I love how you do so much research on the subject
Thanks Frances, there actually weren't too many videos here that fit the criteria, I was quite surprised... It did seem to be the same creators over and over making these lists weirdly! 🤷♀️
The work you put into analysing the data always surprises me. Thank you for that. It's a little disappointing that the brands and fragrances are all expensive ones. As "life" includes old age, when many people find their income dropping and their spending habits changing (more being spent on the medicines, lotions, and potions that keep our bodies going), these RUclipsrs probably haven't thought this one through.
Thank you 😊 Yes, you're right, the choices were expensive ones. I think RUclips influencer choices are usually pretty different to the choices of the general population... I mean, where's Sauvage for a start? Montblanc Explorer did get a mention though. Maybe this is why clones are a growth area? Thanks for watching 🥰
No surprises this time 😂, with the exception that I thought that the fragrances that were hyped five years ago are still going strong. New releases just tended to be copies of the fragrance DNAs that everyone seemed to love.
Yup, I was a bit shocked by how well PDM did... But I guess they are likeable. That Aventus DNA did well here, actually the CDNI dupe got mentioned a bit too! I'm happy Dior Homme and its flankers were high up 😊 have a fab Saturday and Eurovision 🇪🇺
I think men fragrances need to be more diverse 😅
Yes and the women's list could do with some more diversity away from vanillas 😂
Creed is talked about so much in my circle of men so when my hubby fell deeply in love with a creed Aventus inspired by dossier I wasn’t surprised other than that I’m shocked that there aren’t more affordable designer fragrances
I’m not that familiar with parfum d Marlo
I think men in general get comfortable with a fragrance and dont change them out as much as we do
Great video as always Clare
Hugs ❤❤
Yes, that Creed Aventus DNA is prominent in this top 10, arguably two other fragrances channel that style with slight tweaking. I just think it's quite appealing and loved and for sure, with that fragrance, there are so many good clones out there to try ☺️ thanks for watching, have a lovely weekend 🥰
Hi Claire, great video! I wouldn’t say most of these came as a surprise but I’m kind of surprised that men aren’t too keen on new releases.
I love Dior Homme Intense. I don’t care for Aventus, Baccarat Rouge, or Erba Pura. I don’t understand the hype. I like Herod; I have a decant.
Same! I really loved the original Dior Homme, if I'd have tried that when it was on the market, I would have bought it and worn it, it was stunning!
I haven't tried Erba Pura, I only have a clone, which I didn't enjoy, but who knows with the original 🤷♀️ BR540 always makes me think of my friend's judgement on it as it being "unsuitable for a ninja" because it is just there for days and nuclear 😂 I can't say I loved Herod, but there's a lot of iso E super there and I struggle with that, I could tell without that aspect it would likely be something I'd enjoy and I know it's loved in general. Thanks for watching 🥰
Daunting task putting this together and you did a phenomenal one 👍❤️
Enjoyed this
Thank you 😊
Thank you Claire.
No worries! It was requested lots! Weirdly there weren't as many videos to get data from for this though... I'm not sure why that was. Thanks for watching 🥰
This here is what i call a content. This was fantastic to watch. I'm subscribing right away.
Thank you! I'm happy that you enjoyed it. 🙂
What an interesting video, Claire! 🥰I'm surprised there aren't more designer fragrances on the list.
Me too! It was very mass market niche overall! Thanks for watching 🥰
Very interesting! I know nothing about men's fragrances, so it was really educational.
Thanks 🥰 happy that you enjoyed it ☺️
Hey Claire I love your curls! ❤ wow love the work you put into creating these videos! That a lot of videos to watch lol 😉
Thanks, I fancied a change so I had it cut a lot 😂 yep, sooo many videos and a bit of misogyny to get over too 😂
Hey Claire. I love when you do these research projects. It really shows there is a difference between the gals and the guys.
Thanks Faith! Have a lovely Sunday 🥰
Claire! Your hair looks lovely, as do you (as always!)
I thought for sure Ryan would have at least ONE of the fragrances on your list, but I think I need to get my shopping on!
This is another example of why you're the best at this!
Thank you ❤️ I had it cut as I thought it might be easier and it is!
I think Ryan is elevated above the popular stuff 😉 but for sure there are some ones to try here that might be universally pleasing in some way... I'm never really sure what these analyses mean? 🙃 Happy Tuesday Julija! ❤️
Lovely video as always, greatly appreciate the effort you put into your content. I haven't heard of Argos before, will defiantly check it out. Would be interesting to know which of the RUclipsrs recommended it.
