    Great video on a confusing topic. Without the tools to manipulate solids, intersecting geometry is the only alternative (that I know of). Your video showed me exactly why my intended result was unattainable (the intersect geometry is separate). So, thanks very much for that!

    Very nice! Been struggling with how the different choices work. This will save me a lot of time. Thanks once again!

    Someday I'll leave a comment to inspire another video, but for now I'm just ingesting everything. Great work!

    This is so good!! I've been frustrated by this problem so many times!
    Thank you!

    AWESOME! Thank you. It was the intersect with model that is so tricky at times. Im beginning to see how it all works out now. Thanks for doing this. This is such a MAJOR tool to understand when modeling in su. Its pretty much exactly what solid tools does haha. Thanks again

    Jeez; thought I knew how "intersect" command worked, but now I'm more confused! Had success before through trial and error.... Nevertheless, thanks for the video!! Keep them coming! Maybe a more elaborate tutorial on intersect would help slow learners like me?

    Thanks for this video it helped me work why there are differences between the different options. Can you do a video on intersecting a dynamic component such as window and the wall? I would be super grateful

    Very well done. I think it worth adding that many extensions tend to group the final product and therefore that grouped geometry should be exploded in order to "cut the cheese" and get the desired effect. Sorry I couldn't help it. Also, in the first example geometry created will be found on Layer 0 (assuming you are working in 0) until moved or deleted.

    Saw this technique the first time during a Live build (always learn something). I've used it a couple times but this helps explain the technique. The repetition of seeing functions like these used during the Live builds is always good. What the phrase for solid tools? "Trim this from that?" 😃

      Marvin Alford Ha! That’s right!! I actually recorded this video BEFORE that happen during the live stream!

    I am usually modeling a woodworking project. I always get tripped up when two objects meet at non perpendicular angles. Example, a strawberry pyramid. Should be simple but I struggle. Plus I need to try it using your scale method to get a cut list.

    I use the intersect selection command a lot, however I find that the command can generate a lot of hidden geometry which can cause problems later e.g. when it comes to applying materials to surfaces. I think it is wise to turn on invisible geometry after using the intersect command as it usually too late to undo the damage if you leave until you decide to apply your brickwork material later.......how do I know this?.....guess.

    This is good stuff. I just love this channel. Could you do a video about dynamic components

    I alwaysvhave issues with the intersect feature. The lines come allright but they aren't all part of the surface. I have to go and draw on top of some lines for them to be part of the plane. This becomes very tedious when there are a lot of lines. Is there any other way to have every line be part of the surface?

    Intersect with model, context or selection = cheese ;-)

    How do you create non-intersected geometry (the bubbles) without grouping? In the last example, the bubbles were not “sticky” to the wedge but were not grouped. How was this done?

    • @SketchUp
      @SketchUp  3 года назад

      Edges only stick if they connect with other edges. If they are moving along an unbroken face, they will not stick.

      @@SketchUp Thanks! I’m obviously a novice at Sketchup and that is good to know.

    @5:19 what would happen if you selected with model this time instead of with selection?

    • @mykalimba
      @mykalimba 3 года назад +1

      I know I'm replying to a 7-month comment... but in this instance, "intersect with model" would yield exactly the same result. This is because the selected pieces are far away from the rest of the model.
      Now, if the selected cheese groups were resting on top of the cutting board group (with portions of the cheese partially inside the cutting board), then "intersect with model" would cause the cutting board to chop off the bottom of the cheese groups.

    Probably better to make solids and use solid tools

    • @AaronMakingStuff

      True... but then it would not be a very good example of how the Intersect command works 😉

    Great video by the way. Big fan of all your Skill Builder videos. Still a little confused on the topic of intersection. Would like to see a more practical example, for example woodworking. There is a SU forum topic (see below) that discusses this topic using a real world example. Also would be great to compare intersection with model and Solid Tools.

    Just tried out your examples. I've been doing it wrong for years. Hope my girlfriend doesn't find out lol.
