Claire, your videos are soooo different from what we usually see on YT. I respect that so much! I will say it again: you are a niche youtuber. So original! Congrats!
Thank you! ❤️ I try 🤣 I had to have a week off because my laptop broke unfortunately... I'm still trying to get someone to recover my files that I very stupidly hadn't backed up fully 🤦♀️ how are you?
1.Since Parfums de Marly and Initio are sister companies, it makes perfect sense that the formula for Delina and Atomic Rose are so close, and perhaps the latter is built in part from the former. No perfumer is attached to Atomic Rose, so I don't know if Quentin Bisch reprized his role with Delina here in Atomic Rose, but the shared DNA is clear. 2. "I do find Delina and Atomic Rose very similar, I own both. Atomic Rose has a little bit of an earthy musk that Delina doesn't have." These 2 opinions are 2 comments actually. found them on some blogs. People say Quentin Bisch, but...
@@andreeaschumacher I did wonder that too! It's interesting that they don't list anyone isn't it? I guess if it is Bisch then listing him for it would really highlight the company connections and the similarities between the two fragrances. 🤔
Hi Claire, I’m not surprised so many viewers have mentioned sitting down with a coffee to watch you. Your videos upload here in Australia on Saturday night, and I save it until I’m having breakfast on Sunday morning. It’s like we are all having coffee with a very knowledgeable friend, enjoying the company and learning lots. 😃🇦🇺
Thank you! ❤️ Yeah, I like watching videos with breakfast too, it's really nice during the week before work to have 5/10 mins peace! I hope you are doing well and have a good week ahead. 🥰
Ooh yes, I don't think I posted that for a few years! I've been thinking about it and I find it hard to choose 🤣 I think last time I was super sensible and chose fragrances from particular categories to fit together as an overall wardrobe, but now I think I'd just be much less sensible 🤣 I should refilm it! Happy Saturday 🥰
I don’t have a large collection, but I do own Guidance. The scent had to grow on me. Once I loved it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and asked for it for Christmas during a sale. I like that it’s different, love the bottle and it’s long-lasting.
It's nice to have a special one that you really love. I think that's what a lot of people are looking for really. It's nice to find it ☺️ I agree, it's distinctive and the bottles are absolutely stunning from Amouage. They are really works of art. Thanks for watching 🥰
Another very interesting video Claire! The research you put in your videos never ceases to amaze me! 🙌🏻👏🏻 I think companies know what they are doing by sending so much PR, right? Especially in the niche world where most of us can only have access to a few to sniff without blind buying… Influencers are doing a great job! Gris Charnel would be in my top too… ❤ Have a great weekend and thank you for bringing a different view on perfumes on this platform!
Hi Julie ❤️ thank you! Oh yes! I think PR has probably skewed this list a little. Either with gifts to those creators directly or just the overall creation of hype and awareness of particular fragrances that might otherwise just go under the radar... I think Gris Charnel has a lot of love but I was really surprised that there were so many different BDK fragrances in the list overall that didn't make the top 15, they really do seem to be very well regarded. That was in massive contrast to other brands, like PDM, where it was nearly all Delina and flankers. Another really diverse one was Xerjoff. Lots of different fragrances were mentioned for that brand too! Thanks for watching and have a fab weekend, I hope it's more spring like there for you now 🥰
My favourite nerd strikes again!😃 🥰 Except for two older bottles of Amouage and two also older Xerjoff"s, I never owned any perfume from the brands you mentioned. I must be immune to hype + I hate vanilla with a passion.😁 My favourite houses are still, after so many years, Goutal, L"Artisan Parfumeur and Lutens. I also love a lot of italian houses like Nobile 1942, Bois 1920, Pazzaglia, Adjiumi, Carthusia. Rirana Malaysia would make it also into my top 10 for life with their Wood Cereal, and Boucheron - Iris de Syracuse is one of my all time favourites too.
😂 here! Amouage's older offerings are lovely. They are definitely evolving 😬 and I bet that is concerning for their OG fans. Vanilla just seems to be in most of these. I worry that the clear trend of success with it as a base note will mean that fragrance houses aim that way more often. I don't mind vanilla sometimes but I don't want it in everything 🙃 Serge Lutens are really nice and I've tried L'artisan parfumeur and Boucheron, but I've actually not sampled any of the other houses that you mention. I will take note. I will probably review an Italian house next week 🙂 Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfumeAh, I forgot to say that I'm a bit surprised there is zero Hermes to find in those tops. IMHO, they offer the best quality amongst the designers. Plus, the way they fought back to LVMH makes them really lovable. 😂 Can't wait to see what italian brand you have for us!🤗
@@ioanas4839 oh yes! I tried a Hermes on Thursday and I didn't think much to it to begin with but by the end I couldn't stop sniffing! Narcisse bleu? Really nice! Oh LVMH with their hostile takeover must have taken some resisting 😂 I think it's lovely that they are still independent! But that's probably why they can make interesting fragrances still and also why they aren't so mass market friendly...
@@agnesmeszaros-matwiejuk8783Sure, I'll try. From Goutal, my favourites are Un Matin d'Orage ( The Edt), a translucid wet gardenia sourrounded by damp soil, right after the rain, and Nuit Etoilee, starry night, you can almost hear the crickets.😊 From L'Artisan I adore Timbuktu, paper-y, soapy, a bit smoky vetiver, and Caligna, fig and sage, a bit woody, very aromatic. Bois 1920 - Vento di Fiori - chypre lemon with loads of tarragon - one of a kind!
