Everyone should try to find at least one friend or relative to consistently learn an unfamiliar fighting game with. Meet up in person or online at least once a week to chill a bit while trying goofy stuff with characters that would never fly in ranked. Learn and grow together. Those are good memories being made along with a solid relationship that will hopefully last a long time. In contrast you will never meet 99.9% of ranked players, and you will be more likely to drop the game if you go it alone and insist that getting endlessly crushed by veterans is the only way to experience it.
I plan on looking for a local as well when I have more free time than I do now.

Thank you for this! This video was very much needed! I am 29 hours in and am maining Kaguya. This is my first time ever playing a UNI game and I get slapped and destroyed. I am getting ready to do the Expert part of the tutorial and have been watching UNI content for Kaguya’s BnB combos but I don’t understand the combo strings when people mention 6c into a 2a. It has me discouraged and I haven’t played the game in a week but miss playing it. Any suggestions???

So glad you’ve given UNI a try! The internet uses “number pad notation” because it’s easier to share combos internationally and not rely on English/Japanese words for directional inputs etc. a Google search or checking the Mizuumi wiki will explain it but basically the directions are numbers on a computer number pad. 4 is left. 6 is right. 5 is neutral. And so on. Best of luck!

@@ActivateFG Wow this is a huge revelation! Thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know it really means a lot! So many things will be clicking into place for me now that I know this! I’m going to really start sinking my teeth into learning her BnB combos so I can stand a chance out there in the UNI world! 🫶🏻

It’s why this game and other niche titles are shite for new fighting game players. Easier to stick to SF or Tekken where there’s enough other shite players for you play against.

This is why I stopped playing. Skill gap is too large. At least half the people I fought were so clearly above my skill level that I couldn't even touch them. Double perfects left and right. It's not fun. I wanted to learn with people my skill level but majority of people of that level don't exist or have left. So there's nothing for me here. Sadly this game will always be niche and never really grow. Most people have already moved on from this game as there are better options such as Tekken 8. This game is clearly made for veterans only. Newcomers really aren't welcome. I'm fine with the game being hard and knowing my place that I don't belong in this game but same time it's also why so many people don't play.
It's a difficult thing to deal with it as either you have the game be too easy to play where everyone can play it and lacks depth to keep it interesting or make it insanely hard/legacy based but your player base is small. Pick your poison I guess. For comparisons, the extreme left (GranBlue Fantasy Versus) vs the extreme right (UNIEL 2). It's rare where you have the best of both worlds.

Fair enough. Overcoming or working around the skill gap is definitely not an experience for everyone. There are plenty of other games and if u decide to give UNI another shot, there are various ways to make it work.

@@ActivateFG It's fine. I'm honestly too old to be going to locals just to play this game. I'm 43, full time job and really only want to play online when I feel like it. I don't want the game to turn into a job just to play casuals. I like learning but with fighting games you really have to learn at the majority's pace rather than your own since the game is niche. And that's just not something I care to do. Keeping up with the Jones's just isn't my thing anymore.
