      All the responses are actually correct.
      1. The Nguni group became light skinned because of interbreeding with the Khoi San who were light skinned and not necessarily with the Europeans. The Europeans then interbred with the same Khoisan and so what you find is a unique variation of mixed race people who are referred to as coloured people. Even within that group, they don't all look the same based on what the interbreeding lineage is. ie (Khoisan and White or Khoisan and Nguni (Xhosa,Zulu), Malaysians slaves also interbred with the Khoisan and the Europeans thereby creating an additional variation within this group. Today coloured people have the largest genetic variation of any group of people in the world.
      2. We are also lighter because of the relative distance from the equator.

    HI guys, thank you for being so open minded about receiving the information on South Africa, you are appreciated. There are a few corrections that need to be made here though, information omitted or not correct. Most white South Africans are English speaking as a first language, not Afrikaans. White, Coloured, Black, Chinese, Indian etc where all segregated by the Afrikaaners, not by a voting system, just an overnight segregation program. My gran grew up in a multi-racial community, people mixed, married etc until the Afrikaans controlled government enforced more and more segregation rules. However, religion was never touched, so if you were Catholic and went to a convent school, all the private schools, churches were multi-racial. White South Africans were segregated by neighborhoods, schools, churches, universities etc, English and Afrikaans did not marry. The English were seen as far to liberal for the Afrikaaners, a great deal of animosity due to the BOER War. Apartheid existed for 48 years, not 50. Mandela went to jail for being part of a bombing in a business district during Apartheid, detail omitted. Also, the government of South Africa owns 70% of the land in the country, factually inaccurate. If white people were caught n areas outside of their own, they were considered communists and put on watch lists and would end up in jail or would go missing. The Afrikaans Apartheid government took all the segregation models from the States, UK etc at the time, and utilized these models, an example being 'homelands,' the same as the reservations of Native Americans. We were then, in my parents and my generation taught ALL of the UK and American history as regards to slavery and segregation as part of a 'subtle' indoctrination of a nation that had not originally been racist, class distinction was very much in place though due to British rule and behaviour of the time. Worthy to note too that the 'farther,' or designer and implementor of Apartheid was in fact Dutch, not South African. His father had come over to South Africa with his 4 boys to exterminate the British due to the Boer War, indoctrinated his children so full of hatred and the end result was Apartheid Today, unfortunately the only original people of South Africa, the Khoisan, have not seat in government, just like Native Americans. The parallels are there, however, ours was short lived, by the grace of God and we have come a great deal further in healing and changing than many countries. Today, my family is a rainbow nation of diversity, and this started way before the end of Apartheid. People of all demographics had to keep separate in fear of the security police. Nobody voted to institute Apartheid, it was done internally by the government and actioned by the army overnight. Hope this provides insight. I live in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, so if you do come this way, let me know, we can hang out. We are the friendly city of South Africa, although South Africa has just been voted the friendliest country in the world. take care, great show.

    • @shaankeegan4555
      @shaankeegan4555 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Dability firstly, my family is diverse as is full representation from ALL demographics, therefore it is derived from formal education and from integration of my family which existed during and after Apartheid. Furthermore, Mandela was fighting for freedom, I never disputed that, however, it is factually correct his involvement in the bombing was why he went to prison. Perspectives are only made as you live them, neither are wrong, they are your own experience. The combination of the Khoi and San people are scientifically and factually the original people of South Africa, the balance are migrant nations. I did not refer to equal education or the history of what was known that was Bantu education, I merely provided insight into what was factually occurring in white schools of the time. I did not refer to ANYTHING being equal at the time, hence referred to the division amongst whites too, if you read an Afrikaans history text book of the time, it did not concur with an English history book, that is called fascism with a purpose to segregate, which is why we were ALL kept desperate.

Some people now call it Green Soda. An innacurate statement is that most white South Africans are Afrikaans speaking. i think maybe over half are, the rest are English speaking mostly. There are no fake or blood diamonds in South Africa. The only fake diamonds (or copies of real diamonds) are for exhibition purposes in museums. And yes, Coloured is a designated race group in South Africa and it is NOT a racial slur here. Also, the mother tongue of Coloured people is mainly Afrikaans, with a few exceptions who speak English as their mother tongue. The government still insists on racial classification and there are four: Black, Coloured, Indian (as in their ancestors are from India) and White.

    South Africa only has one time zone, i.e. GMT+2. We also don't have any daylight savings time, meaning that it is always the same time everywhere in the country throughout the year. Quite convenient, as we never have to change our clocks and we never have to remember what time it is! FYI: for all practical intents and purposes, Pretoria (in Gauteng province) is the capital of the country, since all the foreign embassies are located in Pretoria and it has the residence and the office of the President We just had a national election last month and on Wednesday, June 19th, Ramaphosa will be inaugurated here in Pretoria at the Union Buildings. Can you tell that I live in Pretoria, LOL? Pretoria is about a 30 - 45 min drive from Johannesburg and although Gauteng is the smallest (and most densely populated) province in the country, it is the most wealthy province, since Johannesburg is the economic hub of South Africa and also of the African continent. Cheers from South Africa! 😊

Unfortunately not everyone has this option. If you have kids, you can only go on holidays during the school holidays. Not that Cape Town would be my preferred destination. The British commentator forgot to mention that 8 days into the invasion of Zululand, the Zulu's (armed with spears) annihilated 1500 Redcoats seperated from the main British column, armed with rifles and cannons in a few hours at the battle of Isandlwana. The remaining British column retreated back to the coast and waited for a larger army to be shipped out to reinforce them before the second attempt to invade Zululand began. It was at the time the worst defeat suffered by the British Army by a technologically inferior army.

    Some things in the video is sugar coated, like mentioning how 'tye spear of the nation' was an armed section of the resistance to Apartheid - they planted bombs in public places like supermarkets, churches and schools like current extremist groups.
    Also, when they mentioned the Zulu King (unfortunately he passed away a few years ago) and his wives and kids, you mentioned condoms, he had 6 wives, as in at the same time as is traditional and normal for those who can afford it. Kids are not seen as a burden like in the West, but a gift and makes you rich. Just shows how different cultures view marriage and kids...
    Coloureds are a cultural group and proud. Please don't feel bad about using that word for THEM, they are not dirty or a group to be pitied.

    Yeah better to move on. Its a can of worms that should remain closed. Although Apartheid was wrong, there is always two sides of a story. Not taking away the wrongs, but there were very wrongs on both sidedls.

    Apartheid is spoken openly because of the arrogance of the former oppressors who still want things to go their way and argue that apartheid was not that bad and better than the current government. Imagine such statements in Germany. But South Africans love peace and forgiving people.