Interesting... what will happen if L'Oréal ends up buying Amouage... 🤔Goodbye Amouage I guess (the way we know it). The quirkiness will be gone I assume, but who knows... Thank you, Claire, for your ongoing high quality content 👏❤
Yes 😬 this is my fear and probably everyone else's. If you look at L'Oréal's effect on Mugler, then I don't think anyone could but fear for Amouage and their individuality. They might not agree a suitable price, we can always hope! Happy Saturday Sanne. Thanks for watching 🥰
Thank you for another thoroughly interesting video, Claire! I do believe Guidance will fade into the periphery when the next novelty comes along. I have a fairly large collection and if I lost it all, my first repurchase will be Scherzo by Miller Harris, without question. A couple of years ago everyone was obsessed with BR540. Trends are just that, trends.
Yes, trends are prevalent in social media fragrance content. There are waves of hype! 😂 It's good to have a fragrance that you know you just love. Those are the special ones. Miller Harris has had some hits for me too, I have a few from them! Thanks for watching 🥰
When I started the hobby, I combed through those top 10 lists to find 3 fragrances to try. I didn't like any. At the time, I didn't know I dislike sandalwood and very heavy moleculed bases. I almost quit, but gave it one more try. I chose a fragrance with only 2 reviews at the time: Jardins de Misfah from Une Nuit Nomade. It's in my top 10 list. I had never smelled anything so beautiful.
Thank you ❤️ I think that's probably the majority view here 🤣, but overall the opinion is very split with it! It's certainly caught people's attention! Thanks for watching 🥰
Thanks Fiona! ❤️ Oh I've been trying to recover my files from my broken hard drive and I've not managed it 😭 so I'm just making one video at a time and trying to get ahead again 🤦♀️ how have you been? 🥰
@@fionaH101 yes I can't really imagine at all, but with my far milder worries in life it's been a day by day thing of sometimes being ok and others not. I don't know whether the warmer sunnier weather and the season help at all, the ability to get outside can just make things a tiny bit better sometimes for me. Sorry I know whatever people say is probably quite trite, including me, but I'm around if you want a chat, I'm especially good at complete rubbish 😉.
@@fionaH101 I replied to this and it disappeared but I basically said I'm around for a chat any time, about absolutely whatever! I know it's a long process and not all in one direction, but I also realise that whatever people say is likely to sound a bit trite too as they aren't going through it. I hope getting outside and nicer weather might help in time.
Thank you ❤️ I will do a top 10 analysis with data from male creators soon to see what they love and whether the focus is on different brands. Thanks for watching 🥰
Finally, a new approach from someone with his own opinion. I plan to record something similar and to deviate from the framework of advertisements and everything that is just served to us... My full support and a big like for what you are doing.
Hi Claire, I tend to like underrated fragrances but do like the YSL libre fragrances, although my husband doesn’t enjoy when I wear them so what’s the point. I don’t like Estée Lauder Fragrances as a whole. I’d like to hear your faves! Great video, I get the Chanel spot
Yet another highly enjoyable analysys. Especially so because a lot of the parfumes mentioned feature on many a wish lists ! No, I was not surprised at all to find Chanel at No. 1 position. It is the most important name in fragrances and in Haute Couture in general. It is a brand that has been around long enough to become a part of collective symbols of Western culture. As for their fragrances - there are some I really can't stand. No.5 being the prime example. But there are several truly outstanding ones. Coco Mademoiselle Intense, Coco Noir, No.19 to name just a few.
Ooh I just purchased Coco Mademoiselle intense, love that one! Chanel has been a brand it's taken me a while to get with but I've got quite a collection now 🙊 I'm happy that you enjoyed this! Thanks for watching 🥰
11:58 Renowned perfume connoisseur and author Michael Edwards was recently asked which newer scent will become a classic (on par with Opium, Poison, no. 5, Mitsouko, etc), he didn't have to think about it: Guidance.
I think Guidance has certainly had a moment and Amouage have done well from it. They really pushed it on social media and the new director definitely has a vision which is different to the former. 🥰
Bonjour Claire howdy, this was absolutely spot on! reminds me that i need to watch a few top10 for life videos ive saved in my watch later album and still didnt get to it lol.. happy tuesday !
Hey Claire! I admire the work and dedication it took for you to make this video. I’m not surprised about Chanel. To me it’s an iconic brand that people will always love. Guidance #1 I’m not surprised either. No surprise about Quentin either 😂 This was a great video! 💜
Thank you Liz! ❤️ Yes Chanel are iconic! But I do think one particular list did skew the number of Chanel as one had 4 in it alone 😂 clearly a Chanel mega fan. And yes, no.1 was definitely not a shocker 😂 Have a lovely weekend 🥰
@@murtila4456 I think that's because these lists mainly come from larger channels and those don't tend to talk about designer as much. These lists don't reflect sales or the choices of the general public and are more likely to reflect what influencers might have received in PR too, which on the whole, won't be designer fragrances. You can see here that the majority of fragrances in these lists were niche, even though sales for niche are much, much lower. From memory, as I don't have the list handy right now, Si wasn't mentioned at all, nor LVEB. L'interdit I think was mentioned by at least one person. Thanks for watching 🥰
This was so interesting! I actually have and love Guidance but I'm shocked it was number 1. It was a months-long journey to fall in love with this fragrance but one day I was at the perfume shop spraying it for the umpteenth time and it just clicked and I bought it. 🤣 I can't even imagine having a top 10 for life, my tastes seem to change so much. But one I've never fallen out of love with is Moon Glory by The Harmonist. Great video, Claire!
