Since I've been chewing these thoughts for a while I guess I'll finally vent them somewhere. I get Ellen's motivation, I really do. To an extent I could even forgive her. But I won't. You know why? Because of her speech at the end of the game. "Still alive? I have to applaud your tenacity." Screw you! Also, because she CUT OFF HER OWN LEGS AND GOUGED HER EYES OUT before body switching to make Viola suffer. Because she taunted Viola. Because she laughed when Viola's own father killed her. Ellen's actions are unforgivable because she didn't just carry them out for a desire to continue living and be loved, but to make a young girl who loved and trusted her suffer.
Although, you could argue that the suffering was necessary as a witch needs to despair in order for her to die, so Ellen was trying to ensure that would happen. But that doesn't make what she did any more forgivable or less f***ed up and cruel.

She Mutilated herself with the only purpose to give Viola a Dying Body with a Painful disease and horrible wounds; and get her to become a "monster" so her own father would give her the final blow. The only thing about this story is that consoles me is the fact that Ellen's black cat was a demon. So, that means that there must be angels with either greater or equal power. Surely an angel would be sorrowed by Viola's fate when she had sincere kindness and compassion towards Ellen. Perhaps, as Viola lay shot and dying while using up the last of the residual magic within Ellen's body, an angel came to her side.
I wish that were the case, but it was clearly explained that the cat was a demon. In return for the demon to feed on the people Ellen brought to the house, the demon offers Ellen a way to live on when there was no other way. The demon just came to collect on the final sacrifice, and in so doing Ellen fulfilled her terms of her contract to live on in her new body.
Actually, the demon left the cat's body before the ending when you see the black cat's corpse in front of ellen's room. The demon leaves the cat's body because he knows that the house is going to fade because the witch is leaving. You can even see the demon (He's a smoky purple haze) if you get the secret ending, in which the demon will say why he's leaving. So yeah, it would make sense if at the end, an angel possesed the cat and came to Viola's side.
In the past, Ellen is a witch, Viola is a human. They were friend, but Ellen's body starting to disrepair, so she had to found a new body to alive. So she choose Viola, she said to Viola that she wanna play a game that it's change their soul in one day. At the moment, Viola's soul in Ellen's body, Ellen't soul in Viola's body. Viola use magic to bring Ellen to her castle. She try to kill Ellen but she can't. Ellen escap from the castle and meet Viola's father. Viola's father think this is his daughter. I find it funny that most people don't know that when you're playing the game in Viola's body, they have already switched. You're helping Ellen escape, and there is absolutely no chance for them to switch back because the spell only works when both parties agree to it.
This song just made me realize: Ellen thinks that Viola must sacrifice herself and give her body to her because she is her friend. viola thinks that she must return because she is her friend,,, so both of them have pretty twisted ideals of friendship (idk if i explained myself correctly but...)

Nah lol thats not how it works. I dont think Viola give a shit about Ellen. She saw her as someone naive bcs Ellen is too kind. So she used her kindness to get her body. Thats why she gouge her eyes and amputate her legs so Ellen (who's in Viola's body couldnt see and chase her)

This is further explained in Fummy's novella, "The Diary of Ellen". In order for a witch to die, she has to endure "true despair". Ellen planned to get rid of Viola. So she purposefully cut off her own legs and gouged her eyes out to make Viola hopeless in her new body. Ellen wants Viola to despair. That's the only way Viola could die, since she was in a witch's body. The REAL reason why Ellen gave Viola the throat-burning medicine was because she hated hearing Viola's screams in her own voice. The illness Ellen had was extremely painful and when they switched bodies Viola couldn't handle it.

Friendly reminder that according to the manga, Ellen was technically like seven years old when she became a witch. 200+ years later, 13 year old Viola shows up, pities the bedridden Ellen (again, who looks like she's 7) and agrees to help Ellen bc of the sickness. Ellen then cuts her legs off and gouges her eyes out. When the two switch bodies, Viola (now in Ellen's dying body) screams in pain. Ellen gives Viola a potion to "soothe her pain" which burns Viola's throat to the point she can't speak, which is why Viola (ellen, to those who don't get the knife during the final chase in the game) can only gurgle in response to everything. I like Ellen as a villain but she does NOTY deserve a happy ending.

The lesson here is that: never be too kind and generous to someone, for example a one sided relationship where one friend helps the other one and doesn’t get help back. I have a theory: When Viola dies in you know who’s body, Ellen doesn’t look back in the credits and giggles. But in the good ending, “Ellen” doesn’t giggle and she looks back at the house. So my theory is that each ending takes place in a different dimension, so in the true dimension, Ellen lives on in Viola’s body and in the good dimension, Viola doesn’t switch with Ellen and is hunted down, but escapes. Maybe Ellen got so exited about getting Viola’s body that the diary wrote the entry and she burned her throat when Viola was trying to escape her.
sorry but that's wrong , elen and viola already switched body before the game story even start , the reason why she doesn't giggle in the "good" ending is that because ellen failed to kill viola in the worst way possible , regardless ending viola still die anyway , BUT the "true good ending" can be achieved by letting yourself get caught during the chase scene , when viola say " give it back" , that is the true good ending .
That’s a neat theory. So basically the normal ending you’d be playing as the real Viola and she never switched bodies with Ellen. And Ellen inside her original mutilated body is angry at Viola for refusing to swap places.