Thank you ❤️ that's lovely to read! I have the list, so the people recommending that one were Tazzo the Reviewer, Dedrick Hicks JR and TLTG Reviews. Hope that helps. 🥰
That's some serious research! Love your hair 😍
Thank you! 🥰
Thank you Claire 😊
Thanks Yulia! Enjoy Eurovision later if you are a fan 🇪🇺
I know it would be tricky to account for this, but it would be interesting to break this down by the age of the individuals making their top ten just to see if there was variation.
At least as far as the masculine side of things go, it seems as though fragrance trends stagnated when algorithm-driven culture solidified itself. Correlation or causation?
Yes, if I had a bigger dataset it would for sure! And I bet the trends would be different, I think the videos ranged quite widely in ages, from around 20s to around late 50s.
I agree, I think there are just certain fragrances from certain brands that become pushed... In my experience, those tend to be the ones that most disappoint me when I get to try them. 😂 And constantly chasing numbers and popular videos is not the way to a great channel, you need to do what interests you. Being bigger faster shouldn't be the aim if it's your hobby. But yep, we know for a lot of people it's not just a hobby... Thanks for watching 🥰
I was going to suggest the same! 😅
@@jackiejlw5493 👍
I'm surprised Parfums de Marly made it to number one,
I expected Dior !
Also surprised that men don't buy as much new releases as women do!
You look so sweet as always🌹😍
Me too!!! I know the best seller would likely be Sauvage but I guess this is influencers not the real world so it's never what we expect 🤣 thanks for watching and I hope you are well 🥰
Hey Claire! You’ve been watching a lot of videos 😂 I love your hair 💜
I have! 🤣 Thank you 🥰
Love Cedrat Boise ❤ I enjoy the vanilla, leather citrus play here.
It's clearly very popular! ☺️
Good morning Clare ❤☕️
Hi Frances ☺️
I love that you and Aaron Terrence Hughes bring science into the RUclips fragrance world. Really makes your videos stand out and very interesting to watch
Thank you! And wow, I really like ATH too! He's very cool to watch! 😊
Interesting Claire, thank you. Aventus, sigh, men are consistent. I wear some men's fragrances, I have DHI and the parfum version glad they're still popular, another one I love is Chanel Egoïste, but I know it flies under the radar and was a flop in the US when released, I was lucky and got a vintage bottle for its Mysore sandalwood, with its sweetness I find it totally unisex.
One person did mention Platinum Egoïste actually but the original didn't get mentioned. I've not tried Egoïste, but I will now! It sounds nice. ☺️ Same 🤣 Aventus 🤦♀️ and two others with a similar DNA 🤦♀️ but at least it's slightly more interesting than the vanilla heavy women's list. 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰
Thank you, Claire. You did a lot of work for this video! I don’t have as much knowledge about men’s fragrances. One of my son’s buys Prada. One likes a scent from Michael Kohrs but they will usually wear anything I buy for them. My husband generally wears what I buy too. I wonder how many men choose their own fragrance or if the women primarily buy them. 🌸
Ooh does your son wear Prada Luna Rossa? That one has been very popular!
I think women's choices for men must be a big part of the market and massively affect general sales. If you look at the biggest sellers, likely Dior Sauvage, these don't feature in influencer lists as I guess they want to look less mainstream so ironically the lists here don't reflect the choices of "man on the street" at all. I would love to see actual sales figures for these fragrances 😂 I bet most general fragrance wearers haven't heard of most of them and likely sales are consequentially very low. Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfumehe does wear Prada Luna Rossa. He also likes another Prada fragrance. Thank you for an excellent video!
Prada have some nice ones. ☺️ Thank you!
So interesting Claire! I don’t really follow the men’s fragrance scene but yet all of these were ones I have heard of often. Funny that there weren’t many newer releases in the mix! Maybe these scent profiles just keep getting done again and again so people like to stick with the tried and true ones!
Me neither really... this was just requested by quite a few people so I thought I'd make it!
I think there's some truth in that about the scent profiles! Have a fab Sunday 🥰
Marly makes wearable niche product, Initio is more occasional imo (best highlighted by their catalogue having 0 summer fragrances). I'd be more surprised by Xerjoff being that low since their catalogue is very wide. I was expecting the top 2 to be Aventus and Layton, forgot about DHI. To me, it seems that the top of the men's daily wear fragrance market is concentrated into that citrus-aromatic/fruity chypre profile vs. the winter scents being more diverse. If you sum up the aggregate of Hacivat, Aventus and Cedrat Boise, that's 10 votes for the Aventus profile. The Carlisle/Triumph of Bacchus profile similarly gets 6 votes.