Thank you ❤️ I think Guidance is a very controversial one isn't it? Some people really have an aversion to it and others love it! Clearly you have seen both sides 😂 Ooh Moon Glory! Ok, I'll look that up and have a read. I never heard of it before 🙂 Top 10 for life's are hard lists to make, because you do feel judged on them 🤣 and I think I'm now at the point of curation with my collection rather than madly buying in an unfocused manner so I think my tastes have been and are continuing to shift. I agree that it's difficult to decide a list that I can stick to! 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰
Loved this! I think it's so funny that some creators constantly change their favorite scents for life, especially if it's more than once a year. My favorites have held pretty firm, I find many I love, but there are certain ones that will always hold a special place.
Yes, I try a lot of fragrances, and my taste has definitely moved on since I last filmed my own top 10, but also I know that there are certain fragrances that I've tried that I've loved but don't own because of their pricepoint so that's an extra level of complication 🤣 I do have some older fragrances in my collection that are really precious to me though and remain in my top 10. Thanks for watching 🥰
Good morning Claire 🤗 I felt the same as you not surprised by the ratings! Chanel deserves #1 in my book lol I think a brand ( iconic) that pulls on either side of love or dislike makes it interesting and opens the door to conversations ❤️
Hi Sunny! Yes Chanel are synonymous with fragrance aren't they? And I think their style takes time for some people to get with. This list was skewed by one particular channel that seemed to love Chanel and had 4 fragrances in their list! 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire, i love this video! It must have been hard work putting this together. I'm really surprised about Coromandel making the list. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love Coromandel but i am a Patchouli lover. I know Coco de Mml is a favourite and has Patchouli in it but its still different. In your research did you feel the content creators tend to put popular perfumes on the list to make the video more mass appealing? Because i really thought they did and thats why Coromandel surprised me so much. Love love love this video and looking forward to the next one! ( no pressure though 😂😂😂😂)
Err, yes, that was my feeling, that most videos had a mainstream designer fragrance, and then several popular mass market niche fragrances. If creators want people to watch, the audience needs to be familiar with the majority of the fragrances mentioned. Videos where no one has heard of any of them really don't do well because people find it harder to comment and have to pay lots of attention to understand how the fragrance smells. Fragrances from smaller brands were few and far between in these lists as a result. I was quite surprised by Coromandel too, but for people to put a fragrance in their top 10, they need to own it and perhaps Coromandel is the easiest to like for most people from the Les Exclusifs and therefore the most owned? I'm really not sure 😂 thanks for watching 🥰
This was so insightful, really enjoyed it claire. Always a strong research behind your videos which makes for such a substantial and enjoyable watch. Surprised Lancome didn't do better here. As for guidance, I'm still in total bewilderment over that one 😅😅
Thank you ❤️ I like this kind of video, I think this is very me 🤣 Yes! Me too, there were a few mentions of the Maison Lancôme line but not an overall big hit, I bet the story a few years back would have been very very different. I assume Oud Bouquet would have been here in 2020? And yes! Guidance has been a split hasn't it? But it seems to be lovely or hate so I guess that does make sense 🤔 Thanks for watching and have a lovely Saturday 🥰
Oh dear … I am so out of touch with fragcomm and this is the first time I consciously hear about guidance 😂. I love these analytical fragrance videos. My top fragrance for life would be … Menthe Fraîche, of course.
Hi Andreas! ❤️ Thank you, I love them too! Gosh well, Lizzie and Jon have a very split opinion on it so you can hear it from them. I've only briefly tried it from Jon's sample so I can't really judge as I was distracted and just not paying attention 🤣 Jon is too chatty 🤣 Yes! It was always going to be a mint ☺️ I'd have bet on it. Have a lovely weekend and thanks for watching ❤️
Wow, very complex and amazing exercise. You did a great job, therefore I subscribed. From the perfumes you mentioned, I love Coco Mademoiselle but the intense version as I find that note of "wet soil" quite interesting. My unpopular opinion is that I actually hate Delina (I am happy that I only bought a sample and not the whole buttle). I have adored Naxos by Xerjoff for a very long time, but now I am wearing BDK Gris charnel, and Rosendo Mateu N.5. Congratulations on a great channel.
Thank you ❤️ Yes, Coco Mademoiselle intense is also my favourite version, if I didn't have a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle, I'd get the intense! It's lovely. I can't say I'm a fan of PDM in general so far but I know they are popular, I've still not tried ANY Xerjoff! I can't find them in stores near me and samples are insanely expensive 😂 I need to sniff some though! Thanks for watching 🥰
Excellent video. I am not surprised by the first 3. Even if for me it would be Dior (1.), Guerlain (2.) and Chanel (3.) Even if I think objectively Guerlain is the best (consistent, complex, quality). I am surprised by Guidance representing Amouage... I would think BDK would be higher... You must be right - there are 3 top-top brands (Chanel, Guerlain, Dior) and the other 12 top brands (order not important). The order of fragrances however is determined by the current trend - vanilla and gourmand. Interesting.
Thank you ❤️ I think that's an excellent summary 👌 beautifully put! The top brands stay at the top, with the trending going on below. And yes, vanilla and gourmand seemingly rule here! Thanks for watching 🥰
What an incredible amount of work, thank you for this video! I see a lot of top 10 videos on TikTok that tend to come from younger creators and I see a lot more niche and indie brands there. Might be something there!
Hi Claire! Now this is incredibly interesting! At first glance, I thought you were going to talk about your top ten for life. You really are a pioneer, Claire. I’m glad I didn’t do a top-10 video. Had you included it in your research, it would have skewed the results!😂😂😂
Haha 😂 well to be fair, these lists need a bit of livening up really. There's so much vanilla flying about... I will have to redo my top 10, I haven't made that video for a few years and things do move on (well stuff gets finished and discontinued, or reformulated or impossible to repurchase too 🤣). Thanks for watching 🥰
Material is nice! I tried it a few months back 🙂 Guidance I tried too, but only once and I didn't pay attention 😂 as I was with a friend so I will reserve judgement but it does seem very divisive! Thanks for watching 🥰
great video Claire. I'm getting a little burnt out from fragrance youtube, I feel like every fragrance being talked about is some niche creation that's way out of my price range. your videos are always interesting, thank you
This was amazing, Claire! So much work went into this video. What I’m surprised by is how many mainstream Chanel fragrances I actually own in my collection 😂. Not surprised by Chanel’s dominance here. Not being a fan of vanilla heavy scents, I can’t relate to most top ten lists even though they’re fun to watch.
