What a beautiful, strong, woman. I’ve loved her music since 1965. I grew up in San Francisco during the hippy ‘60’s! What a great time that was! She’s retired now but she’s still an icon for freedom. ❤️

Lord, I'd forgotten how great Joan Baez is. I had so many of her albums and played them 'til I wore them out. Thanks for this vid. It brings back some great memories. Her voice is so pure and lyrical and warm. Perhaps one of our best singers ever. Love her.

Joan Baez's voice is absolute purity! Little did she realize when she was singing that horrific times were coming - we thought nothing could be worse than the VietNam period - but now the Trump regime has captured too many supposedly intelligent people . . .will we overcome?

Truly a unique voice. Not only did she have a soprano high end that could cut through the densest fog like a knife, she also possessed a very resonate Low end. Listen to her sing "Boots of Spanish Leather" or "Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands" She not only hits those near contralto notes she makes an impression with them.

This unbelievably marvellous voice - like a clear bell... Joan Baez was a legend when I was young, in the 1970s, 80s, and she still is a legend today... The voice may have become somewhat more husky, but it's still wonderful... And in these incredibly painful days, when a crazed dictator is raining down death and destruction on places that I know and which I love, I find myself returning once more to Joan Baez... for solace, probably...

Well, for those of us of a certain age, she certainly brings back memories. The utter simplicity of her music means that she enjoyed the kind of direct rapprochement with her audience that today seems almost unknown (and perhaps unwanted). She was an absolute marvel. If you've got the voice and the technique, you don't need a gazillion megawatts to cover your infirmities.

I first heard her in 1962. Totally intrigued, I bought her earliest Vanguard records. Now, 84 y.o., I don’t get all the words, I need captions. But, I’m still enchanted by her voice. A unique blend of tremolo and vibratto, her crystal- clear soprano soars above most others- but with a warm and cozy feel. Notiice how her guitar playing is different, and appropriate to each song.

Hey! Charlotte Church used to have that moniker. Well, there’s lots of angels, and like snowflakes, none two are alike. Today Celion Dion (Canadian,) Sissel Krkjebo (Norwegian,) and Patricia Janeckova (Slovakian) are three angels singing to light up our lives. Can’t think of any good American singers now - most perform acrobatics and seem to have a 5 note range.

Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'un moment
chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie.
The joys of love are but a moment long,
the pain of love endures the whole life long.
Your eyes kissed mine, I saw the love in them shine,
you brought me heaven right then when your eyes kissed mine.
My love loves me, and all the wonders I see,
a rainbow shines in my window, my love loves me.
And now he is gone, like a dream that fades into dawn,

14:00 Joan was heartbroken during this time. Especially singing this song, I'd imagine, seeing as Dylan wrote it. It's very clear on her face that she was crushed. I sometimes wonder if this was written about her. It's typically said that he wrote it for Sure Rotolo, but I can't help but wonder if it was about Joan, and now she sings it after being burned by him on tour. Sad how she says that she is anti-marriage. Poor Joan

Joan was shaped by the 60's and the subculture she grew up in. While Jackie Evancho may have Joan's vocal abilities, she sings in a very different genre. Joan sang both for the sake of beauty and to make the world a better place. Jackie sings only for the sake of beauty.

Look beyond America for great singers. Celine Dion (Canada), Sissel Krkjebo (Slovakia), Charlotte Church (Wales) - and more. Too many American singers rely more on acrobatics than their voices to appeal to us. If you can look away when she clutches her crotch, Madonna also has a fantastic voice!

I love her. I have loved her all my life... and I am a straight woman! But there is something so truly magnificent about Joan. Did you see her 75th birthday on PBS? I was sitting on my couch with my jaw down to my knees. This woman will always look beautiful, inside out, to me.

Well I don't know about the latter part of your comment ^^ , but I can tell you for sure that when Joan would sing "she's a troublemaker", audiences would crack up most of the time, if only from the total unexpected effect of surprise...

What a voice ! That's it. What struck me was also the video which gives a glimpse of the public catched in a 'contre-plongee shot between her arms and her guitare . That very special "Profondeur de champ' used and invented by Orson Wells iin "Citizen Kane" (195...?)

Joan Baes es una referencia cultural.Su voz, belleza...todo en ella emana paz & amor. Realmente es dificil pensar en una sucesora. She's nice, she lets us revive nice periods of our lifes. We also had bad memories, for ex.Vietnams, but she alows dream peace with her fantastic voice,we must think on people us Joan when stupid people fight & kills.Life must be as Joan's voice.Lovely and soft.Because allthou she has energy, its pure energy. We need more Joan's for kleaning dirty acts-dirty governants...
