What a beautiful, strong, woman. I’ve loved her music since 1965. I grew up in San Francisco during the hippy ‘60’s! What a great time that was! She’s retired now but she’s still an icon for freedom. ❤️
Lord, I'd forgotten how great Joan Baez is. I had so many of her albums and played them 'til I wore them out. Thanks for this vid. It brings back some great memories. Her voice is so pure and lyrical and warm. Perhaps one of our best singers ever. Love her.
Joan Baez's voice is absolute purity! Little did she realize when she was singing that horrific times were coming - we thought nothing could be worse than the VietNam period - but now the Trump regime has captured too many supposedly intelligent people . . .will we overcome?
She still has that effect on me after all these years. I watched this on TV in 1965, and I saw her live in England this year. I'm 72 years old and still fighting for justice in the world but only from a computer now. Keep going Joan!!!
Me, too! I so loved her music in H.S....sort of dived into it emotionally ... Saw her in concert in 1963 or 64, It was an intense experience; this took me back to that time.
I am a fan too. I have never seen her live, sadly. i am 72 and at the end of the 60s and start of the 70s when youth had a conscience she and others were our songs leading us to a better world. Sadly greed seems to have stopped that progress.
i'm 62 now, your comment was 11 years ago so you'd be 83 years old now.. if you're still alive just want you to know i noticed your comment (and the picture of our 'Pal'...) and to let you know i too fight for justice from my computer and in my mind and it for some reason touched me (your comment. if (ha ha) you have passed on then your probably watching me type this (from heaven) and i hope we're smiling at each other .. as they say: "that is something everybody does in the same language!" btw i hail from near buffalo ny usa. (my friend)
Truly a unique voice. Not only did she have a soprano high end that could cut through the densest fog like a knife, she also possessed a very resonate Low end. Listen to her sing "Boots of Spanish Leather" or "Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands" She not only hits those near contralto notes she makes an impression with them.
This unbelievably marvellous voice - like a clear bell... Joan Baez was a legend when I was young, in the 1970s, 80s, and she still is a legend today... The voice may have become somewhat more husky, but it's still wonderful... And in these incredibly painful days, when a crazed dictator is raining down death and destruction on places that I know and which I love, I find myself returning once more to Joan Baez... for solace, probably...

I was about 5 years old when I first heard a song that moved me so so much that I never forgot the name Joan Baez and have never forgotten . Thanks for the memories Stanislav'
Well, for those of us of a certain age, she certainly brings back memories. The utter simplicity of her music means that she enjoyed the kind of direct rapprochement with her audience that today seems almost unknown (and perhaps unwanted). She was an absolute marvel. If you've got the voice and the technique, you don't need a gazillion megawatts to cover your infirmities.
I first heard her in 1962. Totally intrigued, I bought her earliest Vanguard records. Now, 84 y.o., I don’t get all the words, I need captions. But, I’m still enchanted by her voice. A unique blend of tremolo and vibratto, her crystal- clear soprano soars above most others- but with a warm and cozy feel. Notiice how her guitar playing is different, and appropriate to each song.
A wonderful concert. Her 1st album, which included Silver Dagger, was something I would look forward to just sitting and listening to, back in the 60's. She had a very magical sound.
I have many of her record & have to repair my stereo so it is wonderful to be able to hear her beautiful voice on my cell. I'm 80 & it's great to see she is well & singing. Like probably most of her fans I have loved her since the 60s.
She is so amazing, never get tired of hearing that voice! One of the best of all time in my humble opinion. And to top it off shes also out of this world beautiful.Definitely in the top 5 of female voices that I have ever heard.
In USSR this lady was THE ONLY SINGER allowed on their national radio. Her talent was captivating . Through her the nation of the USSR jailed inside their countries , fell in love with the USA spirit.
Another beautuful Norwegian voice is that of Sissel. She was born (1969) after Joan became a legend, she was picked to sing the Norwegian national anthem at the Olympic games in Lillehammer. Listen to "Like an Angel!" & "Sarah's Song!"
She is not fucking around. I watched the documentary about her and I have a whole new respect for her. How many other singers would go as far as moving kids in Hanoi to bomb shelters and sit there when bombs are being dropped above her to save them.
I grew up listening to Joan. Perfect voice that brought true meaning to those old ballads. She progressed and maintained her perfect interpretation of so many songs. I actually met her (and her mum). A genuine performer. So many traditional musos are up their own arses. Joan reminds us all that songs and music is for everyone.
LORD GOD WON'T YOU SEND ME A SONG. GIVE ME STRENGTH SO I CAN GO ON. LORD GOD WON'T YOU SEND ME A SONG. AND TAKE THIS BURDEN FROM ME. Joan was extremely BEAUTIFUL 😊❤😮
Hey! Charlotte Church used to have that moniker. Well, there’s lots of angels, and like snowflakes, none two are alike. Today Celion Dion (Canadian,) Sissel Krkjebo (Norwegian,) and Patricia Janeckova (Slovakian) are three angels singing to light up our lives. Can’t think of any good American singers now - most perform acrobatics and seem to have a 5 note range.
For God's sake , think man. It is not about her inadequacies , it's about the camera men , that don't have presence of mind and understanding , to appreciate her fingering the guitar , so unique , and therefore take part in obscuring the only occasion to have full benefits .

Some of us in the US grew up listening to her, but I don't think folk music was ever as popular as other styles of music. However, I just recently sang one of her songs with some friends from church, and was pleased to find others who love her music as well. We were all influenced by her versions of the songs we know.
+woodyaan Woody, She is indeed USA born and bred, but she offended the corporate and media elites by her passionate activism in support of the anti-war movement, farm workers, civil rights campaigns, etc. Today, her music is too cerebral, beautiful, and traditional for most young Hip-Hoppy ears.......

14:00 Joan was heartbroken during this time. Especially singing this song, I'd imagine, seeing as Dylan wrote it. It's very clear on her face that she was crushed. I sometimes wonder if this was written about her. It's typically said that he wrote it for Sure Rotolo, but I can't help but wonder if it was about Joan, and now she sings it after being burned by him on tour. Sad how she says that she is anti-marriage. Poor Joan
Joan was shaped by the 60's and the subculture she grew up in. While Jackie Evancho may have Joan's vocal abilities, she sings in a very different genre. Joan sang both for the sake of beauty and to make the world a better place. Jackie sings only for the sake of beauty.
Look beyond America for great singers. Celine Dion (Canada), Sissel Krkjebo (Slovakia), Charlotte Church (Wales) - and more. Too many American singers rely more on acrobatics than their voices to appeal to us. If you can look away when she clutches her crotch, Madonna also has a fantastic voice!

She is the greatest interpreter of Bob Dylan songs....they were boy friend and girl friend in the early 60's

If you misse the train I am on .... what a song of love friendship and the very relation between the artist and on'e's public. That's not an hazard that asks the public to sing the song with her

Joan Baes es una referencia cultural.Su voz, belleza...todo en ella emana paz & amor. Realmente es dificil pensar en una sucesora. She's nice, she lets us revive nice periods of our lifes. We also had bad memories, for ex.Vietnams, but she alows dream peace with her fantastic voice,we must think on people us Joan when stupid people fight & kills.Life must be as Joan's voice.Lovely and soft.Because allthou she has energy, its pure energy. We need more Joan's for kleaning dirty acts-dirty governants...
Joan is only 24 years old here and she has such command of the stage .
A very special Voice 🤗😍🤗somehow 😍 just Great 😊👍🤗
