I know it from They Both Die at The End. This book killed me its so tragic, but I loved every single second, and it teached me an invaluable lesson. Live life, take risks, enjoy it while it lasts. Make friends, get yourself a partner, go travelling, have a family if wanted, get a house or new apartment. Live every day to the fullest, because we all die in the end.
I knew this song existed and I liked it, but it never had an importance in my life until a few months ago. I was with all of my closest friends and we were on a lake, all spread out. Some of us were in the middle of the water on paddle boards, others were floating, or sitting on the dock. Nobody was really talking, we were just appreciating each other’s presence. But then all of a sudden this song comes on. We all look to each other and start screaming it together. We didn’t even have to say anything we all knew the lyrics. We sat there for 8 minutes singing/ screaming with each other. Even though we were far away. At the time it was just all fun but looking back, it was such an important moment in my life. Thank you for this song ❤️

I'm 67. I was 18 when this classic hit the airwaves. Young people today think they know what music is. American Pie is STILL A CLASSIC! Well now I'm 68. I recall many years ago about an article of a proposed TV series that never took root. Too bad. The series was about a jukebox that was a time machine. The concept was that when one played a song, the jukebox took you to that time and location when one first heard it. Such as the time in the fall of 1970 coming back late at night from a high school football game in the Charleston, SC area. I was sitting in the back of a buddy's car as he drove home. The radio was on and I heard for the first time James Taylor's "Fire and Rain". I bet other people can recall similar experiences.
This song was so popular when I was a child, it was always playing on my dads car radio; so American Pie evokes so many fond memories of my dad. In memory, on this day, December 7th, my dad was born. Happy Heavenly birthday dad. I love and miss you so much. ❤

I know right?! Am only 12 and i enjoy this song and understand why it became so populare at the time and i wish every on has the chance to enjoy this masterpiece
I’ve listened to this for 2 years and always got excited when they put this song in books (They Both Die In The End) and I hummed it in the theater for Black Widow
“I wasted all those yesterdays and am completely out of tomorrows.” --- “We’re not dying because of love. We were going to die today, no matter what. You didn’t just keep me alive, you made me live.”
Almost 78 now, and I've never cared much for pop music. I just now listened to this song all the way thru for the first time because of a prophetic dream about "American Pie" that someone in Australia recently had. I find the song weirdly unsettling, but also brilliantly contrived poetry.
I AM READING “They both die at the end” and I fucking screamed when I read that rufus and mateo will be singing American pie like AHHHHH HOW CAN THIS SONG GET EVEN MORE DEPRESSING?!
I know a way to make it even more depressing the day the music died was an event in the 1960s. It was when 3 of the most rock and pop cultured people died in a plane crash. The part of the song where it says “Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye” is based of how they were in the tour bus on a freezing day and the bus got froze so it broke down and they gathered together to take a few shots of alcohol.
Recon this was the early seventies , absolutely loved this song still do I remember cycling to work on a farm in England my first job. Solid state transistor radio tied onto my handlebars, rain ,snow ,wind sweltering sun. This is the first time I've ever listened and read the lyrics properly. A young kid off a council estate full of dreams, drove my Chevy to the levy stuck with me, I've had a few two stepside pickups and a few cars many years ago, this classic song takes me straight back to a very uncomplicated happy time in my life 🙏amen ❤.
I completely believe this is the best song ever written by an American artist. Every lyric is poignant, and everything is a double-entendre. It's an incredible poem set to a beautiful beat.
This song was very popular the year that I graduated from high school. It was a hectic year for me, and this song resonated with me. It is still one of my most favorite songs, and after 50 years of loving it, I doubt that will change! Rock on!
One of the most timeless, influential, relevant songs ever written and performed flawlessly by Don Mclean. I've heard this song my entire life and i never get tired of it and the meaning behind it is still relevant today and will be until the end of America comes as swiftly as the end of the Roman empire. Beautiful song by a talented musician that belongs as one of the staples of American culture.
I always get chills from the line "I saw Satan laughing with delight" at 6:04 . It's not just the lyric that does it, it's the delivery, the way he sings it with such strong emotion. Truly an amazing song.
This song is a symbolic reflection on the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson in 1959, often referred to as "The Day the Music Died."
This song is so special to me. My granny always sings along to it and even though neither of us have a good voice, we always sing it together. I always make sure it's played at least once when my granny is around. And because it was played in BW and of course the way it is something just as special to Yelena. It hits different I'm not really sure how to explain it-
@wiz-on-yt my gran died today, at the end of the movie finch - this song came on and it said "thisll be the day that i die" i went up to see her and that day she got took off oxygen and unfortunately died
I'm so happy seeing many recent people appreciating this classic songs, props to marvel for always including timeless songs on their movies soundtrack, it's a perfect way to let the new generation discover the music of yesterday
that truly is so wonderful to hear as someone who's in her early twenties and just discovered this song and my heart already feels so full. I can almost imagine the way it would've touched millions of hearts back then.

