- The 2011 USA v. THE WORLD game featured USA Football's Under 19 National Team taking on IFAF's World Team of the best 45 international players from 16 different countries and 5 continents. It was an exciting week filled with practices, team trials, a big signing day breakfast, and of course, a thrilling contest. Shot and Edited by Jason Johnson.
football is a way of life. you idolize, you play, you coach and wish you could still be out there playing
playing on this team will be the best time of my life. GO USA!
Awesome to see young people from around the world playing america's greatest game.
it's about time ppl start realizing how great this game is and I'm not just saying that because I'm american! I'm saying that because I do believe that the game of "Football" not "Futbol" Football is a game of hardship, life, trials and tribulations, hardwork, everything you have going on in your life you can deal with that for 6 days but when gameday comes, you leave everything you have out on that field, and that is why this game is so beautiful! because it's a hard fought game! PERFECT GAME!
all those players are living the dream! I would love to play college football, I don't even care I'm just 3rd string in a team that's not that good! I just love the spirit of the college teams in America!
I have to say though I know guys who played on the world team this year and the world team is not all under 19, so I give props to the USA team for playing so good against older opponents
This needs to continue. Soon one day many years from now, football will be an Olympic sport.
Nice to see that the sport is growing so much in Europe.
American football should just be called gridiron, it's already in the name somewhere, and sounds badass.
***** agreed
No...just no
Same here bud! I play Prop/forward in Rugby, Offensive Guard/tackle, Defensive End/Tackle. Love my sports, maybe not sometimes when their both in the same day!
not a soccer fan but i like how the USA kid says American football shows hes got some respect for other sports with the football title
I think the big difference between the sports is that all soccer players outside of the goalie have very similar skill sets. With American football, depending on your position, the skill sets involved can be dramatically different. A wide receiver is all about hand eye coordination and speed versus an elite QB where vision, arm strength, scrambling ability and keeping track of many different parameters makes it one of if not the toughest to master.
Please spread this around, on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and whatever ways!
this should be more advertised. id go see this game for sure
all of you saying football isnt popular except in the US clearly are ignorant and don't realize the super bowl is the 2nd most watched sport in the world(behind the soccer world cup) and i have seen on about 50 NFL videos people say "i am not from america but i just started watching this sport and i love it"
Actually Florida and North and South Carolina are quite beautiful during the summer. Myrtle beach is amazing
We Quebecer from Canada . Won Canada Cup in the Canadian Tournament of football . And Every time there's a World tournament , Canada And USA wins everything and meet in Final . But USA wins the Final . But we're like 10millions people living in Canada , and in USA you're around 300 Millions people .. Much easier for US to pick up players and make a Dream team. And You might not know but the first Football game was played by McGill ( from Montreal,Canada ) Against Harvard ..
While listening to the mini interviews of the athletes, I can tell the all up hold a prestigious 2.1 cumulative GPA. Sports before academics. Way to go America...
People hate American Football because it's AMERICAN!
To say one sport is better than the other is purely objective and based on opinion.
The people in Cali are pretty chilled and relaxed and you have some awesome beaches and weather, reminded me of home. Went to NYC, hated it, dirty, crowded, ugly and grey and the people were obnoxiously rude.
Its easy to play soccer and basketball in third world countries , because all you need is a ball and a place to play.American football is different. You will need more than a ball to play. That the reason why poor countries dont play it.But its a beautiful game if you understand it.
We played two-hand touch and flag football when I was growing up. No pads needed, just a ball and maybe some strips of cloth tucked into your pants if you don't want to buy proper flag belts.
all the athletes on the USA team were top 10 Highschool recruits in their respective states, they are the cream of the crop, the Usa is so big they could of obviously had 3 team USAs and be just as good. And yes your absolutely right about the CFL, its true but has nothing to do with anything. im saying the future is bright, only 4 years ago team canada couldnt score a TD on USA, now canada , japan and samoa did, every1 is getting better.
