- These are 7 tips to add onto my tutorial on how to use Live2d to rig your Vtuber model. These are more specific tips which make using Live2d easy. I wish I had learned these before I started animating my Vtuber model, so i hope that they will help you. Leave any questions in the comments!
These are the 7 things I wish I knew before using Live2d
1. Study from sample models
www.live2d.com/en/download/sa...
2. How to replace parts
3. How to smooth joints using "glue"
4. How to do the other side using "reverse motion"
5. How to change parameter keyforms using "reflect" and "adjust"
6. How to smoothly link x and y using "synthesize corners"
7. How to do the other eye using "reflect"

Tip for *Tip 2* for anyone interested
If you are going to change the COLOR or FORM of some part (lets say the tongue)
i recommend that you delete everything but *that layer* that you are changing in Photoshop
And THEN replace in LIVE2D (Save this file as something else, so you don't mess up the original PSD file)
Some draw orders/layers placement might get screwed if you replace all the layers with the changed one included (i'm talking from experience haha)
I hope this is useful to improve a little bit the workflow
Hmm I know this works too. This was how I did it before I knew that Live2d recognizes an edited .psd file and replaces the parts. But I would recommend this as a 2nd option to replace parts, if editing the .psd messes up the draw orders/layers placement. Because with this method, you'd have to add new texture mesh, update the texture atlus, drag it into the correct layer position and deformer hierarchy. Its a lot more work.
Thanks for mentioning this Garo!
@@KappakoChannel hey, I know this isnt a good workflow for changing earlier work, but would it be a good way to add a new outfit, or would you rather add a new layer to the psd, reupload to l2d, and then copy settings as a start?
@@rickmercy4413 i couldnt find this comments so im sorry for the late reply! so if you want to add a new outfit, you can update your old psd file or import a new psd file into the same live2d file. Either way works the same because youll need to re rig the new outfit by adding new deformers and parameters.

pin this comment!
Tip 7 is godly, i always struggle to make both eyes look the same haha
Thank you!
Thank you
So I assume you just copy and paste what you can from the eye and replace the iris and eye specular afterwards?
@@dylanbeazley6739 wondering this too! There are some parts you wouldn't want mirrored, plus some people have unique art on different eyes!
Great vid! Tips 4 & 7 will save me hours. Also, don't forget to flip the eye highlight texture after copying the eye (:
Ahhh I entirely forgot about the eye highlight! It cant be reflected. Reflect everything else normally. But for the eye highlight, for each keyform selected, you need to shift+drag it to the right eye. Pressing shift will make sure it is moving only in the x axis, then just drag it until it matches the left eye.
When I first started working with Live2D there was only Japanese and Chinese tutorials about it. Thanks God now we have good content in English, like this one!
I think quite a few of the new japanese tutorials have subtitles! But i appreciate it Erix :D thanks
A really nice and simple overview of some tricks there!

@@KappakoChannel How long did it take you to rig your vtuber model if I may ask? :o I'm rigging one myself but failed at least 7 times so I was wondering how long does it take ^^
@@Shirruri It took me 2 weeks to draw and another 2 weeks to rig it with live2d. But I was taking my own sweet time, I've heard of people getting it done in 3 days too XD Keep trying, every time you fail, you learn something new!