Thank you ❤️ Chanel as a house that I never thought I'd be into, but recently I really appreciate a lot of their fragrances and they are probably some of my most worn for work when I have to be presentable. I think it takes time with them sometimes... And yes, me too with vanilla, I like it but I don't want every fragrance to be gourmand or have a tonne of it... Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfumeSame here. I didn't touch any of them until recently, as I only knew the Chance range, Coco Mademoiselle and No. 5 Eau de Parfum. It turned out, these are the only ones I dislike 😅. Within the last year I bought No.5 Eau de toilette, pure perfume, No.5 l'eau, Coco noir and Coco EdT and wear almost nothing else anymore. I'm craving Paris - Edimbourg and Boy and it takes a lot of discipline not to buy them. I just don't know any brand with this perfection, many fragrances are really art works and tell stories like probably only some of the older Guerlains can.
Wow so interesting Claire! I was very surprised that Chanel was the top mentioned brand! Never would have guessed! 🤷🏻♀️ Guidance did make sense as the number one, especially since you were searching videos posted in the last 13 months.. I actually do like that scent, but I’ve never had an irresistible urge to buy it.. maybe I should give my sample another test in case I’m missing something! 😂
Well me neither actually, Chanel is a bit divisive I think. It definitely took me while with their fragrances! And yes! The timeframe is actually very beneficial to the number one coming out on top isn't it given its release... It will be interesting to repeat this a year down the road! Thanks for watching 🥰
❤❤❤ this nerdy video is FANTASTIC and I'm so loving it.... I have to say that while Chanel might be polarizing, some of their VINTAGE releases are absolutely top notch: Cuir de Russie (now re-available as an exclusif), 19, 5, pour monsieur, egoiste... I could go on... Personally I'm quite surprised by two things: that Xerjoff made it so high and that Roja didn't... Interesting! You've got a new subscriber... Love your research and stats... We need this! 🎉
Thank you! Yes Chanel I have really warmed to! And I tried Cuir de Russie only the other month! I'd been wanting to try it since making my leather fragrances and how the leather industry established modern perfumery video. I think it's taken me time with Chanel, but I really do love a few of them now. Roja I hardly see mentioned in top 10 videos from female creators, I see it much more in male creators' videos. I will make the equivalent list and see what the results are 😊 it will be interesting to compare, thanks for watching! 🥰
Fantastic video! This is the kind of information I love to see! Delina & Guidance are definitely in my 10 for life! Shoutout to Quentin, I think I have 7 perfumes from him & a few more on my wishlist 😅
Thank you ❤️ happy that you enjoyed this! Quentin is a busy man and doing well I think 😉 he's got some really quirky and interesting fragrances out there! I'm sure he'll have some more huge hits in the near future. 🙂 Thanks for watching 🥰
Hey Claire - love your unique, data-based approach and creative content idea with this vid! I always enjoying watching you and appreciate the obvious effort you put into your videos. Yes Chanel is surprising! Guidance is not surprising for me and I’m a fan 👍🏻😘
Hi Jill! Oh are you a Guidance fan?! I've seen a very mixed opinion here in reaction to this video, it's been really interesting! I've only tried it briefly once at a friend's so I don't think I can comment yet on it. I really wasn't paying attention, I got distracted chatting 😂 I think one particular creator seemed to love Chanel and chose 4 so she threw the stats a little... Maybe I should do % mentioned per creator to be fairer because she also did choose more than 10... Retrospective stats from Yt are a statistical nightmare 😂 thanks for watching 🥰
Great analysis as usual, Claire❤ No major surprises for me, and I was expecting Quentin Bisch to be on top 1 position on the list when it comes to perfumers.
Thank you ❤️ yeah... I wasn't shocked! 😂 And to think that the number one probably wasn't long released at the start of the period of time that I looked at! Probably a lot of people hadn't tried it so if they had, maybe it would be even more the biggest fragrance here! Thanks for watching 🥰
I guess I could do this kind of analysis with lists featuring at least one male marketed fragrance... In this video, I didn't gender creators, because really it's pretty presumptuous, that's why I phrased it as videos featuring at least one female marketed fragrance, so I had to choose videos based on that criterion, but most here are unisex marketed. Anyway, I usually talk about what people send me to try and I enjoy or what I buy for my own collection. That tends not to be male marketed designer (although, I do have some testing videos where I have talked about various fragrances from that category, I often find them difficult because the are often laden with iso E super or ambroxan) but I do talk a lot about ungendered niche and indie. Right now I'm just recovering a bit as I lost my hard drive two weeks ago with all my notes and images, videos and plans, 🤦♀️ so it's a bit video by video right now as I'm not the quickest at this with my job too. But once I get going again, I will look into making a similar video! 😊
I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about both mainstream and niche fragrances, but I’ve never heard about Amouage’s Guidance. Going to have to research it. Thanks for an informative and entertaining video.
It's strangely come from absolutely nowhere just this last year. I think it was released in February 2023! It's definitely caused a very split reaction. It's either love or hate for more I think. Thanks for watching 🥰
Interesting video, Claire ❤! Lol I am actually one of those who is in the middle when it comes to Chanel. I like their perfumes, but don't love or hate any of them. My fave house would have to be Dior. 🌞
Wow, you are a rarity! I really like some of them and really don't enjoy others with Chanel. Dior I agree 💯 I absolutely love some of their Privée line and I also love Pure Poison, I need to get that one 😊 Do you have a favourite or any recommendations?