American football, baseball, hockey, basketball to name a few. They're also pretty decent in soccer. I'm not american, but I think the US is the best sports nation out there (though we have to look at the fact that the US is the biggest western country populationwise)
in my school we have an all conference German kicker and a Sweish Quaterback who won the swedish nationals.
@brunoxrs Just take a look at what happened when we set up our best high school players against other individual countries' players. The US won by at least 30 points at the last junior IFAF championship. This is different than baseball because it requires serious physical contact. I seriously doubt any other country in the world can beat the US in football with the kind of athletes we have even though they don't play internationally.
Amen from Germany brother!!!
Other sports do that non stop for 90 mins except some say do it with a ball at their feet & not the far easier cradling it in their arms, also catching a ball with your hand is far easier than controlling it with your feet & you do it multitudes of time not once or twice in 3 hours. A wall street journal article found an average game was 60 mins of ads, 67 mins of players entering stadium, inactive, lying down, sitting etc, 17 mins of replays, 10 mins of stats, actual real play was 11 mins lol
its a usa game and always will be. it may spread to other countries but u should already know we gotta come back with the gold everytime. in america its more than a sport its a life and its not a choice its a demand!! "I put my heart into this shit dawg!!" ~ ed reed. that right there tells u its more than just a sport.
soo im tryin to recall where he compared American football to soccer? he was just stating how it was really cool to see other countries besides canada play the sport of American football and I myself who played the sport find this also really cool to witness
ok well they still watch the game and like ive said ive seen abunch of people from other countries say they just started watching the sport and that they love it.
I fucken love football. I sweat in football. I bleed in football. I hit in football. I've put tears sweat and I've blead in football I will never stop no matter what I've already been through the worst injury in football and that still is not stopping me
That team usa are all freshmen players in D1 right now, half of them in the FBS, Tyrann Mathieu was in team USA at the last tournament.. they are the best players
@brunoxrs The reason that the NFL, NBA, & MLB call their best world champs is due to the fact that those leauges are the best leauges in the world for their respective sport. The best players from all around the world come to America to play in those leauges because that is where the money is, and big money will almost always bring in the best talent. It is the same reason that the best American soccer players go to Europe.
@brunoxrs I agree. And the Canadian Football League (CFL) knows their champions are not on the same level as the NFL and they don't even try to pretend to be. AAMOF, the NFL helps the CFL out financially. The CFL, along with NFL Europe, is basically (to use baseball terminology) the Triple AAA of football. And I'd say the Arena Football League is Double AA. And "semi-pro" leagues around the country are Single A. (Unofficially, of course. lol)
While it is true that the UK has really developed an appetite for football, the country that plays it more than any other (excluding the US) is Germany. The game was brought over during the second world war, and since germany considered themselves a gentlemen's nation at the time, they all of their prisoners who weren't jewish continue to stick to their customs and interests. When the American's played game when they had some free time, the germans grew a real liking to it and adopted the game
@brunoxrs Well said my friend, I cant argue with those points. I would love to see more international competition. Most Americans feel the same, we would love to see it more and I think the leauges would welcome it on a small scale. Frankly its just not cost effecient nor easy for TV rating (which has a hell of a lot of power over the leauges) to have a leauge that spans 12 time zones playing regularly.
That guy is a beast.
@ConsumingFire39 do you mean because of leagel terms?? or talent wise??
Soccer requires MUCH more skill than American football does, there is absolutely no question about that.
Taking the example you used,, it only requires physical attributes such as speed, strength, agility, balance. If you are big and fast, you're on your way there already!Soccer requires you to get past men WHILST controlling a football with your feet, that requires skill, technique, control and many more attributes.
but really hard. the athleticism of pro football players is amazing. sometimes a little too amazing.
ok look im from america. ive played both american football and rugby. personally i think rugby is a better sport because the game doesn't stop after one play. it keeps going. i just wish the USA national team would be better than it is now.
@MIXEDUPTHROWNTOGETHR no, the U-19 are top highschool players with division 1 offers. my friend hunter goodwin now plays for wake forest and one of the linebackers on here now plays for USC
and I'm from Australia, born in New Zealand (The greatest rugby nation in the world). That's fair enough! but don't take away from the fact that both are good sports. It's like comparing coke and pepsi.
