Excellent video, I think you must be the second person to complete the whole route after Sadiq Khan 🤣. What I’ve noticed is all of the Superloop buses are single deckers in Bromley, every one has been a 61 plate Diesel and they’ve looked pretty empty. The bus fleet should surely have been the first thing that was upgraded in Outer London.
Diamond Geezer I think has done the loop elements virtually ( think it clocked in at 9hrs on real time bus tracking - starting . finishing at the Thames ). Geoff Marshall and Roger French have probably done the full routes on first days ( with an assortment of gang of younger bus riders collecting their badges and goody bags )
Only the SL5 from Bromley to Croydon is single deckers, ex 289's to be precise. This is because of a ridiculous height restriction on South Eden Park Road since the council don't want to trim the trees down on that road. The contract for the route is only temporary though so next year it should be getting newer buses.
I was in Bromley today and there was one of the old single decker diesel buses re-badged as superloop had broken down at the lights at Bromley South, causing all sorts of congestion
BCG. To catch the SL7 after being dropped off at Park Street Croydon (37.40) you state that you are advised to walk to the 1st stop at West Croydon, which is a 11 mins walk away. The easiest and safest route, is the 2nd stop in Dingwall Road which is next to East Croydon Station. This is a 5-minute walk away. There is also a bus stop at the top of Park Road and its only one stop on the bus if needed. local knowledge sometimes helps ! Keep up the good work...👏👏👏
Damn, yeah, I didn't know that. I'm not very familiar with Croydon. The Dingwall Road stop would make sense for commuters though. However for the purposes of this test I wanted to do the entire Superloop routes, so did need to go to West Croydon to catch it at the start. Thanks for this info though!
Epic video. Last quarter is a real visual treat. Not surprised its unconnected, and the bits where the buses is at the same stop, a timetabled overlap is clearly beyond their concern. Looks like the route uses existing routes while skipping most of the opportunitys for passenger to board or alight. M25 n/s circular road comparisons welcome. Went to Westfield shopping, from barnehurst. All the walking and waiting added on, i could have driven to wales!

@@thevoid6818 Haha, I can trump that one, too! It took me three hours to get between two junctions one Sunday afternoon, while my poor, elderly and slightly confused Dad waited at Stansted airport! People were having to leave their cars to relieve themselves on the verges!
Let’s be honest. Much like the general plan for City Hall. There was no analysis done on the benefits case (beyond more buses equals less cars - right?) the buses appear to be mostly empty outside of Heathrow “at rush hour”. How many mostly empty buses need to be run at what frequency to make them less environmentally friendly than the evil cars? How many cars will this actually replace? Is it just an easy win to be seen to be doing something for the incumbent mayor? The route itself - I live in Bexley, can’t remember the time I last needed to get to North Finchley 😂 whereas I do need to get to the City - where the jobs are.
The next bus leaving before you arrive is a problem with public transport everywhere, including trains. This is why we use cars. Public transport only works well if it can be done without changes.
I couldn't agree more. With the technology around today, there is not excuse for it and surely, better integration would help everyone and shouldn't add to the cost.
A feat worthy of Top Gear. A very balanced view. I have noticed two of them simply took over existing Bus routes, which is why they do not link up. Terminating points should at least show clear directions to the start of the next superloop Bus. The Woolwich ferry is an eyeopener.
Been a bit of annoyance that indeed with the loop there were no real opportunities taken to overlap the routes - it is a trade off on congestion / too many buses , really the routes are meant as single journey ones providing a slightly faster alternative to more local buses - some of the routes there is a flexibilty in what roads the buses actually take between destinations - others are more fixed
At 28:10 in North Woolwich you could've walked to Woolwich via the foot tunnel, hopped on the ferry or even got the Elizabeth line direct to Abbey Wood from Custom house.
I did the ferry by car, so didn’t want to repeat that. The DLR was quick and only one stop. I didn’t take the 472 to Abbey Wood, as that would have meant cutting out part of the Superloop route, and the plan was to use it in its entirety.
This vid highlights how poorly designed London roads and public transport options are. Kingsbury to Ilford is 17 miles the fact it takes 2 hours is ridiculous.
Actually the main running times between car and bus on individual routes are not too far apart. The SL10 finishing a stop early is probably an extra peak one finishing to go on to its garage or being turned back as another has caught it up with just the 2 min wait. The lack of M-F daytime shoppers is noticable, I think it may be different on a Saturday. To do the loop (rather than the full on ends in Croydon where the "overlap" exists - there may be a strong case for the SL5 to serve West Croydon Bus station for easier interchange to Bromley from there ) a bit quicker changing at East Croydon station/bus station shaves off prob 15 to 20 mins walking and riding around Croydon if you dont actually want some of the places in Croydon as destination
You wouldn't have been able to get a SL6 at that time anyway. The buses that go in to central London only do so in the mornings, and from central in the evenings. They only travel in one direction during peak time. Those buses were so empty because they don't serve all the stops that the other buses serve.... express buses.
Who wants to get on the buses! it’s an an awful environment which it should not be. Poor bus drivers are subject to abuse everyday ,your forced to listen to people on there phones listening to tic tok videos not good .i may have missed the point a bit but it’s true. Well done for the comparison BGC.
Why the SL buses may not be as crowded of course as the other buses may have something with a couple of things . One is that most normal bus journey's will require the use of stops that the SL buses dont serve . And if folk are as silly as me when see a limited stop service they my think it will be special prices . I know when I first used the SL service I asked the driver if my pass covered that servics as I did not know
that is interesting , indeed the old Green Line services which covered some of the southern area loop had different fares to London's red buses. other routes were X prefix routes and I would think even they people would think are not part of the oyster network
Does that include the time waiting for the bus aswell, , big difference in price, though electric charging is way overpriced , well done, enjoy your coffee
OK first off you didn't include parking, ie finding parking and presumably the cost of parking at each stopping point. Remember when using the bus there is no parking fees or issues, and in order to be accurage and fair you need to include parking fees and finding time, because anyone using the superloop can jump off at any point and do what they want to do and get back on another loop bus to continue.
Does this bus go exactly where I want when I want. Like say I want to fish at a lake with all my fishing gear, play golf or pick up shopping. Can it carry my family in complete safety? Away from unknown migrants now in our country. Or people with poor mental health? Does it have a boot and a roof rack to carry all my stuff? Does it cost less than my car? Think I'll pass
Minus the SL3 not going to Woolwich and the confusion in Croydon, I'd say they haven't done a bad job. Better than having to use the Dartford Crossing or traversing into Central London just to go from North East to South East.
The SL2 and SL3 link just highlighed East London's biggest problem. Lack of river crossings. I hate the big gap for SL2 to SL3. If Livingstone still had his way or if Boris Johnson wasnt such a completely incompotent moron. We wouldve had a new bridge at Gallions Reach linking Becton and Thamesmead. And just maybe the SL2 and SL3 wouldve met along with other cross river buses. Im surprised that the Silvertown Tunnel was given permission and not the bridge when the bridge couldve easily provided all transport options including cycling and walking. I hope TFL builds the DLR extension along with that bridge, other countries like Germany and Belgium are doing that. Mankind is just complicated and its own worst enemy.

About £45 car, £7 bus. This obviously doesn't include the forty thousand for the car or BCG's portion of the taxes for the buses.