@dr.claire.perfume Pure Poison is beautiful, but I've been totally obsessed with original Poison and Hypnotic Poison. When these guys start to dry down, I'm in heaven lol 💖
Oh no worries and that's good! I have a video about who owns what if you are interested to know more! It's here: ruclips.net/video/nkVIasSOHrw/видео.html
I was sort of surprised not by Guidance being in this list but it being #1. Many people either love it or it doesn’t work for them. It is not “dupable” unlike BR540 so for me that makes it high on this list…..blended to perfected!
Yes I agree with you, I have seen so many people trying clones in videos and say how they aren't similar. I think it's one that is perhaps worth the money for the original if you love it, because it is really different... Thanks for watching 🥰
I have no idea how RUclips messed up my comments!! 🥺😂 Sorry about it! But still I'm supper glad I came across your RUclips channel You bring significant data and is very interesting to see how fragrances are trending and bring hyped.. Makes you think two time before biting the bullet 😘💜
I am sorry! I had no idea you had a channel! I will watch ❤️ I agree 💯 7 people from 30 loving one fragrance is really striking in a market of so so many! And such a recent release too! Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I would love it if you watched my channel but please do not feel obligated. I have been a subscriber of yours for a year or two and love your perspective on fragrance. I just started publishing videos.
@@dr.claire.perfume I also wanted to mention your video analyzing the Top 10 Perfumes For Life has inspired me to film my own Top 10 Perfumes For Life video. I plan on posting it in the next few weeks.
I love this info and your analysis, thank you! I think my top for life are: 1- The Dark Side by Francesca Bianchi 2- Noir de Noir Tom Ford 3- Eau des Sens by Diptyque 4- L'eau Papier by Diptyque 5- Narciso Rodriguez EDT black bottle, mmmhhmmm very tough to choose the rest because I enjoy them but I don't know if it will be for life: ok have to confess that I got Delina luckily in a giveaway this year and I am adoring it, on me it is not too sweet as I've heard. I also like very much BR540, then Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule... and so on the list is very long ;) for how long do you consider having a perfume to put it in that for-life category?
That's a good question! I think last time I did a list, I said 6 months. But I don't know, I think it depends on your personality a bit. Some people are more steady than others in their choices with things like this and that's to be expected. I really need to try the Dark Side! And yes, I love Noir de Noir! Do you have other Serge Lutens fragrances? Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume thanks for answering! I think 6 months is a good time, although I've loved one perfume for one year and now I'm liking it less and less (a cherry one). From Serge Lutens I would recommend the last one Écrin de fumée, I like it bc it's warm and has chocolate. Also, Borneo 1834. La nuit de cellophane. Rahat Lokoum if you like almonds and Chergui.
@dr.claire.perfume ouch.... you know it's Tera with 1r. All of your videos are for me. 😁. It's going great. Thank you. I cannot stand amouage nor Tom Ford. I really am shocked by my choice of favorite houses and fragrances lately.
I loved your approach to this topic Claire and I was surprised by Chanel's dominance. I am in full agreement with Delina Exclusif in top 10 for life. It never lets me down. The only Amouage I own is Sunshine Woman and you make an excellent point about them coming out of the shadows. I have a bit of mixed feelings about it because I don't want to see them become too mainstream or too mass appealing. I don't want them to lose their individuality I guess.
Yes me too a bit, I think one YTber chose 4 different Chanel fragrances in their list which really threw this, perhaps a better measure would be % mentioned per creator?! Might be more fair! Delina and Delina Exclusif really are loved here! I found it really interesting that for most brands, multiple lines would be mentioned, but for PdM it was almost entirely Delina and flanker. 🤔 L'Oréal circling Amouage is very concerning isn't it? They seem to really change whatever they takeover so I do fear for the Amouage brand and its quirky but luxurious style. Thanks for watching 🥰
Hello, I just wanted to ask you something. I bought Gris Charnel after I fell in love with the sample, but im using it now and I can barely smell it after 20 minutes. Its there but barely, its mostly a soft skin scent, even though people were saying it had good sillage. Do you have the same experience?
I only have a sample of it, I don't own a bottle, I haven't tried it for probably at least 7 months, maybe a bit longer. I don't remember it being super loud, but I'd have to dig out my samples and retry it to be sure. It's perfectly possible that's it's a quiet one on you 🥰
@@faysalals1 try that one from Penhaligon's too if you can sample it... Balm of Calm I think from the Potions and Remedies Collection. I made a review video of the collection and it's like Gris Charnel and Jazz Club has a baby. I don't remember the longevity, but I do talk about it in that video. 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I already blind bought Francique by Fragrance World, everyone says its the best dupe, but for some reason its not on fragmantica. Ill see how it is first then ill try your suggestions. Thank you :)
Hi Claire I don’t understand that hype for guidance I tried a sample and was not pleasant on my skin !! My favorite house is xerjoff and perfume de marly!!❤
I only tried it once at a friend's and I really wasn't paying attention, more chatting 😂 I need to get a sample and retry it! Xerjoff is a brand I've never tried any fragrance from 😱 I've tried quite a few PDM though, which are your favourites from Xerjoff and PDM? 😊
Incredible video! Such interesting info + unique compared to what most RUclipsrs are doing. Some of this didn’t surprise me at all (e.g. Guerlain’s placement) but some really did (e.g. I had no idea Xerjoff + Amouage were that popular + have such short lives compared to Chanel, Guerlain, etc.). Personally, this reinforces some things I know about my interests + collection (I adore Guerlain + Chanel, videos about them do well), but also something I kind of knew but perhaps not concretely: my taste is “weird” … the only perfume I own of the top 10 beloved is Tobacco Vanille… even within popular houses it seems I love the scents that aren’t as popular. Thank you for what you are sharing. Compelling, valuable, enjoyable!