I will say: Argos and Roja are known for PR on those more popular scent segments, and availability of brands like Nishane and Mancera on discounters is extremely high (contrast that to PDM/Initio/Xerjoff who aren't). With that said, I was definitely expecting a Layton or Naxos to make the list.
Yes! Fab analysis ☺️ I was surprised that Xerjoff weren't higher here too and yes, weirdly Layton was only mentioned once or possibly twice... PDM choices were very split overall though, they got a lot of mentions on many different fragrances. It seems like everyone has their own favourite.
Yes, I noticed the Aventus DNA thing, I guess it's a solid choice as an alternative to vanillas. I think more expensive fragrances choosing to maintain their pricepoint or being more available via discounters is likely to have a big effect on the choices for smaller creators especially. Thanks for watching 🥰
Fully watching my dear friend
I enjoyed watching your video
Thank you 🥰
These top ten lists really highlight why it's important to just find one or two reviewers who resonate with and ignore the rest.
For me, it's a hard pass on most of these fragrances
Yes, finding people that you can interact with and read what they are saying is helpful. Shared tastes can be great, but really what is needed is that you can relate their tastes to your own and see what you might enjoy and what not from what they are saying. I guess too what's consensus is often not what would work for one person's taste, nor stand out, as from the nature of this study, the fragrances are perhaps likely to be less challenging/interesting than others or have popular DNAs.
Thanks for watching 🥰
@dr.claire.perfume Yep, that makes a lot of sense, and these top 10 videos are great for noobies.
@@joelalvarez2090 absolutely! A good starting point 🙂
I loved this! I have a question for you. I have struggled to figure out what makes a perfume masculine? I wear quite of few of these fragrances but I have to “adjust” some of them. They lean too “masculine” on me. Some of them, Dior Homme Parfum for instance, don’t need to be “adjusted” at all. I like “Hacivat” quite a bit but I have to soften it or it smells too ”masculine”. I find some of these fragrances, some Fougeres perfectly unisex. I’ve worn some great vintage colognes and I love them on me. I just can’t figure out what makes a fragrance masculine to me. What are your thoughts?
Thank you ❤️ I think I struggle with this question too, because I really try not to gender fragrances at all with how I present them. I absolutely hated titling this video male fragrances but I had to make it clear this was a different video to the one that I made before.... But also I understand that most people do smell gender in fragrances. If you watch me often, you will notice that I never say this leans masculine etc. because, to me, it's all personal taste and really society, different societies see fragrance differently, so making a judgement is going to be entirely dependent on your life experiences and also the marketing of fragrances around you. For me, the biggest difference in male marketed and female marketed fragrances in general is their use of iso E super. I rarely smell it in female marketed fragrances, but I smell it a lot in male marketed fragrances. I absolutely hate iso E super so this bothers me. 🤣 But again this is just fragrance companies deciding that they should put iso E super in male marketed fragrances and not in female marketed fragrances... If I try to divide other individual notes, it's ridiculous, I guess we could look at this like food preferences, e.g. is steak a masculine food? Is eating a strawberry feminine?
I also really like Hacivat! I ran through a little sample of it and I really liked the original Dior Homme too... I need to go try the newer flankers. Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I try not to gender fragrances too but my brain puts them in a slot but not all of them. Maybe it is something to do with how E super shouts and kind of leaps off the skin? Fragrances I love, seem to fall into me even as I fall into them. Fragrances I like, seem to hover around me. Thank you for sharing your musings. Take care 💜
@@catherinelynnfraser2001 yes, I guess it could be! Amberwood is another one that tends to bother me, that is used in both, but more male marketed. They are just loud and have a lot of texture, I have this weird thing that I prefer fragrances that feel smooth in general, although I have one in my collection that makes me think of the texture of bicarb and I really like that 😂
I think your distinction of the feelings of like and love is spot on 👌 the loves just meld don't they! 🙂
I have own and smelled few Nishanes and I think Hacivat is much superior than the current Aventus formulation in terms of projection, longevity and sillage. What i like about Hacivat is you can layer it with other Nishane eg Hundred Silent Ways and Wulong Cha. So can get 7 possible permutation of scents with 3 fragrances. They are true compliment getters as well. Nishane Ani X and Nerf are also exceptional.
I’ve tried few PDM, and I think Oajan suits my skin chemistry well. Harod and Layton are just average to me.
