There are churches in the Netherlands that are older than the USA as you know it. The oldest ones have their origines in the 10 th century. The colonisation of America started in 1492 with Columbus. Most of the stones ones are build in the 1200-1300 AC. So yeah.... But you are right. Often the churches were the only stone bluildings in the city often also build on a high point, or created high point like a terp (manmade hill, Vikings used them in the olden days as protection to flooding) When a storm would hit, all the people would gather in the church, because that would be the safest place to be. So remember, a whole town would fit in a church. Now adays that would be insane.

And if you find this amasing, try the Eise Eisinga planetarium in Franeker in the Friesland provence. Mr Eisinga build a moving solarsystem in his ceiling. It's all made of wood too. His whole house is a planetarium he started building the solarsystem in 1774 en was done with it in 1781. In that time there were only 6 planets. It still runs and its still acurate. (for those 6 planets). If you want to marvel at someting go there.

The thing about baggers is that its just not needed in Germany. Typically you just put the stuff back in the shopping cart if you buy a lot. Then you go to your car with the cart, get everything in the trunk and at home you just get everything out of the trunk and into whereever it belongs. No bags even needed. If you buy smaller scale like me and dont have a car because oyu live in the city you just bring a small bag and put your stuff in it. Its just a few items and way faster for me to bag it than the cashier (like I will bag my stuff while the cashier scans which is way faster than everything else). Another problem for Walmart was that they did not adopt to the German City Building well. Metro is a huge store but they are designed for people buying in bulks e.G. Centres and businesses feeding like 100 People at once. Most normal people living in cities have a small groceries score in walking distance. Especially in the younger generation is common to just stop by and get your grocery for the day/next2-3 days at the smaller store after e.G. work. Its on the way anyways. At the countryside its a little bit different but even there smaller stores exist in e.G. biking range. People do use the car a lot more but I know nobody driving to the closest metro (15 minutes away from my parents home) to get groceries when there are like 5 Grocery stores on the way that dont require to search for an item in what is basically a warehouse. Having been to the US (SC and Florida) the average target for example is still about double the size of the average grocery store atleast where I went. The big Kaufland in my area is about Targets size and I consider a big store.
