for the people here who don't understand the story of the song, just read the text in the newspaper that start appearing at 1:41 and you'll understand lol
I mean like "pop goes the weasel" + "my boss is a weasel" kinda implies she killed her boss to me; the song has a bunch of lines like that that establish a metaphor, then other lines that carry it through with violent implications. Another example is "veins full of glitter" + "pitcher full of glitter" @@eye_cancer

( Strangely enough I think of this song as Clay as a person entirely, not sure how or why, just that this song is *him*. Like he’s perceived as nuts, insane and abusive to those in and outside of the system, but in reality he doesn’t mean to be like how he is now, he used to be a normal child until everything happened and he essentially went insane, but not enough that he’s truly ‘insane’, but just enough he’s perceived as it and too childish for his own good until he gets pushed over the edge and snaps, ending in people getting hurt and him going into a mental breakdown until he goes back to “normal” but that normal is his insanity because at this point he *can’t* live without it. Or am I just thinking too much into this? Aha- )

This song is about a singer who got a job at a candy shop. Abbi. She's currently working on a new album titled INSANITY POP that she promotes throughout the chorus of the song.
Abbi's career is starting to fall apart as the papers start talking more and more about her song theme - killing people - Mostly seen with her saying she'll fill up her boss with diesel (a type of fuel) and make him go pop.
She knows her fakeness that the others possibly ignore. She's artificially sweet, she's empty calories. Yet her fans keep saying that she's healthy. Whether that means as a metaphor for safe and okay to listen to for teens (which I'm assuming is her target audiance), or literal but about her mental health. She does indeed seem, and indirectly state, that she's on edge. And she's famous for it. The infamy, which means "being famous for something bad" or "a bad of shocking event/act". She's famous for her brutal acts mentioned in her songs.
She's obviously not mentally okay:
"My thoughts just won't stop" - gives me a feeling that she sees her thoughts as a bother, a nuisance that need to be stopped. But they can't be stopped no matter how hard she tries. They just won't.
"When I'm on the rooftop I think I'm gonna drop" - it's either suicidal ideation or her creeping anxiety of being high (popular) and getting canceled
"My world won't turn around if it stays upside down" - she's not scared. Things are already bad so they won't *become* bad *now*. But she can't fix her life, becauseif she does, it'll have the chance to get ruined again
"My pop is in the ground, i keep him safe and sound" - most likely, the pop is her fame, it's in the ground, something stable and hard.
And last but not least, the newspaper. There's stuff about some clown counsil, drinking, etc. But Idk what much to say about it, so let's talk about her lines before n after the paper.
"Cause no one reads the paper" - she doesn't care that she's talked about in the news. No one (especially teenagers) will actually read it. So why bother?
"And no one likes a hater" - not sure ab this one tbh. I think her hater is the newspaper and those who wrote it. Nobody likes a hater. Nobody likes a newspaper.

considering the shooting just happen in Iwoa the opening is really bad taste. man why a lot of vocal synth songs are cringe in terms of edginess. Why can't there be song overcoming mental issues instead of giving into them. giving into them make them much worst. I honest feel like total misfit in this fandom.
A lot of people really like songs of this... I don't think the beginning was supposed to be in bad taste, considering that the shooting probably didn't happen while the song was made... Still, I get your point. It's questionable how many people want songs like this, especially in the Western Fandom where songs like this get a looot of attention. There is a reason why "Better off Worse" exists. :') I still enjoy the song personally but I totally get your point.
Also, something I just noticed while looking at the video again, the part with the newspaper... one of the texts on the newspaper say something with "mad mad hot serial killer", which can be pretty insensitive to... you know, actual victims (and the families of said victims) of serial killers... unfortunately a lot of people lust after those people for some reason.
I'm pretty sure the song was written before the shooting in "Iwoa" and also the reason there's so many edgy songs is because people like them. If you don't it's fine just don't hate on people who do.
I can definitely see where you're coming from with this comment. If I had known that a shooting would take place literally a day after the song dropped, I don't think I would have posted it when I did. I want to defend my decision to make edgy music, but you're completely right about the opening to the song being in really bad taste in light of the recent tragedy. This probably won't make you feel better, but this EP is actually all about a fictional singer (Abbi) who makes songs all about being "edgy" and a "crazy killer" and then she gets cancelled and rethinks a lot of her actions. This song was meant to be the first 'act' of the story (if you'll allow me to be a little pretentious). But on it's own with the combination of the tragedy, it doesn't look great. I'm sorry to hear you feel like a misfit. I know that edgy content isn't for everyone, and I think people can definitely take it too far sometimes. I personally love it, but I do think there is a healthy conversation to be had about the over-abundance of "edginess" in vocaloid songs.
