Truly an unexpected beautiful voice delight! I am hopeful that I can find more of your singing. Good night and God bless you! -Blaine Santa Cruz, CA 😅😢
The problem with most covers is they usually miss the deeper element, the truth of the song, which cannot be faked. in this cover the pathos is loud and clear - well done.
I am listening to this 11:58 PM, October 28, 2021 NYC. First time I have heard you sing. What a truly beautiful version. Wherever you are now I hope that life is treating you well. Thank you.
This is my second experience hearing Julian do a cover. Never have I heard a musician make a song their own with such respect, originality, and humility.
Being a huge Bob Dylan fan I don't usually have much patience with Dylan covers. But I think this is OUTSTANDING, remarkable and brilliant. Thank you so much.
That's quite a remarkable comment considering many bands have made a career and much success from covering Bob Dylan songs. As a 'huge fan' which you quite boldly declare, I would have thought any kind of tribute to Dylan would be of interest surely?? ...But maybe that's just me? From another ' huge' Dylan fan👍
Yeah lets not comment on her stunning good looks or impeccable voice, not only do I almost like this version better than Dylans but I mean, a 10 minute cover, with almost no mistakes, no, this is just, incredible, blown away doesn't describe it.
Juliana , I hope you are making music. You are wonderful. That song fits your voice perfectly. I want to thank you for a moment in time that is truly a blessing in sound. You made me travel to another world. Love to you and your beautiful sound.
I'm a huge Dylan fan and collector since more than 35 years. His music is a major part of my life. I just came across this cover and was blown away. This is one of the most beautiful renditions of a Dylan song that I have ever heard, with great guitar playing and an amazing voice. It brought tears to my eyes. I wish I could sit down in a music club in Greenwich Village with a good drink or two and just listen to you for a couple of hours.
I had a book of all Dylan's lyrics back in '74 (yeah, I know, it's doubled by now at least) - anyway, I remember reading the lyrics for Sad Eyed Lady and thinking it was possibly the most beautiful song Dylan had written. I still feel that way, but was always disappointed by all the recordings of it - even Dylan's, and Baez's and Havens'. This..... THIS is it! It's perfect! Thank you so much Juliana Daily! I found this yesterday, and have listened to it at least 30 times.
Man... I don't know how many times did I listened this song! So soft, so easy to hear, so beautiful! Many days of my life in last two years were just easier with this song. Thank you very much! When world become ugly and hard I just listen your beautiful voice, old Dylan lyrics - and world is saved! Than you again. You did the great thing with this song.
I'm just going to join the chorus of people who hate B. Dylan covers. This one however, is soulful and original. A breath of fresh air. This is what you wish a Dylan cover would sound like. Love it.
How could they ever . . . ever . . . ever dissuade you? This is a lovely performance of one of the most beautiful songs ever written (written more than 20 years before the singer was born). Thank you, Ms. Daily.
When I first commented six years ago, my own Sad-Eyed Lady was in the early stages of a lengthy battle with cancer, which finally took her a little over a year ago, after 47 years of marriage. I now must try to live with the memory of her saint-like face, and the feeling of her ghost-like soul living in my heart. Ms. Daily, your beautiful rendition of this masterpiece again brings me to tears - good tears, holy tears. Thank you.
Just discovered your version 6 years too late but sitting here reminiscing about a Winter weekend in 1971 that I spent with friends in a cottage in the Scottish Highlands with us sitting around playing Dylan songs on guitars, mandolins, fiddles, piano and cello - cosy in front of a roaring log fire while the snow blanketed the ground outside. I fell in love that night ... and I've just done it again.
This is a bitter sweet song ... a burial eulogy through compassionate eyes of love. She started with a pure heart, adored by some, a prize to snare by others. She ended in the graveyard where we hear the mourning of someone who loved her, understood her, understood those around her. A sad life now ended ... Her hopes, her love and all her giving had been used to destroy her through their selfish nefarious manipulation. Now the one who really did love her eulogizes the tragedy of her life ... her hopes, her inner beauty, her trust ... all crushed under the boot heels of finality ... another dead angel is buried
Oh my God!!!!! This is pure magic......too beautiful to express in words what I feel listening to this performance.......this will surely leave me crying...overwhelming.....
With your mercury mouth in the missionary times, And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes, And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes, Oh, do they think could bury you? With your pockets well protected at last, And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass, And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass, Who could they get to carry you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands, Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes, My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums, Should I put them by your gate, Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace, And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace, And your basement clothes and your hollow face, Who among them can think he could outguess you? With your silhouette when the sunlight dims Into your eyes where the moonlight swims, And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns, Who among them would try to impress you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands, Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes, My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums, Should I put them by your gate, Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? The kings of Tyrus with their convict list Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss, And you wouldn't know it would happen like this, But who among them really wants just to kiss you? With your childhood flames on your midnight rug, And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs, And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs, Who among them do you think could resist you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands, Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes, My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums, Should I leave them by your gate, Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? Oh, the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide To show you the dead angels that they used to hide. But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side? Oh, how could they ever mistake you? They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm, But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm, And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms, How could they ever, ever persuade you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands, Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes, My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums, Should I leave them by your gate, Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait? With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row, And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go, And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show, Who among them do you think would employ you? Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole With your holy medallion which your fingertips fold, And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul, Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you? Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands, Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes, My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums, Should I leave them by your gate, Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
I think it must be the dynamics which makes this shine so bright. When you sing with the gusto, it makes this performance more and more magical. That guitar is definitely making it shine. I appreciate that these lyrics demand your attention, thanks to your art.
What a stunning, highly personal and compelling interpretation of the Bard's most difficult and personal song, as unapproachable as the image it portrays. It poses unique challenges to anyone trying to interpret it, including its author, but this is reaches that height - spellbinding. _Bravissima_ !
Very nice Juliana. I've been listening to you voice for over three years now. It always takes me back to a happier time in my life when I hear it. Thank you ! You have a beautiful soul.
Wow, What a Voice, this is definitely beyond any doubt the best cover of one of Bobby's song's, never mind this song. Truly Absolutely Stunning, thank you 🙏💕 Whoever Steve is, God Bless you 🙏
This is what happens when an extraordinary song reaches deep into the heart of a young person...and, oh my, she gets it. She has made this one her own. Bravissimo. Don't ever stop singing.
Juliana I have to congratulate you.!!! I was listening to this song from the original album Blond on Blond. I'm a Dylan's fan since ever and this is one of my favorite.