At first I was quite suprised why Roja Dove is dubbed as Professeur de Parfum in the world of perfumery since this is industry is highly dominated by French people/ houses. Then i know why. He was offered a job by Robert Guerlain himself and had worked with Guerlain for 20 years. Some ot his cologne are quite mature scents and smells so expensive like Elysium and Enigma. Diaghilev is one of his chypre masterpiece and it is more interesting than Mitsuoko. Sweetie Aoudh is very likeable perfume especially for women and someone has said it smells better than Oud Satin Mood.
Yes Tom Ford have many interesting perfumes choices for both men and women alike. What i can say about Amouage is that they used very high quality ingredients and smells expensive like Roja Dove. However some of their creation are quite challenging to wear.
@@catherinelynnfraser2001 I *think* fragrances for men feature more calones? I do feel like certain smells have become coded masculine. Surprising to me was that women and men shared fragrances more, say in the 19th century.
This is so interesting!❤ I found a fragrance for my husband (Hugo Boss) in a canteen bottle.:) I do try to smell some of the popular fragrances in store. I like more fresh, less musk. Some spice good too. Very interesting to know what the rest of the world is wearing ❤
Oh my friend bought that one for her husband too! I know the one you mean, she showed me it before she wrapped it ☺️ fresh is nice, especially in the warmer weather, it smells clean! 🫧
As always, thanks for watching 🥰
Herrod is a great fragrance. I’m not surprised about PDM being more popular than Initio. PDM seems to have more popular fragrances. Great video. 💜
Thank you ❤️ Yes PDM have a more diverse range I think, something for everyone. 🥰
Hello Claire Smith 😊
You're most requested video ever? 😱 Wow.
I have made my top ten for life twice 🤣 mine were pretty much the same
Haha Jon! I know, sometimes we just like what we like and knocking something out of our top 10 is going to be pretty hard. But I guess if you need to please who's sending you stuff, you might suddenly change your mind for one video 😉
🤣 Depends on how much 😉
@@scentedsnowdrops 🤣
Hi Claire, happy Saturday! After spending time on the Reddit fragrance sub, I notice numerous requests along the terms of "do you thinK, as a guy, I can wear xy or z?" They're probably new to fragrance, and once they give themselves for permission, their tastes expand into more niche and/or 'feminine' scents(?) Regarding sales v video lists, I'm surprised YSL wasn't mentioned. My son wears Y. It's lovely! ✨
Actually a few people did mention Y and the flankers, there just wasn't a consensus on which one in particular they seemed to enjoy 😂
I agree, it's personal taste and people shouldn't go by the marketing and the labelling, they should just try them 😊 I think you're right, as people spend more time with fragrance, their taste branch out a bit. I really hated labelling this video as "for men" as what I mean is really what make creators are talking about. The language around fragrance isn't easy sometimes. Thanks for watching 🥰
The only male fragrance I like is Fahrenheit by Dior and there was one I liked when I was in middle school, a pretty affordable one called Pino Silvestro, of which I was enamored with the bottle which was shaped like a pine.
That shape would make a lot of sense given the name, isn't that close to the Latin name of Scot's pines? Fahrenheit is a classic for sure, I think that one gets a lot of love. ☺️
No surprise that Zerjoff Erba Pura made the top 10. At first it was irritating to me but then it was like a light switch! I had to have it.
I've only smelt a clone sadly so I can't comment on Erba Pura, but it's certainly very popular 🥰
Please do another video for women's fragrances
Hello! ❤️ I did the equivalent video for women's fragrances about three weeks back, it's here, but maybe you already saw it: ruclips.net/video/KzUGPJVJlSo/видео.htmlsi=R_4dCnUYbiFl0l8V
I'm surprised not seeing Dior Sauvage up in the list 😅 that perfume it's everywhere and people are sick of smelling it 😅 thanks for the video ! Cheers !
