This has been and I am quite sure will remain my favorite cover of this magnificent song. I can find no fault in it anywhere. Ask yourself, where do these words really come from.

Re: "Where do these words come from?" Answered:"Pure poetry, man." And where does poetry come from? Experience. The propensity to make shortened and concise use of words-in a way that is both personal and universal. I cannot explain poets. But I know, well, some excellent contemporary ones. Published, teaching, working, growing through all terrains-they work. They must. Where I am from, the ";ow-lands" refer to areas 'down country' near the Charleston, SC area-a bit of Georgia. I do not know of others. But it has been known by that name for an age! Yes, I love this. For fun, look for colors in the poetry- that's a small thing I learned. Beauty just is. TS
Listening today because my entire world has fallen apart. I have already called a suicide counselor. I’m listening trying to deal with my pain. Thank you Joan and Bob.
Do you know what babe? There are a lot of us going through the same thing that you are and I may be from Australia and far far away from you but I’m here babe.
Joan Baez, the singer with the best voice in the World...a voice for eternity...I am happy that I am contemporary with the "great voices" of music, regardless of the musical genre, modern...her voice emanates one feeling in the interior of my being that overwhelms me ... is the universal 'dressing' for an "emotional treatment" against the bad things of life... long life Joan Baez...

"Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands"🇺🇸 With your mercury mouth in the missionary times And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes Oh, who do they think could bury you? With your pockets well protected at last And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass Who could they get to carry you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums Should I put them by your gate Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace And your basement clothes and your hollow face Who among them can think he could outguess you? With your silhouette when the sunlight dims Into your eyes where the moonlight swims And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns Who among them would try to impress you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums Should I put them by your gate Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? The kings of Tyrus with their convict list Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss And you wouldn't know it would happen like this But who among them really wants just to kiss you? With your childhood flames on your midnight rug And your Spanish manners, and your mother's drugs And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs Who among them do you think could resist you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums Should I leave them by your gate Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? Oh, the farmers and the businessmen they all did decide To show you where the dead angels are that they used to hide But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side? How could they ever mistake you? They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm And with the child of the hoodlum wrapped up in your arms How could they ever have persuaded you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums Should I leave them by your gate Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row And your magazine husband who one day just had to go And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show Who among them do you think would employ you? Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole With your holy medallion and your fingertips now that fold And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul Who among them could ever think it could destroy you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums Should I leave them by your gate Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
Love this song, hate the botched lyrics. There are several but the one that is repeated over and over again is “prophet says” when you can clearly hear that it should be “prophets say”. 🙄
Okay for a start, her being black is completely irrelevant , also Dylan met Carolyn Dennis about 25 years after Baez so it’s dumb to compare the two And how do you know Baez didn’t end things with bob?
Maybe Dylan is just over rated as both a man and an artist? I wouldn't know but it's a possibility (some would say a distinct possibility, but I couldn't possibly comment). Yours with a geranium kiss xxx
She is a genius to sing this long song... and bring all the tears to the lonely souls at the gate.
I will know my song well before I start singing
You just about have to have the lyrics.
But at the same time, with Ms. Baez singing. Wow
BEAUTIFUL SONG ❤BEAUTIFUL JOAN
Comment ais-je pu même oublier ton existence, fabuleuse Joan, comment ais-je pu oser ?

lyrics make no sense, but riveting ballad nonetheless... dylan was smoking much too many mushrooms, but genius has no real explanations....
J admire sa voix si chaude et si mélodieuse ❤ ❤❤❤
mon regrets est de n'avoir pas été a son concert aux vieilles charrues ( en Bretagne), il y a plus de dix ans.
Thanks for the lyrics.

LOVE THIS
Beautiful lyrics. I can't say say any more!
lyrics are mushroom clouded gibberish.. the arrangement and ballad are classic Dylan (and Baez)
Mesmerizing
Oh

Beautiful voice, should also listen to Sissel
Where does Dylan find these lyrics? He’s more than just a songwriter. He eats my soul.
Is ''Just like a woman'' written to her?

And I thought Joe Hill was a good song.check legend of a girl child Lynda by Donovan.
Don't understand this song.
Why did Dylan have a child with a back up black singer when he had a beauty in Joan Baez

Wth is wrong with you?
Didn’t Joan Baes have a relation with another woman?
@@eriknystrom5839 She came out as bisexual decades ago.
