and it really isn't going well... What is up with French grammar?
Arthur Leroy totally agree.
I'm desagree perhaps because I'm French but the first story les misérables si wrote by Victor Hugo à french author
But
it' s according to the book
Marius has almost nothing to do with the revolution, il est vraiment malade d'elle...
as a Canadian ya this is one of the few songs in the musical that is better in English than in French
Thank you for posting the songs of the original Les Misérables. I always wondered if it was much different from the "international" version.
Merci encore
There are some things I like better about the original. For example it can be a lot more poetic. But the adaptation works better as a coherent whole
I like to think that it's the musical equivalent to the "To be free" line in the book.
Both times Ferre just shuts Marius down. Me love Ferre-bear.
When I start taking French next year, I'm pretty sure that the teacher will ask if anyone has any experience with French, and I'll raise my hand and say, 'I speak Les Mis fluently.' Can't wait. ;)
Your comment was one year ago... So did you do it? How did it go?
Eager to know.
I second Arthur and Eu, Coruja - did you keep at learning the french lyrics and deliver the punch line? How did it go?
Vas-y! Reponds stp! ♥
Now it is 5 years. 😧 time is fast.
Kate Bishop i
Equaliment ❤❤
My pleasure. :-)
Magnifique....
this version is better than the version of 2012 movie
J'aime.
Merci pour la musique.
J'aime cette chanson! ♥
Love it!
Love this.
LIBERTE! EGALITE! FRATERNITE!
c'est beau :)
Bon, maintenant c'est clair pour moi. Plus qu'avant, je dis. 'Ferre, je t'aime
mais j'aime tellement
This is actually how I imagined brick!Enjolras' voice... too bad this is Mari-ass.
my thoughts exactly
Kind of...? The way the book described him with his baby blue eyes and soft golden curls... (Maybe that's just me?) xD
And the "I can't date you, sorry, I'm married already. To France" attitude!
But I always thought he would have a strong voice too b/c he is the leader of the revolution because of his public speaking skills. He is described to be a very strong and passionate leader. Grantaire (spoiler) even goes so far as to ask for permission from Enjolras to die... If you are a Grantaire x Enjolras fan, I suggest you read that part before bawling your eyes out at their deaths.
And then there's Marius. I always thought he would be this uptight guy... not a romantic. He was described in the book to never have liked a girl before Cosette, blushing whenever a girl smiled in his direction b/c he thought they were making fun of his tattered clothing rather than admiring his good looks... When he finally fell in love, he wore his best suit with a red rose and sat on a park bench close to where Cosette was sitting and didn't say a word for pages... and other people were like "woah! Where do you have to be today? Do you have a test?" b/c they never thought he would be in love...
And how he is about money! Oh my gosh! I used to live to his principle that "debt is the first step towards ruin" and never borrowed money from anyone... before realizing what a mistake that was.
Sorry... fanatical Les Mis fan... xD
wow
j ai toujours aimais le talent :)
I can't understand a word they're saying, but I love it anyways!
marius'voice is Richard Dewitte, Enjolras': Michel Sardou, Combeferre's: Salvatore Adamo and Courfeyrac's voice is Claude Michel Schonberg!
I love this Marius’s voice! Young and full of emotion!
Thirteen years of French class at school…

Dammit no Enjolras! This is where I prefer the English version
That one bar at about 1:06 where the notes take a dip drives me nuts.
"Ferre-bear"? lol :) me too
@wordsayers well french isn't my native language either but looks good :P

J'aime Enjolras xD
I don't think Enjolras is in this version. :P
@CaelahBethyBear EGALITE !
Rouge mon sang tourne à l'envers