Oh this is so so weird! So absolutely no one named Sauvage as far as I remember, I really thought that was super odd! Because Sauvage is the bestseller isn't it? Maybe it's just too common to be cool? Not sure! 🥰
A “Top Ten For Now” list is easier to live with. 😂
It is! It's really hard sometimes to decide what to put in these top 10 for life lists! You have your core favourites but the debate is there which should be included and which not. 🙃 Thanks for watching 🥰
I was surprised to see this video pop up on your channel. I watched it completely, but I must say that I'm not surprised much by the list and, for a few reasons, I wonder what it signifies. First, as you mentioned, the list is populated largely by US creators, so it likely primarily reflects *RUclips creators* content in the US and not necessarily men's preferences in the US. I say that because, though I don't know which channels you included, I know that I've seen several creators whose genuineness in their choices for top ten lists I questioned because I wonder how much sponsorship has influenced their current top 10 video, and therefore I wonder at the motivation behind creating the list. Is there an ulterior motive (e.g. money, more clicks?), or is this list truly genuine? This is especially true for those who have multiple top ten lists in less than a year. I've also noticed the tendency for some creators to attempt to account for everyone's tastes in describing or characterizing a fragrance rather than simply stating whether and why the fragrance is attractive to them. I believe this is ostensibly to avoid offending anyone so we'll watch to the end of the video. However, I choose to watch a particular creator(s) because I've gleaned an idea of their tastes in fragrances and how they present themselves to the world in general, and I've determined where we are similar so that I can know how to interpret their comments about a fragrance in my effort to understand if I'll like it. That becomes impossible with some creators because of this tendency to address everyone's tastes. So does your research reflect genuine opinion? Or the manufacturer who paid creators the most to promote their fragrances? Or the creators who want the most clicks? It's hard to know. But it was interesting to watch you apply a scientific approach to the topic.
Absolutely, you are spot on! This is not top 10 for the general public at all is it? If that were the case, Dior Sauvage and YSL Y would be here rather than a load of niche fragrances that most people, outside of this space, have never heard of. Influencer choices are very very different to sales figures. And yes, absolutely this will be influenced by PR, even if the videos themselves aren't sponsored.
I also agree that most people would not choose solely from one scent profile, even if that were their preference. This really does show how hard it is to tell the wood from the trees when it comes to these kinds of videos. I think you are spot on that you need to find someone you can relate your own taste to so you can take some useful info away from videos. ☺️
Thanks for watching 🥰
Fascinating as always and honestly, as a dude, little surprises here, esp with Mancera. You know Cedrat Boise Intense was my first still only niche and I still love it lol. (BTW, everyone I watch thinks there's an accent mark on the E)
One thing I noticed is how I think "men" centric fragrance content seems different than "women" centric content. (using the quotes we know a scent isn't inherently gendered)
We seem to be way more obsessed with performance and value and I think are more open to clones as a result, treating the term dupe as a subset of clones which encompasses dupes, inspired by, and twists.
In some ways, I resemble this list in that it has like 3-4 solid Aventus/DNA fragrances and I have like half a dozen myself and they are nearly all rather distinct from each other and the OG. I have no shame, I am a fan :) (I see those comments groaning lol)
Ooh there could be, it could mean wooded rather than woods, I was wondering why there was an e as Bois is wood in French! That makes a lot of sense, and accents aren't put over capitalised words so the label makes sense too! Thanks 😊
I agree, I think men are more open to the idea of clones, or at least accepted them earlier on than women have done.
As to Aventus etc, you like what you like, I ran through a sample of Hacivat very quickly so I clearly enjoy that style too to some extent 😂 happy Sunday and thanks for watching 🥰
I have a roja Dove perfume, Amber Aoud, that does not last long. It is wonderful to begin with.
That's a shame, but hopefully it's enjoyable whilst it's around 😊
Hey Claire, I’m interested 😅
Hey Rose! ☺️
Wow, I actually have 2 of the top ten (Interlude Black Iris and Dior Homme Intense). I was a bit surprised that this leaned so heavily toward niche fragrances. I have tried Aventus so many times but there is something in it that just makes me queasy. Another excellent video, Claire!
Me too! I was expecting some more classic designer to be in there! I've not tried Interlude Black Iris, only Interlude. The Dior Homme line seems very loved. Hmmm, so if you don't like Aventus, do you have any Aventus-like DNA kinds of fragrances in your collection or is the whole genre a complete no? Have a fab Sunday 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I think it's the whole DNA! I do have one that people on Fragrantica say smells like Aventus, which is Electimuss Imperium. I can see some similarity. Oddly, though, it also makes me a bit queasy and I will probably at some point declutter it. 😄
I had one fragrance that was supposedly a little inspired by Aventus and it really didn't suit me, the one time I wore it, I felt like I smelt like a urinal. It got decluttered pretty quickly 😂 I need to smell all those Electimuss, Jon and I were talking about a joint video on them all 😊
@@dr.claire.perfume I support a joint Claire/Jon video on Electimuss. 😊 I don't really know that house very well, tbh, and I for one would find it useful!
Noted! 👍
im not surprised there arent many new fragrances in the list. i think a lot of guys arent looking to be unique or individual when it comes to fashion. they are looking for what will make them attractive to other people, which means gravitating towards what other men have had proven success with. i suspect there are way more women who wear fragrances and dress for their own enjoyment, so theres more variety.
its a little like suits or male fashion in general. sure you have guys who are very bored by our clothing and wish there was more variety like women have, but a ton of guys dont mind at all. theyre totally okay with sticking with what they know for sure will make them look nice.