Me too! I think I only own Alien and Coco Mademoiselle from the top 15 🤣 But I can't say I get along with BDK, PdM or Initio from what I've tried so far unfortunately. I also really like Guerlain, but the counter that was near me has now shut, which has reduced my opportunities to try so many so easily. 😭 I really like some Chanel and Dior also. Have a fab Sunday 🥰
Hi! A fabulous, smart and well researched video ! You are so wise how you look for trends in the top 10's.. and how closely related they are to power mega houses, who might also happen to send a few PR samples.... yet also some all time favourites that really stand & last in peoples tastes. I was surprised to see Amouage there, and although I smelled Guidance before, I cannot remember it 100%.. so hard for me to comment.. yet I have been seeing it popping up so much on RUclips, and I also wonder, like you & many others have mentioned, about whether the quality or 'niechiness' of the house will commercialise somewhat.. And as to Chanel, I was still surprised it didnt make number 1 Perhaps this goes to show how tastes are changing with the times, and becoming like you said.. so much more Vanilla focused & gourmand,.. which is so much 'easier' and simpler on the nose... esp. for people who are less used to more sophisticated perfumes and their depth of scents... Thank you SO MUCH !!! 🙏😊💮🪴
Thank you ❤️ I do think PR comes into this a lot actually because even if there isn't conscious bias, people are familiarising themselves with fragrances they might not have ever thought to buy. Also there's a pricepoint prestige going on sometimes I think too, whereby some people believe "this is expensive, it has to be good". Guidance didn't surprise me as I've seen it so much but yes, it's not the most likeable fragrance, but it does tick the sweet box. I agree that the ones that hang on in these lists year after year and certainly the designer ones are likely to be the ones that people truly love. Thanks for watching 🥰
Straight into the methods! 😄 I love it. Exceptional analysis Claire. Would be interesting to do another cross section in a year or so to see how things have changed. Then again...I feel like Google's AI might be doing a few of these a day somewhere in the background? 😆 Results available to the highest bidder? 🏢🤫 At the very least, brand analysts are certainly having a go. Potentially an effective way to see if their ads and PR are having an effect. You're the people's professor mon cher. Merci!
Thanks ❤️ I think you are spot on! I wonder how much influencer favourites translate to the mass market? I would love to see the sales figures and values! I will likely redo this in a year, I think it would be interesting to compare! It was hard trying to decide what to include and what to exclude here with videos, I started off strict, it had to be 10 per video, but then some videos had 5, 13, 20 fragrances 🤷♀️ I did deduplicate from the same creator, but clearly if one creator is stating 20 choices, their input skews this... Nothing is perfect though when retrospective research. Thanks for watching 🥰
This was such a good video and so well researched. To be honest the perfumes weren't a surprise to me at all after being around frag youtube for a while ❤
Hi Em! Yeah, I think you see these trends all the time and the consensus is somewhat predictable. Most of these didn't surprise me in the top 15. I think Angelique Noire was probably the one I didn't see coming, and perhaps Alien. The thing that really surprised me was that there were so many different BDKs and Xerjoffs mentioned, but really only Delina and Delina Exclusif from PdM 🤷♀️
Hi Claire. I'm not surprized of the brands on that list. Not surprized by Guidance results... It's been very controversial since it came out. Chanel has been at the top for so long. It's kinda bice to see ahe still is. 😃 This was fun.
Thank you ❤️ I wasn't surprised either 😂 if I had been betting I would have won a probable very small amount of money 🤣 cos those odd would have been short... It's been a really split opinion with Guidance but I've heard from a friend that the samples can smell dramatically different so that could be a reason for it... Perhaps an early reformulation or batch to batch variation issues 🤔 Chanel as the brand winner were skewed a bit by one list with 4 selections from them in. Clearly a Chanel superfan! But yes, a loved brand. I was surprised that Coco mademoiselle and not the intense version was the one in the top 15 though... Have a fab weekend 🥰
I quite disliked Guidance at first and second sniff last year. But I held onto the sample and tried it again recently, on skin this time. And now I love it. I started with a decant to make sure before I purchase a bottle but I think I will end up doing so. And I don’t own any Chanel even though I want to have one in my collection. I haven’t found one I like enough to commit to yet.
I need to get a sample of Guidance and try it properly, I've tried it once from someone else's sample only very briefly, so I don't think I can give my opinion on it. I had someone else say that it took them a fair few tries before they knew Guidance was one for them. Purchasing decants is definitely the sensible way to ensure you end up with something you truly love. Chanel took me a bit of time, I have three now though. I really do enjoy Coco mademoiselle intense too, but I have Coco mademoiselle so I don't intend to purchase it until that one is gone. I really liked Misia from the Les Exclusifs line too and Venise from the Paris collection but the longevity is a little lacking, I also really like No19 poudrée. I do like powdery makeuppy smells though so that's probably why I like those! I don't own any of them right now. Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire! I haven't done thet topic, I don't feel I can haha. But sometimes I think I'm too hard on myself because I see people that have 10 Videos of 10 for Life 😂
Yep! I think people can end up feeling judged on their choices, but ultimately if you love something, you love it don't you? It doesn't need to be hyped or popular. And yes, I have seen some of the male creators doing this video every 6 months even, which is a little ridiculous 😂 thanks for watching 🥰
@@andfragt oh that's good! Hopefully work is better. Err, for me, there was a bit of reaction after my last video but it's calming down now. I've been sifting through job applications this week, I'm trying to find an enthusiastic scientist newbie to work with me 🙂
Very good video, but I think Francis Kurdjian also deserves to be in your list🌸 my favourite from Amouage is Honour. I really don’t understand what is so special about Alien🤷🏻♀️
I think FK was represented but has maybe faded a little in popularity and hype and I guess too, they don't send PR 😉 I haven't tried Honour, but a few people have mentioned it. I think the original formulation of Alien was groundbreaking, but the modern one for sure not so much! I cherish my vintage stash! Thanks for watching 🥰
Wow! Loved the video. That was great! I love top 10 for life because RUclipsrs with hundreds in their collection narrow down their favs. You'd probably love a video by ExtraGentScents from about a month ago. Top 15 Best selling Niche/Unisex Fragrances of the Year. Very cool! My top 2 are Delina & Bo. Thanks so much Claire!
