- In this video we install a new set of coilovers on the 400HP high compression turbo 1.6L Miata! We do this to prepare it for an awesome racing event known as "gymkhana, or downforce battles".

This feels nostalgic as heck to see Caleb working on Molly again. I feel like its been ages. Love the the new projects but seeing this video brings back memories.
I know BC Racing is a sponsor and all that, but their Miata stuff specifically is known for having very poor ride quality. Other platforms may be fine but for whatever reason they just missed the mark for this chassis. The rear suspension of the NA/NB is known for having very little space for a coilover in the first place, when you use a 2-piece shock like these instead of a 1-piece shock you lose a lot of travel. Would definitely recommend looking at more dedicated options like Supermiata Xidas for your car
These ride great, way better than the Fortune 500's, & haven't had any issues with bottoming out the rear travel. I'm sure there are better more serious options out there but I genuinely am impressed with these so far.

Known for DS series? I personally expect that type of issue more with the BR's but the DS series is usually really good
Seriously the bc miata dampening curve missed the mark.
Are you talking specifically the DS series? I've heard from multiple places that the BR's are mediocre at best, but the DS actually delivers, and I'm considering the DS for my tarmac setup.

It's always nice seeing Molly get some love, I've got LEDs all around on my Mustang and whenever I get a Miata as a 2nd car it's getting the same treatment, such a huge difference over the halogens
Great video as always. Surprising that the FA coilovers weren't keeping up. They also are DS coilovers. Maybe they just need a rebuild. Granted the 500 series is more of a street coilover and their 510s are track specific.
FA to BC is definitely a downgrade imo.
I was surprised that the FA weren't keeping up either. They're old, but I put this tire setup on awhile ago and even then they didn't keep up. The stiffer spring rate and dampening of the new coilovers are what make the difference I believe.
@@PhantomShane914 I am a fan of my FA on my Honda. They're only the 500 series but have been great on road and track. However their support/communication leaves something to be desired.
Definitely should have upgraded the FA coils to 510s

The paint on that car is super clean! I remember in a very old video you mentioned it was still the original paint, has the car had a respray in the meantime or is it still the original 30+ year old paint now?

Plasti dipping molly pink is still a better idea than the tan that was on the rally miata. And I always just did that stupid oil filter 'trick' for the suspension bolts. Tight-ish then 3/4 turn back then ride height and torque, didn't know people actually left the bolt loose when it was on the ground.

Even though I’m aware it’s probably more so a tyre sizing issue, I still preferred the advanti racing storms the black was so clean, also inspired me to get some
I ended up putting 7k springs on the front coilovers of my Volvo V70R, up from 5k because of the bounciness. Big difference in how it feels over bumps and even how it brakes. About to put stock shocks back in the rear because the rear spring is a one off and it's just too soft. It bottoms out and is too bouncy. Point is, it seems a stiffer spring if your coilovers are bouncy will give you a better quality ride although it may seem contrary.

Why go for BC? They're known in the track community as Bouncy Coilovers. Xidas are the best bang for buck coilover for a miata out there, I'm surprised you didn't use them on Molly

wait i just bought a set of fortune coilovers for my supercharged ND miata, got 8k/4k with swift springs, planning on running 17x9s all around.. did i make a mistake? why did you switch em out were they that bad? are the fortunes stiffer bc you got a higher spring rate or??

I know this may be hard if there are sponsorships involved, but is there any way we could get an honest comparison between the Fortunes and the BC's? Considering they occupy similar spaces in the market, there are basically no comparisons out there. Specifically BC DS vs 500 or 510 series.

have you looked into the bilstein standard shocks with a revalve and adjustable sleeve its used in spec miata from what ive heard also i recently did the suspension on my miat and found if everything is really rusty to take out the 4 anti roll bar bolts and do the big top bolt method also good video.

Have been watching for a few years now, I have the same coilovers in my 91na6c mx5 (from New Zealand) need an updated on your tyre mag wheel spec ,I am about to get sum konig wheels would like to no the set up that you are running.
Just shows how much quality bc has.. i mean fortune auto are good just quality and modification they have are for people on more of budget. I mean bc has it's limits but they just have more enthusiasts branching their technology in the making them the best.

How does this make sense .. a well known brand “fortune auto “ which is more expensive and just as interchangeable with spring rates gets changed out for a cheaper brand “bc” mind u do the sameeeeee thing