I think in the world in general for sure people just go with what they know a lot of the time, but on YT I'd expect more diversity really. I guess the way I get a consensus list only really captures the overlaps, so the individual more unique and interesting choices get lost. That is probably where the gold is for people who want to smell unique I think! Thanks for watching 🥰
It’s not on the list but my favorite fragrance of all time is Montblanc explorer. Citrus, Fresh, clean, sweet, aromatic, woody. It’s very masculine and I’m a man. I like masculine scents. Can’t stand gourmand fragrances. Don’t understand why guys want to smell like a cake, or coffee, or dessert. Very weird they want to smell very sweet.
I actually recommended that one to a friend who said he didn't like fragrance and would never buy one... He tried it and bought it 😂 it's fab value too now.
I guess it's personal taste with gourmands... I'm not a big fan of them, but one I rate, a more grown up gourmand is Akro Dark, I really love that and it's subtle really because it's mainly patchouli. Perhaps give that a go if you get chance. Thanks for watching 🥰
Yes I was gonna say 🤣 Amouage "more popular" on RUclips in lockstep with the PR 🤔
PDM 😆
Also the fact they aren't or weren't part of the super conglomerates would also imply more PR... Not a good or bad thing. But all the ones bar Mancera u mentioned are all ones that went thru their PR cycle
I think so 😉 and yes, Chanel and Dior aren't going to send "Mr Fragrance" on YT their latest releases are they? I do think a lot of these brands have helped themselves up this list with a bit of PR. 🧐
@@dr.claire.perfumenoooo 😱 as if 🤣 but yes indeed
🤣
Watching this and it suddenly dawns on me that the best thing that can happen to a frag designer is getting cloned. I even feel like I have to buy Bleu De Chanel and Aventus because I hears so much about their clones. That's a list you should do: most cloned fragrances. Also, I keep hearing that Creed Aventus is a "men's fragrance for other men." Only other men are impressed and women just pretend to like it because they like when men buy expensive stuff.
Yep, being cloned is a sign of popularity! It must be a weird kind of flattery for a perfumer 🤣 what an interesting list that would be, I bet BR540 would be there and Angels' share.
I have heard that about Aventus too! I can't say I love it, but I don't think I'm typical either so I'm not sure 😂 Thanks for watching!
Dr Smith, my sudden appreciation and affiliation for fragrances is like the neglected child of my olfactory senses. Like a light switch, I am captivated. What is going on with me? Can you please help? There is much more to my story. I am 65 years old. I would tell you personally.
There's a lot to explore and I think me too to some extent, when I was younger I didn't have the spare cash to afford more than one fragrance at a time, then 5 years ago, it just became an obsession! It can really take over you with little warning! Enjoy it! ☺️
Roja and PDM are not shy of spraying it around so much that would make a Tom Cat blush. Arguably, the gifting of free bottles skews results more than a gin party at a "pocket borough" compounded by starting with effectively a rotten borough. By the way, which channel was in India?
🤣 yes they send quite a bit of PR 🙊 and yes, I think this list has been influenced by that for sure. The channel based in India was Radhul Sidwan. Thanks for watching 🥰
Are you doing something different with your hair? As another curly girl, I love it!!
Thanks! I just had it cut, I think it's curlier when it's shorter as there's less weight to it. I just put some curl cream on and finger curl it when it's nearly dry. Curls do what they want don't they?! 😂
Well it looks great ❤ love the channel
@@mariavankley423 thank you ❤️ I am always so happy whenever people enjoy the videos ☺️
Not a fan of Creed Aventus. The only others I've smelled are Herod & Dior Homme Parfum - both lovely. Thanks for all the effort in creating this content!
Thank you ❤️ yes, Herod is very popular I think! I see it in lots of videos in the winter. 🥰
I'm shocked that PDM's Layton was not on the top 10 fragrances list? Layton is their flagship superstar fragrance. I'm shocked that Roja Oceania made the list because very few people hype that.
Also PDM/Initio was acquired by Advent International last year and L'Oreal is acquiring Amouage.
Yes, me too, Layton has been so successful! I think the PDM vote got split thought between lots of fragrances as I said in the video, I think maybe everyone likes different ones! Layton was mentioned just not more than once or twice. Pdm was one of the most diversely mentioned brands, i.e. the most different fragrances name checked.
I was surprised by Oceania too actually, but I do know from friends that Roja give out a lot of PR so that might have helped.