After I played the game I hated Ellen. But then after, I could understand.. Her parents hated her, she was suffering from a sickness.. If I were her, I would do the same thing just to be loved and cured. But still, I was staying away from the computer for a month because I was paranoid the computer would take my soul. XD
I understand people feeling sorry for Ellen, but what she did was terrible, her parents didn't love her, yes, but she kept on killing every friend that came to her house with no remorse, and then she intentionally cut of her legs and gouged out her eyes to make Viola suffer when they would trade bodies. (Thus why Viola/Ellen's legs were gone and her eyes were bleeding) She didn't care about anyone regardless if they made her happy or not, or that genuinely cared about her like Viola. She did deserve better then what was granted, but after what Ellen became, (a murdereous, asshole who cared about literally no one) she didn't deserve an inch of life.
At first, Ellen's backstory seems to paint her as a neglected child who only desired to be loved. But her remorseless sacrifice of other children takes away that sympathy. Worse yet, after what she did to Viola, who showed her genuine love and trust, I can't possibly feel sorry for such a vile person. Ellen wants to make anyone love her and if they refuse regardless of reasons she'll kill them off and revel in their suffering. She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

This popped in my recommend right after Halloween transpired, I really love the Witch's House, you don't find the kind of passion the internet had back then nowadays.
So for the people who haven't watched or played the game, "The Witch's House" this is what happening in the song. Long story short, the witch (Ellen) switched body's with the girl because she was going to die and wanted to be free from her house "The witch's house" (name of the game) she couldn't leave it because she was like bonded to it but the girl (Viola) is like NAHHH MY GUY I WANT MY BODY BACK. And that's basically it.
I love this soooo much and what makes me love it even more is that I can sing that high pitched!! Thanks this also helps me practice for other songs and by having me sing high and low pitches which will help me in choir next year

I have a theory: When Viola dies in you know who’s body, Ellen doesn’t look back in the credits and giggles. But in the good ending, “Ellen” doesn’t giggle and she looks back at the house. So my theory is that each ending takes place in a different dimension, so in the true dimension, Ellen lives on in Viola’s body and in the good dimension, Viola doesn’t switch with Ellen and is hunted down, but escapes. Maybe Ellen got so exited about getting Viola’s body that the diary wrote the entry and she burned her throat when Viola was trying to escape her.
sorry but that's wrong , elen and viola already switched body before the game story even start , the reason why she doesn't giggle in the "good" ending is that because ellen failed to kill viola in the worst way possible , regardless ending viola still die anyway , BUT the "true good ending" can be achieved by letting yourself get caught during the chase scene , when viola say " give it back" , that is the true good ending .

That’s a neat theory. So basically the normal ending you’d be playing as the real Viola and she never switched bodies with Ellen. And Ellen inside her original mutilated body is angry at Viola for refusing to swap places.

After I played the game I hated Ellen. But then after, I could understand.. Her parents hated her, she was suffering from a sickness.. If I were her, I would do the same thing just to be loved and cured. But still, I was staying away from the computer for a month because I was paranoid the computer would take my soul. XD
Read "The Diary of Ellen" sometime.
I understand people feeling sorry for Ellen, but what she did was terrible, her parents didn't love her, yes, but she kept on killing every friend that came to her house with no remorse, and then she intentionally cut of her legs and gouged out her eyes to make Viola suffer when they would trade bodies. (Thus why Viola/Ellen's legs were gone and her eyes were bleeding) She didn't care about anyone regardless if they made her happy or not, or that genuinely cared about her like Viola. She did deserve better then what was granted, but after what Ellen became, (a murdereous, asshole who cared about literally no one) she didn't deserve an inch of life.
At first, Ellen's backstory seems to paint her as a neglected child who only desired to be loved. But her remorseless sacrifice of other children takes away that sympathy. Worse yet, after what she did to Viola, who showed her genuine love and trust, I can't possibly feel sorry for such a vile person. Ellen wants to make anyone love her and if they refuse regardless of reasons she'll kill them off and revel in their suffering. She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

So for the people who haven't watched or played the game, "The Witch's House" this is what happening in the song. Long story short, the witch (Ellen) switched body's with the girl because she was going to die and wanted to be free from her house "The witch's house" (name of the game) she couldn't leave it because she was like bonded to it but the girl (Viola) is like NAHHH MY GUY I WANT MY BODY BACK. And that's basically it.

Wendy Marvell Viola switched her body with her friend,named,'Ellen', well,she thought that Ellen only wanted to borrow it but no, she just got betrayed.
Yeah, Matthew is right. Ellen was always ill and she didn't like it because she couldn't play outside but she had a wonderful friend Viola and one day when Ellen made herself blind and without legs she asked Viola to switched their places. She said "for one day" but she meaned "forever" and Viola in the body of Ellen couldn't escape from mansion :/ hope i helped
***** indeedy you did~ But what also happened was that when Viola(in Ellens dying body) realized that she was betrayed, she used the magic of the house to trap Ellen who has her body. She wanted her true body back like she was promised. Of course as we saw in the true ending that doesn;t happen.
from what I understand Ellen and Viola changed their bodies but Ellen tricked Viola and Viola tries to get her body and life from Ellen but in the end Viola gets killed by her father because she is in Ellen body..