Thank you ❤️ wow, I need to know how he found that info! That's really interesting! I will check it out ☺️ and yes I agree, seeing someone with hundreds of bottles is something that is overwhelming but narrowing it down to a wardrobe of 10 really is much more digestible and useful for most people. 🥰
Thank you ❤️ and 😂 I know, it's got a big mixed reaction either way. I don't think I've experienced it enough to judge it as I just tried a quick squirt from a sample at a friend's house and then failed to pay it enough attention 😂 I need to get a sample myself and see what I think! I really like a lot of the Chanel Les Exclusifs, some are really lovely and Coromandel seems to be the favourite I think! Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I actually meant to write pear drops in my comment - you know the hard boiled sweets? To me it smells like someone has dropped a couple of pear drops into a glass of nail varnish remover! But I know other people who love it. Noses are such strange things... 🤥 I do have a fondness for the Chanel DNA, it just seems to suit my skin chemistry. My favourite is Coco EDP, but of the Exclusifs I particularly like 1957, Gardenia, Bois des Iles and 31 Rue Cambon. I don't love their price hikes though, but that's another story... Looking forward to your next video, you always cover very interesting subjects :)
@@agnesmeszaros-matwiejuk8783 I'll need to try it on a blotter because the same thing happened on my skin - I liked the opening ten minutes but after that it was absolutely vile! @@andreeaschumacher oh wow! I have three Polish colleagues and they have made me want to visit. It's supposed to be stunning 😍
Atomic Rose has a little bit of an earthy musk that Delina doesn't have."
These 2 opinions are 2 comments actually. found them on some blogs. People say Quentin Bisch, but...
@@andreeaschumacher I did wonder that too! It's interesting that they don't list anyone isn't it? I guess if it is Bisch then listing him for it would really highlight the company connections and the similarities between the two fragrances. 🤔
I enjoyed this analysis. I hope you can do this yearly.
Thank you 🥰
Hi Claire, I’m not surprised so many viewers have mentioned sitting down with a coffee to watch you. @dr.claire.perfume. Yes. Please make your own list and update it periodically as you find discover new gems. 😃
👍
Thanks for watching and have a fab weekend, I hope it's more spring like there for you now 🥰
My favourite nerd strikes again!😃 🥰
Except for two older bottles of Amouage and two also older Xerjoff"s, I never owned any perfume from the brands you mentioned. I must be immune to hype + I hate vanilla with a passion.😁
My favourite houses are still, after so many years, Goutal, L"Artisan Parfumeur and Lutens.
I don't mind vanilla sometimes but I don't want it in everything 🙃
Serge Lutens are really nice and I've tried L'artisan parfumeur and Boucheron, but I've actually not sampled any of the other houses that you mention.
Can't wait to see what italian brand you have for us!🤗
@@ioanas4839 oh yes!
Can you please give me some recommendations from mentioned houses for a fellow fraghead who also dislikes vanilla?
@@agnesmeszaros-matwiejuk8783Sure, I'll try.
From Goutal, my favourites are Un Matin d'Orage ( The Edt), a translucid wet gardenia sourrounded by damp soil, right after the rain, and Nuit Etoilee, starry night, you can almost hear the crickets.😊
From L'Artisan I adore Timbuktu, paper-y, soapy, a bit smoky vetiver, and Caligna, fig and sage, a bit woody, very aromatic.

Happy Saturday Claire. Here ready for class.
Hello Faith! ❤️ Happy Saturday to you too! 🥰
Your detail is superb - the breakdown of brands, scents and perfumers. Thanks for the analysis i love to know.
No worries! ❤️ Happy that you enjoyed it 😊
Watching Claire with coffee cup number one in hand 😉. Good morning 🌞
Hello! ❤️ Ooh lovely, a coffee and YT.
Une Nuit nomade gets a lot of good feedback! I need to check that fragrance out, several people have recommended it to me. Thanks for watching 🥰
I wasn’t surprised by the #1 fragrance being Guidance. I really don’t like Guidance so I was hoping there would be another fragrance. Great video!!!!
Thank you ❤️ I think that's probably the majority view here 🤣, but overall the opinion is very split with it! It's certainly caught people's attention! Thanks for watching 🥰

@@dr.claire.perfume Surely, but I'd consider that entirely separate from the pronouncements of a perfume expert like Edwards.

I am surprised there is no Lancome, Armani or Givenchy given that LVEB, Si and L' Interdit are very popular fragrances.
This was such an interesting video, loved your approach to this and interesting to see the trends too.

Clearly you have seen both sides 😂
Ooh Moon Glory! Ok, I'll look that up and have a read. I never heard of it before 🙂
Top 10 for life's are hard lists to make, because you do feel judged on them 🤣 and I think I'm now at the point of curation with my collection rather than madly buying in an unfocused manner so I think my tastes have been and are continuing to shift.