Yes those Initio and PdM are owned by Advent, who seem to have concerns in lots of other industries, including aerospace and defence/arms.
Is it for sure that L'Oréal are acquiring Amouage now? I thought there were just discussions so far. Do you know if it was announced that they've reached a deal? Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume Sorry you are right L'Oreal is looking to just purchase a minority stake in Amouage. I was thinking of Estee Lauder who has a history of acquiring fragrance brands (e.g. recently acquired Tom Ford).
Regarding Layton not making the list .. I suspect reviewers have grown tired of hyping it, which is ironic because the male reviewers are still overhyping Creed Aventus. I think for similar reasons Dior Sauvage (including the flankers and newer Elixir) didn't make the list although it's clearly the most popular in sales.
Yep, even Y, which everyone seemed to be talking about at one point only got two mentions. Sauvage I don't think was mentioned once. I guess it's just not hip to mention the bestsellers, it makes you look mainstream 😂
I'm still wondering how much Amouage will change in the future, their latest collections have been very friendly and they've discontinued some classics as well as relaunched some of the older collections. It will be interesting to watch!
Looks like on the men's side there might be a bit more consistency and less chasing of bright new shiny fragrances... Then again, there's always seemed to be way more fragrances and marketing made towards women... Not surprised to see Adventus and Dior Homme.
I actually have no idea what the split is, I feel that with men's designer, fewer fragrances dominate the market overall. With niche, I'm not so sure. And as to the numbers marketed and their longevity on the market, again no idea. It would be interesting to find out! 🥰
@dr.claire.perfume Then again, there's been so many gourmands coming out. A type of fragrance marketed more to women. I doubt that on men's aimed channels, RUclipsrs talk of syrupy vanillas, fluffy marshmallows, or luscious caramel scents to their audience. 🤨 Super florals, fruity florals and and rose scents aren't talked about in men's channels... Women's channels also seem to talk more about unisex fragrances than men's channels. I checked out a lot of men's fragrance content a little over a year ago, and it seemed they had less fragrance categories to talk about: aquatics, citrusy, freshies, woodsy, spicy... Women also have all those categories, it seems, and more.
Yes, I see that, there's more diversity but still that focus currently on gourmands. You are spot on! I need to watch more male content, I really don't watch many channels at all and most that I watch just discuss unisex niche. 😊
I didn’t know Marley and Initio were sister brands 😮
They like to keep it on the down low 😉 in fact influencers have had PR withdrawn as a result of mentioning the connection, there's a video by Extra Gents Scents about brands that dropped him and why and that's one of them. Advent also owns arms companies too, eg. Cobham and Ultra Electronics. It's a troubling connection for me.
@@dr.claire.perfume oh wow, I’ll be digging deeper myself, how interesting
@@yourfragrantfriendj3986 👍
Yup! I kinda see PDM as gateway easy to like collection and Initio as a bit more in your face collection (at least, for the "feminine" fragrances...). Even many PDM marketed for men are enjoyed by women though.
@@CatherineBriseboisCatWoods I can see it 👍🏾
Absolutely never understood the hype around Creed Aventis.
When I finally got around to trying it, I was bitterly disappointed in every way.
It's just nothing in my opinion.
It's odd to me how it's so popular still but it does also seem a bit love or hate. Plenty of people aren't fussed by it. I guess pineapple was unusual when it was first released at least. Thanks for watching 😊
great analytic video! but I will never uderstand why people acctualy believe any of these content creators, there is not a single decent fragrance here maybe accept for Dior Homme but again only in silver stem version, aventus but from pre 17 batches and interlude black iris. Those are only decent ones here. And I just refuse to believe that people feed off of these liers that just get paid by the companies to speak about their fragrances. Fragrance community is doomed.
Thank you ❤️ I do think that for larger channels these lists will be heavily influenced by PR and affiliate income. I can't say I'm a huge PDM fan (crazy amounts of ambroxan and iso E super for me) but others seem to love them. I think the thing that strikes me is that the Aventus scent profile seems to be generally liked and fragrances interpreting that also did well here. Thanks for watching 🥰
Hahahaha I've just asked about mens' fragrances video 2 hours ago XD
Voilà! I'm super quick 😂
Dior Homme Intense a little overrated IMO. Dior Homme Parfum is in a different class though. Unsurpassed
I should go try to the parfum! Thanks 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume real fragheads rate it highly. Some call it the best designer fragrance ever. While ostensibly masculine a woman could rock it too I reckon!