The unofficial anthem of Iona University, where Don McLean was a student, sits across from a bar on North Avenue in New Rochelle, NY known as the Beechmont Tavern, formerly known as “The Levee”. Nearly every Iona student either knows or becomes acquainted with this legend before they graduate.
I decided to read "they both die at the end" which is great and fun, but i also watched black widow... so american pie already had an incredible emotional appeal to me.... well the book just mentioned american pie and I have never cried harder in my life trying to read those few pages... I'm fine I promise
My Dad always sang American Pie whenever he had a moment, I miss those days when I was just a kid and never really understood music but still listened to him. It made me happy to hear this song in Black Widow, Don McLean deserves a-lot of recognition.
This part of the book was amazing and gave me so many emotions when I thought about Mateo, Rufus, and the public singing this song together 'cause at this moment they all relate to it ♡
I heard this when I was very young on one random day when I still thought it was truly possible for me to list every song I like in one book and this was one of the titles I wrote in it that stood out to me. I loved it ever since. Because I found the lyrics to be very fun with it's use of imagery. I took the message of it as a love song for joy in hardship and music in life well lived as a child. So even now at College, I still look fondly at the hours I spent playing this song in loop.
God bless USA. God bless South Korea. I actually loved this song when I was a high school student. Thanks for mister President of Korea Yoon Seok-Yeol, I came back to this song again.
The Korean President doesn’t know this song is telling the bad things about America in the 1960s. I don’t mean the song is anti-American. But definitely it is not a compliment.
Found my uncle in his room passed on. Looked at his phone and this was the last song he played. It was paused around the 2:40 mark. Rip uncle we love you 💕💕💕🕊
If anyone sees this.. I just wanna say how much you meant to me. You came into my life when I needed a brother, someone who is very funny but we know what’s behind it. You taught me that even us can find that One. The jokes, the humor, the sass, the smart Ass, the outsider, hurt one. I will always find comfort when I can watch you over and over forever knowing you will always be there for me. One day I hope I can make an impact on someone’s life how you did to mine. Love ya brotha, see you soon.. well not too soon, I gotta find my smart Ass replacement first. R.I.P Mr.Perry Chandler Bing.

That's us
Almost 78 now, and I've never cared much for pop music. I just now listened to this song all the way thru for the first time because of a prophetic dream about "American Pie" that someone in Australia recently had. I find the song weirdly unsettling, but also brilliantly contrived poetry.
It's a true bardic poem, and for that reason, it will outlive us all.
What was the dream?
I AM READING “They both die at the end” and I fucking screamed when I read that rufus and mateo will be singing American pie like AHHHHH HOW CAN THIS SONG GET EVEN MORE DEPRESSING?!
BSHAIAVGAIA I KNOW IM CRIYING SO HARD RN
‘I return my attention to the video, his voice blasting in my ears.
I cross the street without an arm to hold me back’
STOP ITTTTTT
ENOUGH.
I completely believe this is the best song ever written by an American artist. Every lyric is poignant, and everything is a double-entendre. It's an incredible poem set to a beautiful beat.
i agree, funny as it literally has american in the title, i also think this could be the best american folk song ever made

I hope you understand that this song is about how the English rock band took over Mclean's type of music in the 60's.
It' the story behind the lyrics that keeps it endless.
So true. I feel that this song is the soundtrack for the end of the American empire. I feel this deeply. 😢😢😢😢
The Roman empire didn't end swiftly, though. Parts lasted until the 1400s.
