    Hi, I love your show and have found it very educational, but as a 27F taking finasteride who also has epilepsy, I'm having side effects that I've never seen talked about or addressed.
    Finasteride increases seizure susceptibility in women with catamenial epilepsy since it can possibly decrease progesterone levels. I've felt this side effect but have never heard of anyone talk about it, but have seen a few research papers on it.
    I hope you read this and maybe one day talk about it.

    Could you do a video where you clarify exactly what you mean by 'stabilize?' The term is used in a number of your videos. I can't work out if it strictly means that hair loss has stopped altogether (with medication) OR if stabilizing is a broad term for slowing down but not eliminating hair loss.
    If fin/dutasteride only slows down hair loss without eliminating it, does that make you a good candidate for a transplant?

    • @SuperKoreanzombie
      @SuperKoreanzombie Год назад

      Stabilise simply means just that, there is no medicine in the world that would completely stop hair loss. That’s just nature. And each person reacts differently. They do not need to do a video based on that, simply, go on medication to try and prevent further hair loss and ‘stabilise’ your condition if what they mean

    Having to go every 5 to 10 years for a top-up implies that it's not common to totally stabilize hair loss, only to slow it down enough that it becomes manageable. If that's the case, do you recommend a daily regimen of finasteride or even dutasteride to your patients? Or is loss just an expected occurrence?

    • @christianblake3997
      @christianblake3997 Год назад

      Take it from somebody who has been fighting the good fight for nearly 20 years, the battle will eventually be won by DHT.
      It is in evitable that people who are genetically prone to male pattern baldness will lose their hair eventually that is a fact! For the last 50 years they (the hair industry) have been trying to find a cure for MPB and it’s not easy even Frank Sinatra spent a fortune on hair transplants and toupees and he was famous for trying to hide his hairline! The one thing finasteride or Dutasteride can do is slow the process down that is the best for the moment we can hope for, but even once you have slowed the process in the body through reducing DHT systemically you have to deal with the buildup of testosterone on the scalp which will attack the androgens! there is no winning formula just a continue to slow the process as even hair transplants can only go so far and then you run out of donor area! Sorry I couldn’t give you some more hopeful news!😢

But I take 5 mg of oral minoxidil every day it’s way less hassle than topical and it actually works because it goes systemic and goes into the liver where the enzymes are! About roughly 40% of men haven’t enough of the enzyme in the scalp to allow topical minoxidil to work, I know I haven’t because I was using the bloody stuff for years and I didn’t say anything! Hair cloning is needed to fix these problems. I think first we will have hair regeneration through wounding with Verteporfin injections, which will show some improvement, but likely not to the point of cosmetic acceptability.
    Even with hair cloning, I think it will often require 2 implants to get 80% normal density, just as with a typical hair transplant. The only way around this problem I can see is through an injectable to grow new hair follicles where they don't or no longer exist, which from a logical perspective seems impossible to me. I hope I am wrong. The other thing to worry about is cancer. It has been my thought that if we changed the dermal structure to contain more gamma delta T-cells, then maybe we could regenerate hair easily upon wounding as do mice. Problem is messing with this can be a cancer risk.
    It was found that hair was able to be implanted into humans in 2015 from hair organoids but they grew in odd directions. As long as the hair cycling, color, thickness and texture is worked out, the scaffolding we have now should allow for hair to grow in the correct direction but will have to be angled to work with the directions one's hair grows and where. It is complicated. I have no idea how they're going to work this all out.

If you take oral minoxidil minimum 2.5 mg per day but I take 5 mg a day you will see the benefits as it goes systemic and gets absorbed into the liver but that’s for you to choose, for me it was a no brainer having used topical finasteride and topical minoxidil none of which penetrated my scalp and just left my hair looking shit! If you go oral you will go systemic and the body will absorb the drug a lot better if you don’t then don’t expect any growth it’s that simple!!!