I'd have been very happy to wear the original Dior Homme if I'd tried it before it had long gone, so I can well believe that. 😊
@@dr.claire.perfume You can still buy it, renamed Dior Homme Original. I have it and it smells good to me but I've no idea if the formulation is different to when it first came out 🤷🏻♂️
Oh yes, I've tried that one, I didn't get the same magic unfortunately. Perhaps my memory of the sample has faded enough for me to go back and try it again though ☺️
Amouage moving up the lists is why L'Oréal are sniffing around for a cut. 😢
You're right. They are getting noticed. 🥰
I think male reviewers tend to include a few "honourable mentions" in their lists😂😂.
Clearly 😂
All those youtubers with over represented Niche fragrances means they are all on the take. it's meaningless when the green buys you influence(r)
I think affiliate links and PR have skewed this list somewhat... I think you have to assess each reviewer individually to know how much you trust their opinions Vs biases. Thanks for watching 🥰
If they were on the take it would be just the opposite right? Because the designers have a LOT more money to buy reviewers off? If you look at the top selling men's fragrances each year by volume of sales they are all designers (not a single niche brand except maybe Creed because of their inflated prices). I once read that there is a bottle of Dior Sauvage sold every 3 seconds. At $160 per bottle that's almost 5 million dollars per day!!!
@@bernardtalbert6729 perhaps...but i don't know their economics..big designer house use Johnny Depp-types they don't need "cheaper" youtube influencers, look at the well known family connection for a certain PDM/INITIO YT influencer , I think Claire put a voice to what we all should know in one of her videos
@@mymy4110 on second thought I think you may have a point in regards to Roja Oceania making the list. Everybody hyped Roja Elysium but Oceania which is significantly more expensive making the list was a shock to me. I know a few reviewers who covered it and they all got free bottles.

Male fragrance influencers and fragheads seem focused on prestige brands. Maybe it’s the masculine tendency to want to ‘flex’, as the young people say. Maybe I’m way off, but that’s what it seems like to me 😂. It’s like who drives the coolest and most popular car kind of thing. This doesn’t apply to all male fragheads, of course. But, yes, Creed obsessives abound in the fragrance groups I belong to on Facebook 😂, 99 percent of them are dudes.
Yes, from watching a lot of those videos, a lot of people were discussing how expensive a certain fragrance was in their top 10 so I do see that almost aspirational brand trend there! And for sure, Creed is much bigger with men than women. Have a fab Sunday. Thanks for watching 🥰
3.5 million. That must be Jeremy. He is no longer right in the head.
It was Real Men Real Style actually, I think it's a general interest channel that sometimes talks about fragrances, that might explain their highest subs. I do agree though, Jeremy is probably who most people think of as the biggest. Thanks for watching 😊
@@dr.claire.perfume It is but Antonio is way more knowlegable in fashin than fragrances but okay, he will hit you with 10 frags that work. Generally, I fouod that the blue trio, Acqua di Gio Profondo, Sauavge and Bleu de Chanel can cover any weather, any occasion, any dress code any season, day or night time. I was chase by people to ask me what I was wearing. More than other frags. The ultimate date frag... la nuit de lhomme. It was a hot toppic until they ruined it 6 years ago. It was on almost all lists and for a reason.
I have a sample of vintage la nuit de l'homme, it's nice ☺️
I'll be honest I'm not remotely surprised at all. There's a complete lack of anything remotely interesting. Videos made by Bros for Bros. Don't dare to step outside what's vastly popular unless it's something hyped through PR.
It's very sad but not surprising at all. This could be a video idea, but I know how hard it is to get actual sales figures but I do doubt the best selling fragrances have much corrolation to influencer top tens. Black Iris may appear in lists but it's never spoken about. Personally for me literally the most disappointing fragrance from Amouage. Not cos it's bad cos it's not but it's so similar and completely pointless despite it being hyped by one influencer as being Interlude with Dior Homme 😆😆 I mean that opens so so many questions about that influencer
Yes I would love to get my hands on some actual sales figures. That would be amazing. I don't think most people will have even heard of Amouage let alone Interlude Black Iris outside of the fragrance space on YT, which let's face it, is a small slice of the world that wears fragrance...
I think smaller brand niche just isn't a thing on YT for the most part, and that probably concentrates choices to particular popular fragrances. If influencers want to use affiliate links the companies have to be of a size to support that. Also because of the international audience of YT, those fragrances need to available across multiple countries, which smaller brands often aren't. It's a shame and actually I was shocked by how US based these lists were... Hardly any creators are making those videos elsewhere. 🤷♀️
@@dr.claire.perfumewell I guess the rest of the world doesn't get the bottles free bottles to put in the lists.
