Aaron: your voice, pace, and overall laid-back demeanor is perfection for teaching! I’m learning SO much from all your videos. Before I was using the orbit tool like crazy to “command” how lines would run. Now with inferencing, it’s way easier to draw. Thank you!!!
As always, great stuff Aaron. One ingenious little discovery every week. Always look forward to them. Its people like you who make it look so simple for people like me. Thank you.
That's amazing! This is why it's so much harder for me to learn AutoCAD, solid works and fusion360. SketchUp is so easy to use I keep going back to it when I try to figure out some geometry. The only downside I have experienced is the segmented circle and arcs of SketchUp. Thank you for sharing.
Thumbs Up. I've always used the SHIFT key for this, but I feel compelled to try the down arrow for a while as that I habitually make use of the other three arrow keys every time I use SketchUp. :)
I'd like to put a coil of rope or cable onto a cylinder with an end hanging straight down and be able to rotate the cylinder and have the rope move up or down into more or less coiled rope accumulated on the cylinder and put a dynamic control to allow the viewer to lift or drop the end of the rope. It is not as easy as it sounds.
Thanks for clear video on slightly challenging topic. Question: Is there a way to reset the choice of inference line/surface - after hovered / down arrowed? (I must change to another tool, then reactivate for that).
Excellent. Slightly off topic: I tried to use the opt key (mac) to move the rectangle origin to the center but nothing happens. I can't figure out why it doesn't work.
Aaron Another excellent tip & video. May I offer a Skill Builder suggestion; Export to DWG. Although this may not be a true Skill Builder, and push against the SU paradigm, I see a real need for it. If I may elaborate. While I use SU every chance I get, I still must line the a DWG world. My clients, contractor/vendors and design professionals expect DWGs of my plans. I do not necessarily like it, but that is the way that it is. I have tried every solution, I can find, to export my SU models to DWG(DXF). No dice. The best solution to date is SU's native 3D export. However, that creates a 3D DWG file. Not usefull; I might as well model the project in the CAD program. Further, I cannot see valid reasons to port everything to Layout, then back out to DWG. I have read in the SU Blogs that others are experiencing the same issue. Sure would be great to find a solution. Thanks Again! (btw, that happen to be a BE model you used in the video?)
Ok...this is kind of a weird coincidence, but a link to your Skill Builder vid on the 3D mouse showed up after I viewed this, and in that video you said you mapped your arrow keys to the keys on your 3D mouse?... so is that an exception to what you're saying here?
No, that’s the other way around. I mapped the keys on my 3D mouse to mimic the arrow keys on my keyboard. The Spacemouse has keys that simulate the keystrokes of your keyboard.

This was a great video for me because I didn't know ANY of the arrow keys had a function in Sketchup. Thank you
Wow. Sketchup has so many amazing cool features. I have been binge watching these videos for quite some time now

Vijay Kumar Sharma Glad I could help!

Excellent thanks, been using Sketchup for years and was never aware of this.
Love these videos. These little tricks add up to allow fast modeling.

:)
Sheppard The nice thing is that the Down arrow will “lock”. No need to hold a key down (thus losing a hand... or at least a finger).
7:05 "That's a little lot further, huh?" Yup, still works. Good Stuff, Aaron!
Yoo Toob A “little lot” is kind of like a “jumbo shrimp”!
Ha, here I am thinking I'm quite the pro with the program. Always something new to learn :). Thanks for this tip!!
Great tip! Thanks for creating this video. I'll definitely use this in future designs!
This is a great tip, thank you. Just what I needed for a project I am working on now.
That was a very nice unexpected skill
Well, this was really useful and surprising how I had never seen before. Thank you.
Thanks for nice tips! It's more easily to use
Very interesting, simple explained, tutorial!
I'll be using that all the time now.
I've been using this for a while, and this totally missed my radar... thanks!!
Thanks for the reply! It's good to see the community grow.
And.. No. I have not been in the position to use the placemaker plugin yet.
So happy i drop in this channel its very helpful tools
And we are so glad to help you!
man, I love you
Excellent teaching - thanks
Who knew...great tip! Thank you
Fantastic! Thank you.
blairpettigrew And thank you for watching!
Very good - never knew that existed.
Very nice! Now if I can just remember to use it. :)
That can be a challenge!
Really helpful. Thank you so much!
Mind blown.
Awesome work man, your video are so useful, please keep doing this.
Eleanor Bisbrouck As long as there is something to show, I will make videos (and as long as it is ok with the boss...)

Greaaaaat tip for clone roofs slope!! Thx! :)
Geometra Martini Antonio Glad I could help!
You go Aaron
Awesome!!!
Thanks for clear video on slightly challenging topic.

Tapping the down arrow a second time will release the locked inference!
Very inreresting to build roofs Aaron. The principal roof has been made with BuildEdge ? I would like to find such a feature !
Bruno Lauferon Nope! Just a roof profile made with Follow Me and Intersect!
Very useful !
Hi Aaron, can you help me with a quick tip on how to plot coordinates n elevations in sketchup. I need it for modelling a road plan n profile
Nice one.
This channel is amazing
Thank you, Diego. We think YOU are amazing.

Enjoy your tutorials Aaron, have you done one on Fredo6 Animator?
Thank You very much.
Holy Crap! thank you...
David Anthony Atienza Holy Crap! You are welcome!
looks like a kennel on the roof
Thanks for this.
Thanks this will be very helpfull !
Great. How do you display the key presses on the screen?
Aaron

M Murrell Thanks! I will look into this! No BE, here. Just some Follow Me and Intersect.
Cool thanks. Can the down arrow function be mapped to a different key?
Mark Johnson Nope! It is one of the few “protected” keys

City modeling tutorials if you guys may...
Saksham Dwivedi I will add that to the list. In the meantime, have you checked out Placemaker for SketchUp?
Nice video, usefull.
if you could do videos explaining extentions one in every time or so thnx
Oussama Made Check out our Extension Inspection videos. They cover a single extension each time!
I use shift
dimitreze I used to do that, too, but started using Down when I realized that I don’t have to hold it down like I did with Shift.
Since i do not have this model of the house, does it work in 2017 pro?
I want to see if that's possible to work with bim objects back and forwards from ArchiCad an Revit families
More short cut key strokes? .?about k key
Is there a way to move component/group with arrow keys?
Abdul Rehman Not really... there is no “nudge” command in SketchUp. You can set Length Snapping in Model Info and use your mouse, though.
I want to see a video where you revoke the decision to dis-continue the free version updates
