  • In this video we install a bigger turbo on Molly! From a Garret GT2560R to a Precision 4828. This new turbo should hopefully allow us to make more power and more importantly hold boost to redline.

    Id say order the Kraken manifold. It obviously isnt cheap, but it would be the best way to make everything fit

    Turbo swaps are always a huge pain 😂Hoping for a dyno chart overlay to compare the powerband between the two turbos! Always love to see some spicy back-to-back turbo comparisons

    I built my own 3 inch downpipe for exactly the same reasons. I used a 1 inch 5 hole flange to a 3 inch 90 that i cut at an angle and manipulated the end into an oval to fit the flange. Clears with no issues and 5 years later, no cracks in the welds.

    Hope you get some video from the GAP to post. Had hope to make it, but wife comes before toys. She has health issues, maybe next year if she is doing well enough. Glad to see Molly making a show, you, Car Passion and Slip Angle help push me to go with a MIATA.

    It could be if your housing is a gt25 and the gasket is a t25. They are slightly different. Found this out years ago on my Mazdaspeed Protege. Came with a gt2554r and when it gave up the ghost, I swapped a t25 from a Silvia and had to do the same thing to my dp

    Heard a more then a few problems with the precision turbos. Calvo is really on there neck right now showing all the examples. Hope you have better luck 💪🏽. If you do another turbo build look at Xona rotor they are American brand partnered with Tial sport.

    Shoulda just gone straight for an S252 or S257SX-E or for ball bearing, an EFR 6758 or 7163 with the G-type housing. Borgs blow everything else out of the water from what I've read.

    I recall a paper or blog or video where someone tests helicoils, they're actually stronger than their original thread. The theory was because the helicoil has a larger contact area with the metal, and is better quality metal against the original stud or bolt.

    You’d be better off K swapping the fit, with the turbo you get a nice nugget, but the k makes for a nasty N/A beast. Check out VTEC Academy’s K fit

    Thought its pretty normal to beat/cut/weld your firewall at that place. The other elbow is so much nice and will flow so much better. I got the same type of deal but from Kraken

    please don't cheap out and get the Kraken manifold, it flows better then the FM manifold and your downpipes will fit better resulting in more power.

    Next upgrade is to go to an external wastedgate turbo :) thrust me, same turbo just being external wastedgate will surprise you.

    that one e/c clip you put onto the turbo bit looked pretty loose, i would be concerned that it may fall off while driving if it went on that easily

    I would have personally not run that gasket between the manifold and turbo. Blew out several too many before realizing you do not need one at all and it will not leak with clean and true surfaces.

    I know this is a video about Molly but you mentioned twice that you were going to put that turbo on the fit. I strongly recommend avoiding the L series engine. I understand the fit is reliable as is but there are a lot of design reasons why the L series doesn't hold up to mods well. They are a ridiculously over square engine, they have oiling issues, tiny connecting rods, the crank has very little overlap of the main and rod journals making them weak AF, the head bolts are a joke. I have seen the head lift at 7 psi on L series engines. Please for the love of God the list goes on. PLEASE DONT PUT THE OLD TURBO ON THE FIT!!! THE TURBO IS WORTH MORE THAN THE ENGINE!!!!! If the engine fails and sends metal through the turbo oil line then the turbo needs to be replaced or rebuilt. There is a reason you can find the L series all day for $300

    If you planned to keep this new turbo, you could have just gotten the matching manifold to place the downpipe where you wanted it and gotten the full exhaust you wanted.
    Also, if you had to weld the wastegate arm anyway, why not weld the old fitting's hole shut and drill a new one? Hindsight and outside perspective are good ways to improve your point of view. I know the schedule of making videos is tough, but take a step back and evaluate the situation instead of forging ahead with brute force.

    Any reason you don't use ptfe (teflon) lines rather than rubber? I've found that the life of the rubber lines is not great. Good luck on the next tournament!

    I have a new Kraken 1.6 efr bottom mount manifold with downpipe and heat shield in box. Not sure if you need 1? Was going to sell mine. Sold my track miata. I'm in NY/NJ

    Why didn't you go with GBC22-350? Cheaper, Smaller, alot faster spool and you can easily get 400 whp with it