You's should have developed a National Rugby Program alonggg time ago. That is why New Zealand is the best in the world, we've been born and bred in Rugby since it's origins.
Thats because we have primarily small time players playing. These kids dont even play top highschool ball. There is this kid Brayden Scott who is the QB for team USA this year, and I've never heard of him even though he goes to a highschool thats 30 minutes from mine. We play 6A ball, he plays 3A.
They do do this every year =) Surprise surprise, the world won in 2012!
the U-19 team are future NFL stars..
How do I make this team coming from a new and small school?
Same can be said for Rugby Players. I mean Forwards are only good at the breakdown and supporting the runners, and backs are good at the open field and making plays in the channels. They have the option to do both, but they're only good at one -- with exceptions for some players that can do both efficiently.
But the fact that football stops after a play adds a whole new strategic aspect. How you line up will directly affect a play's outcome and how you read an opponents set can be the difference between a sack and a touchdown. So they're different, but I think saying stoppage of play detracts from football is a little silly.
Nevermind I thought this was this year. World did kick USA ass this year.
Japan, Czech, Australia, Great Britain, Dominican Republic, Italy, Spain.
lets go team world we cn do it this year!
US National Amateur Team (Cody Hawkins QB) = 21-14
US National Team (Tom Brady QB) = 107-7
Looking through the comments is completely messed up. This is a video about AMERICAN Football but all I see is "rugby requires more skill." "Soccer is so much harder". I don't play either of the sports but they do look tough just like football. Please stop complaining guys! :)
what pads are they wearing at 1:30 something?
Yeah it definitely should
What language does the team World communicate in?
how do you sign up to try to join .
@Garrett1240 It's my understanding that the players on the World Team are of a similar age. At least 4 of the world players from last year were recruited by American Universities...
A soccer player has to be able to control a ball with ANY part of his body (except his hands/arms) when it's coming at you at any angle/speed, dribble, pass, shoot, cross, head, tackle, mark, attack, defend, positional awareness etc etc. Aerican footballers have set positions and do a LOT less for a much shorter period of time (11 mins of action compared to soccer's 90). I agree that soccer is easier to pick up and just play, but it's harder to master.
I wanna know hpw to play for team usa for football!!!! :)
well that goes to show you that it is a level playing field. Imagine this like having the US U-16 soccer team play Britian's U-16 soccer team in Britian.
I go 2 the us once a year for the wsop but the more i watch there football id love 2 go 2 superbowl only the champs league is watched by more people in the world i will watch it again on tv this year i would of went if the saints got there again as thats when i really started to get into it drew brees the best qb manning 2nd tebow 3rd imo im not the most upto date on it and il never pretend to be i think ny will win this year although the highlights r on later and i dont know who won im from uk
this game should get more coverage. kind of surprsied the score was that close. ususally i find out it was a blowout
@daltontroy26 sebastian vollmer on the patriots is from germany(only one i can think of, maybe a canadian here or there), haloti ngata is from outside the US i believe. if you look deep into collge football there are international players, Boise State has about 3 players from the netherlands as an example
because players in the NFL are bigger stronger faster and hit harder.
@brunoxrs because there are teams from outside the US competing in the MLB, same with the NHL and NBA
When did this game happen?
THIS IS SO FUCKING COOL!!! They have to do this every year & American Football should be in the Olympics!
@brunoxrs I get what your saying, but soccer is a very different animal because there are so many strong leauges in Europe, that is why they have the UEFA championships. Name me one other the leauge outside of the 4 major North American leauges that comes close to the level of compitition of those leauges. Take the olympics where pro athletes are allowed to play with hockey and basketball, all of the best countires are loaded with NBA and NHL players.
yeah i know, hence the reason i didn't mention golf
interesting that there is no 2012 doco of the IFAF game....maybe they don't want to show us the World Team winning.