Thanks Mundus!
I literally own you my work
Thx u so much for this tips
Thank you Marc
If you can't get it to separate the reflected eye from the other, Lock the eye that's staying put! That will allow you to change the other parameter without taking the other from yourself!
Ohhh thanks allison
i think the most impressive thing here is how your synthesize corners didn't fuck up badly like it always does for me lol
I also recorded this after I was done rigging everything XD
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU
Youre very welcome Setsaled
WHY THIS TALENTED GIRL HAVE ONLY 500 SUBSECRIBERS ????
Ahhh thank you haha my channels growing and im very happy! I just hit 500 today XD
New Subscriber's here ♡
Edit: Thanks for this tutorial ♡♡♡
Hi DM thank you DM
@@KappakoChannel Ya Welcome ♡
If you mirror the eye. Do you have the highlights on a separate layer to move it back to the correct spot?
i just want to ask about the last one : so my oc have 2 different eye color and different pupil , if i do what you did i will end up coping the whole eye or just the movements?
Hey!! thanks for this tutorial!!
what would be the best way to do animations that like, don't involve the character model at all? Like, for instance, you want to hide the character model for the duration of the animation, and then play another image or something, if that makes sense?
Thanks for the question! Im not sure what youre describing tbh. If you want your model to turn invisible, then you can create a new parameter that controls the opacity of the textures. At keyform 1, all the textures are 100% opacity. At keyform 0, the textures are 0% opacity.
@@KappakoChannel Oh, I see! Thank you!!
It beat the shit out of me when I realized the model on the first thingy thing had 2 arms
is there a different way to reflect the model's eyes?
my character has heterochromia and I wanted to know if there is a way to do it for that
HI do you happen to know how to change brush size?
Okok so first time trying to understand this stuff. So i create a model by drawing it out, each limb is a different layer...does it need a separate layer for shading too?
I lost my trial cause I spent so much time drawing my avatar (restarting it I mean) and now I can’t save or export it is there a way to export and save without the pro version?
I love your voice ;u;
Thank you Acesu ecchii megumi
Hello! I'm completely new at Live2d and was wondering what the command was for undo? For example, if I'm testing a rotation deformer and want to revert the part to it's original position, what do I do?
control + Z, or Modeling > Edit Shape > Revert to Original
@@KappakoChannel Lifesaver, thank you so much
Noice!
Thanks Banfi
For the 7th one, what do you need to do for the Eye Shine if you don't want it to be symmetrical.
Sorry i forgot about the eye highlight! It shouldnt be reflected. So follow the steps I instructed in the video, select everything for the eye but deselect the eye highlight, and reflect everything normally. But for the eye highlight, for each keyform selected, you need to shift+drag it to the right eye. Pressing shift will make sure it is moving only in the x axis, then just drag it until it matches the left eye.
CAN u make a background tutorial pls
Are you able to only copy the deformers onto the 2nd eye snd not the textures if say the 2 eyes are different colors?
I'd just reflect the other eye as I showed in the video. When you're done, delete the iris and replace it with the different colored iris. You would need to manually rig the new iris to blink, but good news is that you don't have to rig the eyeline/eyelashes cause that's the hardest part to make symmetrical.
ik its an old video, but what art program do you use?
Are there things you wish you knew after using live 2d?
Would it be possible to re-import an eye texture but also keep the previous one?
I want to add different textures for my eyes and keep the mesh, but even if i copy one eye beforehand all eyes get changed :(
you can edit the psd file, change the eye color etc and keep the same layer name. reimport it into live2d and it will recognize it
i feel like theres some limitations with the 7th tip since it reflects the eye exactly, including things like shines in the eyes which should be pointing the same way, and doesnt exactly work for heterochromic eyes. Unless It is possible to replace the new copy pasted eye with the one that was hidden/deleted..?
yes reflect works for the majority of vtuber designs but not for heterochromic eyes. I would deform the new eye overlapping the reflected eye and then delete the reflected eye
@@KappakoChannel ahh thats true yeah. Thankyou!!!
There is a option to Replace!!!!? thanks soo much !
No prob! Im glad i helped someone XD
I'm having a bit of trouble animating the eyelids to open and close while the head is in another position like tilted because they just return to their original spot when closing, how do I fix this?
remove the eye textures keyforms for head xyz angles, those should be controlled by a warp deformer.
Quick question, what happens to my saved model file if I delete live2d?
(Cus the keyforms in parameters are not moving at all and I think that it's Live2D having lag issues so I was planning to uninstall Live2D, but im still not sure if it will affect my saved model file.)
as long as you save your .cmo3 file, you can reinstall live2d and continue to work on your model with all the keyforms and parameters
Can you help me please, I already added rotation deformers to my model's arms and now I'm trying to add a rotation deformer to the upper part of the body and when I click "create" this always pops up: please create an object with the same parent deformer selected.
What should I do to fix it and add a rotation deformer to the upper body with finished head and hand rotation deformers. Any tip would be very useful! 😓
For the "please create an object with the same parent deformer selected" pop up, you can fix it by putting all the textures in one warp deformer. You dont have to deform it, just use it as a folder.
@@KappakoChannel Hey, I tried it and the same thing popped up when I was trying to put the body's half in one warp deformer.
@@nellyeh try putting all the textures in one warp deformer? think of warp deformers as folders sometimes, to separate other rotational deformers
@@KappakoChannel oh, thanks for the tip!
thank you soo much!- but i need help- my vTuber is already compleatly done + riging- it looked totaly normal untill i exported it- then like every where over the face appeared glitches- for example a part of the tongue glitched over the eye and the half of the eye brows copied and glitched to the top pf the head- i looked it up but i couldnt found anything- maybe you know what i mean- i hope someone can help me bc it would be soo sad if all this work from drawing and riging were just for nothing- :(
i would open up live2d cubism and check each part and deformer, make sure it is only controlled by the correct parameter. If one part is controlled by more than 2-3 parameters, there will be a popup that explains that it will behave unpredictably.
@@KappakoChannel YOOO thank youuu! it worked! And now im a vTuber as well- Thanks to you :D
For tip 1, I tried to put the example model in but it just won’t load?
Hmm I'm not sure but I would check if the sample models are compatible with your version of live2d. Or check if your computer system can run live2d, like check your GPU.
I want to try making vtuber models but I'm not sure if I need face tracking to rig a mini sample? I'm not planning on rigging but I thought a moving example would catch more attention...
You plan on taking commissions for the art of Live2d models? If you're planning to have a rigged example as a showcase, then rigging is the hard part, the face tracking is the easy part. You just upload the files to a free program, connect your webcam, and record your screen. What was the question you were asking XD
Yup, that's what I wanna try!
Oh it's just I don't think my phone will handle any program for the face tracking and that would be my only camera. So I was wondering if I could make the model move manually instead! Nothing fancy, just blinking lol xD
You can create animations in Live2d, so that can help you showcase your model without needing a face tracking program. I have zero experience with animations so I cant help you there!
Thank you so much! Just knowing it's possible is a great start 💖
um.. my hair color suddenly brightens, are there any tips on how to adjust the color , or do i have replace it.
yep you can adjust the color with add and multiply blend modes
This is just shows up on my recomended, and i think i already like this .-.
I'll subscribe,but sorry i'll turn off the bell ;-;
Thanks NNR!
I just installed the free version and why is the menu fonts are so frickin small? It's annoying since I can barely see anything
Hm I havent had this problem myself. Maybe check your monitor's display resolution?
how to select more than one thing at the same time? I've been trying to figure out, but I can't
shift + click to select everything or control + click to select specific items
@@KappakoChannel Thanks!
EMERGENCY! I was making a model and accidentally deleted the right eye!! How do I recover my missing eye?
Don't panic, its fine. Undo button ctrl+Z, or follow step 2 and re-import the .psd file.
Uh.. a simple question- but it's hard for me sooo
How can I make my oc bigger-
I can't see it kdkdcmdmdkdm it's so small *ahhhhhh*
use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out
How to add another part?
you can add another layer in your original psd file then import it, or you can import a new psd file with only the new part. I recommend trying the first method so you have less psd files to work with