I love the way you compiled this! Thanks so much for all the thought & time you’ve put into bringing it to us❤

Yes! Me too, there were a few mentions of the Maison Lancôme line but not an overall big hit, I bet the story a few years back would have been very very different. I assume Oud Bouquet would have been here in 2020?
And yes! Guidance has been a split hasn't it? But it seems to be lovely or hate so I guess that does make sense 🤔
Thanks for watching and have a lovely Saturday 🥰

Even if for me it would be Dior (1.), Guerlain (2.) and Chanel (3.)
Even if I think objectively Guerlain is the best (consistent, complex, quality).
Thank you ❤️ Yes, I bet the result would be very different from there 🤔 especially if I excluded creators they were also on YT! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire! I absolutely love Material by Amouage. Still not sore how I feel about Guidance after trying it a few different times at the store
Material is nice! I tried it a few months back 🙂 Guidance I tried too, but only once and I didn't pay attention 😂 as I was with a friend so I will reserve judgement but it does seem very divisive! Thanks for watching 🥰
Such amazing research ,not surprised about Chanel dominating !! It’s iconic
Hugs ❤
Chanel seem to be hanging on in there! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire! Such a great idea & concept, excited to watch ☕
Thank you 😊
great video Claire. I'm getting a little burnt out from fragrance youtube, I feel like every fragrance being talked about is some niche creation that's way out of my price range. your videos are always interesting, thank you
Thank you! And yes, I should have looked at the pricing here perhaps, they do seem to be quite expensive mostly. Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume ❤️😊
I really want Coco Noir and I also would like Misia 💸 ... Me and Chanel best buds? I don't know what happened 🤣
Congratulations on your Channel growing !!
Thank you 🙂 it's a surprise 😂
Very interesting. And a new subscriber for your channel... I can't wait watching all the videos you've already published. Greetings from Paris :)
Thank you ❤️ I'm happy that you enjoyed this!
Guidance! Wow! Anyway, I guess the hype helped it a lot. I love it but just haven't mustered the courage to go full bottle. Lovely video ❤❤
I can understand that! It's expensive sadly. Thanks for watching 🥰
I LOVE the analytics!!! Thank you!
No problem! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire, love the content, would you consider talking about to Men fragrance as well? Feel like this more analytical approach would really work
I guess I could do this kind of analysis with lists featuring at least one male marketed fragrance...
I retried Poison after a long long time about 6 months back and I was really surprised to enjoy it! I agree, the drydown is the best bit. 😊
Good morning sister happy Saturday to you have a really great day
Thank you ❤️ you too! 🥰
Love your videos ❤

I had no idea estee lauder owned so much. This is very interesting, thanks for the info!! My favs are in this list 😊
A refreshingjy scientific (read: empirical) approach to a very subjective subject (the world of fragrance appreciation).
Thank you! ❤️👩💻

Hi Claire - I loved this video. It’s so interesting how similar content creators top 10 perfumes for life are.

@@stefanyrojo6667 I've tried a few but none of those. La nuit de cellophane and chergui are two I really must try! I hear a lot about those 🙂

Hi Tera! This is a video for you I think, I know you have your finger on the pulse of public opinion. 🙂 How's the podcast going?
@dr.claire.perfume ouch.... you know it's Tera with 1r. All of your videos are for me. 😁. It's going great. Thank you. I cannot stand amouage nor Tom Ford. I really am shocked by my choice of favorite houses and fragrances lately.
@@OpinionatedScents lol sorry, my typing is not the best 🤣 And oh really? You found some new loves or rediscovered some old ones?
@@dr.claire.perfume new. I didn't echo realize it. Lol
L'Oréal circling Amouage is very concerning isn't it? They seem to really change whatever they takeover so I do fear for the Amouage brand and its quirky but luxurious style. Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume Absolutely! I never miss a video.🥰
@@mnop1774 wow thank you! 🥰
It's perfectly possible that's it's a quiet one on you 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume Yeah its one of my all time favorite perfumes, I might look for a dupe thats stronger lol
Good luck 👍
Its interesting to know what brands and perfumes that are on the top, thank you for the effort you put into this video ❤️
Thanks Rin! Happy that you enjoyed it 😊
And as to Chanel, I was still surprised it didnt make number 1
Perhaps this goes to show how tastes are changing with the times, and becoming like you said.. so much more Vanilla focused & gourmand,.. which is so much 'easier' and simpler on the nose... esp. for people who are less used to more sophisticated perfumes and their depth of scents...
Great video!!! ❤
Thank you 🥰
Hi Claire ❤ as usual well thought of video! It’s cool to see how your exploration matches the general perception in the YT fragcomm 😊
Thank you ❤️ it's always interesting to try to spot the trends! 🥰
It would be cool to get niche perfumery sales, I tend to believe the data used here are probably affected by factors like marketing, views etcetc
It would wouldn't it! I would love to see that data! 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume me too, I searched it up a bit but could not find much. Want to dig more into it 😅
Straight into the methods!
This was fun.
Perhaps an early reformulation or batch to batch variation issues 🤔
Chanel as the brand winner were skewed a bit by one list with 4 selections from them in. Clearly a Chanel superfan! But yes, a loved brand. I was surprised that Coco mademoiselle and not the intense version was the one in the top 15 though... Have a fab weekend 🥰
I guessed Chanel❤
This is very interesting ❤
Spot on! 👍 Thank you ❤️
I quite disliked Guidance at first and second sniff last year.

Interesting video. Guidance smells like pears in nail varnish remover to me.
But to each their own, I suppose! Love Coromandel though :)