I realize this, pal. the implication is that these are the best athletes in their age groups which is just not true, especially for the international players.
Look at the date this was put up
Is there a place in the world that can field a better team for football?
@wilfyboy50 there is an american wordl cup, it was in 2011 in austria and the next one is in 2015 in sweden.
interviewing the world players would of been more interesting
soooo trueee...
@brunoxrs I know that baseball is big in Japan, but their best athletes still play in the MLB, the same goes with basketball and hockey which are also both very big in Europe, but the best all play in the NBA and NHL. As for gridiron football, aside from a tiny international contingent you will only find it in North America, and I love the CFL but they cannot hold a candle against the NFL when it comes to todays talent. Canada's best play in the NFL and America's NFL rejects play in the CFL.
@sportyruss i see what you're saying. but this is the U-19 team, basically amateurs as well. just with alot more exposure and experience tothe sport. i wouldn't root for the world team but i would love to see them challenge Team USA
29 seconds Aaron Greeeeeeeen! GBR!
Team Canada beat Team USA in world cup, Team World won against Team USA last year and was 50% Canadian's player
@aprioriReification Aparently you werent paying attention to the flags, or the writing on the bottom when players from other countries were getting interviewed.
It's not the same actually. Rugby have stricter rules when it comes to tackling because they don't wear pads. If you understood why American Football players wore pads, then you'd know that the force of a collision is approximately the same amount as being hit by a small car. The padding dramatically decreases the force expelled, so it's feasible to get back up again.
Fair enough, but Rugby can get boring sometimes too with the pick-and-go going nowhere, the constant kicking for territory etc.
thank u
I don't particularly like American football either, although it does have the team building and blood and sweat characteristics that a team sport should have. I prefer rugby but I am sure a Football ('merica) world cup might pass the sport to the rest of the world.
@brunoxrs most of our really good baseball players are from outside the US, they just play in the best league. Ex Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, Alfonso Soriano, Jose Reyes, Ichiro Suzuki...
all player had an revolution speed helm :DD
there was one guy who played in my team :D
#99 Riep Cologne Falcons, Germany! :D
No mention of the 2012 game when the Rest of the World team won, 35-29
@Goldih Well, many other countries pay absolutely no attention to American football...In fact, almost all of them don't!
@101TheDrake well seeing as it was the united states vs every other country on the planet, the fact that we lost by a td doesnt seem so bad, also when we went one on one with other countries we routinely beat them by 3 or more tds
Jaxon Shipley played for team USA?
@Scienceoverreligion yes indeed... *rolls eyes*
I believe if American football has developed around the world circa 1900 its enough time for an African team to dominate the game and become a challenge for Team USA.Because think about it African players who play in the NFL start playing football at the age of 12 and they always successful.
The reason why the nfl is full of black people is because people from the ghetto have no other choice than becoming a professional athlete or an artist to become wealthy. So most of them aspire to be that.
They would probably be hampered by the same infrastructure problems that stop them excelling at soccer despite the number of African stars in European leagues
More mental toughness required to play American Football? Could you explain your viewpoint? I have played both sports but for me I would say the opposite, as although the forces are greater in American Football the body protection in Rugby is MUCH less and the players can be just as big. I would say that tackling (within the rules) in rugby requires much greater mental toughness than that in football.
Am i looking right at the scoreboard ? ( 7:21 ) : team USA : 21 / The World : 14. Is it me or is it a very close score? It's a surprise to me : from what i see, on the USA side, you can find High school best players ( Juniors ) . On the other side, amateur players ( for the most part ).
I'm not going to down you or your country because you're right, american football is not dominant in other countries as it is in America. However, the best athletes as in athletic skill they definitely are. If you try to compare categories, a football player in the NFL is going to have more range then another athlete, power, speed, strength, quickness, jumping, and bigger (not height all the time but they are usually taller too, but just more physically built).
that would be pretty good but i don't think most of the country would compete, i mean how many country enter into the Olympics 30? 40? 50? i don't know but i bet only about 25 would have a football team.
@Kmagnus80 it was usfl much?
